Believe me plenty people were furious at this entry since they 1) thought it was satanic and/or 2) didn't like the fact that Bambie is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns 😄 Even within Ireland (not surprising due to Catholicism). For example there was SO much hate in the comment section under this RUclips video before they cleaned it up. Same with the winning performance.

Suprisingly no one has answered your aul leprechaun/ banshee query, so I'll try me best for ya. They are both members of the sídhe (pronounced she), otherwise know as the fairyfolk. There are a heap of them in Irish mythology but we'll just focus on these ones cause I'm not writin' out 70 pages of nothing, despite what ya asked!
Leprechauns are usually cobblers, so little fellas who do shoes. They like to be on their own but they are also cheeky little feckers and play tricks on people. The bucket of gold probaly comes from an old story where some youngfella caught a leprechaun who was up to no good and refused to let him go unless he got a s**te load of gold in return. The leprechaun paid up and they both lived happily every after! Yeay!
Haven't a clue where the rainbow comes into it, but I suppose that's what a thousand years of reimagining a mythology will do. There's a whole lot more to these tricksy little feckers, one is how they could actually be a representation of one of the most important gods in Irish mythology, Lugh, but that's a rabbit-hole I'm not willing to go down right now, so we'll leave it there!
Banshees are a different kettle of fish altogether. The name in Irish is bean sídhe, which is pronounced banshee (who could have ever guessed that eh?! lol) That translates to fairy woman, which sounds nice enough... but no.... She is an incredibly old bent backed woman, with long, scraggily hair that she likes to comb. And you better hope to god the banshee never comes around to your house because she is the hearld of death! She creeps up outside of a house at night and will start wailing and screaming, and lets the family know that one of them has died or is going to die really, really soon. She doesn't kill them herself, she's just there to send a message! lol. But she also does a thing called keening, which was a type of singing/ mourning done at Irish wakes in ye olde times. So in fact the banshee isn't bad, she is wailing, screaming and keening because she feels the pain and sorrow of the family's loss.
But growing up in the Irish countryside I didn't focus on her feelings, all I knew is that her scream will kill someone in my house. I'd hear foxes calling and cats fighting at night and would be half convinced I'd wake up dead in the morning! Oh and if I ever saw a comb on the road, or in the ditch beside the road, I knew never to touch it because the banshee would come after me!

    • @Róisín_of_the_Hawkeye
      @Róisín_of_the_Hawkeye 7 месяцев назад +2

Same! 🙌 The comb thing was bet into us as kids. If you saw one on the ground, you were never to pick it up, or the banshee would come looking for you.
Sure who needed horror films when you were told stories like that as a child?! Between that and never walking through a fairy ring and a whole plethora of other tales, it was enough to scare the bejayzus out of you for life 👻
All good fun though, I loved it. Still do

The entire performance was super thought out and has a storyline that pertains to the song itself. The song is about being undervalued and underappreciated in three aspects, the first being in a romantic relationship (verses), towards oneself and self criticism (bridge), and lastly as a queer person in the world (chorus). Bambie, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is a practicing witch who uses Ireland's historic roots as a pagan country to create the symbolism and esthetic of their image. The performance begins with the ritual where they are conjuring the "demon" which represents the trauma that they've suffered in their life that has controlled them and held them back, continues into them coming to terms and accepting the past, and then finally taking their power back at the end of the performance and defeating the demon once and for all.

Aight, let's give you some information on this! The overall performance is a representation of Irish Wiccan/Pagan culture and there's a lot of elements in this that symbolize such.
First, the symbol on Bambie Thug's head is the symbol of the Triple Goddess. This represents the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone. The Triple Goddess is also seen as the three faces of the Morrigan/Morrighan. Sometimes written as something separate, sometimes the same entity, but the Morrigan is a deity in Irish Mythology that represents wrath, transformation, and battle, as well as the different sides of women. She's a powerful and feared deity which some may think as evil, but she's not evil, she just operates on a different morality like many of the fey beings in the mythology. You mention leprechauns, which are also a type of capricious being, but there's none in this song :D
The other Celtic symbols are all used in Wiccan/Pagan representation, I don't know all of them, but they're mostly benign symbols that can range for health, prosperity, and can be used in Wiccan rituals. Candles are used in Wiccan rituals, feathers, the pentagram is a Wiccan symbol of summoning/protection (NOT demonic, but it was appropriated to become demonic in popular cinema/Christian religion).
Bambie Thug is dressed up in feathers which can be seen as representing the Morrigan and the Morrigan's most known form to transform into, the raven, before transitioning to their new form. The black markings on the side of their face is known as Ogham script, an old Irish manuscript, and it reads "Crown the Witch". You read it from the bottom to the top.
The song itself is a switch between light and dark aspects of a personality that are waging war - the vengeful side angry at what happened in a failed relationship, cursing the relationship/hexing the ex and then summoning a demon to try and compensate for the hurt. Only, it's a demon, it can't really fulfil the empty spot and you can never truly be happy as long as it is hovering around, and the character eventually transforms (shedding the feathers) and changes their attitude, and chooses to embrace themselves and shrug off the demon they created (also can be seen like an inner demon that we all battle with daily, and learning to banish them rather than let them fester). The demon is exorcised at the end with this newfound strength.
At the end of the performance, they shout out "Love will always triumph hate/Love will triumph over hate." There's apparently some debate over the exact wording, but this is the general message.
Honestly this has been one of the most epic performances I've ever seen in Eurovision. Super glad to see this :D
Oh, right, you wanted spelling errors. hre is spelin eror

