My theory is that Sisyphus isn't just fighting you for fun, but due to your potential. He died fighting a war he knew he would lose, and was proud and happy to die fighting for what he believed in. His voice lines almost seem like they're motivating you "Keep em' comin" followed by "Yes! Thats it!" When you get him to half heath, I think its very possible he not only sees you as a worthy challenge, but also views you as an opertunity, afterall, you have defeated a Prime Soul, and bested Gabriel twice now, maybe you could win the war he couldn't.
Whether it's some kind of odd 4th wall break, or that the terminals/hell keep bringing back v1 over and over again, it would ultimately lead to the same conclusion. In these circumstances sisyphus knows it's a futile struggle, if v1 just endlessly comes back he cant truly win, just like always. One must imagine sisyphus happy

I realized that the motif playing repeatedly starting at 2:07 reflects Sisyphus's eternal punishment, pushing a boulder up the hill just to let it fall back down again to start it all over again. It's angry, it's hatred, it's menacing and I love it.
"ahhh, free, at last... Oh... Gabriel, now dawns thy reckoning, and thy gore shall GLISTEN, before the temples of man! Creature, of steel, my gratitude upon thee for my freedom, but the crimes, thy kind have committed against humanity, ARE NOT, forgotten... And thy punishment... IS ULTRAKILL!"

