So what you're saying is they Star Wars'd it...? Well, that's not ENTIRELY true. This movie at least made an attempt to make me care about the new leads, not like Star Wars.
They killed off John huh? Hmm. So, what was the point of the original two films again? To keep John alive? Well hey I guess we learned nothing from Terminator 3?
@@henryhill6637 it was the same actor who played him all the way back in T2 right? Well way to bring him back only to make him CG, say nothing and die in 3 minutes.

Phantom Meanness and the prequels are as bad as they were in the past Rise of the Machines still is a slap to the face to T2 Enterprise still is a terrible contradiction and has bad writing. I know that Terminator Genesys and this new one, plus the new Star Wars movies and Star Trek Series make us think that those of the past aint that bad. But they are.
I loved every Terminator film..1 & 2 are masterpieces. I love T3: Rise of the Machines but it gets a lot of hate it does not deserve..Salvation & Genisys were good popcorn flicks
no it should totally continue in the judgment days future Wars is just sadly the others movies haven't done the proper justice to it despite the fact that i like Salvation which attempted part of the future war
yeah honestly nothing will ever compare to the way the future war was showed in the original Terminator as Kyle reese it had this unique type of dread and a very apocalyptic epic sci fi that sadly we will never see again in any other movie but at the same time i thought the future looked and felt desolated in salvation i guess something about it did felt very judgment day to me but you are right, Terminator needs to be as dark and scary as it can possibly be fuck really love Terminator as a whole mostly cos Kyle reese is one of my personal most dearest soldeir-hero of all times
@@mgloco88 It didn't fail. It was all on fangays, whom cried that it's not 1:1 copy of T1 and T2 flashbacks - people were too stupid to understand that action of the movie was set up something like 20 years before Kyle Reese flashbacks from T1. Connor just got his scar and leader role of resistance, Skynet just started to produce model 101 and laser technology was in development. I'm not even going to mention that "future war" we know from those flashbacks is going to start soon. What we see in Salvation was people trying to hide and survive. They are hunted, caught and used as a forced labourers. Real war started when John became commander and taught them how to fight and resist machines. Fans of this franchise are: 1) Too fucken dumb 2) Still wearing nostalgia glasses
I don't even want the Future War. Terminator was a Great Stand Alone movie. No need to any sequel. It got 1 good sequel though, T2.. but now it is ridiculous. Even T2 contradicted that the resistance won and kill Sarah was the last ditch (now they knew they fail and send the T1000 too?). The idea that you can't stop judgement day and that Skynet or Skynet like AI would always do EXACT the same is stupid. The future war is a good setting but not interesting enough, maybe on a miniseries but not to watch on the cinema. I want a new franchise, i don't want new (but soulless) Terminator, Star Trek and Star War movies/series.
T1 one was like a love story wrapped in a sci fi slasher and T2 basically used the premise of a futuristic assassin as a jumping off point to branch out and tell a story about a robot learning the value of human life. Each (good) film uses the same framework but subverts it with a new theme or angle. I love the Terminator world but they really need to try something new if they want to keep the franchise alive. This one did nothing.
I felt T2 was a little too much like T1 but somehow it worked perfectly.. Even though I never understood how the purebred liquid terminator by Kyles definition would be able to travel in time.. From that point on it should have been purely been films about John & Reese vs skynet leading up to the point that lead to the events of the first T800 being sent back.. They were trying to make all that happen when they introduced T4 but many then bitched about it saying “oh but it’s not like the first two..” In a way retrospectively it’s those people’s fault what happened with DF..
What the hell is the point of the first two films then? Especially the second! So basically Sarah could have thrown John Connor to the wolves so long as they destroyed cyberdyne systems! James Cameron is such a hypocrite and a senile bastard. For decades he complained about the way Newt and Hicks were killed in Alien 3 only to do something worse and kill off the pivotal main character which is John Connor in his own franchise. What he did is worse because that would be like killing Ripley! Screw James Cameron and avatar 2 through 15! This makes T3 and Salvation look like classics.
Edward Elric, It's Soooooooo Fuckin Annoying About John Connor & Cameron Giving Fincher Shit About Hicks & Newt!!!! At The End Of The Day Cameron Put His Name To This!!!
Everything you said is true of course, but I would argue that Sarah is the main character of the movies more than John. At least for the first two movies. John is obviously important in T3 and Salvation, less so in Genesys or however they spelled it. That being said, I think them doing this is more the story saying, technology will always evolve, and will always outpace us in the end etc. Basically, its T3's version of judgement day, that its unavoidable no matter what you do.
