The recorded keyboard you hear is a prophet 5 synthesizer. Tony Hymas told me himself. In this clip you see a rhodes piano, which don't even resemble a synthesizer. Also nobody out there cared for the drummer obviously😂 Great song.. I know it got stuck in my ears and brains immediately as I must have been 2, or 3 yrs old.
It's not live here but Jim had a great voice. We were very fortunate to have him perform at a festival I worked for in Guildford and he was a charming polite talented guy with no detectable ego at all. Very much missed. A great songwriter.
@@jonmortimer5831 nope this wasn't even remotely live. Though I have to agree on capabilities singer. But nothing to do with topic whether this was live played or not. I bet you won't find a live version too. Original mix is too specific too get even close on a live stage. Added to the fact the small details in vocals are too much exactly aligned with original recording. It was a normal thing to do throughout the 80's and 90's during live shows: fake it till you break it..
You are of course correct, this is obviously not at all live. Bizarrely though it isn't the video I meant to comment on... There is a live version on RUclips or there was when I posted the comment and it is definately so as Jim deviates a couple of times and yes unlike here they are plugged in. I'd skipped so many on a PhD RUclips blast I just lost track of the video I was on. Take a look, I'm sure it's still out there.
@@SirG145ruclips.net/video/WCoRkxn2fkI/видео.htmlsi=nfPLQSPUaRddBu_Q was the live one I thought I was commenting on... Just an old fart here losing his bearings!
@@jonmortimer5831 Wow, this really deviates here and there in ways one would consider it better to use the original takes, pretty much. But whatever you see credible, it indeed was just the singing that went on live at this performance. At the ending, the voice doubling (recording and live) kind of confuses Jim as when he improvises his intonation goes completely off the rails and he isn't anywhere near what we call conscious competent in this specific situation trying to nail it. At leaving a larger or better impact to his audience, than when he wouldn't have appeared up there singing it live he missed the mark. You have to put it into right perspective / context, trying to be as authentic as possible given the circumstances this record provided to be performed live on stage anywhere. Again, drummer nowhere to be found, synth player Tony being more of a decoration on stage. But cool to have been able to watch this! To some extend listeners can grasp a better idea on how this song lived in the brain of Jim outside of the notes and the sounds or effecting, plus without the extra harmony vocals. That in itself makes this version the best on youtube as far as authenticity goes regarding this song by this group.
Simplesmente linda!
