re the doorbell. I used to be a GP in Rochdale. One of my patients there had a serving hatch between the kitchen and dining room in their house. The hatch had a sliding door which was operated by an ex-Rochdale Corporation bus 'push once' bellpush: when pressed, the door slid back and you were served your food.

Feels good to be all caught up now. I literally don't have the words to describe that shot of the tile work with the old station name on there! There are many of us who are equally jealous as Alex to what you have witnessed. Just fantastic!
Not only in London were too many stations. In New York PATH has several closed stations of which 19th Street was closed to speed up the service and because it was thought to be too close to 14th Street and 23rd Street. There is no wall separating the platform area from the tracks and the station can be clearly seen from passing trains. It has the concrete arches seen at several other PATH stations, looking a bit like the arches of the Western Arcade at London Bridge. It has been painted white, or at least it was when I last saw it in 2010, and some sort of plant has been installed on the platform, not sure exactly what, pumps or generators maybe. This was a fairly late closure, sometime in the ‘50s I think. Not far away was 28th Street Station which was closed when the terminus of the line at 34th Street had to be moved some distance South to allow a new station on the Subway to be built, which put it too close to 28th Street. This was an earlier closure and there’s little to be seen. As for putting things in Gardens, some stones from the Euston Arch ended up in the garden of the demolition contractor in, I think, Bromley.
The real Hidden bit would be the extra westbound platform alongside the existing westbound Piccadilly platform. The middle of it become the lower concourse when the escalators were added, don’t know what happened to the rest of the platform tunnel.
What an amazing place. The watercolour from a viewer was really nice work. Laura and Chris were stupidly lucky to be able to go there in the dead of night. I just loved the emerald, mustard and white tiles and would love to do a virtual tour. Always astonished at the standards of workmanship that means the tiling has stood the test of time, filth and vibration. It would be nice to see some pride in finishing like that today as all too often, it's missing. Thank you for this on a very wet chilly afternoon!
when I was a toddler my parents moved into a house in Cheval Place 10 mins walk from there we left in late 77 early 78 in all that time I must have taken a short cut through Cottage Place at least once a fortnight had no idea there was a disused station there of course at that time I knew nothing about the Oxblood Tile design element on the corner there used to be a tiny little pub, the former public entrance was then a massive white wall, gave no inkling of its former use
from wikipedia - Proposals for reuse In 2011, proposals from The Old London Underground Company were made suggesting the parts of the station which were used during World War II be opened to the public, with the remainder of the above-ground buildings becoming a restaurant, and the rest of the underground space being turned over to the London Fire Brigade Museum.[5][6][7] In July 2013, the Ministry of Defence announced the site was for sale, with an expected price of about £20 million.[8] The MoD's property surveyor said specialist developers could adapt the 28,000 square feet (2,600 m2) site but stated "a lot of work was needed".[9] In May 2014, the site was sold for £53 million to Dmytro Firtash, a billionaire Ukrainian businessman who claimed an intention to convert it to residential use.[2] The property remained unused as of October 2017.[10]
I know exactly what you need to get to Brompton Road without having to walk along the track: a pump trolley (rail handcar), as featured in numerous movies (especially the old silent ones)! I think TfL ought to invest in a few.
Can’t understand it, as it was mentioned that the building was demolished, it closed in 1934, yet there are two photos of Brompton Road station, they are not the same, so when was the current building built please?, as this may not be the 1906 original...?.

If you had walked there from South Kensington Piccadilly platforms, you would have seen the start of the deep level District line tunnels

Original exists. One part of it was pulled down. But street level and underground station are not now connected.
