I haven't heard about Future Shock. Other than the documentary/book which gets updated every decade or so. Good read, btw. I actually read an old copy of it and it was interesting to see how prescient it was. :) But, what is the Future Shock movie you are speaking of? I couldn't find anything except for one that starred Bill Paxton about a psychologist that uses VR on his patients. It looked pretty campy, but is that the one you will be reviewing, Oliver? :)
Teen Wolf was one of those films I saw quite a bit back in the day. I remember having a copy of it and throwing it on every now and again. Can't remember why it was so appealing to me, but it was fun to watch back then. I always wondered and wanted to surf on top of a van after seeing this that is for sure.
my late parents and I used to watch this movie a lot as a kid (we've even seen it in the theaters) and gotten a big laugh out of it, especially seeing Natasha Henstridge naked for the first time. Although, I wished that H.R. Giger had been nominated for a Best Visual/Make-Up Effects Oscar for not only the design of Sil, but for that one sequence involving the "Nightmare train" (as Giger put up some of his own money to get that scene filmed)
Hey Oliver, its a bit off topic, but I just thought I'd let you know, in case you were not aware. The Price Charles Cinema on the 23rd this month is showing a 35mm Print of the original Superman. Since we all know how much of a fan you are, just thought I'd pass it on in case you hadn't heard about it yet. Cheers.
Cheers, thanks for the headsup. I have been going to PCC for about a year now and so far of the few 35-70 prints I have seen, they have all been in pretty good quality. Saw Goonies last night and it was good for a 35mm. Perhaps they sorted their standards out, I don't know. But I will go and see it, if only to get the full effect of the original opening title sequence and great John Williams music. I'll let you know how good or bad the film was. Cheers.
just FYI Scream Factory is just the alternate label Shout Factory use for horror titles. Their proper name is Shout Factory and Teen Wolf was released with that and not the Scream imprint. LOVE YOU xXx
Solid reviews, as usual spot on. I saw Species in cinema when it came out and was a little bit disappointed. With a cast like that (Kingsley, Molina, Madsen, Whitaker) it could have been so much better. It's entertaining, of course, but in comparison to similar themed movies like Alien it's a letdown foremost in the scipt department. Two highlights though: Natasha Henstridge and Christopher Youngs eerie score.
YES! Haven´t watched your review yet but I LOVE this movie! Had such a crush on Boof as a kid. Such a wonderful film, full of charm and feel-goodness. The score by Miles Goodman plays a huge part in that. Really under-rated.
Secret of my Success is probably my fav movie haha. I love the soundtrack and that montage with the song 'Gazebo' by David Foster, a very popular musician from 80s TV and film, is excellent. The movie is about a kid working his way from the bottom to the top. I've always found it a fun, feel good, motivational movie that's perfect for MJF. Love Teen Wolf as well. Also love your reviews!
As always great review. I look forward to all your retrospective reviews. Request for the movie "No Retreat and No Surrender." It's a rip off of Karate Kid and Rocky 4, but if those movies had never existed then that would have been one heck of an originally fun movie. I watched it along with Teen Wolf over and over again while growing up. Oh, there was only one barbarian movie that was a hit after Conan The Barbarian and that was Death Stalker. It's campy and over the top at times but a darned good movie, and the best of the barbarian rip offs.
+Oliver Harper I don’t know why you always give us some kind of disclosure in terms of the movie being something you’re embarrassed about liking. Don’t do that! I absolutely love teen wolf! it is cheesy, it is predictable, but it is such a fun film for me! Nothing but nostalgia for me. It came out when I was five and I remember seeing it for the first time when I was 10. I haven’t seen it in at least 15 years but I gave your video thumbs up when I saw that you were reviewing the Teen Wolf Blu-Ray and when you said it has a 2 1/2 hour documentary, I immediately went to my local electronic store and while I was there, I picked up Teen Wolf Too as well.
Does this release of teen wolf include the scenes where Stiles tries to buy a keg of beer from another liquor store ( never say die), the scene where dogs follow Scott home, and the scene where he talks with his dad after the dance?
I felt like such a nerd in high school, too shy to even consider trying out for the basketball team, or even asking girls out, so I enjoyed Teen Wolf a lot and wished I could be like Stiles or Scott.
