I think what makes it more ironic is how minos still seems to have a less personal relationship with v1 than Gabriel has. For minos v1 is a killing machine. For Gabriel v1 is a rival.
Minos doesn't just HAVE drip, he IS the drip. Literally every part of him is a metaphor. His crown signifies that he puts his city above all else, his face or lack thereof signifies that he didn't rule to be known, and his transparency signifies that he was brutally honest. He never hid anything from his subjects. His visible heart signifies that he put his heart out on display for all to see. And snakes curling around his arms signifying that he has control over his Anger, Urges, And the venomous parts of his people. And also he can deliver fair *JUDGEMENT.*
hakita makes dialogue before fights so fucking cool. it's predictable, yes, but hearing shit like "and thy punishment...... *is death.* " with music beginning or "machine, i will cut you down, break you apart, splay the gore of your profane form across the stars. i will grind you down until the very SPARKS cry for mercy. my hands shall RELISH ending you *HERE. AND. NOW.* " with the fight beginning immediately it's so cool
@@GuideTerrarian It really feels calm, concise, and exuding a theme of "I'm confident I can kill you" instead of the angry mess that was Gabriel during the Act II fight. Both hit hard in their own way, but it's that air of confidence that makes Minos Prime sound more intimidating.
The voice crack when Gabriel speaks, specifically when he shouts "my hands shall relish ending you" signifies how he's truly pissed the fuck off at you and will stop at nothing to rip you apart. The calm confidence of "And thy punishment" along with the precise pause before dropping "Is Death." on you is the tone of a man who has all the patience in the world and will kill you over and over and over again til your spirit is broken. Of course V1 wins both fights but you gotta hand it to Gabriel and Minos- they brought swords and their fists to a gunfight and by all counts I'd say they pretty much won considering how many attempts people have had against em both.
@@GuideTerrarian Minos punishes V1 for the crimes against humanity. He didn't even consider the possibility of letting V1 go away unharmed. @@bullcheese2236 i think it's that V1 knows that Gabriel doesn't really care about humans as much as minos, so I guess he let's Gabriel just go after every fight, or it's that Gabriel can run anyways, minos just fights to the death.
@@g1xx98 That's what he said, though: as a machine, V1 wants the humans harvested for their blood, and while Gabriel would only defend Hell because it's part of God's creation, Minos would fight the machines to protect humanity from them. In other words, Minos had to die because he was a threat to the machines' harvest.
Stephan Wayte is an incredible VA. His serious, older, regal interpretation of Minos complements Gianni with his over the top disdainful ANGERY angel voice for Gabriel perfectly. Unbeatable boom shoot duo IMHO.
Minos sounds, looks, and feels like a man of fair judgement. Sounds; the way he talks to you with such a calm yet threatening voice even during battle makes him sound like a man who believes in intentions of actions rather than results. He truly is grateful you freed him but it was most likely for your own selfish intent Looks; He wasn't remembered for his face but rather his actions and figurative big heart, this the hole for a face and see through body. His attacks are blue and yellow, which fits his current calm yet rage fueled state. While not totally pissed off, he's still not happy with you either. Feels; he doesn't go all berserk on you, his actions do feel fueled by anger but it's more concentrated and held back, saving his rage for Gabriel and the heavens. Each move is precise and exact, hes thinking during this fight. and the music backs this up, with loud long notes and an overall sad tone despite the blood pumping fight, because he's lost everything. His people, his body, and, most of all, his mercy.
Kinda funny that King Minos would have technically had a heart the literal size of a pickup truck when he was “alive” and that his prime soul shows that he also had a heart that was the metaphorical size of a pickup truck.
little does he know the machine has genuinely no idea what it was doing and just freed him by complete accident i imagine the machine was just like "oh wow this giant blood bag i just killed dropped this weird orb- oh wow the orb turned into a dude with a hole in his face who's thanking me for freeing him- OH GOD HE DROPKICKED ME"
always said the reason why he always say something before attacking is because he still feel gratitude, he still is gonna juge you for your crime, but also let you have a chance, making sure to let you know what he is about to do every attack
i think sisyphus is next as his husk was almost the same size as minos unless im missing a bit of lore and his soul was destroyed by the tumblr sexy man
I really hope he comes back in some way too interesting of a character to kill off this early. But maybe the magic would wear off if we see him too much.

