You're the man Oliver, keep on keeping on. As a massive Robocop fan I was suprised to check back in 20 years on to see that Robocop 2 is not so popular. Sure the original Robocop is a touch act to follow but I've never had a problem with it, imo a strong sequel.
I've always had a soft spot for RoboCop 2, never really understood the hate for it, maybe because I watched it religiously as a kid and loved it. My nostalgia clouds my judgement, but regardless would love the blu Ray but don't have a region free player. Well done on the interview for the doc, that's amazing, look forward to seeing it
Jon Blasik I also have a soft sport for RoboCop 2. I understand people's criticisms of the film. But I don't think it was a train wreck by any means. I definitely think the fight between RoboCain and RoboCop at the end of the film is awesome and some of the best stop motion animation ever filmed. I heard Blomkamp is going to try to follow the original story idea of the sequel in his sequel he's working on.
It didn't feel like the first movie which is why I didn't like it. The villain was also really...cheesy and wasn't interesting. RoboCain looked more like a discount Terminator.
I had Robocop 2 on VHS as a child. I think I was a little young for it at 6, but to this day it remains one of my favorite movies. I bought a brand new VHS copy and broke the Orison seal myself. I think it is an underappreciated jem. The brain in the jar always creeped me out. I love your videos Oliver. Keep doing what you do.
Excellent upload mate - keep them coming. I always appreciate your reviews because they are without the usual hyperbole you find with many many other RUclipsrs. Very easy to listen to, very factual and insightful and always a treat to see another upload!
I quite enjoyed Robocop 2 as a youngster for its ridiculous violence, but even then i knew it didn't hold a candle to #1. When i saw Robocop 3 at around 12 or 13 i was frankly disgusted with how the franchise had been fucked over. Then the year after maybe the tv show turned up. Rip Robocop.
I think Robocop is a reasonable trilogy, but the excess violence of R2 is balanced out by the lighter tone of R3. In any case, even if R3 is rubbish, it is at least a bookend to the story to finally see OCP go bankrupt and their dream of Delta City to finally DIE. Besides, the campiness of the British villain is hilarious ("You stupid SLAG!") and the Splatterpunks are funny. Then again, I agree that the empty death of Robo's long-time partner rubbed many up the wrong way. In any case, it's all a mixed bag, all three of them. Only R1 is really iconic and quotable. I remember even Siskel and Ebert loving the first one, being offended by the second and wanting it to end by the third. And don't forget the TV series and movies, too, most of which I haven't seen, BTW.
I'm in very small minority but I love all 3 RoboCop films. I even love part 2 as much as the original. Also, I'm a huge fan of RoboCop: The Series (1994-1995)
Oliver, have you thought about doing more of these, specifically with SF releases? It would be helpful to see someone discuss a lot of the specials in this manner, plus knowing about sound quality (or issues, as they have been notorious for in a few releases), sound track, etc.
I had the movie poster for 2 when I was 11...It was door size, and was so awesome!! Him coming thru the wall looked so cool in my room...I miss it!!! Great reviews.....I'm planning to get these and the first one soon!!
It would be interesting if Scream Factory will do a collectors edition of the first film, even though it's been released on blu ray before, but it's not stopped SF before when they did a collectors edition of Child's Play. Plus it would be cool to finally have the original theatrical poster for the blu ray cover.
bigevilworldwide1 Completely disagree with the bare bones. MGM's extras were as follows: Audio Commentary with cast members Alex Vincent and Catherine Hicks and Chucky designer Kevin Yagher Audio Commentary with producer David Kirschner with screenwriter Don Mancini Extras:Select Scene Audio Commentary with Chucky "Evil Comes in Small Packages" 3-part documentary (with Play All option): - "The Birth of Chucky" (7:20) - "Creating the Horror" (12:10) - "Unleashed" (5:20) "Chucky: Building a Nightmare" featurette (10:05) "A Monster Convention" featurette (5:26) "Introducing Chucky: The Making of Child's Play" vintage featurette (6:23) Theatrical Trailer (2:08) Photo Gallery (75 images) Bonus Trailer: The first Robocop will sell under SF, as collectors would buy it to match up with the SF released sequels.
I look forward to seeing you on that Robodoc when its finished Ollie, Thanks for sheding so much light on this new version of Robocop 2, I love that movie so much and yeah any information on the making of was very hard to come by, am glad there is a wealth of content on the disc. keep up the Good work! :)
Picked up my copies already as II has grown on me and III has its flaws but I was very curious to hear Fred Dekker's thoughts. I'm glad that he's back with his friend Shane Black and working on the Predator sequel. Hopefully this will resurrect his career. Great job on this, Oliver. I'm interested to see more videos like this.
An interesting take on the review of Blu-Ray Oliver. You should continue experimenting in this kind of commentaries in which you can gave context to many movies that did not receive a good treatment. Greetings from Santiago de Chile and continue given us more of your awesome videos.
Hi Oliver. Long time fan. Love the reviews and audio commentaries. I notice, in this video, that you have clips of the Blu Ray special features. I'm wanting to review cult Blu Rays (the kinda stuff you get on Arrow Video or 88 Films) for my channel, but have no idea how to rip the footage! I've googled it, but can't find a proper answer. I was wondering if you could tell me how you do it for your show. Many thanks xx
hey dude, first you need a bluray player, you can grab a potable blu-ray player with a USB connector to play into your Mac or PC. Then you need software to rip the information from the disc. Check out DVDFab.
