My father used to have a co-worker who dressed like that. Those high water pants and the light colored socks with the dark shoes and pants. He walked funny too. Instead of walking 'heel to toe' like most people, he would pick up his entire foot at once.
Burnett said she got letters from people who grew up in a family like this, who said she helped them to laugh over situations that were not especially funny when you lived them the first time. It is meant to be uncomfortable and funny at once.
Minds me of mine own dearly beloved mom n dad n sis she's only 1 left my folks fought like this every mealtime all the time goin anywhere to a funeral a party out to dinner , it was crazy , life was very hard for them n us , uh What's disfunctio nAl mean all we did was work night and day , to feed many many people , people would stop by at dinner occasionally and literally run away it was funny then, mom would say well what's a matter with them huh , etc etc just so much like Mrs Lawrence and then she'd sit n laff. Laff at her n Eunice n poor Ed , I miss them all our aunt's uncles grandparents so much now , it's funny but it also hurts so much to see theses old shows . It was the best of times , it was the worst of times , til now just really the end of time for n ol guy now just Waitin to go home in another dimension far away .I hope I hope we can get the 60s,n 70s , tv , n rock music there just lower the volume on the hollering .
I'm a 5th generation Texan and I used to watch the Mama and Eunice episodes as much as possible. I remember how my mother and I would die laughing at these skits. They reminded us so much of some of our older relatives and hearing country folks talk exactly like these characters. Carol Burnett was from San Antonio, Texas, which probably explains where she got her inspiration to do these brilliant skits.
Funerals....when everyone shows up...in-laws and out-laws...all under one roof for an hour...and then the bickering starts all over again. Things that happened years past etc. are once again brought to light. Funerals, like family reunions...make for a good day's entertainment.
The acting is incredible and feels so real, and that makes it also hit close to home. Eunice tries so hard to receive her mother's affection only to be pushed away every time, and in turn she takes out her frustration on Ed. Worse, her sister Ellen who does basically nothing is called "darling" and "generous."
I don't about anyone else but I could not STOP laughing. God, Mama was a person you wanted to strangle!!! What a terrific skit, real talent unlike today's crap on television!
I AGREE.THEY WE'RE AWESOME MAMA WAS PERFECT. YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO PLAY THE PERSON YOU DON'T LIKE SO MUCH..JUST LIKE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW TAKE OUT BARNEY YOU GOT NO SHOW..
+Alice McLeod As an older man myself who watched the entire Saturday night line-up including this show I couldn't agree with you more. Today's television comedy is mostly crap!
OGSpaceCadet Of course my family and I always considered the area to be in the south, but they supposedly live in Raytown, which is just outside K.C.MO.
This was too funny! I remember watching these episodes as a kid, and thinking how badly Mama treated Eunice and Eunice was always there for her mother, unlike her other daughter, Ellen, (Betty White). Oh and feeling sorry for her husband, Ed,having to be in the middle of all that family drama.
This family is highly dysfunctional. You can see why Eunice is the way she is. Her mother always favored her sister Ellen more (Ellen never paid much attention to her mother). And Eunice was the daughter who always did so much and her mother always criticized and degraded her. These skits are supposed to be comical but at the same time they are heartbreaking. Eunice constantly tries to win her mother’s affection and approval but never receives it. Eunice is histrionic and overreacts to things but it truly is no wonder; Her mother made her that way. It truly stems from her childhood experiences. If I had a mother like she has, I would cut her out of my life completely. That is the first step to healing. I have a father who never showed my brother or myself much affection but will shower his stepchildren and step-grandchildren with affection and show he loves them. We choose to maintain a distance. We love our father but we do it from afar. We stay away from him and his wife (who is just like Eunice’s mother) and her family. When you remove the source of the problem then healing can begin. It’s sad you have to do that with a parent, but it’s sometimes necessary when the parent is toxic or narcissistic. I’m sorry if this sounds too psychologically analytical but this is how I relate to these skits when I see them. I do laugh at the comedy but I also see the serious and dark side to them as well.
