    I am extremely bowled over by the sheer size and cavenous Elizabeth Line station at Paddington! Whenever myself and my partner travel to London and arrive in Paddington, we always dive to the station to continue our journey. I always love visiting the Elizabeth Line stations because they are gorgeous! You guys have given an amazing tour and guide of this magnificent station as always - sooo jealous that you get to explore it before it opens and I can imagine how you guys get so excited because I would too!
    As always, Chris is a fountain of information, knowledge, tips and explainers which makes me sit in awe at how much he knows and can explain everything almost providing an educational class on everything in the stations, the history, the lines and everything in between! Utterly amazed by him and Alex, you provide great presenting skills with your whitty comments and innuendo's they're a great addition too! Siddy and Laura provide some more glitz and glamour to the show so as a team you are the complete package to these shows and that's why I keep coming back to watch them all and have become even more interested in the tube! Thank you all soooooo much!!

    Re: Leicester Square to Covent Garden, although you don't get any part of a train in two stations at once, passengers observing the back of a train departing one of those two stations can do so at the same time as passengers observing the front of the same train arriving at the other. Other locations where you can see the next station platform down the tunnel are Cannon Street/Monument, Holborn/Chancery Lane, Kennington/Oval, and in the open Hainault/Fairlop.

      They really aught to build an escalator and incline lift from the land in front of the London Transport Museum to Leicester Square Station. And then, close Covent Garden Station, build a perspex platform edge wall on both platforms and convert the statiion into a self--guided tour part of the London Transport Museum.

    I actually quite like "Intercity-sized trains in a Metro environment" as a characterization of the Elizabeth line (and it not being a Tube line). It's a quote by Emily Tibbits of the Crossrail construction team at TCR from Geoff Marshall's 'Elizabeth Line - Tottenham Court Road Open Day' video (ruclips.net/video/lKC-QBxbdj4/видео.html - timecode: 9:30).
    And that is actually also what my question regarding Thameslink Class 700 trains was -sort of- aimed at: by size (width) and length you could, if I'm correct, at least fit 12-car Thameslink trains in there. But I thought, the technical part might be an issue, so thanks for clearing up on that. :D

    • @bfapple
      @bfapple 2 года назад

      The only thing stopping a 700 accessing Crossrail (other than platform edge doors) is the CBTC signalling system which the 700s are not compatible with.
      In theory, Class 345 trains could use Thameslink, if reversing at City Thameslink.

    More quality content guys, thanks! Serious industrial design related question - when they are designing layouts, surfaces etc are cleaning staff consulted for their views? I believe they would of course have incredible insights as to what would be an improvement, bright ideas etc. Cheers and thanks to all the hard working people who keep the trains and stations looking so good.

    When Crossrail showed the station on completion, I commented that I would never get to see the station as I would travel from Reading to Central London. Following a recent visit to Hidden London “Piccadilly” last month I took the Elizabeth Line from Reading to Paddington. I think I will now use a High Speed service to Paddington and then change to Elizabeth Line to get to the nearest interchange. (Elizabeth line will be a high speed cross tube network whilst in the central section.

      Not the Elizabeth line just yet ‘TfL Rail’ until the name changed on the new trains, unless I’m wrong about west of Paddo, the new trains from Shenfield are all TfL Rail into London.

      @davidstone408 2 года назад +1

      @@jacksugden8190 services are promoted as TfL rail, stock of course is Elizabeth line, according to TfL services will continue, but passengers will have to change at Paddington once the Elizabeth Line starts operations in the central section, the initial thoughts are Late 2022 before the line services from Reading will enter the central section, but this might move, as the complex signalling system has to be right, safety first. Did like the roundel stamped on the hand strap mountings.

    The quietness of the trains as they accelerate away.... But I really hope I don't have to ever walk the full length of a platform and back again to use the escalators - 200m platforms with a 2min frequency is multiple trains during that walk!
    Voids under the platform - something else they are doing with those is send any residual heat from the brakes into the exhaust air, not back into the tunnels. Cool!

  • @PJsWorld

    Has anyone noticed that the Tube map fitted on the platform (at 13:06) is already out of date as the northen line extention is not included, as well as the central section of the Elizebath Line! This seems like a odd decision and I wonder why this is the case? Possibily they have been up since 2018, but this would not explain why the Elizabeth line is not displayed in its entirety. Is this the case at other stations on the line?

    Lovely station, look forward to using it one day. Isn't it a very different kettle of fish from the other LT lines however, it is nearest to the Overground all being National Rail stations on the ORR statistics for instance. The LU already manages Highbury & Islington and Moorgate for instance, so that will not be unique, what will be uniusual is that it will be a national rail line that is built in a tube, however in comparison you dont call the Channel Tunnel a tube line do you but by that definition it is?

    12 car Thameslink trains are 242.6 metres long, so the Thameslink Core platforms must be at least as long. 9 car Elizabeth Line trains are about 205 metres long.

    • @sihollett
      @sihollett 2 года назад

      The core platforms on the Liz are designed for 250m trains. The plan is for lengthening trains to 11-car should that be needed. However the first capacity upgrade will be frequency as the surface stations would mostly need lengthening and so is the more expensive boost.

    Here is that pedantic question. Sorry for the double post.
    When you reach Canary Wharf "Elizabeth Line" Station will you be acknowledging the biggest elephant in the room that is Crossrail Place? Because you never just name stuffs in honour of a "building project"? Sorry to open a slightly bigger can of worms. You wouldn't get someone naming something just say "HS2 Place" on the way to Birmingham now would you. That is why I refer to the "Line" as a mode and the whole thing as Crossrail (note the quotation marks as a refer to the supposed brand).
    Regards,
    Aaron, Lancashire.

    First impression was that I liked the lights and colour scheme, but question the size and scale of the project, the designers had gone out of their way to slash the cash, possibly slowing down the project of testing trains, there was no need to spend so much money in that way.
    Bronze or black, glazed panels on the platforms, think the project was much more nicer to visit than the bland Farringdon, without a doubt it an amazing project, cannot fault the engineers and engineering that worked on site, and again, as Farringdon, why such a large platforms?.
    Wondering with all the staff reductions at tube stations, that there will be enough staff the operator all the stations, when the line does eventually open sometime in 2022.
    That staircase from the main platforms down to the Bakerloo and corridor was very bland, reminded me of an office block, or the stairs at Shadwell Overground.
