In this video, I explain how to use Sheep-It, a free distributed render farm for Blender. To use Sheep-It, you allow your computer's resources to be used to render other people's projects. For doing so, you get points, which can then be used to render your own project. Sheep-it renders projects by splitting them up into their individual frames and distributing them to members across the community, to be rendered simultaneously. In this video, I go over the basics of how Sheep-It works, how to gain points, and how to prepare and upload your project. I hope you enjoy! If you enjoyed this video please slap a like on it, and to see more videos from me, consider subscribing!
Stay tuned until the end for a message regarding my lack of uploads

i just love sheep-it. Not just so you can render faster, but also people care about people and try to help them
Thank you so much! These really do help! I understand how long these take to make.
This was really helpful. Thank you. I subbed to you!
If u need to keep linked objects into one scene for sheep-it, just select all ur objects with "A", go to Object/Relations/Make Local/All.
Hi Tyler, thank you so much for this tutorial. It helped me a great deal! Also, I am not sure if you are already doing this but by using portal lights for your windows noise might get reduced already by a bit. Ignore this if you are already doing it...
Thank you for this my dude, very informative!!
This was super informative thanks!
I did not know paid assets are forbidden on sheep it... this is instantly a deal breaker for almost any of my projects, and i imagine this is a deal breaker for many as well
I didn't know I could pack my files so thank you so much
thank you for this. didn't know about sheepit :)
Thanks man seth pleased of your assistants
Now I understand it. Thank you!😀
I think one topic I could certainly use a cleaner tutorial on would be basics of glass/diamond/crystal reflection/refraction. I mean I know there are a lot of glass tutorials out there but they are generally either super simple and not enough details on how to setup a basic reflect/refract material or they are super advanced custom node material spagetti mess....LOL Something in the middle ground would be very helpful!! :-D
Thank you for the tutorial! It was a great help!
My brother you saved my life
thanks for the tutorial! helped me a lot
Thank you very much from Russia!
Большое спасибо из России!
thanks a bunch for the headsup on the downsides. appreciate that a lot
this helped me alot today thanks !
09.23 zip file is not upload. how to upload zip?
Hey peoples! I'm trying to use sheep it but it not works. Can someone help here?
I have this error (Since active "output file" nodes result in files being written to arbitrary locations on the renderer's system we do not allow it.
We will accept your .blend if you mute the node.)
I really don't understand what's going wrong...
That error message, sounds like you used a File Output node in the Compositing nodes of your project. That specific node doesn't work on sheepit renderfarm, it says. I'm not sure what render farm that node would work on, anyway. So you'll have to delete or mute that one node.
This is a guess, as I have never encountered this problem.
@@randomaccount6111 you're right. That was the source of the problem. I didn't understand because I had disabled the use of compositing pipeline in the output settings of Blender but it wasn't enough. The use of nodes must be disabled in the Compositor editor itself with the corresponding ckeckbox.
Thanks, awesome! just one quick question, sorry if its too basic but Im not really used to this workflow and I wanna make sure> ppl can SEE your assets, but they CANT download them right? In my case all my Indie shortfilm's assets were created by me, so I have no issues, and I don't wanna sound envious but I wouldn't like ppl having them, at least until my project is out anyways. I'd love to see this work frfom the other end just to see how much access you can have to models, textures and other assets in the scene... thanks again!
Has there been any encryption option built in since a couple of years ago?
I think your tile size is not correct for the gpu thats why your pc takes a lot of time
Question: I have a water simulation and the water cache is about 3 GB, how can I upload this to SheepIT? Because it's max500mb and that's definitely not enough.
every time add project..
it keeps saying "You must have rendered at least 10 frames to be able to add a project."
Why is that and how to render other's people project to get points
extremely helpful
Thank you for the tutorial, i subscribed, but i have a question.. i have used the dynamic sky add-on which is build-in, in 2.8 version, will it show up in sheep-it results ?
If I'm being completely honest, I"m not sure. That's a good question though.
Yea
and because of all this restrictions we need a cloud renderer that leaves your data local, that must be possible or ?
But, if we don't have a GPU, does this render farm provide us with a fast GPU?
Thanks, very good tutorial! My file blend huge(2.5GB), how can render it on Sheep-it?
In the q and a section of the website it tells you how to split up your blwnd file into multiple smaller files allowing you to render seperate and the join them back
@@goldfish2784 This could use a tutorial all by itself....hint, hint tyler
@@knight2255 that is true i my self could not figure it out
How to render a fluid please make a video for that and compression
For whatever reason, I can't seem to change the SheepIt settings, like the computer name and auto sign in. It's annoying me, what am I doing wrong?
too good to be true
Hello dude i need help. I uploaded a project and i had fluids and i baked all the frames but during the rendering in render farm from few rendered projects i dont see my smoke simulation what should i do?
Wait... so I have to give people access to use my gpu in order for me to have other people render my animation..?
I am just installed sheepit. And it start to render frames and that is not my file. Hpw much it take to finish?