And out of all three Harper children, Eunice is the only one Mama has left now. Both Ellen (Betty White) and Vinton (Ken Berry) are gone. Ed (Harvey Korman) and Mickey Hart (Tim Conway) are working at the Big Hardware Store Up Yonder.
Interesting bit of fact! Particularly for a non American like me... that Americans can be as loud, petty, mean spirited, and crude as .... Punjabis. We all love crudeness it seems.
mark40511 Yes lol. And now she has the face to match the age Mama was supposed to be. And funny thing is Vicki Lawrence is now older than Mama was supposed to be on the show. But she doesn't have the gray curly hair; people used to age faster back in the 80s.

Heartwarming, brilliant Real Classic TV. None better. Carol is The one and only foever! LOVE
I just love Carol Burnett l watch her shows every day
My late wife’s brother was one of the writers on the mama’s family show. He also wrote for full house.
I watch carol burnett show every single Saturday nite I sure do miss this show
Poor Eunice, she needs a hug and somebody to love her. She tries so hard. Love these skits, we all have family like these characters
She desperately needs therapy.
The thing that gets me about the Carol Burnett character…she always wore those white shoes!! 😂😂😂
I had an Aunt Mae. She and my great grandfather were brother and sister. She was a very sweet, gracious, kind lady. She died around 1966.
I could watch these skits over and over and over again, l love them
Oh, Lord, will this day never end?
It will, when the clock strikes midnight.
I feel Ed. All he wanted to do was watch his bugs bunny. He sure does put up a lot
Comedy gold and still funny after all these yrs ,better than new TV ,thanks for sharing ,
I love Carol Burnett and everyone of the other comediennes on her show! Brilliant entertainment!
Woke up feeling kinda feverish.🤒. So Glad I have this show to help me feel better. THANK YOU!!🥰
🌼☕🍵🥭🍯 here's hoping you get well soon!
the acting...the writing...BRILLIANT!
Sometimes I get depressed then I watch this stuff and I am rolling on the floor a couple beers helps
These two are so funny together, I love watching this show, makes me happier than i am!!
My absolute favorite skit is the one where they're playing SORRY.🤣
The Momma and Eunice sketches were the best. I had a cousin we would call Eunice whenever she got witchy.
Love Carol Burnett and love Mamas Family with Vicki Lawrence. So much talent. Thanks for posting.
Bring back this kind of TV
coolsweetgroovy Nothing is funny like that, today is just vulgarity and not fun
Lol! My family used to just crack up over "The Family". Those were some good memories. 😂🤣😅
i too,,, find it easy to forget that Vikie is a cute red head. this whole "Family" skit just blew us away back when...... it was a must see show back then.
I just love The Carol Burnett Show specially Eunice and Mama I wish they had shows like this still coming on TV they were so funny clean fun whole family will gather round just to watch it she is hilarious my favorite comedian is Carol Burnett always wish I could meet her one day my godmother looks just like her awesome beautiful lady
Carol Burnett......American Icon .....doesnt get better
LOL. This reminds me a lot of people I know in my neck of the woods in Virginia. Funerals are certainly melodramatic.
Same here in West Virginia 😃
"Who gets the silver??"
Mama reminds me of a resident i work with in the retirement home whos 94 lmao every time i see her she go a new story to tell me about her children. Or rants about some one she knew who died in her family she couldn't stand. 😂😂😂😂
Look at Harvey's pants and socks when they're sitting on the couch. These people really paid attention to the details.
Yes classic!
You are so right! I would have missed that.😊✌️
Yup, Harvey was better dressed when he was Hedy Lamar
@@billolsen4360 That's HEDLEY! 🤣
My father used to have a co-worker who dressed like that. Those high water pants and the light colored socks with the dark shoes and pants. He walked funny too. Instead of walking 'heel to toe' like most people, he would pick up his entire foot at once.
