Intro may be desynced from the official game audio, but overlapping the boisterous first note with *"NOW"* gives this edit a very impactful nuance, and I'm quite fond of it
Its an inverse of the hero's journey: Gabriel is going on path that will cost him his growth and ultimately make him irrelevant and dead. Its like poetry, it rhymes.

@@kakirin he probably wouldnt die, just lose his holy light, aka basically all of his power, but if p-3 comes along after gabriel dies (if losing holy light is a death sentence) then it would probably be him, after the stunt with murdering the entire council, his husk would be broken, and his sheer urge to kill v1 would easily be enough for him to become a prime soul too (assuming angels can be sent to hell of course)
@@Vertix07911 holy light is what keeps gabe alive, the council said he will remain as a husk meaning he will most likely die and end up a husk like the corpse of king minos if the holy light is gone. Plus it would make sense to make it that way so if gabriel or any other arch angel runs wild then they can easily kill it within seconds.

I really love how Gabriel starts to enjoy the fight as the battle continues. Like some of his lines like ''come get some blood'' or ''Show me what you were made for'' and his laughter shows that he relishes the challenge and even has fun shit talking V1 while duking it out. Can't wait to have our final fight with him as true rivals.

I love how the fight starts off with Gabriel enraged. You meet him in Heresy, taking silent introspection on what V1 has done in the previous acts. Going into the fight, he's filled with rage, being faced yet again with the very being he failed to beat in Act 1. As he sustains more injury, though, his anger quickly turns to clarity. He realizes that this fight is no longer for Heaven or Hell, but it's now a battle simply between him and you. Things become clear, he begins to take the fight more personally, and he becomes much faster and more accurate. His mind is cleared, and the room turns to a heavenly chapel reflecting Gabriel's being more than hell. It's such a nice little touch that I feel like got overlooked a lot in this fight. You make a great fucking game, Hakita. Ok I'm editing this because I only just realized something, you also meet Gabriel in Heresy, perfectly fitting of his actions following the fight. You defeat Gabriel again in his purest and most personal state, and having beaten him then, rather than push through on his fate, now that it's lost, the barbarity of hell seeps into him and drives him to become a heretic.
I felt so intimidated by Gabriel act 2 the first time I fought him. The voice crack in "IS THIS WHAT I LOST TO?!?!" is what sealed this as my favorite boss fight. His voice is no longer this over the top "god's light" caricature, he is just this crazed animal who has lost everything and does not care to put up an air of nobility anymore. All of this is to say, this is an amazing audio recreation of this fight that gives the same emotional feeling. Very good. Only complaint is the desync but everyone else has said that already. Late Edit: I was thinking about it and part of what makes the fact that Gabriel has lost everything so powerful is that at this point in the game you have crescendoed. This fight is two beings, one with nothing left to lose and one unable to. It is effectively, the point in which both beings are at a climax. For both v1 and Gabriel it's only downhill from here

3:34 this is really where the track becomes a story of tragedy to me. Gabriel's rage is over throwing his will to be anything but the filth beneath him. His name meant so much more before his encounters with V1, but now he's the same as the demons stopping at nothing to tear apart this machine. The slightly dissonant riffs of the guitar in this section and the ones going crazy in the back show this for me and I'm so fucking hype. Props to Hakita.
I've heard it said before the dissonant riffs could represent desperation as well. Like striking against an immovable boulder, putting your all into every swing only to clang off harmlessly.

What's great about this. V2 was never the rival. V2 was merely the competition. The emotion in the voice lines shows that Gabriel is not only your rival, but your antithesis. He is the anti you. A punishing force created by God to destroy anything that would stand in the way of the kingdom of heaven. In essence Gabriel's very existence is to destroy you (the player) and yet he can't, he can only sit there and watch in horror as you do the very things he was created to stop. When he screams out "Is this what I lost to?" He's not asking you. He's asking god, his creator. But defeating him you denied him his very reason for existence. He hates you. His hatred will consume him. Until he becomes a husk, an automaton with a single directive. Destroy the machine. And he will burn all of heaven and hell to complete his mission. His very reason for existence.

