btw thats not a e-11d the e-11d is used by the galatic empire the blaster that the phase opne clone is holding is the dc-15
Absolutely wonderful video. But.... the clones used DC-15A rifles and DC-15 Carbines. E-11s were what Stormtroopers used.....
Right you are sir!
Ha I see
And DC-15s. If I am not mistaken.
@Angry _ I think he means DC-15 S. Not plural of DC-15.
@@Bigtimegamer-dl3dx im a bit late, but don't forget they used DC 15 LE's towards the end of the war!
Does this mean we might see some terrain for Star Wars too? Love your terrain and painting videos.
You know it does ;)
i hate white paints....
Yeah man haha
For future reference, contrast doesn't mix well with water so wet pallets aren't the best for this. But asides the blasters being called E-11 models instead of DC-15A or S variants you did a spot on job
Thanks buddy!! That's all good advice!
First method looks really good! 2nd method works as well, but I prefer the first
Thanks man, me too 😊
Funny, I am the opposite 😜
Pardon my saying but don't Gen1 Clone sergeants have green on their armour? Lts Blue, Captains red and Commanders yellow/gold. Awesome job btw.
They sure do man! I'm going to do a seperate video down the track on painting squad markings and insignia :) for now just wanted to show folks the basic stuff.
@@Zorpazorp Awesome! Can't wait.
Yep. Phase 1 armour has colouring based on rank and role, while Phase 2 colouring tends to be based on which unit the individual is in.
I feel like I learned a little bit of science in the art of painting minis. Awesome job!
Haha that's awesome, thanks Isaac :D
Yeah I'm doing an assignment on fluid mechanics including surface tension 😂😂
Great tutorial! I love the clone models but the white always seemed so daunting, but you made it look so easy here, looking forward to seeing more tutorials on the way
Thanks Davy!! Glad I could help :)
I'm looking forward to seeing your ideas for troopers phase 2 or other colour schemes for the clones! Thanks for the tutorials I wouldn't have managed to paint my army otherwise.
No problem Antonio!!
I've got a box of Phase twos sitting there waiting to get done Haha sooooon!
Love the work you put into those tutorials, amazing quality on both minis, not much of a difference between them really. Looking forward to some more Contrast, especially if you consider getting back to MESBG with them! Cheers!
Lots more MESBG painting tutorials not to worry! Glad you're enjoying the content 😊
Can you do a video of you playing Star Wars Legion? That would be pretty sick!
Hahahaha oh squirrel. Hold on to your hat! Gimme another 36 hours.
My dear lad, the Troopers' weapons are the DC-15A (Automatic Rifle) and the DC-15S (Semi-Automatic Rifle).
And also, amazing job.
Thanks dude on both accounts 😊😊😊
They were both automatic
Your models are bigger then mine. Why is that?
Are yours from Fantasy Flight Games?
Zorpazorp yeah they are
Wierd man! Maybe a trick of the camera :/
Bigger hands?
1:07 HOW DARE YOU USE THE C WORD?!
WHERE’S YOUR C-WORD PASS?
😂😂😂😂
They look great mate, can't wait to pick some up!
Thanks Zach! 😊
Gen 1 should all be armed with the long blasters then.
I looooove the Dc15a that scene where a clone just leaps forward and mows down all those droids in AoTC is amazing haha
A few months ago I wanted to play a strategy game like Warhammer 40k, but had zero investment in them. What I did have were many LEGO Star Wars sets, particularly the Clones and CIS. So I set out to build my own simplified version of the strategy game with minifigs and vehicles. It doesn't surprise me that a game like Star Wars Legion exists; and I am happy that this part of the franchise is alive and well!
Duuuude I literally did the same thing about five years ago focusing on utilising the brick built nature of the Lego models to factor into the gameplay. Damage from weapons would be randomly allocated to regions of the ships and then individual bricks would be removed to show damage. Of those bricks were key systems like weapons or shields, the ship lost those systems haha
Good fun!
No colour squad/legion markings makes these look way too much like storm troopers and I really hate the lack of contrast to that aesthetic. Good job they do look table ready and nice but mine are getting striking colourful stripes and markings for sure.
Couldn't agree more!. we'll be doing a seperate video on squad markings 😊
@@Zorpazorp Cool! I look forward to seeing that then :)
Really wish I could find some of the Lukes stuff available in the US.
They do have a supplier there they used to be called Kings Games and Hobbies but are currently rebranding, otherwise we ship there starting from $24AUD for 500g :)
I’m finally getting (back) into Legion and exploring ways to paint the clones. Couple of great techniques to consider here thanks!
Great to hear!