The only two shows, that can keep me laughing when I am feeling sad. Mama's Family and I Love Lucy ❤😂😂😂
Poor Ed!😞 He has to put up with these two everyday!
Burnett said she got letters from people who grew up in a family like this, who said she helped them to laugh over situations that were not especially funny when you lived them the first time. It is meant to be uncomfortable and funny at once.
Minds me of mine own dearly beloved mom n dad n sis she's only 1 left my folks fought like this every mealtime all the time goin anywhere to a funeral a party out to dinner , it was crazy , life was very hard for them n us , uh
What's disfunctio nAl mean all we did was work night and day , to feed many many people , people would stop by at dinner occasionally and literally run away it was funny then, mom would say well what's a matter with them huh , etc etc just so much like Mrs Lawrence and then she'd sit n laff. Laff at her n Eunice n poor Ed ,
I miss them all our aunt's uncles grandparents so much now , it's funny but it also hurts so much to see theses old shows .
It was the best of times , it was the worst of times , til now just really the end of time for n ol guy now just
Waitin to go home in another dimension far away .I hope
I hope we can get the 60s,n 70s , tv , n rock music there just lower the volume on the hollering .
Yes, the mama's family skit Is timeless classic comedy!!!
Carol Burnett is the best lol to funny i loved this show
I don't about anyone else but I could not STOP laughing. God, Mama was a person you wanted to strangle!!! What a terrific skit, real talent unlike today's crap on television!
+Alice McLeod it's like listening to chickens cackle when they are yelling at each other! but brilliantly funny chickens!
Mama was more likable in the tv series. But she still had a grudge against Eunice.
+LibertyGiveMe amen!
Love the white shoes with the black dress Eunice lol
I noticed that too!!
The shoes matched the handbag. Good look ☺
Finally we see her im a different dress
@@shandaabsar7739 But it is the exact same style! 🙃
'the white shoes'... My aunt used to wear a black pair like that!!
If you're from the South and had a real Aunt Mae, like me, this skit is a little too real!😁 I even have an Aunt Eunice. 😨😨😨
OGSpaceCadet
Of course my family and I always considered the area to be in the south, but they supposedly live in Raytown, which is just outside K.C.MO.
You're the first person I've met, other than myself, with an Aunt Eunice!
Amen to that..my kin folk are from Mississippi. This all so true! Hahaba
@@robingift1635 Heck yeah! I live in South Mississippi and this is my family to a T!!!

I am in tears of joy and laughter watching this on Saturday Sept. 14th,2019. It was my favorite.
I disowned those fake parents a long time ago.
@@ijnfleetadmiraldon't forget Phillip. I believe he was played by Roddy McDowell.
"You ordered up two cars to take you to this funeral so you're going!" Priceless. ^_^
"Mama, I'm not wearing any gloves, I told you I don't like to wear gloves so I'm not going to wear any gloves." LOL!!
My all time favorite is Carol Burnett and Tim Conway and Mrs. A-Whiggins.
This stuff is classic. And it's SO realistic and down to earth to a fault. Reminds me so much of my own family at times and others I've been around.
Interesting bit of fact! Particularly for a non American like me... that Americans can be as loud, petty, mean spirited, and crude as .... Punjabis.
We all love crudeness it seems.
It's so true to life. I'm a native Texan and have encountered people like these!
This is television gold.
Vicki Lawrence was about 27 here playing Mama...crazy huh?
mark40511 Yes lol. And now she has the face to match the age Mama was supposed to be.
And funny thing is Vicki Lawrence is now older than Mama was supposed to be on the show. But she doesn't have the gray curly hair; people used to age faster back in the 80s.
Always have a job you can grow into.
And she still looks the same as she did years ago
@@VigilanteVegan People did not age faster. People age at various rates. It depends on your diet, drinking, smoking, drugs, stress, getting enough sleep, and many other things.
@@VigilanteVegan People did not age faster. Some people age faster. Some age slower, and she was a young woman at the time. She did not have grey hair. She was wearig a wig.