@@paleknight4099 I'd say that slaughtering your leaders is a pretty great sin, plus it's never specified that archangels in ultrakill have pure souls. Personally I think hakita is going to go all in with the fallen angel themes until gabriel becomes a real fallen angel, if not the most notable fallen angel of all time.
I fought this boss for the first time today and i don't think it's physically possible to describe how visually impressive that was. Compared to the first fight where gianni's acting was amazing but almost comic in a way, here, with every scream from Gabriel i legit felt threatened, his first fight was already amazing and pretty difficult on it's own right but they gave him justice on act 2. He has insane damage output, being able to 3 tap you, and for his large and super fast combos, that's insane, he gets high mobility and teleports all over the place to keep you paying attention, gets projectiles so he can deal with you if you try to kite him from the distance, and on his 2nd phase all of those qualities aforementioned are enhanced, with even more speed and extra teleports on his combos to mix you even harder. The only downside is that he's still susceptible to a well timed railcoin on his cutscene and his low HP pool make it so the fight goes by really fast, but his ability to absolutely delete you if you aren't careful enough makes him a threat to be reckoned with. Currently my favorite boss in the game, amazing presentation backed with a solid and great boss fight.
@@corrat4866 I find it funny you say that because despite V2 literally being your clone, i always saw Gabriel as a better rival for V1, i guess that was the objective hakita had in mind, both from a character point of view and from a gameplay perspective, and as his dialogue implies he's probably gonna be back on act 3, really excited to see what he'll bring to the table next time.

@@EyeOfJanuary Spot on, V2 is an exact copy of the player while Gabriel works on a similar way but with his own tools, making him an entirely different opponent, i hope that just like Vergil, Gabriel keeps getting increasingly more difficult on his re-fights.
This phrase and soundtrack made me a perfect immersion into this battle. In second phase Gabriel no longer cares for reason or the point of this battle and so do i. I've really caught up the drive, adrenaline and pleasure from the battle just as Gabriel and oh boy it felt godly

Gianni is such a good fucking actor. The way he displays his character's emotions, the DREAD, the ANGER, just EVERYTHING. This boss had the best intro i geniuenly saw in years and ultrakill will always be my favourite game.
After learning more about the lore of the Lust and Greed layers and gaining a lot of respect for Minos, I developed a lot of hatred for Gabriel So all of the buildup, from his mentions in 5-2 and his hologram in 5-3 to his voice lines in 6-1 hyped me up for when the fight finally happened, and oh man did it deliver When I first entered the level and started hearing the monologue, my mind could only focus on wanting to kill Gabriel, and when I heard his opening voice lines and the beginning of his theme, I just felt bloodlust, which increased with each taunt and even more when the lights turned on... but, it ended when I saw the ending to Act II Then, my hatred for Gabriel faded away. To be replaced by respect

Something to note is the lack breakcore type stuff in this song, pretty much a staple of ultrakill is its purposely sorta all of the place sound adding to the frantic nature of fights but here its just angry guitar and drums, the song itself is perfect haterd, its gabriels hate and anger focused into music with heavenly undertones underneath with the choir voices, piano and violin. Or maybe the song just kicks ass and I'm thinking too hard
I love this fight so much because it manages to tell an entire story with just the inflection in Gabriel's voice and Gabriel no longer being enraged halfway through. From Gabriel being pissed off at V1 and trying to enforce God's will to now reveling in bloodlust and his new freedom
You play as a machine in the far future, a robot made for war, created to use blood as fuel. The machine went rougue and it, along with its many peers (other war machines that werent powered by blood) made humanity go extinct, along with all life on earth. Essentially, as the title of this song implies, they broke the will of God. Ever hungering for blood in order to work, the machine finds the entrance of hell, wich is full to the brim with souls. They and their kind proceed to rip trough the rings of hell, purging the souls of sinners. Along its travels, the machine meets Gabriel, the archangel, and fights aggainst him. After his first defeat, Gabriel realizes that if he dosent give his all, God is never coming back. This song plays in the rematch, level 5-2 "Apostate of Hate" the final showdown between Heaven and machine on the ring of wrath. If gabriel loses, the ring will perish.