Hey mate, what method would you recommend to someone who’s new to the miniature scene/painting in general?
I’ve ordered the clone wars core set and I’m really keen to try get them looking this good!
Honestly mate even for beginners I reckon the Nuln Oil glaze is easier and looks way better, plus it'll help you sharpen up skills like brush control, but the wetworking really makes it easier.
Stay tuned for some mind blowing legion stuff in a fortnight I'm so excited!!!!
Hey its the same with me. Only. I bought it in February and haven't been able to play yet :(. Also wondering if you could release a guide for captain rex especially the freehand ING. Thanks and subbed
I like the tutorial but as a fan of star wars I have to correct you on a few things, first they are phase 1 troopers not gen 1, and 2nd it is a DC-15a blaster not a E-11 blaster, other than that good video
Thanks for the corrections James, I've been in Middle Earth too long! My Star Wars knowledge had withered away!
@@Zorpazorp As have i, The E-11 is an imperial stormtrooper blaster
*DC-15s on the model he was working on.
What are you using for your paint pallet? Tissue paper in a bit of water? Sorry start from square 1 here....
Baking paper in a tub with a chux cloth underneath :)
Man i really want to get I to Legion and miniature painting in general. I sadly have no idea where to start?
The core set is a good starting point buddy! Great value!
Ive made a custom base for the character, what colour would you use for the base for the geonosis colours?
Mars Earth base ready and then I use Charred Brown by Vallejo around the rim and give it a drybrush lightly with plague brown
Thanks really cool! but it's not an E-11, its a DC-15A
11/10
Indeed it is! Foolish Lachie shouldnt record voice over at 2am haha
Was looking for something like this and it's perfect. Thanks!
No problem 😊
Would Corax White also work as a decent prime or am i just crazy?
Yeah it would :)
Wow they are awesome black and white my worst colours to paint awesome job
They were mine too!!!
I came here because I love your lord of the rings videos and I absolutely love legion as well. Great tutorial and thank you so much for the amazing content. I cannot express enough how helpful and awesome this channel is. Thank you!
Thanks so much Joe 😊 glad you're enjoying it all man!
Looking forward to seeing u do the speeder
Thanks man, should have it up next week :)
These models mine as well be made of rubber. Horrible choice for model material this plastic rubber whatever they cooked up. When coupled with the crappy mold lines (at least the set i got) have its a recipe for disaster. At least the newer hard plastic ones they are easy to work with as with the smoother firm plastic you can actually clean up and the mold lines and its nothing crazy... These models just look like shit even when painted, all i see is the imperfections of the crappy rubber material.
Used this to paint my stormtroopers, looks awesome! Was going for a weathered style trooper, so thanks a bunch!
No problem!
I’m going to use this method to paint my stormtroopers too! Thanks for sharing. I’m gonna dry brush my scout troopers game color off white. I think that will give a cool contrast between the different types.
Hey, I only started using the nuln oil glaze, but my troopers really don't have a nice layer of that glaze. Pure white primer is sticking out at many points. What can I do to improve my results?
More paint? Or more nuln oil compared to lahmian medium?
drive.google.com/file/d/177d4Z5cx-Bzrjn6rA5RyM-PfGiQtntmT/view?usp=sharing
Here's a link to a picture I made, so you can see my troopers and maybe give more specific feedback and tips. Thanks already.
By the way, thank you so much for this tutorial, I only started with Legion and you really saved me!
As it's drying keep moving it around to keep the coverage even, sometimes happen's to me too, try both, more and less nuln oil to medium and see what works better. Different primers make glazes behave differently :)
@@Zorpazorp Thanks a lot. I already tried a couple of things and they look a lot better already. I used more nuln oil and I had to take a bit more time to get a smooth layer.
@@o-brick-wan-kenobi5171 Brilliant mate!
Much prefer the first method. To me the first, even before the drybrush, looks nicer than the second when finished. I'd also like to add you're tempting me to get some clones, even though I much prefer the Original Era. Clones are cool, their enemy always seems to be pretty crappy though, as a child watching Ben Kenobi explain the Clone Wars to Luke, I always imagined it was a war between clones.
Yeah me too actually!! Haha clones uprising or something haha. Glad you're enjoying it all Pat, I need to get back to Legion 😁
So I’m assuming you didn’t batch paint due to you using the wetworking technique?
You only wet work that step, so I still batch painted, but do those steps together, have the diluted nuln and templar open together and do the steps one after the other then move to the next model.
@@Zorpazorp ahh, that makes sense. I did up my first clone squad today and my god, it was so simple for such a good looking model. Keep up the great work!
wouldnt applying a layer paint of white (like white scar) get an even smoother result than drybrushing ?
