- In this video Duncan shows you how to paint your Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars Legion by Fantasy Flight Games. The techniques he demonstrates are great for painting white armour really quickly and is also useful for painting all types of white armour too. Hello Duncan! Now that the comments are online I'd like to be able to personally say thank you for your help learning how to paint models over the past year. Your guides have been supremely helpful and it's nice to see you working online again.
I want to ask since I haven't seen you answer this question yet: Will you be putting out videos that tackle more advanced subjects, such as Wet-blending, zenithol highlighting, how to do secondary edge highlighting and general tips for doing more difficult stuff? Now that you've come to work on your own and have a lot more freedom to do what you like, I'd love to see you teach and discuss more advanced techniques for painters who want to expand beyond what a general GW speed paint tutorial can teach them.
I understand of course if this channel will be more for doing the same sort of basic stuff to help people in a much more broad sense, and either way I'm excited to see what you do next!
Thank you for the kind words. We're glad we have done our small part to help you learn to paint. To answer your question, we will be looking at doing some more advanced stuff on the site but our main aim is to help beginners and intermediates. Saying that, there is always space to improve and we will be looking at some higher end stuff in the future too.
Just guessing, but I'd imagine the more detailed or advanced tutorials may be reserved for subscribers to the Academy.

@@CoAndCoLaptopAccount they already replied to this, they decided to not make a patreon page because they would rather put a donation process through their own website, because they get a higher cut on what to pay, they can easily control content being added to it for subscribers, and they can control the page layout, look and feel of the website. yeah it's funny, as SOON as he left GW he immediately started using The army painter and anything else he felt like xD

I'm glad he's bringing more Citadel-only people into the more affordable, more versatile world of Vallejo/Army Painter/Reaper Master Series paints! Dropper bottles are such a blessing, too.
@@2WARDEN2 I love the citadel colour range so much more than 90% of the competition... but fuck me if dropper bottles aren't a godsend
@@2WARDEN2 Well... Vallejo and Reaper anyways. I've never had much positive experience with the quality of AP products and firmly believe AP only survives off the "It's cheaper than GW!" and anti-"name brand" mentality crowd. I've yet to encounter an acrylic paint brand that wasn't simultaneously cheaper than GW and better quality than AP.
@@2WARDEN2 My paint collection is mostly all citadel but I got a lot of scalecolor too, but for some things (like the pure white in this video), it's true that citadel isn't the best. Citadel's off whites are some of the best IMO but their pure whites tend to cake up super rapidly and become a solid mess in the pot
I'm gonna throw this out there: gloss finish. The movie troopers are incredibly glossy with that plastic finish. Adding a coat of a gloss varnish at the end helps the miniatures read as Stormtroopers, IMO.
I would also like to add I'm glad you're still finding a way to teach people how to paint. I learned a lot from you over the years!
If you're doing desert troopers, you can just say the glossy sheen has been sandblasted off.
I was thinking the same, at least for troopers that are in cities or stationed on star destroyers, away from grime and expected to keep their armor gleaming at all times.
I love how the armor doesn't look white until you add the black details and suddenly it gets brighter with each coat. Such a cool effect!
It's both weird and fantastic to see you paint non Citidel models with non Citidel paints! Great to see you painting again, Duncan!

It depends on which lords fiefdom you fall under and to how far the ancient edicts hold truth.
Large swaths of nottingham, for example, fall under some of the harshest laws.
do you have the thinning your paints license?
Contrast paints don’t need to be watered down, usually.
Is he using the contrast paint or a normal paint colour?
Oh I see, apothecary white is only a contrast paint. Never mind

The white contrast paint is an absolute godsend for these kinds of tasks! Amazing stuff! Also glad to have you back, and I can't wait to see you work on different miniatures! Make us discover new mini brands while you teach us how to paint at the same time, that would be neato!

Obviously they're members of the 501st Kaminoan.
Love that we have these videos to look forward to! Opened up to new models, new paint ranges, brushes. Great to see these are being made. I feel like they can be a good bridge between pure beginner and very advanced.

Really good video. Normally I would look at Sarastaros for SWL but I've reached a peak of painting laziness/burn out, so this is an excellent result simply done. Happy with this Duncan.

First of all; Thank you Duncan! I know you were personally involved in my return to the hobby and a number of friends as well. Really excited to see you try some new things like using a wet pallet, Glazing, NMM (maybe even sky earth chrome.) My favorite way now is directional lighting and glazing (thanks to Darren Latham and Vince V.) I truly believe your teaching style could bridge the gap on some advanced techniques for people as you make the impossible seem very attainable with only 2 thin coats.

I'm glad you're back with us Duncan! If it's not too much I'd like to see things like varnishes, airbrushing, and basing scheme tutorials.
For example I think the Stormtrooper's armor could use a satin varnish to sell the "space plastic" effect, and you could include how you did the Stormtrooper's base in a "Desert bases collection" video.
I have recently gotten into painting minis and your GW Warhammer vids helped me out so much! Tonight I'm even going to follow along with painting magnus! Maybe next you could do death korps? It's hard to find vids for painting them. Good to see you're doing well for yourself!

I picked up painting miniatures after a very long time away from any tabletop wargames exclusively because of you and your tutorials. And I also want you to know that you have a little fanclub in Russia and countries of independent commonwealth. We really love you and were deeply saddened at a time when it was announced about your resignation from GW. I was afraid that you would simply abandon the painting field and we would never hear from you again. Thankfully it never happened and your skill and talent truly bloomed because of all the freedom of choice you have acquired.
I'm really looking forward to seeing new tutorials and can't wait for the Academy site to open and start offering memberships because I'm definitely will be getting one. Thank you again
