That is just crazy how you managed to make that TINY TINY face ooze such character and personality! I suck at faces, myself, and that's something I'd ultimately like to improve at in the future.
Duncan, i'd love to see you do some Marvel: Crisis Protocol models, I think the emphasis on shading and lighting would really make an awesome tutorial on those subjects.
I'm sure FFG gave it to him early to build hype for the release. The only surprise to me is that they asked/allowed him to put out the video this early, dude is still 3 months away from release!
It is kinda funny how easy you make it look doing his face when those little tiny littles are a nightmare to paint!!! But I really like how you did the rest of the model!!! Too bad I didn’t see this until way after I painted him!!!
Thank you very much for this tutorial! Can't wait to get mine! Would be fun to see Duncan do battle report! Also, are we gonna see some Elder scroll call to arms?
Hi Sebastien. We did our first Skyrim miniature a couple weeks ago for our website (duncanrhodes.com) and we plan to do more as they were great to paint 😊
Thank you so much for this comment - I had no idea Call to Arms existed and all of a sudden I have a new way to drain my wallet! The models look incredible ☺️
Had no idea you had a different channel. Been watching your Warhammer videos and appreciate your painting style and how you teach. Subscribed here as well, thanks for the tutorials.
Painting the fine detail on his face would give me fits - you made it look all too easy. Out of curiosity, are there any plans to do anything with airbrushing on your channel, or are you sticking solely with brushes?
Hi Brad. For now we have no plans. We want our tutorials to be accessible for everyone and unfortunately not everyone has access to an airbrush because of cost and even the step learning curve. Saying that, we may have a look at it in the future should enough people want to see it. 😊
Knowing the model is already so complete it can be sent out for content creators makes me a little sad it's gonna be another 2-4 months until I can get it :'( Amazing paintjob nontheless! Still wish they'd kept things more lore accurate and not included Maul for CIS but it is what it is..
Duncan, I’ve enjoyed watching you since I first discovered “how to paint citadel miniatures”. I love the different types of minis you paint. I always knew your range could be expanded.
Love the tutorial and model, and I REALLY hope that we get to see a tutorial on how to paint Darth Vader at some point in the future. And more Legion models. Would love to see how you would go about painting an AAT.
Lovely work, Duncan! Any particular minis you want to see come out in the Legion range? I recall a Reddit AMA that you did a few years ago where you said you've dabbled in Star Wars kits before
Excellent as always! The red OSL on the back reads much more strongly in the turntable shot then in the tutorial, did you further enrich the color or can we chalk that up to different setting and everything being dry? Thanks again!
Hi Duncan, can you do a video how to paint Dark Eldar? it's very difficult to painting they, because they have some dark colors and it's very difficult to make the color good..
an alternative way of painting a lightsaber blade is with metallic paints and then add some spiritstone red over that, looks good and the blade have ''glow'' effect on it as well! ;)
for the eyes, I would recommend starting with an orange and then going yellow before the black. He has a deep red around the yellow of his eyes and it would give much more of that presence.
Or! You could do what I do for eyes, which is mash white clumsily all over the orbital socket, and then drop pupils on opposite corners of the eyes so he looks like Kawann Short. But you know, either way is good.
I'm not usually very "sold" on most of the sculpts of the SW miniatures - good enough, I guess, but they just didn't "wow" me. But DADGUM that face sculpt on Maul is amazing!
Great video as ever, will you also do a video for Count Dok and Boba Fett? And an Infinity O-12 video would be nice with the upcoming Starmada set, though after you summer holdiay of course.
We already have on our site (duncanrhodes.com). We have a full guide for B1's, Commando and coming soon, that fantastic B2 Battledroids 😊 They were seriously fun to paint
Duncan, I do like your tutorials very much, I find them most helpful for my own painting skill improvement. However you only use GW and Army Painter (from the videos I’ve seen), so why not Vallejo, or 3P, or cote d’arms?. I ask as I am always looking for “better paint”, to help me.
How do you know what colors use for each figure? I make airplane kits on 1/48 scale and I start with dioramas so I start to learn to paint figure and believe me you are the best to teach me how paint my figure, THANK YOU!
I love your work with Maul, here! Definitely will refer back to this video when I finally get him, myself. Also! You should really watch The Cmone Wars tv series, Maul makes quite an entrance, and the show is fully confirmed canon. A LOT more lines to choose, as well!
Hi Duncan, love the videos. Could you maybe give some tips / do a video on how to recover painting eyes when it goes wrong? I have been painting minis for a while, eyes are the one thing i hate, i have tried multiple techniques and have about an 85% success rate with eyes. When they go wrong, they go really wrong and no matter how thin the paint or what technique the correction ends up blocking out all and any detail; usually resulting in striping the mini to prevent an alien frog look. This isn't to much of a problem with a mini in armor with just an exposed head where i can start on the face and if the eyes go wrong start again. It is a pain painting any sort of mini with a lot of flesh and have spent time working on the rest of the miniature.
Hi Jason. Corvus black is a really dark grey (shaded with Nuln Oil) and when added to a miniature with Abaddon Black on it just gives a tonal difference that helps to define areas of black a bit more. It's really good for tonal variation. Hope this answers your question. 😊
Hi Will, thanks, we always like receiving constructive feedback 😊 Glad you liked the OSL, it's a simple technique but just gives a little more character to the mini.
I would cut him in half around the midrift and magnetize him
Holy shit man
this needs to get pinned
mind blown gif
Love it 👍
Exactly
The thing i really like about Darth Maul - if you watch the Phantom Menace - is his two thin coats.
HAH, well played
At last we will reveal ourselves to the jedi, at last we will have revenge. Cracking work on the skin tattoos!
Thanks Pete. They've made it easier with the fine sculpt on his head to guide you.
Ayyy we got pete in the duncan fangirls!
there are more siths in hiding than I expected... good... good...
You could add a necron warior legs to make him look like in clone wars
Two thin saber blades.
That is just crazy how you managed to make that TINY TINY face ooze such character and personality! I suck at faces, myself, and that's something I'd ultimately like to improve at in the future.
Tutorial warning: This particular miniature may have a tendency to drop off cliffs
Those face skills though, incredible.
Y'all gotta watch Clone Wars if you think there aren't any more Maul quotes.
He's got some good ones in that series.
"I was hoping for Kenobi, why are you here?"
"KENOBIIIIIIIIIIII"
People who think that TCW is jUsT a KiDs sHOw and a kId'S cANoN: Unfortunately for you history won't see it that way
@@Intuplat147 Was Clone Wars the animated one? Because it was quite violent some times if I remember
@@chevremiel3010 if you're talking about the 2008 computer animated one then yep that's the one
Admittedly there aren't many quotes to draw from Duncan, but you missed the opportunity to split this episode into two separate parts 😉
good one m8 LULE
Duncan, i'd love to see you do some Marvel: Crisis Protocol models, I think the emphasis on shading and lighting would really make an awesome tutorial on those subjects.
Execute order 66 - paint your stuff......ALL of it
I painted all of them! Not just the men, but the women, and the children too!
Damn straight! 😂 or at least try.....
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Do, or do not. There is no try.
I see Darth Rhodes, I click like...
Wait...
Who else came here just to see how Duncan freehands Maul's face patterns?
Problem is, now you're contractually obliged to paint Kenobi. xD
He already has! It's even available on this channel, not limited to the website
He has. It’s a great tutorial too!
ruclips.net/video/8tO4Dr1tShA/видео.html
I wonder if the legs and torso come as two seperate pieces on the sprue. 🤔
You know, when he was gesturing at the face I half expected him to say... oops, now we’re going to do a tutorial on fixing mistakes.
I love the “I just saw kenobi” look on Maul’s face
The Kenobi vid is really good too
KENOBI!!!!!!!!
Is no one going to talk about the fact that he got death maul early?!?
Son of a...
I'm sure FFG gave it to him early to build hype for the release. The only surprise to me is that they asked/allowed him to put out the video this early, dude is still 3 months away from release!
Could just 3d print a maul not hard looks same as well
“Ah, I see you brought my apprentice.” “I was expecting Kenobi.” “Is he the chosen one?”
My 1 year old and I were absolutely hypnotized watching you paint Maul! Amazing work as always!!!
The best part about darth maul is that you can assemble him to do jazz hands
When you said "emitter" in regards to the lightsaber, I was like "oooh, Duncan is a Star Wars nerd" :D
Amen brother
Can we get a how to paint Anakin Skywalker video Duncan?
He is most certainly on our list 😊