They stopped judgement day, they succeeded, although I wish they could have handled his departure better, it makes total sense that his character is no longer needed in a way, otherwise everyone would complain that it is the same story about saving John blablabla and everything is a rehash regardless, then others want to see the war but we already know how that ends in all timelines so what's the point? the only thing new that could be added is if Skynet or Legion wins in total, but then the same crybabies will complain that it is too dark and too "lazy" or whatever which in turn makes these movies boring becayse it is predictable when the "heroes" always win
@@sperrin I know it is but on the other hand, anything that happened in T2 would be worthless if judgement day happened in the same way despite their effort. I personally don't really have an issue with him dying more than the way they handled it, could have handled it much better imo. I guess partially at least, they wanted Furlong to be John but since he's not exactly "fit" today, they would have had to put a lot of money into making the Digital John all the way. My issue in the end isn't even of who is what, but the way the final third of the movie went, it went full Genysis bullshit over the top action that is just unrealistic compared to the first two movies and that realism is what makes the first two masterpieces.
The point of the two films is we control our own destiny. There is NO FATE. We have free will and can choose our path in life. The reason T3 is hated by Cameron is it basically supported the fact that John had no choice in his future. That he HAD a destiny and couldn't avoid it. Life isn't some script we are following. There is no inevitable destination for each of us. We are not born with a preset destiny. We have free will. Every choice we make decides the future. The future is in our hands alone, not written in the stars and unavoidable. The problem is really. WE as individuals don't have a destiny but without changing SOCIETY, there will still be predictable problems we can't avoid. An AI would learn not just from what we teach but from what we as a collective do. We also are a fearful society and will attempt to kill what we don't understand (Skynet became aware and humans tried to PULL THE PLUG; so it fought back).
I think it would have been interesting to include John as a useless drifter... that’s an interesting concept: the savior of humanity is useless if the catastrophe doesn’t happen. As for Dani, they undercut the time paradox - she only seems to become a leader because of the events of this film... but that’s not really worked with. What about the idea that a future war seems to be coming anyway, no matter what they do? Isn’t that a cool concept to work with? The terror of inevitability... but the movie doesn’t nothing... too afraid to try something interesting. Alas, it’s a safe and entertaining film, but not at all memorable but for the controversial decision in the opening scene.
It will bomb hard. Salvation and Genisys made some money back. They should use these movies as start of trilogy. This will never get sequel. And that is good because Legion future is bland and boring. It is fine Terminator action. But as part of series it is worst movie from all of them.
@@jimcameron1234 It is not even realy Terminator movie at this point. I am glad i didn't see it in cinema. T3 may be worse. But no way this is better than Salvation.
They can’t make us cry at T2 then kill the main character arguably in the franchise within the first minute of the sequel!!! What a load of crap, movie was awful and screams cash grab. RIP Terminator sequels. 1 & 2 is ALL you need.
Craig Straight White Men are persona non grata in today’s Hollywood propaganda. You can have straight white male heroes anymore. They all end up castrated, comic relief, or dead to make room for “Stronk Wahmens.”
remeber when they did this in alien 3? killing hicks and newt in the opening, screwing over james camerons work like that. how poetic that t:df does that to john connor
It’s terrible, dull, unimaginative, effects are horrid, killing off John Connor was a bad idea. As for the introduction of Arnold, it’s awful. Nothing in camera.
Appy Ammer - Im totally with you buddy, dont forget to mention animal like Terminators with tentacles and Legion's endless sci-fi skyscrapers. They ruined the movie, at this point I dont even want any other future war movie, even if they could did it, because it wouldn't be the future war as we all loved so much.
@Jonathan Bowen I thought it was the biggest insult to Terminator, with John Connor being killed just to be replaced by a generic character, and they had the audacity to make the T-800 a house-robot. I wanted to get out of the theater, but I forced myself to tkae that as a parody. T3 and Salvation are leagues better than that garbage.
It was just horrible, like their are times when you just have to leave a license alone from more sequels after the actors are too old or when you lose the idea of the originals. Companies will never realize this and continue to take advantage of popular licenses while at the same time pissing off the fanbase or straight up vilifying the fans.
"like their are times when you just have to leave a license alone from more sequels" This really should be the default thinking in Hollywood. Movies should be stand-alone stories. They shouldn't be vehicles that automatically set up franchises and sequels. Terminator 1 and 2 are great because they were made as unique stories that started and ended with themselves. Cameron wrapped up the "franchise" with the second story. That was it. It was done. He only did a second one because he had another story to tell. Hollywood has gotten us used to expecting stories to continue and continue and continue in franchises and trilogies, etc., milking things until they are beyond worn to the bone. And there is less and less talent and care being put into creating these formulaic sequelogies. Most of it is playing on nostalgia of things that came before in continuing this stuff, or rebooting things then continuing them again, until they die off, then rebooting again... A large chunk of it is also that Hollywood tried to be everything to please the world audience, China and others, which plays into the formulaic and terrible decisions.
