    David (Woody Harrelson) and Diana Murphy (Demi Moore) are a married couple and have loved each other since highschool. Diana is a top-notch real estate agent and David is a talented architect hoping to establish himself by designing their dream project: a beachfront house in Santa Monica in which the lovers have invested everything they have. However, when the recession hits, their finances take a nosedive. bruh idc what she felt, she kissed him passionately and expect to go back to David and kiss him with the same lips. Even if she fucked another man for billions I would never accept that nor comprehend it. I mean she was married, for who specifically told her husband after they'd just lost their money that she still loves him even without the money and then lose sleep over not fucking another guy for money. And David a huge ass simp for taking her back it just irritated me more than anything. I didn't even watch the whole thing, I saw where the narrative was going when they started considering taking the money and after David did not punch the shit outta that rich guy for proposing to buy his wife ini front of him. It sends a really fucked up message to men it's disgusting, how in the hell is a guy that just paid to fuck your wife, does it, effectively ruin your marriage and then decide to give her back when he's had his fun considered noble and she even kisses him and says thank you bruh that's just disrespectful. The audacity both the girl and the rich guy had is crazy to me, her marriage will never be the same after something like that which is a good reason not to even entertain the idea in the first place much less try to salvage the relationship afterwards. A man that accepts that is a disgrace and has no dignity, being emasculated like that is something no man should tolerate and it shouldn't be romanticized like this. It's what's further debasing Americans mentality and view o relationships. It was too much I couldn't even pretend to be interested in the plot

      What John represents is limerence and infatuation that comes with deeply sharing feelings and information about pasts. She chose John before, to hold her ground against her blaming jealous husband. But, she was never truly in love with him. She was infatuated by him, by his uniqueness, and how deeply he looks at her with love etc. He loved her, she was just mesmerised by how much she was loved, rather than loving him.
      After husband lets it go and truly moves on from the trauma, she realizes she chose emptiness over real love, just because their love was tested by this guy. And, the moment divorce papers signed, she was already having thoughts about only her husband in her mind.

    In my opinion of this movie Redford's character represents a man who thinks he can get anything he wants because he has everything, money, power and influence but the truth is he is a lonely man he is empty inside. He can have any women he wants but all those women are only after sex and his money. No one has ever loved him the way Diana loved David. So he got curious and obssessed with Diana. He manipulated things and took advantage of the circumsrance that Diana and David were facing to prove if there is really true love when money intervenes. At the end he realized that true love really exists. Diana never looked at him the way he looked at David when in fact David was nothing compared to him.

    I remember watching this movie in my late teens. Very complex and quite good for what it is IMO. Perhaps a narcissist, Gage was also enough of a realist to understand that she'd never love him the same as she did her husband. He could buy anything and even though he initially got her, it still wasn't enough. I give him credit for letting her go, but at the same time it was his narcissism that helped drive his decision. She might love him, but she would not love him enough or the way he wants her to love him.

    • @PatrickStar19872
      @PatrickStar19872 Год назад

      You're right and wrong. His narcissism is constructed from the fact he's not achieved love. It's as if it's a temporary remedy for something so far gone, like achieving the woman of his dreams. He made the great choice of letting her go and continue her pursue of love for her real love but in the end, nobody was a winner. It's a shit show, you just want him to find the one woman.

      If you ask me that's a little too late to realize maybe it's wrong to go off in a sunset with a homewrecker. It blew my mind when David didn't high kick her ass when she came back at the end. After getting all the horny fucked outta her and being wined and dined by another man. The whole thing was debased and wrong from the beginning, I would've much rather liked it if the plot was more realistic. You have to be completely naive and delusional to think that the wife can lay down with another man for money and come back to the same marriage and husband, now a man very much could but the woman is different. As a man every time he looks at her after that he'll just think about her getting pleased and liking it by another dude and knowing your wife has a price, it's juts a ticking time bomb

He destroyed a marriage and did it with intent, using his wealth and success to do it as he knew this couple were so desperately poor. He really was the villain in this yet I never really disliked him when watching it. He also manipulated her with the whole coin thing, letting the toss of a coin decide whether she went through with their arrangement for her to sleep with him when it was a fake coin to begin with so he knew the outcome anyway. No doubt if the roles were reversed, the whole world would despise any female character who did this 😅

    You know what I always found funny about this scene, aside from the fact that it's dark and raining when he gets out of the car to open her door, but dawn and not raining by the time she gets out? It's what people see when they watch it. Lots of my women friends view this a some sort of testament to girl power; that she'd convinced John that he's never going to measure up to David. But I see it and I think, well... rich man offers you $1MM to sleep with him, you do it, it craters your relationship (surprise surprise) so you hook up with the millionaire, but get shook when you discover he's done that same thing numerous times, THEN you realize you had it better before.
