So my carer took me out for the day (I have lung disease) and we went to a garden centre which also sells pets. They had a Caique in a large cage - so I bought it. I knew nothing of parrots, although I do now. I am still struggling to understand how they packed so much personality into one tiny bird. He has made an excellent housemate and we get along fine. I love him to bits.
This video was amazing. I've never seen a training video with a caique so when my caique started running around and was very difficult for me to train I thought it was something I was doing wrong. But turns out every caique is just super hyper and runs around.
Chichis energy level is amazing and he seems very smart and willing to learn, I look forward to seeing more of what he can do!!! Great job explaining it all!!!!!
You are an amazing person, I'm going through medical stuff and some horrible awful stuff with my youngest son, I can't help him n it's the most horrible thing I've ever gone thru, before I got sick I rode hunters n jumpers, I've ridden my entire life so I understand that bond, watching u with your birds has been really emotional for me, esp Morgan, so I want to say thank you for sharing your birds with us, sending love and hugs
I fell in love with this channel, with your way of explaining, your relationship with birds, your daughter, just everything. The thing I love the most tho is your honesty about getting birds, often suggesting NOT to have them because it could not work out since it takes so much work and patience. Keep it up,love you❤️
Yes, they do require a lot of attention. They love their people. Crayola loves music, so she'll rock on her tableside perch to the beat of the music on shows like The Voice or American Idol. She often tries to whistle to the tune. She's an awesome buddy ❤️
I want to thank you sooo much for your videos, I have been watching your videos on how to train birds and they have been invaluable. I am bringing a Caique in to my home as our newest family members in a week.... and I am so looking forward to using your tips!
I used capturing for my quaker and the step up trick to teach my greencheek she learned it in 5 minutes. It was so cute! Now it's their favorite trick like a dog doing shake all the time begging for treats.
Ok so.... you were so cute in this video. I love that you are just yourself, distractions and all. I could seriously learn anything from you! You guys are great. Keep up the good work!
great video great advice but i was just laughing the whole time because that little guy is SO filled with energy and curiosity and mischief. He is just so stinking CUTE!
I love your video so much!! i’m preparing myself by learning as much as I can before I get my caique. i had a rescue moustache parakeet and it was a feisty one.. People who owns a parakeet told me not to foster the parakeet as I have.no experience with birds but i proved them wrong and I manage to take care of the parakeet until it had grown stronger and allow it to fly away when she was ready to go.. and i’m kind of missing having a bird and I do like caiques and had done some research about caiques and now i’m more than ready to own one..
I'm so glad this video is up! Link, my green cheek, learned to spin perfectly in a session and a half. And we've been working on the wave off and on for weeks, and nothing... So excited to try the floor with him! I can see that working waay better for my spazzy conure.
Every black headed caique I have ever met is just like ChiChi. They're all super cute, super fun, super distracting, and super ADHD! Great little birds. Every time ChiChi would purr in the video my 3 would all purr in reply.
Totally apart from how completely adorable Chichi is, I love the first part of this video when Dave and Jamieleigh are both on the ground and Dave smiles at Jamieleigh -- this is a couple who is still in love!!
So nice to see their cat is chill with a bird being out. Two of ours I religiously keep away from my bird when he' out because they're too unpredictable and might attack. The others just require I keep my eye on him and always within reach.
Same! One of our cats was a stray and knows bird = food, so she is kept away. My oldest cat used to be a great and enthusiastic hunter or flies, but old age and arthritis are slowing her down now. So unless she's in a playful mood... she's alright. Gotta panic is my bird happens to go close though, as her reflexes are excellent.
This video was great help! I was struggling with my red belly on the wave for a lot of the same reasons (her speed, beak first step up (different video), slow clicking) It kept going so bad, like her almost falling when I tried to pull away, and she was so discouraged that I stopped and started working on a hop instead. I placed my hand much lower this morning and was able to get the slower response which worked great!
I had a Chi Chi. She was a Love Bird. Oh how I loved that little devil girl. She even laughed like a witch! She was so mischievous. She chased my cat all over the living room. She passed away in 2007. She was 13. She had ovarian cancer😢
Luke Coolidge mine looks uber pitiful. He just hops around with wet and dragging wings and tail. It's super funny though. He likes meing blow dried, surprisingly. (Only on low, and I always keep my hand next to him so I know how warm it is on him)
KaylahDemi Yeah I know if birds get overheated or chilled it's pretty rough on them. I've only ever had a parakeet but he was a character. He liked to uh.. 'love' on these porcelain dominoes we had. He'd push them away from each other and make the rounds lol. A sweet bird but he'd try to get you if you messed with his girls :D so funny.