I got it off eBay Alex. Here you go! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cannon-Films-Classic-Retro-Movie-Studio-T-Shirt-/262043309116?var=&hash=item3d02ff943c:m:mN0AKyZQWmQEWDeNTlPZUVg
Yeah very honest and frank opinions! Thats why I like interviews years after say a movie has come out and the actors and crew involved are far more honest.
The Relic shares a similar look to Species, it looks kind of soft focus and hazy rather than having any sharpness and detail. Don't know if it's a film stock thing, or just a trend in genre movies in the '90s. Love these reviews of new edition blu rays btw. Love seeing stuff like Fright Night get a release with loads of special features, and even stuff like Split Second showing up on blu ray after years of being hard to track down in decent quality.
The Relic had major issues with its picture transfers to LD & DVD. You could barely see what's happening in the movie. I've not seen it on Bluray so I can comment on that but its dark lighting makes it really tough to see what's happening during monster attacks.
LOL. Teen Wolf and Toxic Avenger were my favorite as a kid. Love your videos man! Good luck and keep up the good work. Hey you should do a Toxic Avenger retrospective if you haven't already.
I took a girlfriend to see Species on our second date. She was very self concious and my efforts to hide my interest in Natasha Henstridge failed miserably, so we spent the taxi ride home arguing. Good times ( sigh). Alas, we didn't stay together long.
1:29 - That's unfortunate that Shout cannot produce region free Blu-ray's. 20:42 I was just going to ask if you recommend any Arrow movies. Please do a review of Psycho 2 and Future Shock. I know Arrow Video is doing crowdfunding to expand into America and if you live near a Fry's Electronics in the states you can buy Arrow videos there.
I have way more Arrow Video (Region B) Blu-rays compared to Shout/Scream Factory. I'm even in the USA without a Blu-ray disc player but I can still watch them. Self-built computer, you see.
Yes, Teen Wolf does come off as a little dated now. Still, it has charm and is pleasant time flyer that one can enjoy. A goofy pleasure. A lot of the charm comes from Michael J. Fox, but you can see that the cast obviously enjoyed making the film. All of the performances are good and they are in-sync. There is chemistry and they feed of each other really well. Teen Wolf is an example of how films from the 1980s were made with the sole purpose of entertaining people. Allowing the audience to have fun was the key goal back then for the producers of these types of films. Yes, they would touch on a social issue or a specific topic, but they didn't preach or overwhelm audiences with it. Today, too many films 'bash the ears' of audiences on social issues. I caught a session of Species at the local cinema when it was released in 1995. I enjoyed it as there were fine performances and Sil is one of best creations to ever to come to the big screen thanks to the efforts of creative genius H.R Giger and the fantastic work of Steve Johnson and his team. Yes, it is slow in places and the final confrontation was anti-climatic. No real suspense or terror in that sequence. You don't get the feeling the protagonists are up against a formidable antagonist. They overplayed SIl as a tragic figure who struggles with the fact she is half human and half alien. In a sense its sole narrative is one of playing around with nature and science without thinking of the consequences. But doesn't construct it with any complexity. Its just create a creature so a few people die before she is ultimately destroyed. You're waiting around to see the scientists who created Sil get they comeuppance for genetically engineering her. I believe there is a great to film to be made from this franchise as their are so many areas one could explore. Species is crying out for a remake with Giger's creation, a good director, fine cast and a narrative that interweaves complex subject matter with subtle humour, action and sheer terror.
I loved this movie as a kid so that nostalgia will always be with me i own the VHS and a barebones blu ray copy but i NEED THIS Blu ray lol thanks for the upload oliver
Arrow have a far wider spread than Shout/Scream Factory. They don't just cover underground horror, they have westerns, spaghetti westerns, film noir, Italian giallo, Japanese cinema, yakuza and J-horror, Corman movies, mainstream American horror, thrillers and comedy, documentaries, Eastern European cinema, British cinema and even modern stuff like Donnie Darko and Ronin.
Remixes into 5.1 are very good if they have all the elements but many labels with a limited budget tend to do fake remixes that don't really provide a decent natural surround sound.
I loved Teen Wolf when I was a kid, and watched it multiple times. Then I went over 20 years without seeing it, and tried to watch it again as an adult. It didn't hold up for me at all. I couldn't make it through the whole movie.