Might pick this up if the picture quality is decent. I got the DVD trilogy boxset really cheap a while back so I've always just had that but I got the 4K remastered of Robocop which looks great so if it's anything like that I'll probably get this. I've always really liked this film, of course it's not as clever and smart as the first, but I watch it almost as much as the original. Love the violence in the second one as well haha! Great review mate!
Thanks for the review Oliver. Very informative and entertaining as always. Certainly looking forward to hearing you talk about lawnmower man. It's one of those movies that was flawed, but had some great concepts.
I totally love this blu-ray review video. Please do more of them. Side-note: I hate these movies. But I love to see how studio drama ruins movies and LOVE behind-the-scenes stuff. I'll be buying these and eagerly await RoboDoc's release. Please do one for Lawnmower Man! I'll be buying that movie too!
I actually enjoy 3 more than 2. Was it ever explained why they didn't get Dan O'Herlihy back as the head of OCP for Robocop 3? It was so unsatisfying seeing OCP taken down but with Rip Torn oafishly in charge rather than the old man.
Do you know who did the artwork from the case covers? I wanna draw those artworks in the future and I wanna credit the original artist, but I don't know who it is, all I see is a PC or PS written on both artworks, but that's it. If you know the name of the artist please tell me.
Good work, Oliver. You should do a review of Exorcist III: Legion, the theatrical and director's cut, also released by Scream Factory. Just as good as the first Exorcist.
I love Robocop 2, and am a bit surprised Nancy Allen agreed to do interviews, because she apparently hated the director and has said that production was one of the worst experiences of her career. And, yes, Robo 2's music fucking sucks. I'd love to see some kind of fan cut that edits in Basil Polouris's score using samples from 1 and 3.
Robocop 2 Collector Edition is $22.19 US and Robocop 3 Collector Edition is $22.19 US. While Robocop Trilogy is $13.96 US. Is it better getting the Robocop Trilogy or the Collector Editions seperately?
I remember watching a movie on VHS when I was young called Ice Pirates. 1984 active/adventure/comedy set in the future were water is scarce. It probably doesn't hold up if I watched it now but I loved that movie back then. I haven't seen much about it on RUclips and would love to see a review from you on it.
Ed ward The Prime Directives miniseries? I remember watching them when I was a kid and loving them, but looking back at a few clips recently, they were pretty shit
Ed ward Eh... lol For the SciFi series it was, it was similar to the TV Series. Not having access to a lot of the rights or characters. So, you had to get "around" some of the characters and what not and where it fits in RoboLore. But, it was a little ridiculous. Lol
Good review with a lots of info. I wish you would have spent a little more time on comparing the picture quality on the old Blu-ray vs the new edition.Yes, I would love for you to do more cult classic Blu-ray reviews. Flash Gordon.
I remember the Peter Weller anti-drug psa, I remember seeing it on home video VHS when it came out before the picture, after the trailers. bazaar man, that memory was lost in the ether until I saw the spot of it in your run down of Robocop 2.
@oliver harper I see these are only available to the US/Canada and I'm guessing from your accent you're from the UK? I ask as I'm also UK based and wondered how you got hold of them? Would love to get my hands on these :)
I remember hearing they made a robo 4 (cancelled very early) and there was apparently a pirate vid of cuts from the editing floor but I heard this when I was a kid and looking back I'ld say the story was probably nonsense hehe
Oliver Harper sorry, but I don't see the link. Is it emembedded in the video? I may have them disabled... I don't have a multi-region blu-Ray player either.
That's funny about the score, obviously the first film's score was the best but I thought the second film score was alright. I can't really watch the third film ever again but I'll try to listen to the score separately. Not surprised Peter doesn't want to talk about Robocop anymore, I thought he was gracious enough when discussing the remake when asked.
I am looking at robocop prime directives for the first time and although it is not an excellent product it is at least a production that I never saw and I am enjoying it as a child !! my editions in bluray (trilogy pack) contains additional material only from the first, the second and third only bring trailers unfortunately), LETS HOPE FOR THE RUMORS OF A NEW MOVIE !!saludos desde argentina!!!!!!!!!!
The music (of 2) was a travesty, the film was very dark and mean but as a huge robo fan I did enjoy it to a point. Still think they could and should have gone for a more exposing piece on the humanity of Robo in the 3rd movie (along with keeping the adult rated cert) that separated him from the failed attempts at a cyborg in the 2nd, kind of making robocop 2 a double parter storywise with a warmth to counteract the 2nd movie yet still keeping the satire and brutality of the 1st imo.
Seems these didn't get a DVD release? Very sad imo. Hate when things are released as Blu Ray only.. The DVD versions I've seen of Robocop 2 has basically been garbage, just been waiting for something like this and it's only Blu Ray.. -_-
Robocop 3 could have worked, if they had included more cyborgs on the side of the OCP, and if they made a more open civil-war kind of thing. Robocop 2 was okay. I really dont hate it as much as most people do. It really had a too tough act to follow. Robocop 2 at least was many times better than the Robocop remake.
Oliver Harper how do region free players work? Do you need a licence or certain cables or is it just more expensive? I've been looking for one and most of them seem to be made in America.
no no silly, its all software based 90% of the time, in some cases its a mod you have apply inside it. You can find loads of multi regional bluray players on eBay.