I haven't seen this film and have no intention of doing so. It seems to me that they are doing the same thing as with SW; out with the old, in with the new, making the whole concept of John Connor being the savoir of mankind pretty much redundant. If they want to establish new characters that people can get behind then they need to be a bit more creative and think of new concepts instead of shitting on beloved franchises that many people grew up with. They are obsessed with the "strong female protagonist," well I can't think of a better example than Sarah Connor. Trouble is she was strong in a feminine way, she was maternal and fought to protect her son. Modern Hollywood seems to be very much against such outdated concepts like the traditional family.
Illuminati is ruining culture. It is void of creativity it is their downfall people know it's crap.. all just to push their agenda which is crap. They will do to themselves what they are doing as a plan shooting themselves in the foot.. absolute true arrogance.
you said what I'm thinking better than I did. It sucks seeing films you grew up with neutered and destroyed for political correctness and woke applause
Yeah, and they try to destroy masculinity too, calling it "toxic masculinity"! Most of Hollywood and the powers that be behind it are weak, effeminate beta males and wannabe strong closet lesbians and feminists.
I would have to agree with the above statement. Why do we need a female character who is strong when the first two films have arguably the strongest women in any film. Her story arch is ACTUALLY good. Coming from a traumatic experience in the first film and then turning into a complete badass. She IS the strong female protagonist that Hollywood wishes they could still write. None of this stupid “ she’s strong because we say” bullshit. She earned her strength in the films. If I ever have a daughter I want her to look up to Sarah Conner instead of Captain Marvel.
@@ryangoldey4232 I don't believe she is the type of "strong female protagonist" Hollywood wants to write though, for the reasons stated in my initial comment.
I’ve lost faith years ago. Also, they can never capture the magic of the first two films. Arnie has gotten too old and Eddie Furlong has had drug problems. All I wanted, when two came out, was more of the dark future that t1 and t2 had. And they blew it with Salvation.
That's what the movie is actually about and for. Killing faith. Simple jon Connor aka jc has always represented Jesus and Sarah his mother who conceived him through immaculate conception(Kyle technically doesn't exist) and Jon was our savour yes? Well killing jon represents killing Jesus. This movie is about killing the male God and replacing it with a female one(the devil) .
Your reviews are the absolute best on the internet. Hands down. You do such a great job at attacking all the angles. Actors, Director, Soundtrack, etc... and the small details you give, like the brad fiedel bit, are awesome. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really feel that only after your review I can really set my expectations correctly to enjoy it as much as possible. Thanks!
@@MatticusFinch1820 well I don't really expect it to be a James Cameron movie, or as good as T2. I don't think I can just not watch it at all. I'll watch it with low expectations. I can handle it.
Disagree. There's PLENTY they could do with this franchise and the Terminator universe without John Connor. That being said, killing him off on screen in the first few minutes of the film is probably the single stupidest thing they could have done.
@@shodancat1000 I wouldn't of minded if they wanted to focus on other people in his army. But John should always be the main part of the human resistance.
I just watched his retrospective on T3, where you could hear he was really hating the movie for disrespecting T2. Here you have a T-800 changing diapers, a John Connor being killed ala Alien 3 with no respect for his character, the same rehash plot ( literally a poorly disguised reboot with John being replaced by a bland character ), a generic direction and an overuse of CGI. Even what they try to pass as somethin new is just taken from the other Terminator movies. Thankfully, it is a disaster at the box-office, and Doctor Sleep is gonna take over next week. I'm hoping Hollywood will get it in their head to stop digging an ever growing hole for the Terminator franchise.
that disappoints me as a fan of Junkie XL. I have enjoyed his work as far back as that awesome Elvis remix he did. TBF I feel on paper the terminator sequels had decent composers, but Brad Fiedel has never been matched, and the rest have been middle of the road big blockbuster stuff.
How is that one clip of the future war from T2 still more visually rich, dynamic and tactile than anything produced in the 28 years since. The mind truly boggles.
I think it's a combination of Cameron's tyrannical cinematic genius and the fact that nobody gave an actual shit about the soulless, repetitive cashgrabs that came after.
That movie had the potential to take the franchise in a new direction! But ultimately it went too serious and ended up getting side tracked from the John Connor story and focused on the creation of the new Terminator infiltration unit.