I just know I'm gonna get my ass handed to me when I reach this boss, even though I'm playing on Lenient. I'm fucking horrible at this game. But y'know what? I don't care. Because an absolute fucking BANGER will be playing the whole time.
I reccomend trying to just stay alive for a long time by dodging and parrying without focusing on attacks. Then once you are confident enough, try to mix it up with some starting coin combos in the start of the fight, and shotgun parry spam in the middle.
try playing on standart with autoaim (turn it on in assists (yes, developers added it in the game)). I completed the game on the standart difficulty on my first playthrough with 10% autoaim, right now I am trying to get S or P ranks everywhere without autoaim. I am (or already was?) shit at shooters, but I defenetly became better after playing ULTRAKILL also, never shame yourself for playing on easier difficulties. Everyone should be able to enjoy games at their own pace. Games are created for everyone
In the first fight I was enraged. I reached the point of screaming in hatred at my monitor. I got so mad I fell out of my chair. But the second fight, I felt only pity. I realized he was suffering immensely, to carry out the orders of someone who doesn't care about him. He is in agony, miserable for no good reason. He hit the ground, and then *He realized it, too*
Bro I just fought him yesterday and I have to say when phase two starts it becomes SO MUCH FUN. Gabriel goes from angry to "HAHAHAHA, YES, THIS IS A GOOD FIGHT." I just wish there was a checkpoint after that so you can keep going back to phase 2. And that there was an option to just start in the room he's in.

@@kakirin he probably wouldnt die, just lose his holy light, aka basically all of his power, but if p-3 comes along after gabriel dies (if losing holy light is a death sentence) then it would probably be him, after the stunt with murdering the entire council, his husk would be broken, and his sheer urge to kill v1 would easily be enough for him to become a prime soul too (assuming angels can be sent to hell of course)

Plus it would make sense to make it that way so if gabriel or any other arch angel runs wild then they can easily kill it within seconds.

I love how the fight starts off with Gabriel enraged. You meet him in Heresy, taking silent introspection on what V1 has done in the previous acts. Going into the fight, he's filled with rage, being faced yet again with the very being he failed to beat in Act 1. As he sustains more injury, though, his anger quickly turns to clarity. He realizes that this fight is no longer for Heaven or Hell, but it's now a battle simply between him and you. Things become clear, he begins to take the fight more personally, and he becomes much faster and more accurate. His mind is cleared, and the room turns to a heavenly chapel reflecting Gabriel's being more than hell. It's such a nice little touch that I feel like got overlooked a lot in this fight.
You make a great fucking game, Hakita.
Ok I'm editing this because I only just realized something, you also meet Gabriel in Heresy, perfectly fitting of his actions following the fight. You defeat Gabriel again in his purest and most personal state, and having beaten him then, rather than push through on his fate, now that it's lost, the barbarity of hell seeps into him and drives him to become a heretic.
i am thankful you appreciate the nature of why gabriel lost to v1 so easily the first time around.

I felt so intimidated by Gabriel act 2 the first time I fought him. The voice crack in "IS THIS WHAT I LOST TO?!?!" is what sealed this as my favorite boss fight. His voice is no longer this over the top "god's light" caricature, he is just this crazed animal who has lost everything and does not care to put up an air of nobility anymore. All of this is to say, this is an amazing audio recreation of this fight that gives the same emotional feeling. Very good. Only complaint is the desync but everyone else has said that already.
Late Edit: I was thinking about it and part of what makes the fact that Gabriel has lost everything so powerful is that at this point in the game you have crescendoed. This fight is two beings, one with nothing left to lose and one unable to. It is effectively, the point in which both beings are at a climax. For both v1 and Gabriel it's only downhill from here

3:34 this is really where the track becomes a story of tragedy to me. Gabriel's rage is over throwing his will to be anything but the filth beneath him. His name meant so much more before his encounters with V1, but now he's the same as the demons stopping at nothing to tear apart this machine. The slightly dissonant riffs of the guitar in this section and the ones going crazy in the back show this for me and I'm so fucking hype. Props to Hakita.

The emotion in the voice lines shows that Gabriel is not only your rival, but your antithesis. He is the anti you. A punishing force created by God to destroy anything that would stand in the way of the kingdom of heaven. In essence Gabriel's very existence is to destroy you (the player) and yet he can't, he can only sit there and watch in horror as you do the very things he was created to stop. When he screams out "Is this what I lost to?" He's not asking you. He's asking god, his creator. But defeating him you denied him his very reason for existence. He hates you.
His hatred will consume him. Until he becomes a husk, an automaton with a single directive. Destroy the machine. And he will burn all of heaven and hell to complete his mission. His very reason for existence.
An archangel can never stray from its course, for they were created with no soul to sin. In that regard, they are pretty much machines.