Jon Blasik it was ahhh ok, comparing it to the original tho. They could have done s lot more with it
I understand the hate for 2 perfectly. Not only is it vastly inferior to Robocop, but it flat out spits in its face.
Yeah--like the best thing they could've done--not make a sequel.

Excellent upload mate - keep them coming. I always appreciate your reviews because they are without the usual hyperbole you find with many many other RUclipsrs. Very easy to listen to, very factual and insightful and always a treat to see another upload!
He looks a little bit like a young British version of James Woods.
Max from Once Upon A Time In America

Yeah and The Lawnmower man.

Bloody brilliant reviews, keep 'em coming. Cheers!
Thanks Adrian!
This is a fantastic video Oliver. Very detailed and informative. Cheers.
Tempted to get Robocop 2, any UK availability?
The Blu ray is available online, but not the latest one, sadly.
I loved this. Felt like I was already watching the blu rays and then I realized I haven't even ordered them yet!
Wish these were available in the UK.
Are there any visual enchancements with the Robocop 2 and 3 Collector Editions?
Hi Oliver. Long time fan. Love the reviews and audio commentaries.

Robocop 2 is my favorite. I love the hyper violence and epic story, the mean spiritedness, all the stuff Frank Miller brought to the script.
Thanks for the review Oliver. Very informative and entertaining as always.
Certainly looking forward to hearing you talk about lawnmower man. It's one of those movies that was flawed, but had some great concepts.
Good video Oliver.
Still haven't seen Robocop 3 though.
Love your work. This Bluray release review video is great. Love to see more.
I totally love this blu-ray review video.
Please do more of them.

Awesome reviews as usual Oliver! Do you plan on reviewing the RoboCop Prime Directives mini series someday?
Hope he does, I love the mini series, apart from Page as RoboCop.
Really enjoyed this Oliver :) it's good to know if these remasters are worth picking up. Please do more :)
Robocop 2 is one of the most underrated movies ever.
Would love to see more of these!
Where did you import these from?
You said links would be in the description
I love Robocop 2, and am a bit surprised Nancy Allen agreed to do interviews, because she apparently hated the director and has said that production was one of the worst experiences of her career. RZetlin Collector's Edition because the Trilogy pack are bare bones and have poor picture quality compared to the new versions.

Lovely stuff.
Not my words but the words of Shakin Stevens
another fantastic video Oliver!