As time goes on I respect it more. Salvation feels like a $200 million blockbuster through and through if nothing else, with every dollar on the screen. Genisys felt cheap and rough around the edges in comparison, and Dark Fate looks similarly meh.
@Farin Vacation it's a long time to leave to make a sequel, same with 2049, things are so different that it's hard to make then resemble the first. My beef is they put too many Easter eggs in and it jsut becomes self referential.
@Farin Vacation 3rd film is usually a dud, especially if you've had a Dark Knight for a second movie. Bourne is another example of third movie failings and just replaying number 2
@Jonathan Bowen yeah well, in 50 years weve had a load of movies about AI, how many of them have been great movies, not many, and I couldnt really care less about your scientific ideas as at this point in time it amounts to zero
OJ Simpson was going to be the original Terminator, but Cameron obviously went with Schwarzenegger. Given that we've seen Hispanic-looking Terminators, white Terminators, Asian-looking Terminators....I'm sure there are black-looking Terminators out there.
This could’ve easily been one the most successful movie franchises in history if done right, but instead we get 30 years of the same story retold because Hollywood just refuses to invest into new ideas. SMH
It's a bit of a shame that Brad Fiedel wasn't asked to return to work his magic. He wouldn't have to learn much though, he's got a proper gift for making amazing music, the light and dark sort. I'm sort of mixed with this film but I do want to see it. The idea of the T-800 going against his programming is brilliant. It's kind of like a machine going against the grain. Just a shame that even films like this Terminator, has pretty much abandoned and neglected practical effects. Bit sad because it's one thing that's really iconic and timeless about the first film. Great review Ollie. Can't wait to watch your documentary buddy.
I agree...but I also think if true fans of any franchise could have been in power to make movies that line up as canon in a common sense way, there could have been 20 great Star Wars films or 20 great terminator films. The problem is ever studio is trying to make a buck, and nothing else. They don't care if the movie is actually good. It feels like a great loss to me as a movie fan. I remember seeing T2 in the theaters in the early 90s (also The Matrix in 1999), and so I knew it was possible to make a fresh and exciting movie that was ahead of its time. So we must know it is still possible now. But identity politics and past their prime actors and bored creative forces leave us with subpar content.
Then explain to me why TFA made so much money at the box office, oh and TLJ? Both made over $1B finishing their run despite critics saying they both sucked.... I see TDF ending at $600M

Even the shill media is worried about rise of shitwalker now that the public has found out disney likes to buy ticket sales for their own movies to exaggerate their profits one year they falsely reported 6b profit. I doubt star wars has even made back what they spent to get the rights to it. The toy sales are doing awful not even collectors buy them, the games aren't doing as well as they used to cause EA's bs practices, Comics in general aren't making money especially Marvel so I doubt the star wars comics are making profit. T3: Let's just make John die in the future and his wife takes charge. TG: what if we make John the bad guy? TDF: I'm gonna end this man's whole career!
Tim Miller apparently forgot the in the original Terminator movie the ONLY REASON Skynet sent a T-800 back in time was because it was about to loose to the human resistance led by John Connor and sending the T-800 was a last ditch move.
Oliver's review is very accurate and fair. I thought the movie was entertaining. It wasn't a great movie by any means, and it also wasn't as 'bad' as I feared it would be. I didn't like the little jabs at identity politics, but they weren't as heavy handed as some films. I'd also give it about a 3 out of 5. There will probably never be another great Terminator movie with Arnold in it, unless they do some de-aging and deep fake technology.
Killing John Conner was the biggest mistake. It nullifies everything that went on before. Just like Alien 3 killed the franchise by killing off all the survivors of the second movie.
SCC was good. Better than most of the films. It was well received then and now. The only problem is hardly anyone watched it as it was too slow and cerebral so it got canned. If it came out now on streaming it would do really well probably.
Terminator 3 was a relatively good movie, they should just have followed on from that. Salvation was OK but was still lacking in many areas. But meh, I don't care anymore, if I wanna watch good Terminator movies I'll just watch T1 and 2.
Finally a review that focuses on the movie and not the agenda that this movie is 'apparently' pushing. This is a review that makes me intrigued. Great review.