But the crimes thy kind have committed against humanity are not forgotten." "And thy punishment..." *"IS DEATH."* (Proceeds to dropkick you multiple times because it's funny)
Something I've noticed when I fought him is that when he's at low health, he wouldn't become red unlike the rest of the bosses, instead he would just remain the same. So it just adds up to his "calm yet still threatening" anger
Something else, his second phase basically only adds more stamina until he has to stop attacking. He doesn't get faster, he doesn't get stronger, he just tries harder.

Everytime i hear the Lust motif it gives me goosebumps. Think about it: that was HIS domain. Your kind killed every last living creature, all of his subjects, within that layer. Really pushes forward the point that, from the very moment you released Minos from the prison within his own decaying body, you fucked up.
I *love* the Requiem leitmotif, especially as it's put at the peak. My favourite piece of music in Ultrakill was Requiem, until I found Order. I think Order has become my favourite piece of music, period. Even if not, it's certainly up there. Nothing gets me in the mood to go play Ultrakill and fight Minos Prime on Violent quite as quickly as listening to it. Still haven't P'd it, but I'm damn well close, I just need to improve on time. Definitely the most satisfying boss of any FPS game I played
I doubt V1 is singlehandedly purging Hell. Going off what Gabriel says in Heresy, Limbo and Lust have been completely wiped, with Gluttony soon to follow. But since he says it to you in Heresy, it wouldn't make sense for the cause to be V1. My best guess is since V1 doesn't have to slow down to refuel (since it fuels via contact with blood while all other machines have an entire process they have to do to refuel) and is going pretty damn fast, that V1 is just traversing Hell faster than most other Machines.
The original Order + monologue got taken down, so im gonna paraphrase my favourite comment. 'A hole for a face, a sign of his selflessness.' 'A crown, an inseperable part of his self.' 'And a visible heart, an obvious symbol of his kindness.' 'Truely, Minos deserved the title "King."'
can we just talk about how sad the spiral staircase theme is it sounds like a distant memory with the vinyl crackling and pleasant melody, almost like a reminder of all the good times when minos was alive and the lust layer prospered, but then it slowly turns to nothing but harsh, loud wind and static, symbolizing how the layer fell to it’s own king’s husk its so sad and i didn’t want to kill minos :( he deserved better
His face is empty, as he cares not for vanity. His skin is transparent, so that the world can see his compassionate heart -- just as they did in life. His body is sculpted like a Greek statue, for his divine might is only the work of a man's ironclad will.