I’m hoping you’ll react to Baby Lasagna, Joost Klein and Nemo too. Baby Lasagna was my winner 🐱

If you’re interested in the production side, there are videos on here of the behind the scenes. The cues are beat synced and a lot of the cameras are now robotic to get the precision they need.
I’ve been to Eurovision in person a few times. It’s amazing live, but in a different way. When I go, I tend to go to the Jury Final the night before so I can enjoy the televised show as well (then, when I get home, I’ll watch the BBC broadcast to get Graham Norton’s commentary).

Gotta love Graham Norton's commentary. I prefer to tune into him than the televised final in Ireland. The late Terry Wogan's shoes were big shoes to fill, and fill them Graham certainly did.
We loved tuning into Terry's commentary when I was a kid. And I will tune into Graham's commentary as long he stays at it.
They both have/had a cheeky way of throwing deep shade without malice that most just can't away with.
All in good fun and always hilarious!

The mascot for Lucky Charms is Lucky the Leprechaun, but he has also been known by other names:
L.C. Leprechaun: His formal name, Sir Charms: A name he was called in the early 1960s when he first appeared in commercials-
Waldo the Wizard: A forgetful wizard who briefly replaced Lucky in New England in 1975

It’s Irish paganism symbology. It’s basically just a song about a man who said he’s one thing is the exact opposite then getting rid of said man. Paganism is a big part of Irish culture, we forget Halloween comes from Ireland where it was known under the name Samhain which is basically the Irish Day of the dead with the veil is thinnest between the unseen and seen world
Let realize Bambi was pure performance art incredible

Guys I don't know what are the criteria for the song to be chosen to the reaction but you really should react to this year's last place, that is Norway's song: Gate - Ulveham, the most undeserved last place in the history of anything ever.
Maybe not this week but sometime in the future, maybe "Eurovision last places week" or something like that?
No clue what happened and why this end dead last, this was like the song picked from ordinary world of music - the song of almost-black metal with folk undertones and squeezed into this circus of Eurovision.
On the biggest website of community rating music, Ulveham was rated by far with the best score out of all song of Eurovision 2024, and it end up dead last in the actual final. That says something.
Love the great work guys 🖤

Bambie Thug identifies as gender fluid, so they go by the pronouns 'They/Them'.
When I first heard this song at the Irish national finals, I honestly just didn't understand what on earth was going on. It was amateurish witchy crap.
Then the semi finals at Eurovision happened! Bambie shot up from my 39th place all the way up to my 3rd (behind Italy & Austria).
Bambie summons the demon, seduces him, then Bambie destroys him!
As for other industrial/metal/alternative type of songs at Eurovision, please do react to 'Hatrid Mun Sigra' by Hatari. That had a similar effect that Bambie did this year. It shocked people.

Just wanted to say that you wrote “she” toward the end. I keep messing it up but really try to get used to it. Anyway, do they use they/them pronouns? Asking because I saw a video where the hosts talked about the non-binary participants, and they used they/them for Nemo but she/her for Bambi which confused me a bit. But then I learned that some non-binary people prefer to keep their “original” pronouns which makes sense, I guess, since there are also people who prefer they/them without identifying as non-binary. Btw I like the term “gender fluid”, like you said, way better. Binary/non-binary is just too binary 😄

    • @AmaanStorm
      @AmaanStorm 7 месяцев назад +1

@@ZeniaLarsen oops, thank you for pointing that out! I find it hard too.
I dont understand the current trend in pronouns in all honesty, even though I describe myself as gender-fluid, im not as militant and still prefer 'he/him' pronouns. I'm just a huge lover of androgyny and love the blurring of the lines when it comes to style and appearance. I do respect other people's preferences though.
Yes Bambie mentioned that they use 'they/them' pronouns as they see themselves as non-binary.