All well and good, but what if I want to paint the post-episode 1 version of Darth maul? I guess I just paint the bottom half right?
Yup, you guessed it!
I really appreciate what you are doing, you are very skilled. Thank you for doing this!

This. This is why I support the Academy. Nice work Duncan!
Wow, thanks. And thank you for the support it means the world to us 😊

They sent you darth maul?? Im so jealous!
Whenever Duncan says "layer brush" I hear "air brush".
I looked up from my model to see if it was a "small air brush" lol
I hope we can see you go back to the clones and maybe do a different armor type than the white plastoid. Maybe something like the 212th Recon?

Could you do Darth Vader?
Wow this is stupid good. Like wow I couldn't do that in a million years. Well done, it looks amazing!

I need to stop watching these videos. I was proud of my legion guys... I was...
Hi I’m wondering if you have painted the Star Wars legion core set Darth Vader
Is there a better substitute for corvus black because I've gone to a lot of places and they don't sell corvus black anymore?

Are you going to paint some marvel crysis protocol up
I’d love to know where you got that tile Palette, I haven’t been able to find one I like.
I think it's just a normal ceramic tile such as you use for tiling the kitchen or bathroom. DIY store is your best bet.
A tile sample from a DIY store (B&Q in the UK) Ive been using one for as long as I can remember 😊

hi dunca, i ant to know the difference between corvus black and abaddon black.
Corvus Black is more of a dark grey and is one of my favourite paints. I always make sure I have a pot at the ready! 😊