man, haven't seen "Species" in almost a decade, despite owning the DVD. although I will admit, that Natasha Henstridge has some titties
Teen Wolf was one of those films I saw quite a bit back in the day. I remember having a copy of it and throwing it on every now and again. Can't remember why it was so appealing to me, but it was fun to watch back then. I always wondered and wanted to surf on top of a van after seeing this that is for sure.
Psycho 2 is so underrated. ...but fuck that we need a Highlander 2 commentary
haha okay I will sort it soon!

There's an interview of Michael J. Fox on the "Back to the Future" DVD were he kind of bad-mouths "Teen Wolf". It seemed like he regretted doing it.
my first ever vhs was teenwolf my brother got the neverending story and my sister got jem those were good memories

Since we all know how much of a fan you are, just thought I'd pass it on in case you hadn't heard about it yet. Cheers.
hey dude, the print Prince Charles shows is really badly damaged. I saw a showing over a year ago and left halfway through to get my money back.
Cheers, thanks for the headsup. I have been going to PCC for about a year now and so far of the few 35-70 prints I have seen, they have all been in pretty good quality. Teen Wolf & Species! My 2 most favorite movies EVAR!

Your t-shirt is brilliant.
Thank you!
@@OliverHarper Re-visit Secret Of My Success in HD , perhaps. It's a classic.
Solid reviews, as usual spot on. I saw Species in cinema when it came out and was a little bit disappointed. Do you have a blu-ray review of the new Jeepers Creepers Collectors Ed by Scream Factory?
Oliver, will you please do a retrospective on The Lost Boys and the Young Guns movies.
I liked the the team they put together for finding Sil: an anthropologist, a molecular biologist, an empath and a mercenary.
YES! Haven´t watched your review yet but I LOVE this movie! Had such a crush on Boof as a kid. Such a wonderful film, full of charm and feel-goodness. The score by Miles Goodman plays a huge part in that. Really under-rated.

I'll never forget the quote on the Teen Wolf VHS cover. "Michael J Fox is much better here than he is Back to the Future".

Nice review. Any chance you'll look at Arrows release of The people under the stairs?
I think SPECIES is ripe for a remake, just change the bland ending
I felt like such a nerd in high school, too shy to even consider trying out for the basketball team, or even asking girls out, so I enjoyed Teen Wolf a lot and wished I could be like Stiles or Scott.
Awesome video Oliver, I might grab Teen Wolf for the documentary. I hope you do the reviews on the Arrow Films Blu-Rays!
Thanks for your feedback. Its crazy to see a doc that's longer than the film! lol
Ok, I gotta ask, where did you get the Cannon Films shirt from? Cause knowing that exists is very rad.
I got it off eBay William. It cost about £15.
Hey Oliver love all your videos! Just a quick question, where did the Cannon t-shirt from? Thanks
I got it off eBay Alex. Here you go! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cannon-Films-Classic-Retro-Movie-Studio-T-Shirt-/262043309116?var=&hash=item3d02ff943c:m:mN0AKyZQWmQEWDeNTlPZUVg
Thanks!
Future Shock was great, I loved how the creators did hold any punches or acted "professional" they chucked each other under the bus.
Yeah very honest and frank opinions! Thats why I like interviews years after say a movie has come out and the actors and crew involved are far more honest.
The score(to Species)is pretty good. Very reminiscent of Young's music to Hellraiser.
Yes very true Andrew!
"A can of mauve... A can of cocoa..." heheheh :P
The Relic shares a similar look to Species, it looks kind of soft focus and hazy rather than having any sharpness and detail. Don't know if it's a film stock thing, or just a trend in genre movies in the '90s.

I think The Relic looks better. It has more of a noir look to it. Although some scenes are a little too dark.

Finally got the Teen Wolf Scream Factory Blu-ray today :-D
Nice Cannon films t-shirt man. Could you do a review of The Runaway Train 1985 please?
I wonder why that girl had her fly undone in the first place?
Glorious hair. Haha
Damn right! lol
I loved this movie as a kid so that nostalgia will always be with me i own the VHS and a barebones blu ray copy but i NEED THIS Blu ray lol thanks for the upload oliver
I was referring to Teen Wolf lol

Future Shock was great.
Review "The Princess Bride"
We, now, got Arrow Video, in the U.S.!
Nice *Cannon Group* T-shirt 👕
Yes! Psycho 2!
I saw this twice in the cinema 🙈
I love both Teen Wolf and Species. I hate 5.1 remixes. Give me the original audio mix in lossless.
Remixes into 5.1 are very good if they have all the elements but many labels with a limited budget tend to do fake remixes that don't really provide a decent natural surround sound.
I don't even bother. I go for the original mix. Which Arrow tends to go for which I prefer. No added foley at all.
Love it
cheers
nooo!!!! secret is fantastic!!!!
Well, well it's Jeph Loeb. Forgot he wrote this.
Teen wolf saw it in 85 one of my favourites. Teen wolf 2 one of the worst films ever made.
I loved Teen Wolf when I was a kid, and watched it multiple times. Then I went over 20 years without seeing it, and tried to watch it again as an adult. It didn't hold up for me at all. I couldn't make it through the whole movie.
Species 2 is an improvement over part one; it's so dumb and trashy
Lousy reviewer ! So how's the transfer? The sound?
I meen teenwolf
Scream Factory have released many classics, and then there's these two stinkers!