T6: dark fate, tried to pull a T3, played it safe with a T2 Formula, Copied Genesys, with the new rev 9 subplot...when it didn't have to. Once again for the 4th time, it tried to reboot the franchise, by copying every terminator that happened previously...and played it safe. They should kept John alive like T3 but instead pulled a last jedi and killed him off on arrival. Tim Miller should of based the story after Salvation...As everything from T 1-4 was acceptable...T3 set things up for Salvation, which Kate Brewster was an interesting addition to the character arcs...with her dad being the general to iniciate Skynet...and Bryce Dallas Howard was great in salvation...Tim Miller should of rehired the cast from salvation and brought back Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor at least one last time, it would of been a banger. Terminator needs to go the Salvation route, and dig up fresh ideas, and leave the T2 copy and paste formula in the past....Terminator needs to go back to the Future War...They should bring bale and Worthington back...Another thing Kate was prego in Salvation, so was that Reese in the oven? Or another chosen one? As we all know reese was a teenager in salvation when he meets John connor...? 🤔🤔🤔. The cast from dark fate lacked, Linda Hamilton and Swartzenegger, and the guy who plays rev9 was the best thing of dark fate. But its safe to say at this point ahnold is not really that necessary...but Sarah Connor should make another appearance even if its one last time. Please base T7 after Terminator Salvation (T4)....
There is only like 1% feminist propaganda in this film, just like with Captain Marvel. It's the media and the marketing teams that want to make you think that it's Social Justice, but movie studios just want to make money.
Out of all the reviews for this film, I have to say Oliver yours is by the best. Very objective not trashing the film but at the same time not sucking up like other reviewers. Your review actually has me intrigued about seeing this movie as it sounds like its halfway decent. I notice you haven't mentioned Skynet or John Conner which were the important elements in the previous movies.
Exactly, I just came back from watching the movie and boy was it horrible. For it to have a £200m budget it felt like it was suited for TV series. I didnt feel connected to the characters, the sound track was awful, the villan was forgettable, arnie is just too old... Man what a waste of time
@@Horrormaster13 The franchise was destroyed with T2 yes. That 'sequel' messed everything up. But the storyline really did end with the first film, T2 was just a superfluous mess.

I absolutely LOVED Dark Fate! 🤗 It’s not only hands down the best Terminator film since T2- but in some aspects it surpasses T2; I personally just could never get over Furlong playing John so whiny/petulant in T2. [Due to personal issues] I was unable to see Dark Fate in the theater; but as soon as I could- I watched it on home video. I hate that the film wasn’t a huge financial success; because it absolutely deserved to be. It not only pays homage to what came before- but delivers something new while also being able to stand on its own. I’d have loved to have seen a sequel follow-up to the film. I always felt that [for the Terminator franchise to be successful] they needed to move past Sarah and John Connor- which Dark Fate does effectively while paying tribute to the characters [which is not an easy feat]. Oh well. Que sera sera. Cheers! 🍻
I’m long fan of the franchise and I personally love every single movie, T1, T2, T3, Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate. I will always love this franchise because it helped me through most difficult times in my life. These films give me joy and happiness.
I thought it was a competently made film with decent acting. What let it down is the same thing that let's down most Hollywood blockbusters these days - the script. The film had nothing new to say. It essentially made T1&2 pointless.

I don’t understand how people can say this isn’t a God awful film! There is literally no story, nothing original whatsoever in anyway and the character of Danny is completely unlikable! It is the worst terminator film so far. At least salvation, as average as it was, had some originality about it.
Oliver, I love watching your reviews. They are superior to every other film review I have watched on RUclips. They have got me through some very lonely nights indoors. Keep up the good work man.
Respect your review. You know your Terminator films. I feel like sequels shouldn't even be attempted unless they're going to be on a masterpiece level. The first two broke so much new ground and were both innovative. I also sorely miss the horror elements. The Terminator should be frightening and relentless. Still, I'll give it a watch when it hits the US.
I always dreamed of seeing a movie based on the further future war. similar to the game where you play as the t800 that travels into the future, and goes back to the past
I find it disheartening how there's a lack of directors who can make deep, meaningful blockbusters. James Cameron, and Steven Spielberg (in his prime) seem to be the only two masters of the art. Christopher Nolan might be near that level, but I think his films still aren't as classic as films by those other two directors. In the 2010s we've had virtually no blockbusters that I would consider classics. Sure, there are a lot of entertaining comic book movies, but none have the depth and resonance that films like Jurassic Park and T2 have had. I wonder Oliver, have you seen any up-and-coming directors who might get there one day?
agreed. comic book blockbusters don't cut it for me. what was the last non-franchise blockbuster that was both awesome and meaningful/thoughtful/poignant? inception comes to mind, but that was 9 years ago!
I will write the same that I wrote for Rambo review. Movies just suck today. They are the shape of our society, and its just money grab at this point without a good story or acting, just blastiiingggg...