Luke Coolidge omg I had a pet rooster that took a liking to a yogurt container I'd previously (wasn't gonna touch that again) had his food in. I try to monitor my bird for chills after a bath and turn off all breezy things in the room. When I dry him with the blow dryer, I monitor him for overheating and usually only do it in 15-30 second spurts or less if he doesn't seem into it at that moment..
I worked in a pet store for awhile many years back. One of my first jobs actually. But I took a special liking to the birds. We had a big open perch for a bunch of different birds. A blue and gold and greenwing macaw. A couple of amazons and African grays, an umbrella cockatoo. We got 3 different white bellied Caiques while I was there. 2 as a pair and one little solo guy. I fell in love with that little dude. I've always wanted one after that but ive always had cats so I've been terrified of getting anything smaller than a cockatoo but I dont really want a bird that size... Even though I loved that blue and gold.
I was raised to say "indian style" too when sitting. Now I just say "criss cross" because adding "apple sauce" at the end is a mouth full. Love the video too lol!
I have a turquoise green cheek conure, a green quaker, and recently adopted 2 budgies (we've gotten to the point of hand friendly cuz I want my daytime cage/bedtime cage). I've had the older flocklings (I call my birbies a Flock of Pirates cuz we live on a boat) since last Sept and have made so much progress, except for the turn around and wave. The ONLY thing they do with trick training is touch the stick, but even now the quaker wants to steal it instead of touch it, I guess that could be a trick in itself? LOL Most of the "tricks" or behaviors I've gotten with them is via capturing. Capt Jack (conure) is more personable so getting him to kiss (literally) or do Bat Boy (hang upside down) has been quite easy. Sayyida (quaker named after a real female pirate) literally sits back and only wants to do Talking cues. For example, she picked up the wolf whistle quickly, so now I ask "Hey Sayyida, how do I look today?" When she responds I say Thank You! I had a fit of hiccups and she began copying me so I've been trying to get her to do it... today they BOTH Hiccup ! The new birbies, wow they are so smart. nearly have Denim sounding like R2D2 when I ask "Who is your favorite Star Wars character?" Blue, I'll ask "Are you happy?" and I swear the answer is "I could be more" They ALL tell me when it's time for bed and when it's time to wake up. I should clarify, I live on a boat with two bedrooms, they have their own bedroom as well as their bed cages & day cages. The older two are allowed out of their Salon cage (yes they have 3) which is where we do most of the trick training. NOT on the aft deck so they will let me know if they want to come back inside. And no, I don't close the door, so they COULD fly off, which Capt Jack did ONCE and Sayyida gave him a good talking to after I climbed down a hill into brambles...another story, and he's never done that again. That said, we are TRYING to learn Free Flight. Sayyida hops but Jack definitely can fly and he does when HE wants. I was doing dishes and he was so interested he had no problem flying from Salon Cage to my head LOL He's now my dishwashing partner. I've tried the harness...Sayyida REFUSES to have it anywhere near her. Jack will let me put it on him but I can tell he is none too happy. Gosh now I'm rambling. THANK YOU for your vids - I'm hoping one day I'll be able to afford your Free Flight course - not sure I want to take my budgies out where y'all go. I lose sight of them in their bedroom (Blue tends to fly when transferring her from bed cage to day cage). I want to do it for THEIR safety, if something were to happen they to come right back to me on command. OH that's what I wanted to tell you - because of your vids and the progress I've made with them, there were two CRAZY wild birds who decided they wanted to move in (they found bird food on the aft deck floor). They actually tried coming INSIDE while Jack & Sayyida were out of their Salon Cage!!!! They freaked out - Jack flew to me, Sayyida yelled for me to come get her. Teaching Free Flight, I believe is important because dangers can happen anywhere and you want them to be able to find AND get to you. Keep up the good work - Love the One Day Miracle vids as well
I wanted a Parrotlet for about 5 months and searched for them in rescues and couldn’t find one. So I am 80% sure I’m getting one of these(sorry I can’t spell their name._.) I’ve been wanting a parrot for 2 years and I’m finally getting one in a few months!!!!🥰😁
we got our little girl 3 weeks ago after our Conure passed away a few months ago & left a big hole in out lifes.. we have a cat who is fairly well behaved & a cockatiel who doesnt like other animals, just humans.. Our new baby has adapted really well & is friends with the cat now lol ill be looking at vids like this to start training & she already knows to step up then poop before leaving the cage area i know yelling will come in time but for now its just kissing sounds when she wants attention lol =)
okay im not trying to be rude but i think its funny that the bird’s name is chi chi because in spanish, chi chi means something inappropriate. but anyhow, i LOVE your bird! i have the same bird and her name is lily. she can be bery fiesty. ❤️❤️❤️
So when are you making a retail bird product: chopstick like stick with built in clicker at the base... that way it won’t slip in the hand, leaving 3 inch stick before you realize it. Give me some royalties if you make loads of money on this idea! Who wants to invest? You know tons of bird owners, new and old who need this convenient training tool. Love you guys and the birds!
