My father always listened to this song in the car. I used to hate "old music". But now it makes me cry... I miss these times. He isn't dead or something. I just don't see him that often anymore.
I was listening to this song when I was as old as my son now. Such a beautiful song. Where I lived you could listen to it on a radio or a Juke Box but videos weren’t commercialised much.. and I was too young to care. In Italy this song was everywhere. I thought it was a black female singer singing it. If you close your eyes you will notice I might be right.. great voice. I also loved a lot their other famous song: I didn’t know. I looked for it for many years. Oh the tears when I found it. I wish I could talk to that little young me loving this song and being emotional. It took so May years to find it. I owe PhD more memories than I imagined. And yes, our parents were saying the same, the music we listened to was rubbish. Listen to your music. Look for some good music and artists to listen to. They will be like pictures of your time. Full of memories. Listen to some good music for good memories. Live and love music with your friends and family.
He wasn't old when he played it to think scary he may have been in his 20s this would have been new u may have been a kid hating this Music now it's doubled we getting old it really suxs to think it was flawless gem the 80s now they coming into their 40s yikes gosh so many emotions now u hit old age
Born in 1990 but a massive fan of all things 80s. Thought I’d heard a bit of everything. Just found this at 32 n the guy was born 20 miles away from me. Dunno how I missed this one but very happy to discover it.
This is the kind of song you could've heard only once in your life but it just stays with you. I don't think any songs made today have that same quality.
Played this full blast in my car one hot summers night with my windows down. Stopped at a set of traffic lights. A car pulled up beside me. I could see the driver and passenger looking at me out the corner of my eye :) I slowly turned my head and made eye contact then we all started singing it together. A perfect synchronised moment that I’ll never forget. Isn’t that the coolest story ever?
Yh man did this recently at like 5am, I pulled up to some builders in a van blasting there favourite tunes. I pulled up and the passenger driver just saw me smiled & we started singing 🎼🙏🎶🤗😂
Just had this song in my head for the last 3 hours but could not remember the artist... now all is good.. excellent and I can remember this song almost word for word...
No, enjoy being 16 and listening to 7os music... as being in yr 50s is no joke. Yr life is just beginning, enjoy it and never wish it away my friend. So glad to know youngsters are listening to great tunes. God bless. Xxxx
I was born in 1971. Enjoy your life whether it be short or long and remember it's better to regret something that you did than something you didn't. Go on make us proud.
Very cool and Jazzy keys, thanks to the incredible Tony Hymas of the Jeff Beck Band, add Jim Diamond to the proceedings, and you've got lightning in a bottle.
Heard this on BBC Radio 2 recently, not realising the great Jim Diamond is no longer with us... :( I never tire of this song. One of the all-time great love tracks ever. RIP JD.
Only just saw that Jim passed away in 2015 in his sleep to a pulmonary edema. His family did not even know he was poorly. Really goes to show how fickle life is. RIP Jim Sir. Your spirit will definitely be living on.
So I just sat at my computer and out of the blue I started to sing "Iiiii won't let you down... don't let me outa here" and was like, wow where did that come from? Who the hell is that even? I then remembered the video from those first days of MTV. I then immediately googled those lyrics and found out it was PhD, so here I am. Unbelievable the power of a great melody. I can't remember 85% of what I learned in school and barely peoples names Ive met many times but i can spontaneously remember a song I havent heard since 1982. Wow. What a song.
So many memories with that song and my Dads Club ,Riverside Rifle & Pistol Club (Liverpool) 1982 What's not to like about that song and Jim Diamond? RIP Dad and Jim ;(
This song literally grabbed me from the first listen. I was immediately fascinated by several things: its unclassifiable side (pop? soul? progressive? a bit of all that !), this relaxing atmosphere, this minimalist and yet incredibly effective orchestration, and finally this absolutely unique melody. And that voice! for a long time I thought it was sung by a black singer woman !
I associate this with boring rainy sundays, playing with my model train, during the coldwar which was still very hot. This song is still one of my all time favorites, that synthesizer massages my ears and brain.
Even after all these years, this song grows on me a little more every time I hear it. 38 years that`s insane. who is doing anything as good as this now?
Hervorragende Musik ❤
2021 still an awesome track and remember my mum playing it over and over as a kid 45 years later I can definitely relate after countless mistakes I've made in life . Means so much

Dieses Lied habe ich vor ein paar Monaten plötzlich im Traum gehabt obwohl ich es vorher lange nicht gehört habe .... Seitdem hat es für mich eine emotionale Bedeutung....❤🎉

Yes amazing. I just found this song.... Anyone who's ever let someone down and lost someone... Well... I don't usually get emotional but this brings out something in me...
My father always listened to this song in the car. I used to hate "old music". But now it makes me cry... I miss these times. He isn't dead or something. I just don't see him that often anymore.
Who’d thought that dads had better music than us. Or are youngsters just spoon fed over-produced, sterile, commercially driven tripe?
your dad had great taste in music rip man
My father also liked this song, he passed away a year and a half ago. This song bring good remembrances 😭

I was born in 1970 and the 80s were great. However, you had to be tough. There was a lot of gang fighting back then.
An absolute old time favourite for me. What an amazing piece of musical art !
De la balle!
This song has one of the most perfect moments ever recorded in music history. When he says the "Let" the second time in the chorus.
agreed ❤
A perfectly crafted pop song that has stood the test of time. Nobody can top Jim Diamond's vocals on this classic.
The best keyboard riff of the eighties, still gives me a shiver of pure joy after all these years.
Just my thought also
One of the best voices as well
This and Golden Brown
AND SWEET DREAMS OBVS.
@@johnstairs nail on the head bro,GB is hectic, the most epic song of all time imo, this is not far behind
It's not even possible to compare it with modern stuff. Everything in perfect proportions, full of nostalgia and 80s loneliness...
i totaly agree with u
Very cool and Jazzy keys, thanks to the incredible Tony Hymas of the Jeff Beck Band, add Jim Diamond to the proceedings, and you've got lightning in a bottle.
I could never find the words to capture this. You gave me just that. Thnx
I like it, but I'm not sure music has perfect proportions. I just like a ton of different stuff.