@@C1418OS I believe they didn't fail to be creative, because I think they didn't even try. It was all about their social ideology. This movie was a just a vehicle with a famous tag name.
I found it kind of bizarre to be honest. **Spoilers** The film makes a very conscious effort to dunk on any male characters any chance it gets, not just in action but dialogue. John Connor, shot dead in the first 3 minutes, Danis brother, obliterated in the car, the T-800, self sacrifice, which in the T-800 case was alright enough, but then you take scenes of exposition where the dialogue is literally "your not going to give birth to some MAN" Grace says with extra distain on the word man. Then Sarah says "your john connor" like literally thats the dialogue 1 to 1. Its just so obvious and hit me over the head with 'the wahmens are takin over now so move over white male' kind of tone to it in parts. I don't try to look for stuff like that, but that's the repeated message that I took away from its own actions and words. I dont think I was reading into it, as I just don't care that much about this film besides a basic action flick. Then there's the character of Grace which very much pushes a pro genderless transhumanist message which I wouldn't think much of if the movie wasn't already giving me weird political messaging vibes with its not so subtle gender politics sprinkled all over the place. and it can be frankly pretty tone deaf in areas. So overall I just got this basically uncomfortable vibe from the whole thing because it kept jabbing these messages at me with no real purpose for any of it narratively, it all just kind of happens to happen the way it does and none of it really feels satisfying or particularly coherent from beginning middle to end. It's more like they just fill every crack with action and every purpose with identity politics. That's it.
How can Cameron say Aliens 3 got it Wrong by killing Hicks & Newt!!!! Then put His Name to This, when John Connor Gets Killed In The 1st Minute!!!!??? But saying that it's Not That Bad Action Wise & The Actor playing Grace IS Really Good!!! Now Give Us A Film Set In The Future (Like We See In T1, T2!?!?) with Laser Guns Etc!!??

I know that Terminator Genesys and this new one, plus the new Star Wars movies and Star Trek Series make us think that those of the past aint that bad. But they are.
I honestly think Salvation is alright as a standalone post Judgement Day alternative reality film. At least it had better effects than Genisys.
The Black Skulls it is. Just because a new movie sucks doesn’t make an older one that also sucks better
I loved every Terminator film..1 & 2 are masterpieces.
I love T3: Rise of the Machines but it gets a lot of hate it does not deserve..Salvation & Genisys were good popcorn flicks
The Terminator series ended with T2.
It did really. Everything subsequent just takes away from the greatness of what we had then
no it should totally continue in the judgment days future Wars
is just sadly the others movies haven't done the proper justice to it
despite the fact that i like Salvation which attempted part of the future war
John Connor went on to become a Senator and have a daughter the end.
Bullshit.
yeah honestly nothing will ever compare to the way the future war was showed in the original Terminator as Kyle reese
it had this unique type of dread and a very apocalyptic epic sci fi that sadly we will never see again in any other movie
but at the same time
i thought the future looked and felt desolated in salvation
i guess something about it did felt very judgment day to me
but you are right, Terminator needs to be as dark and scary as it can possibly be
fuck really love Terminator as a whole
mostly cos Kyle reese is one of my personal most dearest soldeir-hero of all times
No more terminator movies. They're too predictable , boring and continue to rehash old idea's. Just stop or focus on the future war
Or just make something different without an old logo
Salvation tried future war but it failed, i Just want a movie set in the wasteland that has nothing to do with John, Sara, Arnold.
Fans of this franchise are:
1) Too fucken dumb
2) Still wearing nostalgia glasses
mgloco88, Same With Predator, Alien & Star Wars!!! Start Over!!!!
Totally agreed. It's an abomination
Blame late stage capitalism
You are absolutely right. If I could, I will give you 1000 likes
Saving John Connor was the whole point. How is killing him off in the first few minutes any kind of return to the roots of the franchise?
They stopped judgement day, they succeeded, although I wish they could have handled his departure better, it makes total sense that his character is no longer needed in a way, otherwise everyone would complain that it is the same story about saving John blablabla and everything is a rehash regardless, then others want to see the war but we already know how that ends in all timelines so what's the point? the only thing new that could be added is if Skynet or Legion wins in total, but then the same crybabies will complain that it is too dark and too "lazy" or whatever which in turn makes these movies boring becayse it is predictable when the "heroes" always win
@@DarknessIsThePath It is the same story of saving John, they just swapped John for a Mexican girl.
@@DarknessIsThePath I bet Furlong would have been too lazy to get fit anyway.
Yeah this movie sucked hard, sidelining Arnold to a side character and killing John Conner in the first few minutes, terrible
@@fgdj2000 Well put.