@@SugarooLM nah i think they are pretty comparable. Sisyphus is, first and foremost, a leader and a warrior, these are his 2 defining traits besides being an absurdist since hakita is high on camus, but idk how to represent that visually. And these 2 defining traits are here - a head which emanates light as a symbol for his leadership, and bloodied hands and feet as a literal representation of his bloodlust not to mention that his strongman build is not aesthetically pleasing at all, but practical af for many reasons, which differentiates him from minos even more, who is obviously more civilized and still needs to uphold that image of a king and a ruler even after saying all this i personally like minos design more but in terms of representing their characters both are thought out pretty well
Reading the comments and listening to it I really get the sense that Minos takes no joy in what he has to do in killing V-1. It's not bombastic, or heavy. It feels almost ceremonial; Minos is just administering justice. Were it different, had machines not those committed atrocities, Minos likely would've protected V-1 as his own. Which is in excellent contrast to Gabriel, who sees himself above V-1. There's a vanity there that just isn't present with Minos. As someone else pointed out, Gabriel calls V-1 a machine, an object, an insignificant fuck, where Minos refers to V-1 as a creature of steel. This implies that V-1 is a living being, that just so happens to be made of metal and as a living being Minos holds that basal level of regard. Where it's completely absent from Gabriel, who takes joy in trying to kill V-1.
You know what freaks me out? He stretches before fighting, he very gently indicates hes about to kick your ass with his movements, after all that time in a cell he just needs a few moments to stretch and thats all he needs to be ready to fight, a few moments of rest before the battle and he's straight to it after. With that knowledge I can comfortably say Minos would be able to sleep for 30 minutes and stay up for a week and only sleeping again because someone asked him to nap.
“Forgive me, my children. For I have failed to bring you salvation from this cold, dark world...” As Minos's death cries echoed and his body shattered, V1 stood, gun in hand. The King had proven to be an inconvenience, even a straight-up annoyance, almost to the level that Gabriel had. But hearing the sorrow with which he spoke, the machine began to feel something. It didn't know if it liked it. The machine thought back to the king’s words: “But the crimes thy kind have committed against humanity are not forgotten.” Did this man care about the people whose blood ran through V1’s systems? The people whose faces it didn’t even remember? And the anger he expressed towards the Archangel: it was different from the anger from Gabriel toward the machine. He wasn’t angry at his defeat or even imprisonment; he was angry at his attempt to do a good deed being for naught. And now, he had been slain attempting to avenge the wrongs of another. V1’s directives--its “mantra”, in a sense--flashed before its eye, but they continually glitched, refusing to stay stable. Then V1 reached an epiphany. MANKIND IS DEAD. BLOOD IS FUEL. HELL IS FULL. BECAUSE OF ME. This level of introspection was not meant to be reached by the machine or any of its kind. And yet here it was, reaching a realization that it was responsible for so much going wrong in Hell. And now, the last thing resembling hope had been shattered. BECAUSE OF ME. BECAUSE OF ME. BECAUSE OF ME. BECAUSE OF ME. A single drop of red leaked from the mechanical eye of the machine. It took no time to clean it. It made no noise, no acknowledgment. It just lowered its head. Remorse, it thought the humans called it. Guilt. Before, it had no concept of it. Now it flooded the machine’s systems like the blood in its body. The blood it had stolen from these meat bags because it needed to keep running...and for what? Why should it stay alive? No. It knew. It raised its head. A new directive flashed before its eye. GABRIEL, NOW DAWNS THY RECKONING. It couldn’t undo its destruction, and it couldn’t bring back Minos. But its reasons for fighting the Archangel had changed. It would deliver the belated wrath of the king it had slain to Gabriel. It didn't know what had caused such a change in its programming, but it didn’t care. V1 silently swore that Heaven’s woes would be many, and its days few. Starting with Gabriel. (Yes, I know, another cr*ngeworthy fanfic in the comment sections, one that is most likely impossible. I just wanted to write a “What-If” scenario? Y’know, “What if killing Minos Prime caused V1 to experience an epiphany?” I won’t apologize for this. I’m an impulsive writer. Edit: ...Or apparently not cr*ngeworthy. Thank you for the praise, everyone. ^^ )
I honestly hope Minos lived. No evidence, nothing to support this, I just like to imagine his soul was whisked away during the bright flash, mainly cuz I feel he deserves it. He deserves his revenge.
I like how the songs compliment each others boss fights, and the fights also explain why Minos Prime cant do anything about Flesh Prison. The themes name for Flesh Prison is named "Chaos" and has a bunch of random fast and unorganized notes. Flesh Prison mostly has inaccurate attacks, I.e. The blue bullet hell, the Orbital Strikes which can easily be dodges, the slow moving Black hole. Combined with the eyes and Maurice its all very Chaotic, like the song and its name itself. Minos Prime on the other hand, has hard hitting organized attacks, even being able to combo them to destroy you. His Theme is named "Order" and its not a bunch of notes thrown together. These ordered attacks, while probably being able to destroy Flesh Prison, have much less of a chance of beating Flesh Prison. Since its attacks are meant to overwhelm you and to constantly damage you. So Minos Prime got overwhelmed while fighting Flesh Prison with his low stamina (shown to you by his stamina system, and him taking pauses between attacks and combos) and was defeated by it. V1 however, isn't specialized in anything. V1 can adapt to its enemies. Its agility could easily dodge the constant attacks of Flesh Prison and its Strength could easily parry the strong attacks of Minos Prime, or even dodge his attacks with its dash. This is why I love Ultrakill, everything compliments each other and everything tells its own story.
iirc he was shoved in the flesh prison before he went Prime the whole Prime part happened from his internalised anger and determination to salvage or at the very least avenge his people, all that amplified by having to watch everything he worked so hard for be destroyed by his very own corpse for centuries, if not millenia (presumably) Prime souls are said to be powerful enough to threaten the heavens themselves just by existing, so from this we can say the angels sealed minos' soul in the flesh prison after constructing it with a bunch of randomly slapped together shit in order to make it as impervious as could be; they clearly knew minos fit the bill to go Prime
the song is lovely BUT a part of me finds without his attacks it hits ever so slightly less, hearing his determination behind every JUDGMENT just brings it to another level
everything about him made me cry, from the lore, to the lust motif, to my 121 attempts Edit: i actually didn't do the prime sanctum before making this comment and only based it on what other people told me, but now at the time of editing, and right before going to bed, i did it with 11 attempts; 8 on minos, and 3 on flesh prison -in violent difficulty am i awesome and cool now
You know what makes me a bit sad for Minos? Even if he was able to beat V1 for good, and enacted his vengeance against Gabriel, there wouldn’t be anything left of his people anyway. The complete destruction of his city followed by V1’s entrance and Gabriel’s later words means his people were most likely completely wiped out. He would be doomed to sit among the rubble of his old kingdom and gaze upon the destruction his own corpse and V1 caused.

