Basically they are referencing when the big earthquake happens in California around the San Andreas fault. Southern California will sink in the ocean and Arizona now will have beachfront property.

Tool is probably my most favourite band, yet I can't appreciate APC or Puscifer anywhere near enough to regularly listen to. In fact I am not even familar with all their songs, what I have heared is playing in a whole different league than tool is. Just my opinion though, I never understood the comparisment of those bands, only because Maynard is represented in those.

I could always see a picture of it when the quiet slow part starts. The singing starts low and quiet, ever increasing like a meteor approaching. The guitar solo adds in like the meteor screaming across the sky. Then adds In "learn to swim" repeating like the meteor showers. The building waves and crashing of tidal waves at the end ..... GOD I LOVE TOOL.
Tool takes you on a journey with each song. WOKE and waking others. Inspired and inspiring.
"'Cause Mom's gonna fix it all soon, Mom's coming 'round to put it back the way it ought to be" is referring to Mother Earth.

If you really want the full Tool experience you should do a full album listen. Lateralus or 10,000 days. Tool isn't meant to be listened to one song at a time but I still love the reactions. I've loved this band since 1993. Nice to see the younger generation recognizing greatness. Keep it up!

This song grew out of the comedy of a comedian named Bill Hicks. He came up with the Arizona Bay(Which has no ocean around it) Tool also dedicated this album to Bill Hicks. I heard this in about 2000. My friend played it for me and I instantly had a new favorite song and group. It’s pronounced An-A-Ma

Welcome to TOOL man!!! You have to check out their music videos. The official ones are for Sober, Prison Sex, Schism, Anemia, Stinkfist, Parabola, and Vicarious. Adam Jones ( the guitarist) mainly produced the videos. They are very artistic evolving stop motion and very in-depth, dark, surreal masterpieces. Adam Jones was a make up effects artist for many movies, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, and more. You must deeply look into the guys of TOOL. They are their own Genre, and the most undeniable band ever!! Nobody can be like them personally.
that article uses a lot of big words for no good reason but basically carl jung reckoned that your personality goes deeper than the part you show to the world i.e. the socially acceptable part, there's also everything that we keep hidden away. he called these aspects of someone's personality that are hidden and common to all people 'archetypes'. one of them's your shadow which is all the parts of you that society told you shouldn't be part of you, that you keep hidden away even from yourself. your violent urges, and all the things that piss you off about others (jung reckoned that when people irritate us it's because they're reminding us that we're hypocrites). then you've got the anima (feminine side of a man) or animus (masculine side of a woman). these are the things that don't come into your gender expression, society makes us keep that side hidden away. there are many archetypes, the tyrant or the wise father, the nagging crone or the nurturing mother. you find them throughout the swiss tarot deck. an archetype that stays hidden can cause what jung called complexes, these are patterns of behaviour that we're not in control of. so a man who's not aware of his feminine side may end up despising women and exhibiting negative feminine characteristics (now i'm using too many big words in an already long winded explanation) tho he won't know he's doing it. this song's just aenema, it's got nothing to do with the anima, it's just about flushing away everything that's fake in america. then again maybe america's a metaphor for the human psyche
Be sure to understand, Maynard gives the caveat, "don't just call me pessimist, try and read between the lines", it's all just a rant about the superficiality of L.A. in general, and I'd say only in his deepest, darkest mood would he ever really want this, Maynard is "woke" enough to not really want anything this catastrophic. Well, except for all the people he rails against in that part of the song, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't care in the slightest to see them gone, but generally I think Maynard is into exploring the dark side, but expressing the light side in reality. Listen to Lateralus to get more in tune with Maynard's actual philosophy in life.
Rarely will you find a Tool song with just one facet to it.
This song is basically Maynards hatred towards L.A. and he wants a tidal wave to destroy L.A.
Arizona Bay is a reference to the rumor that California is going to break off and fall into the ocean due to a large earthquake and then you can buy beachfront property in Arizona
3rd Album. "Opiate" was technically an EP, but it was a great album. Then came "Undertow" and then "Aenima".