I taught my cockatiel to wave by making him put one foot on my finger also. However, putting my finger futher didn't work at all or capturing the middle. It finally worked when I asked him to step up but put my finger TOO HIGH instead. So he couldn't jump. He would not get rewarded for using his beak. Wond up working but it was a long slow process.
Hi there! I just started watching your videos (yes, I subscribed 😉) and I'm hooked! I have a Parrotlet I've bonded with through speech - and bells, he can't get enough of them! LOL I can't wait to start shower training him, that's my next step. Then, descending flights. He's in a flight cage, but hasn't mastered it on his own. Do you have a video on shower training? I saw the video on descending flight you did with Morgan (I just love her)! Anyway, enough about me. One thing I noticed with Chi Chi is since he is a smaller bird, he has to eat his treats in several bites vs. one bite like the Macaws. Which means he raises his foot to hold the treat until it's gone. Could you have used that natural behavior in training him to wave?
My caique loves to be on top of my head, but she gets carried away with my hair tie and pulls on my hair (already loosing lots)… the worse part is when she rubs her beak on my scalp tends to irritate and at time scratches me. What do you recommend me to do in this case?
Hi! I’m currently looking into getting a new bird and I’ve narrowed it down to a caique or a conure ( green cheeks especially but any of them will do as I live in a country where there are very few breeders that hand-rear their birds). I’m really attracted to caiques ( and at this moment they’re more readily available) but while doing my research I’ve come across some pretty scary stuff, mostly about hormones and how around the age of 3 they become slightly devilish. I have had experience with birds and I currently own 2 African greys although I only handle one , the other is my brother’s bird and she’s a bit aggressive towards me. So basically, are all caiques prone to aggressive behaviors , if so , how can I combat it best?
Hi! Could I ask you some questions? I have 2 caiques for about 3 weeks, really cute and energetic little birds but when I let them out of the cage they just can't let go of me. They always want to be with me and when i put them on their play-spot they just come flying back to me in like 2 minutes. When they are on the ground, they'll come running back to me. Also, they are very sweet and friendly but sometimes it seems like they only know how to do bad stuff like nibbling my shirt, .. Sometimes they stop when I correct them but when they don't, I put them in the cage for about 2 minutes just to calm down for a while (like we do with toddlers, except for the cage thing :D) They are about 5 months old. Is all this because they are still very young or do I need to adjust some of my behavior towards them? Thanks and keep up the good work, i love what you do!
When your bird hit maturity at 3 to 4 years old. Does it become more territorial, aggressive and attached to just one person? I’m planning on buying one as a family pet but all the people I meet at a bird shops discourages me from buying one because of their wild nature. All my kids are teen agers already. They say they can turn on you and become wilder when they hit maturity at 3 or 4 years old. Did you experience that with your birds?
Capturing has not worked for my green cheek conure, no matter how good I am at timing my click/reward. Somehow it never occurs to my conure that the behavior I'm capturing is the one she did randomly and unconsciously. :(
I’m a fan of your channel! I keep wondering, is there an age where a bird will no longer be interested in learning or would want human interaction? For it to be tame, do I have to get a hand fed young parrot?
I have 2 caiques, the first one I got 3 1/2 years ago (best bird ever) and the other one I got half a year later from a second breeder. The second one was from the beginning terrified for human hands. ( bad breeder, was a nightmare when I picked her up, he catchend her in a net mid flying, when she tried to escape) It was hard the handle her. Now she flys on me, plays with me when I have toys in my hand and is a happy bird, she surfs on my shoulder, take food out of my hand and goes in the shower with me. But she is still so afraid from the naked human hand. Not able to touch her. I move her around on my shoulder or on a stick. Sometimes when I have a toy in my hand and she try’s to land on it, and lands on my hand, she realize it and bites me till I bleed. Do you have any advice for me? Thank you and sorry for my bad English 😅
I taught my parrot to wave by placing my finger next to his leg/tummy then he would try to grab it or step up then I use the clicker and reward him then i started doign it but farther away so he does grab my finger, it was hard but it does work wit hbigger birds liek amazons etc.