@@adonouwataam3616 doomed? ii was doomed once. they locked me in a panopticon. a fleshy panopticon. a fleshy panopticon filled with robots. and robots make me doomed.
I love the differences between this song and ORDER, ORDER is a lot more dramatic to reflect the tragedy of Minos, he desperately wants vengeance and to help his people, meanwhile this theme is a lot more like an intense, almost funky, basic boss theme, some of the motifs are almost menacing, Sisyphus doesn’t have any real reason to kill you, it’s simply fun for him
The more I listen to the track, the more I start to notice an emotion in the leitmotif part. Where ORDER gives us a grieving rage, WAR seems to give something else, a feeling of heroism. A last stand where, no matter the outcome, you've already won, and you can die in a blaze of glory one last time.
The breakdown at 2:30 goes absolutely fucking NUTS. I was thinking "hm, this song is pretty good, but not as good as order" and then that started playing while I was getting annihilated by one of Sisyphus' "nothing personal kid' attacks and I changed my mind
i remember angrily saying to myself "he just fucking teleports behind you and says 'nothing,, personnel kid...' then kills you instantly" lmao, thank you for reminding me
I have finally beaten this fuck after two hours of nonstop torment. I genuinely did not think anything could be worse than Minos. I fucking dread to even begin to think of what nightmare P-3 will be.
Especially now knowing the massive skill jump between P-1 and P-2. Oh yeah. It's gonna be absolute hell (most likely takes place in the 9th layer of Hell too)
I really like how both songs for the Prime Souls are very similar, but also have unique differences that embody the characters they represent. It's a bit hard for me to describe, but when you factor in the lore of these characters (And the leitmotifs used in their themes), it becomes a lot more noticeable. For Minos Prime, we have a song that represents the anger of a gentle man. An act of cold vengeance in which the one performing it takes no pleasure in such an act. Fitting for a man embittered by what became of himself. On the other hand, Sisyphus Prime has a song that sounds akin to a stampede. An army charging headlong into battle, bearing love for this act of rebellion and lacking the fear of consequences. Fitting for a man emboldened by what became of himself. ...And yet, both songs have a segment of melancholy to them, showing how these Souls were given form by the same circumstances; indignation against Heaven's eternal cruelty and what such cruelty did to the people they loved. Incredible work, Hakita.
I also like the thematic irony of their prisons too. Lust was the domain of King Minos, so it makes sense that he is trapped in a flesh prison, such that those who fall to lust are prisoners to the pleasures of the flesh. By contrast, Sisyphus, being the embodiment of insurrection and freedom cannot be contained by a panopticon, designed as the most efficient way to keep people under surveillance and incarcerated. I like to think he could leave anytime he wanted, but waited for you to come along.
@@ricochet8104 I actually think his greed is just that he loves fighting way, way too much; maybe some kind of combat addiction. Even after a fight, he probably hasn't had enough; with his general lack of regrets, it'd make sense that he wanted to keep fighting to his grave.
I was SO confused when the Panopticon stopped attacking, with little to no damage taken... ... Little did I know that I was about to fight something much worse... ... BEST ENTRANCE EVER!
@@spartan7375Sisyphus rolled the boulder up the mountain with no regrets for millennia. He could have escaped the Panopticon if he wanted to, but as soon as he saw an opponent that would be fun to fight, he broke out. Though the reason he didn’t break out was to disrespect the angels. They feared he could break out at any time as his prime souls began forming before his imprisonment, which means he could have torn apart Heaven long before V1 arrived if he so pleased.
@@spartan7375 i don't think so. Sisyphus was probably waiting for a good point to break out. either that or we just got unlucky when he decided it was time to break free
@@TheAbyssalStorm King Sisyphus’ rolled the boulder for cheating death in Greek mythology. In Ultrakill’s lore his punishment was the panopticon for rebelling against heaven.
Interesting thing I wish to note: while ORDER, for the name to work, kept itself within a constant 3/4ths time signature restriction, WAR instead switches time signatures repeatedly like CHAOS once did. I may need to relisten to PANDEMONIUM, but I don't know if I remember that song switching time signatures as often. Maybe, to this extent, Sisyphus' themes are a reversal of Minos' musical structure. Where Minos' track was refined, melancholy and almost regal, and Flesh Prison sought to overwhelm the senses with visceral horrors unimaginable, Sisyphus' is hectic, frantic, exciting and glorious, even if it's all for nought. ORDER was an orchestra of sorrow, tragedy and justice. WAR is a last-ditch effort *battle-cry.*
Order (as far as key signatures are concerned) begins in E minor, the briefly modulates to G minor then back to E minor and back to G minor before going to B flat minor when the Requiem leitmotif happens. Rinse and repeat. War’s case is that it begins in A minor then modulates to E minor then back to A minor when the Sands of Tide leitmotif happens. Rinse and repeat. Curse of Absolute Pitch.
"WAR". No better title for King Sisyphus, who waged war with passion, without remorse, and without regret. His hands and feet eternally stained by the blood of angels.
2:09 I have a theory this looping section here before the leitmotif, is representative of Sisyphus's punishment. It keeps coming back again and again just like the boulder he pushes. But then he breaks free (the cresendo) to revolt against heaven.
...So concludes the life and times of King Sisyphus; a fitting end, to an existence defined by futile struggle. Doomed, from the very start. *And I don't regret a SECOND of it.*
Sorry but "Child of Man" is an absolutely banger line, and I love it, it's really like poetry, the father creates the man, and the man creates his own form of life
2:29 I’ve never experienced a point in music that gives me physical strength. It wouldn’t matter if I’ve been gassed over a half marathon, barely trudging the final kilometre, but if this was playing I would instantly break into a sprint until I just couldn’t run any more and collapse. It feels like my maximum weights become warm ups. My body heats up, blood starts pumping, and a shock runs up my spine. This not only pairs beautifully with Sisyphus Prime, especially Ultrakill’s rendition of Sisyphus in lore, but it is simply a mastercraft of music if it is capable of resonating a feeling like this. Sisyphus was a proud warlord and leader of an army of sinners, waging war against the kingdom of god himself solely for the sake of ultimate rebellion. He lost, but like this song, the story of Sisyphus rings through my ears like wardrums on a battlefield. Thank you Hakita Sisyphus Prime on Violent + Radiance is my favourite video game fight of all time. Trav put it as a ‘beautiful dance of combat and choreography’ and I couldn’t agree more. I like to imagine that the boss tracks represent what each prime soul went through in hell. In heaven, there was a breakout of chaos/pandemonium, which then Minos/Sisyphus took advantage of by either establishing ORDER or by assembling an insurrection that would upscale into a full-fledged WAR.
It's not like he doesnt care, him comitting vile atrocities for the sake of his comrades states otherwise. He get high of rebelling against anything that opresses him, which happens to be heaven.

The "Keep them coming" line actually gives me two possible ideas. One is that V1 is constantly replaced after dying, and that Sisyphus probably has killed alot of those robots alone and with his bare fists.
both sisyphus and minos are seemingly aware of V1 respawning, I imagine this has something to do with the terminals. Considering the lore we know so far and the timer continuing when you respawn instead of resetting it wouldnt be so far fetched that the terminals can just recreate/rebuild V1. So replacement is sorta correct I suppose
you know reading that terminal made me think are we part of hell and it's terminals?? because we can kind of relate to it with everything going inside the layers of hell as entertainment to us
Actually, I can support another theory to you people here. Thru an ARG from this update, we have new lore: Hell is alive, and it's been taking part of machines and husks to mix them and torture souls for entertainment. This includes the common "room traps" in which we usually find ourselves in. "Hell's entertainment" and "stealing parts of machines" are key factors on what I think. Hell is rebuilding V1 constantly to entertain itself.
My idea is that all attempts are simulations until the one where the terminals know you'll beat the boss and that one's real Dunno what to say about the speech though, maybe both fighters have self-awareness or the terminals do some weird gaslit fucky shit to you
People had been saying that this isn't as good as ORDER but I think it's great if not better, even if slightly. It gives me chills the same way, anyway!
I love the part that repeats like 5 or 6 times it’s really feels thematic for the man who is known for rolling the boulder up a hill only for it to come down
sisyphus sometimes mentions "BE GONE!" during the battle. This is not referring to the player itself, but is in fact referring to the player's will to live.