Christopher Nolan be laughing seeing this render just take 2 days... But in Interstellar black hole scene, it's almost accurate formula of the black hole so the render takes 100 hours for one frame... 🗿🗿🗿🔥🔥🔥
So did it take 10 days to render like it said or?
The estimator said you needed 62000 points but you seem to have only 27000 so how did your render got completed?
And how long did it took including waiting
I made this a while ago and can't remember the exact time to be honest with you. As for the points - if my recollection is correct it made my point balance negative. Not sure if it will still do this or not, it's been a while since I've rendered an animation.
@TylerSerino ohh that makes sense it allows points to go in negative rather than stopping the animation midway that's nice
Thanks for the info 👍❤️
It says i have to render atleast 10 frames before rendering
i have rendered a fluid animation with sheep it and all the time the result was just some weird shapes.
Anybody else having this problem?
if yes, do you have any idea of what i could tri?
Did you baked the animation???
@@gamingrevolution9883 yes
@@gamingrevolution9883 it was just a still image that wasnt even related to my scene
i did a simple scene to test, it rendered in no time but i can't download my frames ,it's been an hour and it still says generating archive
thanks man
sir when i rendered my animation then its finished its just stuck on a gear icon rotating around the download button is not appearing on my finished render on sheepit
How can I choose between cycles and Eevee render engine on Sheepit
@Mitchell Warrick thank you !
I keep getting NaN in the progress bar and as far I know the blend file meets all the requirements for sheepit
Has the privacy issue at 1:00 been fixed recently? Or is there a way to get around this privacy problem?
I am unable to log in to the sheepit render farm website. it gives me a message that I must disable ad blocker for the site. However, it is disabled. This is extremely frustrating.
Can we render simulations ?? from sheep-it because I'm getting only emitter object rendered !
We're I can deinstall cheap it ? I can't find it.
Thanks
Why won't it let me: use it to render for others? *OR USE MY GPU?*
When I send my file it does not bring this window please who knows what to do
Thanks for the tutorial, it was very specific ... However, can you tell me, if I want to use Grasswald, for vegetation, will it render on other people's computers ???
Graswald
I'm sorry I'm not very familiar with Graswald. Is this a plugin? If so, probably not. External scripts are disabled.
@@TylerSerino yes it's a plug-in that generates realistic grass..
@@minhazulferdous8600 If you use external plugins, there is still a possible chance to convert it to a normal mesh. Even if you use separate plugins to create something. So in order to use external plugins you have to keep in mind that you convert everything out of the ordinary blender supported stuff into a normal mesh, that you then again animate like you animated the plugin created object. Most of the time a plugin created object is just simplifying a complex working process we do all over again. No rocket science there... ;)
Is it necessary to render in camera viewpoint because i rendered without camera and it didnt work
I am collecting points right now so I can render something in future but the Sheepit directory is now taking 4gb of space. So can I delete any files from it or not just wanted to check.
TSYM! i was having such a problem using sheepit
Is it free forever or have limits?
Forever.
how is your blend file size just 3mb mine is like 70 to 800 mb is there any way to reduce it
When I opened the client, it reaches 100 percent and stops moving.
Please help me!
I'm sorry for my bad English skill
Same please help
your english is fine
@@yojanahole9763 it is because you have a low end pc
hello sir can you tell the procedure that how can I download sheep it on Mac
I render 1 frame, and I cannot render, because I need to render at least 10 frame from the community which I don't know how long it is going to take
Yea in some cases it may not be the ideal solution. Ie, rendering one frame in a pinch. What I would do is allow my computer to render frames when I am not using it/sleeping to stack up points. I got a laptop recently and have been just letting it render continuously, so that in the future if I need it in a pinch the points are there.
@@TylerSerino I see. I thought about it too. But finally I chose another site. Thanks anyways 🤘
objects suddenly change position when uploaded and rendered it with sheep-it, what might I be doing wrong?
Interesting, are you doing any kind of physics simulations, or using external add-ons of any sort?
Nope, I don't use any, its just a camera moving through space following a follow path that travels along large letters.
@@arielramos8959 That's interesting. Is it the letters that are getting reoriented weird, or the cameras positioning? I would definitely ask about this in the blender discord cause I've never seen that happen (there's a channel for sheepit)
Hmmm... I've noticed that the font isn't the same, so maybe sheep-it was not able to read it in the blend file (or if it was even stored on the blend file). I'm currently changing all text into mesh and try to render it again. Hopefully it'll solve the problem.
Ok, so if I need render cloth animation sheep-it will not work?
You’d have to bake it first
Bro for me integrated gpu not working.. if i hit win key+g to see gpu usage it's shows zero and my drivers are up to date..because of this blender is very slow... ---------------------HELP------------------------please....
GPU isn't working when trying to render with it? I'm a bit confused, you say blender is running very slow because of it. Are you having this issue with sheepit, or from within blender itself when trying to render your own project?