Yes definitely but you lose too much of the toning I think, and of you thinned it it would just put white into the recesses?
@@Zorpazorp maybe , guess i could thin it just a little so that it doesent flow out of control into the recess , or maybe i could thinn some base white (corax white) and try that one since base paint isnt as thin as layer
My thoughts as well, also, dry brushing white have a tendency to chalk up.
By the emperor how many do you smoke? I baerly see your eyes
Never have mate, just fucking tired
Nice video 👍🏾, would the glaze work with nuln oil and the white contrast?
As in using the Nuln oIL glave over the Apothcary white? You could but they're essentially trying to do the same job :)
Zorpazorp I just wan trying to avoid getting lamia medium
Laughing at all the gatekeepers talking about the e11. I bet they wonder why their women or dates won't talk star wars with them. Also, amazing first technique. You gained a sub for life. I painted three units of clones in thirty minutes and they look so Sheek and beautiful.
Hahaha thanks man ;) Yeah I looooove the first tehcnique too. Stay tuned man you're going to LOVE what's coming out in a few weeks!! Thanks for the support :)
Just curious, I was looking online at the different contrast paints, would the space wolf grey work better than apothecary white? It seems to give a some what similar level of white on the highs but the recesses seem a lot darker. Do you have any comments or experience in regards to this? Thanks!
Hey Brian! I haven't tried it but I think they would both work better over a bright white prime, so maybe do that and perhaps thin it a little bit with contrast medium to try and retain more of that white :) If you give it a go be sure to post i on our community page, facebook.com/groups/zorpazorp
Can you do the first method with storm troopers too? I’ve seen a lot of video of people getting really in depth with other grays, whites and blacks to make details really pop. I’m just like can’t I prime them white, and do your first method for a good result too?
You absolutely can, I have no idea why people dont use this method on Stormies if they want fast results! 😊
3:50 it was dc-15a
the e-11 was used by the stormtroopers
I knowwwwww haha my Star Wars brain was rusty 😂
@@Zorpazorp its all good my dude
It's a DC-15S carbine
DC-15A is the full length blaster rifle
#NerdAlert
@@FraserJBWalker i love the simplistic look of the carbine
@@FraserJBWalker ah sick thanks man!
could you please please do the 501st clone schemes please
Coming soon dude, should have it out before July :)
In the first method, instead of using Tamiya Fine White Primer, would I get the same result with Citadel White Scar Primer?
Just the tutorial I needed.. thank you !!
No problem Pete!
I enjoyed the video and the troopers look great. But I don’t really understand what the black contrast paint is actually doing here. Why not just black paint?
The black contrast gives you a really nice natural graduation of tone with naturally forming grey highlights and deep black shadows. Pure Black would be very flat and one dimensional by comparison :)
Great Tutorial!! I will be using the first method on my clones!! I like the shiny aspect of the figures!! Btw you might consider painting a dark hand on the chest of one of the heavy gunners!! That's the scheme of a clone on the series part of domino squad called Hevy!!
Dude I should totally do a whole line in Domino squad!! I wonder big they'll get custom profiles?
You could do a sort of what-if and have them with the 501st color scheme like how fives and echo had it during the Kamino battle episodes
@@Zorpazorp Yeah they might!! With the new seasons coming and Echo coming back to life it's totally possible!!
@@ixavdacity that's a great idea!!
@@ixavdacity that's a sweet idea!!!
Great guide Zorpa! Used your droid guide and then this for the clones - although I’ve just started - need your advice I used corax white as a primer and it’s turned out a bit grey - should I do a white scar layer let it dry and then go in with the glaze?
Yeah that's why I use the Tamiya, it's a really bright white. Could layer the white scar but it will take a lot of time, might be worth trying to grab a brighter primer? You can still work up from Corax but your drybrush will have to do more work and it wont look as clean.
Rewatching in preparation of painting my Stormtroopers this weekend and it occurs to me; why not paint the black 'eyebrow' straight after the white? Wouldn't it mean you can do it without too much worry of screwing up since it's just white below and nothing else? I know the rest of the black is done using the wet blending to make it easier but this doesn't need that.
That would definitely work man, sounds good to me :)
If you made the drybrush damp on the second part the clones would've come out like the first set and even better as its a slightly shorter paint job doing it that way, it's an in-between of a drybrush and overbrush that stops that chalky look of pure drybrushing
These look great, thank you. I will be using the first technique on my clones I just assembled and primed! As for the B1 Battle Droids, I hated assembling them, specifically the arms and heads.