Are these discs region locked Oliver?
Can they be watched on a european BluRay player?
Anyone know what music is played in the end of all of Olivers uploads?
The music is from Black Rain.
Thanks! It's a nice tune :D
I just got RoboCop 2 on Blu-ray for Christmas this year.
would it be possible to maybe explore more horror movie classics in your future retrospectives?
@oliver harper I see these are only available to the US/Canada and I'm guessing from your accent you're from the UK? I ask as I'm also UK based and wondered how you got hold of them? Would love to get my hands on these :)
Hi Glenn, I picked up my copies from importcds.com remember these are 'Region A' so you will need a multi regional player.
Do you think will ever have a Robocop 4
Awesome!! Thanks very much :)
I remember hearing they made a robo 4 (cancelled very early) and there was apparently a pirate vid of cuts from the editing floor but I heard this when I was a kid and looking back I'ld say the story was probably nonsense hehe
"Remo Williams: Unarmed and Dangerous" 1985 starring Fred Ward (Tremors) and Kate Mulgrew (Captain of Star Trek:Voyager LOL).
Great video as always, Oliver.
And I'd love to see more Blu-ray reviews.
I saw Robocop 3 as a kid and loved it. (And I still do!!)
Where can i buy these fine new items?I just did a quick amazon search and nothing turned up...
Try amazon.com I have provided links however. Its the pinned post at the top.
Oliver Harper sorry, but I don't see the link. Is it emembedded in the video? I may have them disabled...
I don't have a multi-region blu-Ray player either.
does the collectors edition have the full clip of kanes cgi face when dying?
Great stuff. Thanks, Oliver!
Excellent video, mate, and may I also say that the pomp you are sporting is bitchin'! Cheers.
Please do more Blu-ray reviews.
10/10 video best RUclips change
Hey man awesome channel and content!!! Can u plz do interview with a vampire??? Keep up the great work!!!
VillanoMuzik ?
LegitGaming117 idk i saw it and wondered how oliver would do the break down
How can I get these with the slip case
Are the blu-rays compatible with uk players?
That's funny about the score, obviously the first film's score was the best but I thought the second film score was alright. I can't really watch the third film ever again but I'll try to listen to the score separately. Not surprised Peter doesn't want to talk about Robocop anymore, I thought he was gracious enough when discussing the remake when asked.
Excellent video as always! Please do the review on Lawnmower Man, I would love to see that.
Will do. I've got VIRUS on Bluray and im just waiting for Lawnmower Man to turn up.
Nice one - Oliver Harper )
love the blu ray discussion!
Region A Locked like all of SF releases. Hopefully Arrow get a hold of RC2.
Do these discs include digital?
No digital copies im afraid.
Nice RoboCop figure!
Yeah one of my patreon members donated it to me because he had no space for it..the generous bugger!
Is that the Horizon model from the 90's?
Its a NECA figure.
Will these be playable in the UK?
you need a multi regional player. They're locked to region A.
Boom studios has re released the Frank Miller's Robocop 2 and RvT.
Are these discs region free ?
No Region A only. You will need a multi regional player.
Oliver ...how do I get a region 2?? Am UK. Cheers
There is no region 2 release of these collectors editions. You will need to get your Bluray player modified to play region A titles.
Oliver Harper thanks for info...
How about the upcoming Phantasm box set ?
Hoping to see Lawnmower Man review in the near future...
Great discussion
Nice hair Oliver !
ANOTHER!...**smashes laptop on the floor**
What's the region coding on these?
Region A
Ah damn. Shout has such an amazing catalogue, and none of those titles are available in Europe :/ Guess I will stick with the older transfers.
Great video Oliver, very informative with the specs and extras! I would love to see you do more Blu-Ray reviews.
5:25 The punk on the bus from Star Trek IV
Bloody Region A... and I'm still waiting for that Robodoc :(
When i was a young dude, my buddy and I watched all these movies. I reminder Robocop 3 was so bad
Powerful oliver harper
please can you do a retro on Apocalypse Now. Cheers Oliver

I have a few parts of Robocop Last Stand. I have parts 3, 4 and 5.
are these region locked or region free??
They are locked to region A im afraid.
Oliver Harper how do region free players work? Do you need a licence or certain cables or is it just more expensive? I've been looking for one and most of them seem to be made in America.
no no silly, its all software based 90% of the time, in some cases its a mod you have apply inside it. You can find loads of multi regional bluray players on eBay.
thanks for the reply oliver
Oliver Harper out of curiosity, what's your model?
