You know..... y’all might not think this.... but Derek, my friend, you’re setting the path to your kids and generations to come. When everything is electric, in who knows how many short years, your kids will look back at these videos and realize what simplistic really is. All mechanical, and just a bit of smarts, can get you very far in life. I take these videos to heart as they are a way of life in early years, that built America, and the world. With electric at the point it is now is not practical as a replacement for fossil fuel vehicles. Electric is very efficient for mass transit with an external power source, but batteries present a major challenge and the electric grid is already at capacity and can’t handle the demand total electric would create and much of the electric is created with fossil canceling out the supposed benefits of electric along with the new environmental hazards the batteries present.
I want to see the bores and the ring gaps myself. Numbers are kinda irrelevant we know it's barely gonna twitch the gauge just from seeing how fast she turns over. Does show just how skookum these old american V8s truly are, though. A modern engine that wore out just plumb ain't gonna run anymore. This SBC more or less still got a guy home.

Those old Cenex probe pickups were well used. When I used to work at one in the 90s, they had to pull loaded anhydrous tanks during fertilizer season, and bounce all over the fields to get samples. Usually nothing left of them after 10 years...
A business band radio, to be exact. The frequency it is programmed to, or more likely has crystals for, is probably being used by someone else, or is not even used anymore. I really like old radios and such.

We had those exact radios in our pickups and one at the house back in the day. Only way to communicate over a distance on the farm. I remember my mom in there “6-0-6 to 6-0-5, dinners ready,”

Fixed it up best we could , furnace, freezer, bathroom all working eventually. Six cheap tyres, fitted it out from thrift shops. Spent just over a year travelling the roads of America, mostly old gravel backroads . Spent Fourth of July in Stanley North Dakota actually, really great friendly people. We had read in England about the Whirla Whip Ice cream there, so drove over for one, honest !. Had one of the best times of our lives. The Rockies, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Mesa Arizona. Almost full length Highway 101 , many side trips as folks invited us to join them. San Francisco, Yuma, . Two months with the snowbirds, day trips just into Mexico as guests of the snowbirds who looked after us so well. Xmas on Ocatillo Flats, I think it was. Houston Space Centre. Slowly across towards the East, but our Visas were running out so we headed North along the Natchez trace, innocents !. Got caught in some kind of a storm near Nashville, everyone else pulled of the camping ground about 2 am, no one old us !. It was rough and scary for a while there, now part of our adventure. Eventually back into Canada and the flight home. Rich folks ?, no way, farm workers kids and just many ordinary jobs until we retired. Camped free most of the time, or cheap, others showed us where and how. So many people, so many places, so many great memories, so much kindness. Those roads are there, just take them, doesn't have to be a million dollar travelling castle. We paid 6000 dollars for the Winnebago, a few thousand as we went along fixing things that broke, sold it in Canada for 3,000. Biggest expense, not having any income at all. Spent a good slice of our life savings, best money ever spent we still think. Go for it, drive the roads, see more of your fantastic country, meet the people. My X Father in law and I got trapped way out of town one early morning with a busted fuel pump. After trying just about everything I got the idea of pressurizing the gas tank with my portable 12 volt air compressor. So we wadded up a garbage bag around the air line and forced it into the filler tube for the gas tank of the truck. I let the compressor run until I heard the gas tank expand and cranked over the truck engine. Imagine my surprize when the truck started right up and ran like a champ! Got us the 18 miles to home with no problem!😊

Spent one summer in the San Fernando Valley, Van Nuys to be exact with 90°+ temps every day rebuilding the 350. Drove it for 60k miles and blew it up coming home from bowling down the hill over Mulholland Dr on the 405 near Burbank boulevard, 2 miles from home. Fun days.

Way back in 1989, I bought an R titled 1987 Chevy square body short bed. It had 4 speed manual with a 305. People questioned me for buying an R titled truck. I had it 10 years with minimal issues. Loved that truck.

Spent one summer in the San Fernando Valley, Van Nuys to be exact with 90°+ temps every day rebuilding the 350. Drove it for 60k miles and blew it up coming home from bowling down the hill over Mulholland Dr on the 405 near Burbank boulevard, 2 miles from home. Fun days.

Way back in 1989, I bought an R titled 1987 Chevy square body short bed. It had 4 speed manual with a 305. People questioned me for buying an R titled truck. I had it 10 years with minimal issues. Loved that truck.
