      I think your all comparing apples to oranges though, Legion is very much a Model based game, Not an Unit based game like citadel gametypes, I would if push came to shove compare Legion more to kill team or mordheim than any of the citadel mainstays, Even the largest point cap -1600 would be hard pressed to include over 50 models, That is legions 4 hour apocolypse level slogfest

    After doing the apothecary white, id wash it with nuln oil, so you get bit more contrast, and youll have less to do with the black contrast too. Then the highlighting as you did

    • @CaffeinePanda
      @CaffeinePanda 2 года назад

      I think just a heavier application of apothecary white would improve the contrast. Nuln oil on stormtroopers seems to make them look really dirty as far as I've seen, which if that's the aesthetic you're going for by all means. At the very least, nuln oil would do well to be diluted before applying onto a stormtrooper.

    Nice quick technique to paint stormtroopers, what I generally did on mine was, I sprayed them white, then used a black wash on the entire model, drybrushed them white, then fill in all the flat area's with white and refined details, painted the gun with a watered down black and then used a clear gloss coat on all the armor panels to give them that new-looking shine they have in the movie's which also does wonders on the Darth vader model!

    They look great. If you’re careful you could probably get a bit of black into the “mustache “ part of their helmet too but it a little finicky.
    I’m guessing you will like the way contrast works on the rebels too. They take a wash well because they have a lot of cloth folds and textured and a few guys in the FFG painting forums have had good results with contrast.

    Thank you for the video! I followed along best I could. By the end, my white paint was a little chunky looking and my black was a little messy. So I used a gloss clear coat, and covered the whole model with AK streaking grime. Then wiped off most of the streaking grime. IMO I got a pretty cool result. The streaking grime adds character and helps hide my messy paint job. And the gloss clear coat helps sell the effect that the armor is shiny under the grime. I really like it!

    You can achieve similar results by zenithal priming. Instead of the traditional black/grey/white, I start with a 50/50 mix of white + grey, and get lighter as I go up. Follow that up with some standard highlighting etc.

    Legion is awesome!

  • @AzraelThanatos
    @AzraelThanatos 5 лет назад +1

    I actually did something similar when I painted mine.
    Primed white, hit the entire model with a heavily thinned down FW Black Acryllic Ink using water, then drybrushed white, and used some less thinned down ink to go over the bodysuit and gun. Then I went with some details like colored shoulders for the squad leaders and specialists having bits in the color of the squad. I then highlighted the black on the weapons and certain parts with a gunmetal.
    I'd painted them off their bases because I pretty much used a rather simple option for basing by just covering the base with a piece of plastic canvas and added pipes via stir straws to the vehicles to mark facings along with some for setting each squad apart from the others. While it's rather easy to paint that type of base, it's far easier to paint the mini and the base separately there to make sure you get the entire thing.

    Tl:dr on the black Templar, it’s a great black paint, but there’s basically no contrast to it. At least that’s how mine ended up being, and I’ve used it on a few different models to test it out.
    I’ve used the Templar black and after having great results with some of the oranges and browns, I found it to be incredibly disappointing. As a black, it covers great, flows maybe a little too well but being patient solves that just fine. My issue was with the “contrast”, because there’s virtually none. I was painting an infinity ninja and wanted her to be mostly black, and add some other colors in just a few places. Had this behaved like say, sharia dunes or snakebite leather, it would have had maybe a little gray to it in the raised areas and black in the cracks and details, what I got was a solid black model. Not a big deal, I just added more of the highlights myself, then a wash to bring the shadows back down, but they advertise these as a one and done for highlight and wash, and for this color I found that not at all to be true.

    • @mikeince9784
      @mikeince9784 5 лет назад +2

      I find that the black templar has to go on very thinly to provide any contrast. Try the basilicanum grey and put 2 coats on. That may provide a better contrast for you. I have mostly tested on top of grey seer and corax white

  • @Ojthemighty
    @Ojthemighty 5 лет назад

That was not in the original movie. There are many examples of stupid sht like this they left in. So, no, it's not original unaltered footage. I may make a video someday pointing out all the BS I can notice from this "Original theatrical version of STAR WARS"...because it is not 100% what was shown in theaters back in 1977.

      @@TheGamerZapocalypse you must have a different version than I do. The one I have is the unaltered theatrical cut.

    A varnish and then a oil wash would work much better than the black contrast paint, if you thinned it down the white underneath will show through and give you your contrast

      Randal I get that’s intended as humour, but FFG rules with GW minis is absolutely the dream.

    Fun fact; those *dirty* stormtroopers didn't exist In a New hope originally. They are CGI add ins made by Lucas afterwards.
    Honestly, the amount of stuff the guy just stuck in there that looks a little out of place is astounding. I'm not a star wars fan but I found rewatching the new version of the old movies unbearable.

      Original Sandtroopers were not as dirty, but they were fairly crusty compared to their brothers in garrison.

    Disney killed starwars. I wish it wasn't true, but it is.... do you auto nerf stormtroopers in the tabletop too? Actually the armor is white so when they go planetside they can take the local soil and camouflage the armour.