A budget of 200 million?! Damn! Add marketing onto that and I just can’t see this making its cost back. So it’ll be wrote off as a bomb.
It will bomb hard. Salvation and Genisys made some money back. They should use these movies as start of trilogy. This will never get sequel. And that is good because Legion future is bland and boring. It is fine Terminator action. But as part of series it is worst movie from all of them.

John Kenobi Id this movie does well in the next one Arnie will be in an old person’s home crapping his pants
@@kimnorth7060 If this movie does well, it will validate everything wrong with Hollywood today.
It was just horrible, like their are times when you just have to leave a license alone from more sequels after the actors are too old or when you lose the idea of the originals. Companies will never realize this and continue to take advantage of popular licenses while at the same time pissing off the fanbase or straight up vilifying the fans.
The latter is the truest when it comes to this. Rushed scripts, bad dialouge equal a poorly written sequel tbh.
When and where did you see it??!?
Best T Film since T2 = period
@@TheHylden Manga writers are better at this. They tell a story and then its done. No reboots due to bad writing.

Agreed

I agree that Salvation is an underrated movie.
That movie had the potential to take the franchise in a new direction! But ultimately it went too serious and ended up getting side tracked from the John Connor story and focused on the creation of the new Terminator infiltration unit.
Felt like studio interference
As time goes on I respect it more. Salvation feels like a $200 million blockbuster through and through if nothing else, with every dollar on the screen. Genisys felt cheap and rough around the edges in comparison, and Dark Fate looks similarly meh.

The endoskeleton with liquid metal skin is also a lift, from T3.
True, but she couldn't seperate the two elements to become two terminators.
I'd like to see a prequel to T1. All the events leading to sending the 1st Terminator and John Connor.
In a way... Salvation IS that Prequel. It's the only sequel in cinema history that is also, chronologically, a prequel!
This doesn't even look close to Terminator Salvation. This looks like it was filmed with cellphone apps.
T1 and T2 are some of the greatest movies of al time, ot was done, leave it alone. Same with Alien and Aliens, it was wrapped up and brilliantly done
@Jonathan Bowen if that's the case why are all the sequels either mediocre or completely shit. I liked 2049, it's very flawed, but so is the original
@Jonathan Bowen AI taking over has been a hot topic in movies for several decades, it's been done to death
@Jonathan Bowen yeah well, in 50 years weve had a load of movies about AI, how many of them have been great movies, not many, and I couldnt really care less about your scientific ideas as at this point in time it amounts to zero
The fun stuff is in the title. It really is a Dark Fate for Terminator
When are they going to have a black terminator?
OJ Simpson was going to be the original Terminator, but Cameron obviously went with Schwarzenegger.
Given that we've seen Hispanic-looking Terminators, white Terminators, Asian-looking Terminators....I'm sure there are black-looking Terminators out there.
That would be weird af. How about a Brown one instead?
@Gavin Townsley Don't be so ableist, the next Terminator needs to be in a wheelchair too.
To say this movie was interesting is as close to the truth as T-800 in the movie, saying "I am extremely funny".
This movie makes me love T3 even more.
When you keep rehashing a movie series it diminishes the classic ones like Star Wars or the Terminator.

Many criticized The SC Chronicles, the TV series was not bad in comparison to the T2 follow-ups...
That's funny, even then no one criticised The SC Chronicles. What weed are you smoking?
SCC was good. Better than most of the films. It was well received then and now. The only problem is hardly anyone watched it as it was too slow and cerebral so it got canned. If it came out now on streaming it would do really well probably.
Terminator 3 was a relatively good movie, they should just have followed on from that. Salvation was OK but was still lacking in many areas. But meh, I don't care anymore, if I wanna watch good Terminator movies I'll just watch T1 and 2.

Love your reviews, Oliver, as always.
Terminators are the most inefficient machines ever created
Couldn't even kill the girl in Mexico. Should have just hired the Sinaloa Cartel. They would have got her.
@@jimcolabuchanan6579 Too soon man.
@@UnifiedEntity Yea, I posted that before the massacre of those Mormon kids. Was a response to the cartels taking over Culiacan to release Chapo's son.
@@jimcolabuchanan6579 Ah ok.
This movie could’ve gone so much better if John Connor and played the role of the T-800
Just watch T1 and T2, forget the rest.
I absolutely LOVED Dark Fate! 🤗
It’s not only hands down the best Terminator film since T2- but in some aspects it surpasses T2; I personally just could never get over Furlong playing John so whiny/petulant in T2.
Its always the same characters involved. Whats going on in Canada during all this?