I fought this boss for the first time today and i don't think it's physically possible to describe how visually impressive that was.
Compared to the first fight where gianni's acting was amazing but almost comic in a way, here, with every scream from Gabriel i legit felt threatened, his first fight was already amazing and pretty difficult on it's own right but they gave him justice on act 2.
He has insane damage output, being able to 3 tap you, and for his large and super fast combos, that's insane, he gets high mobility and teleports all over the place to keep you paying attention, gets projectiles so he can deal with you if you try to kite him from the distance, and on his 2nd phase all of those qualities aforementioned are enhanced, with even more speed and extra teleports on his combos to mix you even harder. The only downside is that he's still susceptible to a well timed railcoin on his cutscene and his low HP pool make it so the fight goes by really fast, but his ability to absolutely delete you if you aren't careful enough makes him a threat to be reckoned with. Currently my favorite boss in the game, amazing presentation backed with a solid and great boss fight.
I see it as a mirror of the player, similar to V2, he hits hard, goes fast, but is extremely vulnerable when you get down to it.
@@corrat4866 I find it funny you say that because despite V2 literally being your clone, i always saw Gabriel as a better rival for V1, i guess that was the objective hakita had in mind, both from a character point of view and from a gameplay perspective, and as his dialogue implies he's probably gonna be back on act 3, really excited to see what he'll bring to the table next time.

After learning more about the lore of the Lust and Greed layers and gaining a lot of respect for Minos, I developed a lot of hatred for Gabriel
So all of the buildup, from his mentions in 5-2 and his hologram in 5-3 to his voice lines in 6-1 hyped me up for when the fight finally happened, and oh man did it deliver
When I first entered the level and started hearing the monologue, my mind could only focus on wanting to kill Gabriel, and when I heard his opening voice lines and the beginning of his theme, I just felt bloodlust, which increased with each taunt and even more when the lights turned on... but, it ended when I saw the ending to Act II
Then, my hatred for Gabriel faded away. To be replaced by respect

Something to note is the lack breakcore type stuff in this song, pretty much a staple of ultrakill is its purposely sorta all of the place sound adding to the frantic nature of fights but here its just angry guitar and drums, the song itself is perfect haterd, its gabriels hate and anger focused into music with heavenly undertones underneath with the choir voices, piano and violin.
Or maybe the song just kicks ass and I'm thinking too hard

I love this fight so much because it manages to tell an entire story with just the inflection in Gabriel's voice and Gabriel no longer being enraged halfway through. From Gabriel being pissed off at V1 and trying to enforce God's will to now reveling in bloodlust and his new freedom

I don't know anything about ultrakill but the voicelines and the soundtrack fucking slaps, good god.
You play as a machine in the far future, a robot made for war, created to use blood as fuel. The machine went rougue and it, along with its many peers (other war machines that werent powered by blood) made humanity go extinct, along with all life on earth. Essentially, as the title of this song implies, they broke the will of God.
Ever hungering for blood in order to work, the machine finds the entrance of hell, wich is full to the brim with souls. They and their kind proceed to rip trough the rings of hell, purging the souls of sinners. Along its travels, the machine meets Gabriel, the archangel, and fights aggainst him. After his first defeat, Gabriel realizes that if he dosent give his all, God is never coming back.
This song plays in the rematch, level 5-2 "Apostate of Hate" the final showdown between Heaven and machine on the ring of wrath. If gabriel loses, the ring will perish.

I just know I'm gonna get my ass handed to me when I reach this boss, even though I'm playing on Lenient. I'm fucking horrible at this game. But y'know what? I don't care. Because an absolute fucking BANGER will be playing the whole time.
I reccomend trying to just stay alive for a long time by dodging and parrying without focusing on attacks. Then once you are confident enough, try to mix it up with some starting coin combos in the start of the fight, and shotgun parry spam in the middle.

try playing on standart with autoaim (turn it on in assists (yes, developers added it in the game)). I completed the game on the standart difficulty on my first playthrough with 10% autoaim, right now I am trying to get S or P ranks everywhere without autoaim. I am (or already was?) shit at shooters, but I defenetly became better after playing ULTRAKILL
also, never shame yourself for playing on easier difficulties. Everyone should be able to enjoy games at their own pace. Games are created for everyone
In the first fight I was enraged. I reached the point of screaming in hatred at my monitor. I got so mad I fell out of my chair. But the second fight, I felt only pity. Bro I just fought him yesterday and I have to say when phase two starts it becomes SO MUCH FUN.
Gabriel goes from angry to "HAHAHAHA, YES, THIS IS A GOOD FIGHT."
I just wish there was a checkpoint after that so you can keep going back to phase 2.
And that there was an option to just start in the room he's in.