Minos as a boss fight is so well done, very few fights can elicit the same chills from an opening monologue right into the boss theme blasting in but every time I hear "And thy punishment....Is DEATH." the fight or flight immediately kicks in and I find myself dashing like a maniac and blasting Minos with the whole damn arsenal in seconds. He has a certain reverence about him that none of the other bosses have aside from maybe Sisyphus but he doesn't invoke that same feeling. Minos lives up to his former title and you feel like you're standing before the true Judge of Hell instead of an Archangel with a superiority complex. Minos commands your full attention the second he delivers his judgment, and offers a swift punishment should you not. It helps knowing his lore too, knowing this is one angry, vengeful man who just tried to do some good in a cruel world and was unjustly executed for it, believing that eternal damnation wasn't deserved for simply catering to a basic human instinct and being struck down by God's right hand man for it. He's ready to rend Heaven apart with his bare hands and right now he's directing all that fury towards you. Every attack measured and swift, but a distinct vitriol behind them all. minos' alive form wore a crown of thorns around his eyes because 'justice is blind' so it could be the same reason his prime soul is blind too, he still is 'justice' in the lust layer
Minos was a noble ruler, and only wanted to have his people live in prosperity. It's likely that he didn't care much for how famous he was, only the wellbeing of his people. As such, he manifests a faceless head, but also a beating, bright red heart. Not caring for vanity, only wearing a crown for garments as he was a leader above all else. Because Gabriel views you as an object, he was cool to let your actions slide as long as you didn't bother him any more. That's why he tells you to turn back instead of just straight up trying to kill you.
Id see that as a fun fact.
My man is just too polite to refer to V1 as an object, lol, it wouldn't suit him at all. Well, you may be right

He never hid anything from his subjects. His visible heart signifies that he put his heart out on display for all to see. it's so cool
i love how "thy punishment... is death." sounds more threatening than the entirety of Gabriel's dialogue

Minos sounds, looks, and feels like a man of fair judgement.
Sounds; the way he talks to you with such a calm yet threatening voice even during battle makes him sound like a man who believes in intentions of actions rather than results. He truly is grateful you freed him but it was most likely for your own selfish intent
Looks; He wasn't remembered for his face but rather his actions and figurative big heart, this the hole for a face and see through body.

But since he says it to you in Heresy, it wouldn't make sense for the cause to be V1. My best guess is since V1 doesn't have to slow down to refuel (since it fuels via contact with blood while all other machines have an entire process they have to do to refuel) and is going pretty damn fast, that V1 is just traversing Hell faster than most other Machines.

not to mention that his strongman build is not aesthetically pleasing at all, but practical af for many reasons, which differentiates him from minos even more, who is obviously more civilized and still needs to uphold that image of a king and a ruler
even after saying all this i personally like minos design more but in terms of representing their characters both are thought out pretty well
@@7enima682 Sisyphus' lack of a head also symbolizes how Gabriel decapitated him.
Where it's completely absent from Gabriel, who takes joy in trying to kill V-1.
to be fair V1 IS powered by blood so technically he is a living being.
For I have failed to bring you salvation from this cold, dark world...”
As Minos's death cries echoed and his body shattered, V1 stood, gun in hand.

