  • Liam and Sanak give their review of the latest young adult book from Star Wars: The High Republic Phase 3, Defy the Storm by Tessa Gratton & Justina Ireland. Gratton & Ireland also co-wrote the excellent Path of Deceit for The High Republic Phase 2. In this book, Vernestra Rwoh and Avon Starros embark on a mission behind the Nihil's Storm Wall into the Occlusion Zone in search of Vernestra's padawan, Imri Cantaros, who went missing after the fall of Starlight Beacon. Joining them are characters from The High Republic: Out of the Shadows such as Sylvestri Yarrow, Jordanna Sparkburn, and Xylan Graf.

I enjoyed this one more than out of the shadows and I think the characters are all done better here. I think it has a similar issue to OoS where a bunch of plot stuff seems to happen in the final chapters making it rushed, or “offscreen”

That's a good way of putting it. It only hampers those rushed endings even more when the weight of endings never really carry over into other THR material. Hopefully all of the important things at the end of Defy the Storm come back into the story faster than 2.5 years later
