  • In this episode the team take a rare opportunity to discover the remains of the Southwark deep-level shelter. Once the short-lived running tunnels of the City & South London Railway, these lengthy dormant passageways were repurposed for civilian shelter during the Second World War. The team are joined in the studio by the Museum's Head of Retail, Laura Mullins, to talk about what they want for Christmas from the Museum shop! www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/

    This was fascinating. This tunnel seems to go under the burial yard at St. George the Martyr, Southwark, (11.32) where I used to be a parishioner. That whole church was built on wooden stilts c. 1750 in the old marsh. The church was renovated c. 2000 to give it concrete footings and a proper crypt. So all this is pretty squishy land. Carrying on further might have been a travesty.

    Than you for a great year and all through Covid. Our sanity was saved by you three with your lovely off beat humour, accurate info. without being total anoraks. Shame there isn't an OSCAR for vlogging, you'd certainly deserve one.

    What a great episode, Really good to see those tunnels again. I had the chance to walk those CSLR tunnels all the way to the mesh fence a couple of times while doing some surving for work. Its very dusty down there for sure, at the time there were only my footprints left in the dust beyond the point where the site lighting stopped, it was torches to light the way after that!
    Cant wait for the next eposide and then Series 7
    Great work as always!

    Chris can I ask about the pillar drill? I’m looking for one myself, but no one I know has one.. trying to find recommendations is a nightmare, yours looks rather nice 😊 would you Recommend it?
    Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas 🙂

      Hi Steve. Yes my little pillar drill is very handy for odd jobs but I bought it 24years ago from B&Q so it is unlikely to be a current model! It has been very reliable and I think they still make a similar one. If I was replacing it I’d probably get the small one from Axminster tools.

    • @MrSteveBertone
      @MrSteveBertone Год назад +1

      Thank you for responding and thank you for the information, I have seen the drill in the background many times, always wanted to ask.
      I’ll take a look in to Axminster tools asap, I think a Christmas present to myself is on the cards.
      Have a great Christmas 🙂