This is why I love Ultrakill, everything compliments each other and everything tells its own story.
iirc he was shoved in the flesh prison before he went Prime
the whole Prime part happened from his internalised anger and determination to salvage or at the very least avenge his people, all that amplified by having to watch everything he worked so hard for be destroyed by his very own corpse for centuries, if not millenia (presumably)
Prime souls are said to be powerful enough to threaten the heavens themselves just by existing, so from this we can say the angels sealed minos' soul in the flesh prison after constructing it with a bunch of randomly slapped together shit in order to make it as impervious as could be; they clearly knew minos fit the bill to go Prime

6:54 Has anyone else noticed how _sad_ this part sounds? The sheer melancholy of it made me tear up a bit.
The theme of Minos raging against what he knows is inevitable
every time i listen to it , *IT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS*

You know what makes me a bit sad for Minos? Even if he was able to beat V1 for good, and enacted his vengeance against Gabriel, there wouldn’t be anything left of his people anyway. The complete destruction of his city followed by V1’s entrance and Gabriel’s later words means his people were most likely completely wiped out. He would be doomed to sit among the rubble of his old kingdom and gaze upon the destruction his own corpse and V1 caused.

I have literally never heard a song go so hard. Truly masterful.
Primes theme invokes raw emotion it’s fear, hate, sadness all combined into one single boss fight
legit i thought this was some kind of stands
minos prime does kinda have a stand like ability tho
So angry he became his own stand.
Stand name: Minos Prime
Stand master: King Minos
Stats
Power: A (Incredible power)
Speed: A (Almost teleportation)
Precision: B (Can reliably hit from any distance, homing projectiles)
Standing: A (Doesn’t need a body to survive, high HP)
Range: D (Literally can’t separate itself from its stand master, projectiles tho)
Potential: E (Prime Soul)
Reference: King Minos from Greek mithology
Ability: As a Prime Soul, Minos Prime doesn’t need a Husk to manifest its soul, and therefore itself
Stand Type: Bound Stand
Let me know if you want me to make stand stat screens for any other Ultrakill Character :)

"And thy punishment... Is DEATH!"

"Minos Prime often says "Die!". This is a subtle nod to the fact that he will kill you. This reference is best observed on Violent Difficulty."
The build-up at the start of chaos as well as the grace period where flesh prison just spins is built into the game as an initial "wtf" reaction period
Then it summons minions while the combat theme starts and things get truly silly

The entire build-up at 6:50 then the release into those solemn notes is just heartbreaking
I just REALLY like this character and his fight.

Even after all this time his "free at last" speech goes hard as fuck
when you think about it, minos is the only actual good guy in ultrakill. everyone else is corrupt or serial killers.
The thumbnail art is so good, shoutouts to JD Greed
Do you think that hole in his face is because Gabriel skewered his head with his spear or something
I think it's because eyes are the window to the soul but he is the soul so he needs no eyes
minos' alive form wore a crown of thorns around his eyes because 'justice is blind' so it could be the same reason his prime soul is blind too, he still is 'justice' in the lust layer
His snakes are from Dante's Inferno where he judges the souls of hell and where they will go using the snakes
Minos is so fucking cool
hes also transparent because he was truthful to his word and stuff like that i dunno.
Consider that between him and Sisyphus, Minos was the *peaceful* one. I'm honestly terrified for P-2
*Realiztion of pain dawning* OH...
I would like to imagine Sisyphus being gold, rather than bluish-tranaparent. Blind, rather than faceless and have bloodstained arms

if there was an option to team up with the prime king because he mentions Gabriel and after that saying something about reckoning I would 100% pick that option and after the end of heaven (I guess) then king Minos boss fight
"Oh Gabriel, now dawns thy reckoning." He's angry at Gabriel for striking him down and imprisoning him, so ye, would've been cool.
its possible if u didn't p rank lust layer however its a part of the requirement so sadly its not possible

I generally like Doom Eternal's regular arena combat a bit more than Ultrakill, but I must say... Ultrakill's boss fights make Doom's look like complete jokes.
as much of a masterpiece the doom franchise is, the bossfights were always dogshit
@@MysteryKar i mean, I guess doom is in a weird position franchise wise because like, it's older, yes, but it's also, like, not. anyone could forgive the original spider mastermind or the first cyberdemon simply because doom was quite literally one of the first person shooters, like, ever. Modern Doom is a bit different but I don't know if I would call the bossfights dogshit. Doom 3 bosses sucked, yeah, 2016 was... whatever. Eternal actually had bosses I enjoyed quite a bit, but the DLC got a bit silly with it and those weren't good