@@toddhoward3846 I think its because you activating the flesh prison woke him up and then he broke out
Let's not forget that Sisyphus is supossed to represent greed, wich represents his lust for power.
@@ricochet8104 I actually think his greed is just that he loves fighting way, way too much; maybe some kind of combat addiction. Even after a fight, he probably hasn't had enough; with his general lack of regrets, it'd make sense that he wanted to keep fighting to his grave.

We Leavin With -69420 Deaths intotal with this one
Bro, at this rate, the 3rd prime soul will just be sitting in one of those fancy chairs listing to, “we’re you foolin” waiting for us, as you see the massive flesh cage behind him ripped open. Takes 1 sip of *BLOOD* and sends us all the way back to 0-0
So... Jesus?
"one must imagine sisyphus happy"
i understand being happy if he can listen to this music 24/7
Love this stuff, hakita and heaven Pearce her never cease to amaze
Ah yes both them
Hakita and Heaven Pierce Her are the same person.... The latter is just Hakita's music-making pseudonym
my favourite two artists hakita and hakita 👍
@@HiroariHourai that's ridiculous.. pls don't spread tht kind of misinformation abt them :///

The "Keep them coming" line actually gives me two possible ideas. One is that V1 is constantly replaced after dying, and that Sisyphus probably has killed alot of those robots alone and with his bare fists.
Same thing with Minos, he says "USELESS" when V1 restarts
both sisyphus and minos are seemingly aware of V1 respawning, I imagine this has something to do with the terminals.
My idea is that all attempts are simulations until the one where the terminals know you'll beat the boss and that one's real
Dunno what to say about the speech though, maybe both fighters have self-awareness or the terminals do some weird gaslit fucky shit to you
I really like War
the song is good too
💀
this MIGHT be Sisyphus
I agree bro, and I also love the song
24/7 SISYPHEAN BEATS TO ROLL BOULDERS FOR ETERNITY TO 🔥🔥🔥
People had been saying that this isn't as good as ORDER but I think it's great if not better, even if slightly. It gives me chills the same way, anyway!
I love the part that repeats like 5 or 6 times it’s really feels thematic for the man who is known for rolling the boulder up a hill only for it to come down
It all comes down to preference at that point, I love both tracks and the characters so much
the requiem motif on order goes hard though
I think it really depends on what kind of music people like. For instance order is a lot more melodic in a way, where as this is more chaotic.
@@stun0845 same goes for the sands of tide motif on this one
NO WONDER ULTRAKILL TAKES PLACE IN HELL, THIS IS FIRE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
everyone’s talking about the godly leitmotif but the buildup before it is great too 2:30
Bro woke up from his nap and really said "help me warm up so I can go bench press Gabriel"
What a great title, Sisyphus is a guy who fought and stuggled his whole life and loved every moment of it.
V1: "Before I go deeper I will crush y-"
*battle music ramps up-*
V1: "I TAKE BAKE MY STATEMENT!!-"
So I showed my friend this when he asked what I was listening to and he said “that sounds like very angry funeral music.” Sounds about right.
"Yes, That's It!"

Lyrics:
"KEEP EM COMING"
"KEEP EM COMING"
"KEEP EM COMING"
"KEEP EM COMING"
"KEEP EM COMING"
sisyphus sometimes mentions "BE GONE!" during the battle. This is not referring to the player itself, but is in fact referring to the player's will to live.
sisyphus is the only video game character to say "BEGONE!" and you're just gone
real
accurate if you're at low health, no dashes ready and he does that while you're in midair
1:45 Goes hard af
Probably not as hard as rolling a boulder up a hill everyday, but still hard
Getting my face slammed in by this level the night it launched, with my friend watching over my shoulder, while the Disco Elysium narrator screamed at us, was one of the most memorable gaming experiences I've had in a very long time.
