    The rut is the exact same time in your area every year. Figure out when the rut happens in your area and it will never change for you. If you believe it does change then you are pressuring deer and not seeing the signs like others around you are. Be consistent and hunt cold fronts/after a rain/and reductions from high wind speeds 😁

      @@christianwilkins3033 yes sir. I love walking in about an hour before a long lasting hard rain is going to end. Gets you to the stand undetected and ready for primetime. Deer do move in light rain sometimes from my experience but not the big boys. They know they lose their competitive advantage of smell in rain. They stay bedded until it stops is what I have noticed. Good luck this season 😁

    The moon has nothing to do with the timing of the rut! It's the photo period, or the amount of darkness that triggers the rut and that doesn't change much if at all. First 10 days of November are always the best time to hunt here in the northeast with Nov 5th being a great day to be out there. Charlie as well as deer and deer hunting magazine have been selling these moon calendars for years making money off of fiction.

    I had a real smart man who raised deer tell me that the rutting moon is bogus. It's the shortening of daylight that turns on the breeding process for doe's. Plus the maturity level plays a part, some younger does for yearlings will come into heat as late as January/Feb. There is no second rut either, just delayed responses on does depending on age. He told me if a doe comes into heat, she'll get bred either by a young or mature buck, she won't be missed.

      This has been proven false by many scientific studies. Mainly aging fawns in road kill deer. Dan was a understudy and friend of Charlie. I can understand his respect for him. He provided lots of useful information on whitetail deer. Having said that pushing this moon affecting peak rut is just irresponsible. It’s false and been proven wrong by countless credibility scientific studies… Also many believe pre rut is better than peak rut. There is lots of chasing and scraping without lockdown. Many vacation days I have wasted during rut and ran into lockdown and zero deer movement all during so called peak rut.

Thats where she likes to be when she breeds cause thats where she feels safe and the home owner have video of it from each year. Moon has 0 (zero) to do with the rut. It has EVERYTHING to do with the Does in the area and when they start their estress cycles. That is determined by when they are born. I cant believe that any company would push this crap nowadays

    Crossbows can shoot 50 yards cause it has a scope and a trigger. I don't know how it is in most states but I live in Maine and it was always crossbows hunt during rifle season, 3-4 years ago they changed it and crossbows hunt during archery season. Here it's basically October is archery and November is rifles and 2 weeks in December for muzzleloader. And I'm sure they did it to get more people into archery, but that is what I enjoyed about archery compared to rifle season, alot less people, alot less pressure, wear camo as apposed to bright orange, and of course I can see for some people a regular bow, compound, long, recurve, and on, aren't an option, being too small, elderly, disability, and on, but I know so many guys that never bow hunted, never wanted to how hunt and when the law changed , they took the course bought a crossbow and go tramping through the woods now like they would with a gun. Last sat had a guy right under my stand till I finally whistle at him, mind you it's my family private land that is posted quite well. Just in my opinion, crossbows have a scope and a trigger, new ones don't even have to pull back yourself, just a crank, they should be used during rifle season, unless you can't use a regular bow due to disability.

    • @Dennis-fs6zo
      @Dennis-fs6zo 3 года назад

      A bow can shoot 50 yards too. Doesn’t mean you should do it. How many deer are lost to a bad shot with a compound bow (long bow is the original) as compared to a cross bow. Rifles have evolved too. I say if you’re an ethical hunter use your tool of choice. I use a compound and a cross bow in its season. It’s no rifle as many claim.

      Yeah, the bottom line is a hunter who hunts "archery" with a crossbow doesn't want to spend the time practicing to be proficient. Archery is a close range sport. I get tired of the laziness in our hunting society. Now just grab a crossbow, don't bother practicing, shoot further than what you should and hope for the best. There are many shots passed whether with a traditional bow or compound due to many more variables involved.

    It kinda sucks that people like you have taken away - from everyone - the choice of a bit less crowded deer hunting season (archery) in favor of a pseudo gun season (in terms of numbers of hunters) to go along with regular gun seasons. Of course archery seasons have always been concurrent with small game, waterfowl, pheasant, and other seasons. But doubling or tripling or whatever the number of "bowhunters" (by allowing crossbows for all) kinda screws up archery seasons, especially for those hunting public land.
    I know you guys don't care...won't waste any more time here. Carry on! Hey, maybe you can get "airbows" legalized for archery seasons too! (Shouldn't be too much of a leap, in your mind, to convince yourself that you're still "bowhunting") LOL