Well in either case, when you try to switch to GPU in the render tab of blender, if its grayed out, then its not enabled and you have to go to the user preferences to enable it. Also, make sure your GPU is supported by blender, there is a list here: code.blender.org/2019/04/supported-gpus-in-blender-2-80/
Hey how do I zip my blender project?
Hi! I didn't get the part where you were speaking about that people who render my project will see the renders. So do they see the renders only or also have access mo the actual files?
i think both
That's actually sad if true. And outweights all the profit I can get
If we input a blender file to render, do we have to wait untill it finish or it will automatically render even if we power off our pc?
the program says "failed to authenticate check name and password" even though I input the correct username and password
great Tutorial...but some how sheep it doesn't render my movie clip which is the actual background of my VFX work.it does rendered the 3d vie port's render layer but cannot do with the background movie clip..any idea to resolve this?
Wouldn't it will faster if you turn on denoising at the compositing tab and lowering the samples u use to 128 or 256.
Yeah that's what I'm doing.. it seemed wayy easier 🤔
what if the rendering doesn't come out the uv map what should i do
Can i use add-ons like Mcprep on Sheep it?
Too many samples. Try 64 with denoise in nodes. Render much more faster and result proprably almost the same. Good tutorial. Thanks
Everytime I render a frame. It wont render but its saying its rendering. Ignore my username btw
Don't think of it as repetition think of it as updated its hard to find up to date videos would like to see the beginner series aswell
In the client software it said that we downloaded other people's file, Should I emptied out something or does the program does that automatically?
so my thing is stuck on NaN%
Is that faster than my 3090 ? (cycle)
I have downloaded the rendered file which includes all the frames. How will now convert it as video? The file does not have any format and I am not able to import it to either premier or after effect.
If you downloaded the individual frames you should have a folder filled with jpgs or pngs (i can't remember which). It may be zipped. If you're getting a file with no extension that's strange and i'd ask in the sheepit section of the blender official discord.
Hi there! Thanks for your video! Does anyone know why it Sheep It it renders only one same image for all the frames?
Does anyone know how I can remove the frame counter in sheepit
its marked for potential harm to my device and also when I run the exe file it wanted to run smart cast?
can i join your team?
when i try to log in the sign in button doesn't do anything. at the forum page it says "You have not been authenticated by Apache."
Hmm I'm not sure why that might be, this is something I would bring up to the mods of sheepit. They have discord channels setup here: discord.com/invite/7R7rNqP (you can find this link in the FAQ on the sheepit website in case you lose it or it doesn't work for some reason)
Hi, do you know how i can render a scene which has sverchok elements in it? is there a way i can bring the add on into sheep it?
0:23 is there a chance to blown up my pc if the community use it to render there animation?
p.s. i have a very minimum spec pc
@Karsen Animations i have a gt 710 and i3
bro, how much time to wait for generate archive ?
has anyone tried to upload mantaflow projects to sheepit. it would be great to know how!
Does it render gfx animations fast too?
why you are cranking your samples ? it doesnt need to be this many samples
Is this good for single frame rendering?
Absolutely. Why do you need to wait 4 hours to render one great scene with many hires textures and heavy shading methods if you can just wait like 20 minutes (of rendering only), and to get it free
@@KageToHikari_CG 500mb max for the blender file, this is not much for a great scene with many hires textures and heavy shading methods
@@impact66100 Forgot about that, but you can still cut the scene into layers etc, or sacrifice the resolution of not so important textures
Anyway, beginners don't usually build scenes over 500 MB, my last and biggest one with over 16 million triangles, poorly but still animated two characters with baked 2k textures, a bunch of other 2k textures + 4k HDRI doesn't even hit 200 MB, so this render farm is the perfect opportunity for beginners to render things their computer just can't.
Tried to render this scene, and 10 hours weren't enough for my GTX 1050. Many small but important details were lost because of OptiX on 256 samples, gonna try Sheep-It, 2K and 1024 samples now
@@KageToHikari_CG I created an account this morning, (LOCALD) Maybe I will render some frames of your project =)
is 8000 samples very high ? I think it is , can you clarify this for me please ?
yes it is i normally have it on 128 samples but i am also using an denoiser
Why won't it work when I render a fluid simulation?
u can zip the cache and the blend file in a same folder and if it is below 500mb then it'll render
took me 1 minute to render, tried it without sheep-it the eta was 1hr
This is meant for large projects and people who have really shitty pc's
can i close the tab when it renders? can i shut down my computer and come back the next day?
Once its uploaded to sheepit you can yes.
I've downloaded completely free-to-use models, can I use them with Sheep-It?
yes
does the compositor work with frame splitting?
does it have a day limit for rendering your projects?
Not that I'm aware of
@@TylerSerino i mean,, example: we have a project that too long to render, so people will block our project, and after 1 week, does the project will dissapear from queue or it still there until it finish??
@@cgGreenstar That I'm not sure of. I find that if the project is too long and people block it just never renders. But I have never waited for one week.