"Fans were intrigued."
HAHHAHAHAHAHHAAH!!!
I thought it was a competently made film with decent acting. What let it down is the same thing that let's down most Hollywood blockbusters these days - the script. The film had nothing new to say. It essentially made T1&2 pointless.
Probably be on Netflix in a year I'll watch it then and save some cash 😂😉.
Check the LBGTLMNOPQ+++ section.
Download teatv app on your phone and watch it for free now if you don't mind wasting a few hours of your life you'll never get back.
lol, dumb sheep still paying for crappy stuff that should be free. you can stream movies for free, last 10 years, just imagine how much money you threw away, lol, dummy.
Make a Terminator film showing how John first escaped the prison camps with all the other humans and starting the resistance.
Watching this movie to the end was torture. I just feel horrible for putting myself through that.
Hey Oliver, I've been struggling to find your retrospective on T5 (Genisys) Did you make one?
Terminator reached its natural end with Rise of the Machines - they should just stop
I would have liked to see a full circle story to the taking of the time portal, after that, but yes, it did feel nearly done.
Fuck this movie, why would you kill John Connor in first 5 mins.
Someone straight up walked out after the beginning scene
walked at 20 something minutes, just after sarah conner turns up on the bridge and does ill be back... i regret nothing
Hey Oliver, what ever happened to the dvd that was supposed to release in April, I’m still waiting for my copy or was it £35 I’ll never see again.
Have you kept up to date with the updates on the Kickstarter or Indiegogo page?
@@OliverHarper Sorry Mate, No I haven't, I kinda forgot about it, I paid for it 2017 so it's understandable. Also on a different subject did You see Gemini Man in HFR and if so what do you think, I mean the film was OK but the experience was visceral
I walked out the second they killed John Connor.
AMEN!! That was blasphemy. I saw this crap movie on a pirate torrent thank god but that scene was like shooting my 12 year old self. Way to go Hollywood. Fuck this movie.
No you didn’t. It was well known that his character was killed off at the start. You went to the movie knowing this and walked out when it happened, stop being a drama queen.
@@leecroft1983 look the bitch wants attention, then prove i didnt or stfu
If you didn't know that was gonna happen, you're stupid.
All I got to ask is... is there a title sequence with The Terminator march? Never mind I saw it last week.
Well, it is pretty much the filmakers fault. He called out the fans and well, here we are now. Wasn't planning to watch it but thanks a lot for your insight!
I don’t understand how people can say this isn’t a God awful film! There is literally no story, nothing original whatsoever in anyway and the character of Danny is completely unlikable!
It is the worst terminator film so far. At least salvation, as average as it was, had some originality about it.
I need to watch T3 after this to clear my eyes
We need a Genisys retro from you
I can change Diapers VERY efficiently and without any complaints! Im reliable,a very good Listener and i am EXTREMLY Funny! The Terminator 2019
Oliver, I love watching your reviews. They are superior to every other film review I have watched on RUclips. They have got me through some very lonely nights indoors. Keep up the good work man.
Four sequels to Avatar? If that isn't proof of idiocracy, I don't know what is.
List of Terminator movies I'll never watch is getting pretty long....
A pleasant surprise from you having it reviewed so soon. Good stuff.
I will write the same that I wrote for Rambo review. Movies just suck today. They are the shape of our society, and its just money grab at this point without a good story or acting, just blastiiingggg...
Modern film fans love to demonstrate a failure to show appreciation. A24 got your back.

Honestly, say what you want about what happens with the Terminator "Carl" in this film, but I felt that his character evolution was the only one that felt natural in this film.
Spot-on Oliver! 👍
At this point I’m just hoping Terminator Resistance gives us something good of a storyline.
It doesn't go too far....John Connor?
Shame Brad is retired and was never brought back after T2. I still remember his music today, it was so good.
Seems like a parody of all the past films.
an actual film review that isn't biased, WOW what a shocker.
This movie is poisoned with political ideology.
Yep, this movie is a disgusting cash grab. I'm so tired of these uninspired movies. I guess they think if they throw in enough badass men with vaginas they'll draw an audience. The sad part is, it actually works to a limited extent.
@@C1418OS I believe they didn't fail to be creative, because I think they didn't even try. It was all about their social ideology. This movie was a just a vehicle with a famous tag name.
I've never been so pissed off at the start of a film
Not enough hallways that go nowhere 2/10
I found it kind of bizarre to be honest.
**Spoilers**
The film makes a very conscious effort to dunk on any male characters any chance it gets, not just in action but dialogue.
That's it.
Had to stop watching after John was killed. Awful decision to kill him off.