No problem dude!
thanks for the tutorial. I'm very new to painting miniatures (just started with SW legion), so these are really helpfull. question, will the wet working technique work with army painter quickshades?
Absolutely will mate :D glad you enjoyed it!
Cool video. Can you also do a painting tutorial for the BARC Speeder Bikes?
Definitely bro! It's on the way just haven't found the time yet 😁
Is it possoble to get a concise list of the paints used for both techniques?
In the description bro :)
Damnable mobile version likes to hide the description. Thanks!
I dont play Clones but dude. The trick with the Nuln Oil pulling the contrast paint into the right places is fucking neat. Gonna try this out.
Would the second technique be better for adding in unit colours? I'm new to painting and I wanted to paint my unit up like the 501st but I'm afraid the wet working (though looking miles easier than the second) will pull and bleed the blue everywhere. Any tips?
Absolutely dont use the wet working for the colors, just paint them normally :) apply them after you've done all the white armour :)
@@Zorpazorp Second way is The Way then
Nice tutorial, even though it differs a bit from how I will do it. I think that I am more leaning to how you did the seargent 🙂
Glad it was helpful!
Great video especially as I just got my clones and to treat and street them quickly.
Glad I could help man!
This is going to sound really dumb. But I’ve never painted miniatures before, and is primer necessary? I’m not trying to make impressive figures for the game. I’m just trying to paint something that looks decent on a dresser, and also trying to save money on primer lol
A primer is absolutely essential dude otherwise the paint won't stick to the miniature. you don't have to use a spray primer but if you want to do a white undercoat it's very hard to get the paint looking flat and smooth when you apply it by brush.
Zorpazorp ok, thanks!
Do the contrast paints have to go onto contrast primer to do their thing, or will will any decent primer still allow the contrast paints to do their magic?
not at all bro! The contrast primer is just primers of a certain colour the GW marketed as the undertones. You can whack them over anything :)
Just getting into legion now and these will be my very first minis paint. Super excited and this is just what I needed!
Runnnnn Fooorrrreeeeessssstttttt!!!!! But glad I could help dude 😁
Hi nice video, can the wetwork also be done with oil colour ?
Definitely man, oils stay wetter for much longer so you can do all sorts of shenanigans with blending and thinners.
Is there a reason you want to use oils?
@@Zorpazorp no not really i just stil got a ton of oil colours from other projevts. THX :)
What is the difference between technical contrast medium lahmian medium?
I'm sure from a science perspective quote a lot, but the main difference is viscosity. The Contrast medium is more of a gloopey thicker consistency, like the contrast paints themselves 😊
Would it look the same if I use technical contrast medium?
@@mrV69 They look similar when dried. However the easiest way to think of it when mixed with contrast paints is the following.
Contrast Medium = Glaze
Lahmian Medium = Wash
Are you planning to take your Clones into a campaign or tournament? If so, are you gonna add details - like Battle Droid pieces, scorch marks, or each clone's personal touches - as proof of their experience?
And even if you're not, are you getting the upcoming Phase 1 Clone Upgrade Expansions to your squads?
Yes to both dude!! Absolutely yes to both 😁😁😁
@@Zorpazorp Cool. Good hunting!
Is there any alternatives to the lahmian medium? Could I just use water?
Certainly could :) It won't work as well but it's fine.
Looks cool but for sergeant they have olive green coloured armour parts apart from that it looks cool
I’ve already painted 5 units of stormtroopers, and 3 units of speeder bikes. I still have a ton of white/black units to paint, and I think I’ll be trying out this first technique. Thanks!
Ah that awesome man! Hope it's useful for you 😁
Second method would work better with a "pure" white undercoat rather than the cream wraithbone.
I haven't tried it with pure white but I did try it with the greyseer and it was a complete waste of time. Considering the paint is designednto be applied over wraithbone or grey seer and finish white it's pretty garbage.
But yeah you're absolutely spot on, over white it would be pretty decent, but I still love the greater numaoc range of the bulb oil glaze. Deeper blacks, and wet working is ace.
Defo coping your 1st style, love the cleaner look that you can weather later.
Me too :D

What’s a good paint brush for legion painting
Could you do the other clones like the arc troopers or red ones
What colour spray did you use to base your models?
I really liked this tutorial, I followed it for my legion models, it was great right up until the basing stage. I don't know what I've done differently but my Mars Earth looks nothing like the one in this video. Mine just looks like sand, not gravel, and as soon as I get to the dry bush stage, it just all brushes off and doesn't apply. Even dry brushing the rocks just removed the pigment and turns them white. I even used the same PVA glue.
Where did you buy yours mate?
