    My two conures escaped last month, one came back after 2 hours and the other was found within 5 hours, got them both back on one very cold day. Remember if you birdie does escape, the local social media (local groups and not just bird groups) will be a massive help with finding your birdies. Mine are not free flyers, they had a great adventure and made it back in one piece. The things I leant was get help, stay local (mine were back and forth within 500m of my house) and use all resources inc social media.

    I live through people like you, I really been a fan of parrots since I was little and I have pictures with a bunch of macaws when I went to Disneyland there was a man there with his macaws, I had to pay ten dollars to hold three macaws and take pictures with them but that money goes towards their care so I didn't hesitate to support. I really want to work at a rescue and there is one 8 miles away from my house, they say that donations have gone down 80 percent since covid and the people that run the rescue can't have people volunteer insight because of their immune system, any who I just love these beautiful birds. I really hope to make a difference in ones life even if it's not living in my own home I still want to volunteer and learn to care for one and give one love

    I've done the training with Liberty Wings - Chris Biro
    I think it's very telling that I know most of the others offering free flight training learnt from Chris.
    everyone I know who does free fly learnt from Chris in Aus over Skype
    Haven't even got my parrot yet wanted to do the course first and very glad I did, learnt a lot that will influence my choice. My advice go to the best (most of the others did).

      Aww amazing you are so prepared.

    • @ParrotVolancy
      @ParrotVolancy 4 года назад

      I also took Chris' course. I think there are some adaptations to his location selection system that are important for many smaller species. The same goes if you live in a very predator-heavy environment like Australia. (I say this because I have so many friends in Australia who have adapted it.) My advice to people with small birds (or obscure species) who take his course is to also reach out to people flying the same species to learn about any particulars Chris may not have covered.

I was lucky that all went well somehow and now she’s a very successful free-Flyers, without using treats, basing everything on bond.

    i am dutch and live in the Netherlands. I dont have a bird yet. in the past i had cockatiels, sun conures, ringnecks and quaker parrots. i want to adopt a bird from a rescue wich i will take a look at soon. My previous birds never flew outside, but flew perfectly inside without mistakes, they also came back when i called them.. I definitely want to have my bird fly outside. i never knew we had free-flight trainers in the Netherlands, information is hard to find on that. Kromsnavel vrienden (wich you said totally wrong, but i can forgive you for it since you are not dutch) seems right for me as she wants to work with older birds aswell. Can a green cheek conure be free flighted? I find that because they are smaller they are a lot more panicky and no matter how much they trust you they will still fly off if they are spooked. I’d love to be able to free flight my gcc but I don’t wanna risk him ever flying away... for now I’ve been using a harness...

    • @ParrotVolancy
      @ParrotVolancy 4 года назад +1

      I free-fly four of them. A lot of people free-fly them, actually. Despite spooking easily, they also recover from being spooked easily. They definitely don't just "fly off", haha. They tend to stick very close in flight. All the same, there is a lot of preparation and training that goes into free flight, and flying two or more small birds means more protection from predators.

    Better to not make ur freefly bird to friendly with strangers, one of my friends harlequin macaw got lost while free flying. The macaw flew to a car workshop, some guy saw the bird and claimed he was the owner. The car workshop owner does not know how to make verification, proceed to hand the bird over to him. Police report made and all his actions got caught on cctv but not clear enough to identify his face. The harlequin is okay with anyone as in like anyone to hold him. Which made it easy from him to get stolen

      Yes of course an overly socialised free flighted bird is never a good idea.

    Are there no courses in Uk? I really would love to free fly my birds - I have a 3 yrs old OWA who goes out on a harness and recently took on the most gorgeous 2 yr old boy militant (sorry military!! lol!) macaw. Sadly he has been previously clipped but would love some hints and tips on how I can start some kind of basic initial training with him. ONly had him 5 weeks and he is very lovey - and nippy all at the same time!! Have no idea where to start!! x

      Where are are you? Most of the trainers in this video run online courses which is how most learn, or there is Chucky in london who has parrots of primrose on Instagram who does free flight training, and also there is a new trainer in Birmingham named Paul who has Paul, flo and flix on Instagram

      @@MikeyTheMacaw Hi honey - thanks for the reply. I am in Gloucester - unfortunately my mobility is not the best and can't travel too far but Birmingham sounds ok-ish!! Don't do Instagram - far too technological for me!! LOL!! Is he on FB? I have joined the 2 groups you suggested and asked if anyone this side of the country free-flies but sadly no response. A few of the free fliers from the other side of London I know via FB and met at the last 'real' parrot show (think i might have met you too - i was weird old bag with dreads, wheelchair and OWA in backpack traveler!) What age of bird do you class as baby/ young? Sid (macaw) is just 2 and am assuming his clip was done when he was a baby as he has just moulted one of them!! YAY!!

      You can train at any age. Mikey first free few when he was 3. Book an online course and see how you go. Free flying is not done with a step by step tutorial. You will need to book a course with a professional trainer or experienced mentor. There’s around 20 hours of knowledge to learn and it can take you around 3-6 months. This video will help find a trainer ruclips.net/video/kBCiUwtcORA/видео.html

      There are some small bird free-flyers in Scotland, including cockatiels. :] You should join the Facebook group Parrot Harness & Free Flight UK.

And I have one cockatiel which is white faced cinonim pearl and he is called oreo he is 7 moths old or 8 he has been with me since April and he can do recall but he will do it when he wants to even if I'm holding a treat so sometimes he is not sure and I'm just worried if that's his personality or something and ( you don't need to awser the questions) ;)

    Quick question- Does it matter where you live for getting a parrot? While I'm not considering getting a bird, other people might think about, for example, is the UK, and other countries, suitable for a parrot?

    • @ParrotVolancy
      @ParrotVolancy 4 года назад

      Sure, there are loads of people with parrots in the UK, including the authors of this video!

    • @MikeyTheMacaw

      Yes of course, I mean unless you live in like the North Pole, most people can accommodate birds
