1. Use the choke. 2. Points use a resistor wire to cut the voltage while running. "I" terminal on the starter sends 12 volts to the coil when cranking but uses the resistor wire for reducing voltage while running. HEI needs the straight 12 volts. You got it. 3. I learned all of this when I rebuilt one of these when I was in 4-H. Still have the 65 GMC 920. 4. I subscribed.
My dad bought a brand new 1965 GMC it had a 230 in it. I think 1966 was the first year for the 250 so that engine may not been original engine for your 64. That is a good video thank you for sharing it.
mmm im not sure but i think the 250 is earlier than 66, they first started offering the 292 in c10s in 1966 though, but the lifer covers are 2" taller and motor mounts are staggered in the 292
your best teacher for any subject is trial and error without trying or making mistakes but..your priority for learning is your safety...your dealing electrical and raw gasoline and blood pathogens such as oil and engine cleaning chemicals hand and face protection as well, overall your doing a bang up job...kudos to you sir.
The wire you where using in the main harness is a resistance wire for the points system. It is 9.3 volts after you release the ignition to the running position. That amount of voltage isn't adequate to make hei run.
I’m glad u went with the 250 /6 It’s a good motor an if u put any hp to it ; it will take it ,an if a build is n the future. It should take a v8 Np. Good choice. Keep em coming
Audio sounds good bud Those old 250's are some good runners And can get ya a turbo manifold setup and all and inject that Ole girl and she'll be awesome in the Ole daily
hey Brazilian here, i think this engine is the same used in our Chevy Opala, ( our ''compact'' Impala ) our version of the European Opel Rekord C, with American Engine, with i think is this one! thank you for uploading this video!
I’ve been following you on IG. Good stuff. I just slowed down to try to catch up on some if your YT. I’ve mostly been on TT up until about 6 mo ago. So I’m growing YT and IG slowly. Ty for tips.
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop I try to do all of my own work and I have fabricated a lot over the years, but I had a stroke a couple of years ago and I am just now getting back to my old self!
watching this is helping me out, im working on a chevy 250 in a firebird.. yes some came with the inline 6 hahah, but great vid man thanks. right now im on the no spark issue, i got an hei kit but would love to see this run on points first. gotta check compression like you did, etc etc.
The engine block casting number is not a serial number. But does denote year and model of engine. That is a 250. Consider upgrading the points ignition to a gm hei.

The 1960-66 factory assembly manual corroborate that 1966 was the debut of the 250 in a C10 model.
the sound of a straight six makes baby Jesus cry
They do have a unique sound lol
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop loves the videos, my 1st truck was a 57 Chevy had a 235, drove it about a year swapped it for a 283

If you put the gearbox in neutral the starter don't need to work that hard ;)

21:30 you won't get compression worth squat unless the throttle is open so it can take in the air to compress.

If u want a goos setup get the 250 going and get u a GM. ND3500 5 speed overdrive transmission. Will be grear fun to drive
Heck yeah. We are doing a t5 in my buddies 66 c10 this winter. Also has a 250
A 230 is a stroked 194 and a 250 is ac194 bored and stroked. The 194 and 230 have the same bore. The 230 and the 250 have the same stroke
Thanks. Good information 👊🏻