I watched your “birds for beginners” video and a lot of people say that they if you are a beginner you should not get them. I’ve been a bit confused and I’ve been wondering if you could explain a bit thank you :))
He's a real superstar always searching for attention. his so smart!! I was thinking to rescue a bird, my choices are lovebirds and caique. I understand that both are not a "beginner" parrot, but I think is more about knowing what you will expect rather choose a bird that is easy yet not loving him because in your mind you are still on the other bird. I hope you understand what I am trying to say here. So is better to have 1 or 2 birds? What are the biggest difference between a caique and a lovebird? Thank you for your sooo informative video's.
Hi there. I noticed in this video you have a cat and I am seriously considering getting a bird but im so worried about my cats. If you have any advice or information it would be highly appreciated.
I really loved this video. Especially the montage in the beginning. I think you really see Chi-Chi's personality in this one. Keep up the good work!
I thought it was super cute when Chi Chi put his head up at 11:04 😂 anyone else?
Tatiana Williams I definitely agree! Sooooo cute!😂
Tatiana Williams in slow motion kinda and everything
Amazing - even in just a couple of quick videos it's already obvious this bird has massive amounts of character.
Chi-Chi is so cute! He is a real character! His plumage looks like a little white vest and a green greatcoat with gold leggings!
I appreciate every day that we have our Caique Pepper. He is so smart and so filled with love. Caiques are the best !!!!!
Keith Graham hope you feel better
Yay!
This video was amazing. I've never seen a training video with a caique so when my caique started running around and was very difficult for me to train I thought it was something I was doing wrong. But turns out every caique is just super hyper and runs around.
He was way more mellow when he was uncomfortable around here!! 😋
Chi-Chi is so cute!...
@11:03 LOL... Who else saw his head appear like a cartoon character?!?!
I would be distracted by ChiChi too..lol. Hes a cutie and so much personality. Great training video. Thank you
Chichi is so adorable I love how easy going he is with you all
I love the way you train parrots.
Thank you!
This bird is pure comedy, man! I love these videos.
I love watching you love your birds.
Chi-chi is such a busy guy 😂
Gunning Twice Yes, 🤣 he’s like a busy beaver! 🤠

I have a 13 yr old White bellied Caique named Crayola. Love these birds!! ❤
capri is having such an amazing and enriching childhood. how lucky!
Ok so.... you were so cute in this video. I love that you are just yourself, distractions and all. I could seriously learn anything from you! You guys are great. Keep up the good work!
I love Caiques so much! I love their crazy antics and willingness to please. And not to minton they are the stinking cutest bird you will ever see!
great video great advice but i was just laughing the whole time because that little guy is SO filled with energy and curiosity and mischief. He is just so stinking CUTE!
My goodness he’s such a charming little bird I thought maybe I would get a ring neck but maybe when I’m ready for birds I’ll get one like him
Jen C i love the before you get one, where you can do tons of research and figure out what you want to adopt. It makes it exciting for me.
Jamie:hello
Comet:hello

Oh my gosh, what a cuddly bird. I'm in love
I think I've seen so many Bird Tricks videos, I've been clicker trained myself. Where's my treat, Jamieleigh? :P
He is so adorable
0:12 the world's tiniest sneeze omg 💕💕💕💕
Thank you for the update! It was very informative and enjoyable to watch!!
But, how’d you teach him to moonwalk!?! 6:20-6:22 Haha!
Hahaha!
I'm so glad this video is up! Link, my green cheek, learned to spin perfectly in a session and a half. And we've been working on the wave off and on for weeks, and nothing... So excited to try the floor with him! I can see that working waay better for my spazzy conure.

Every time ChiChi would purr in the video my 3 would all purr in reply.
11:03/04.... almost had a spit-take with my coffee. lol great video!
Never seen such beautiful eyes - and I don't mean the eyes of the caique...😊
Totally apart from how completely adorable Chichi is, I love the first part of this video when Dave and Jamieleigh are both on the ground and Dave smiles at Jamieleigh -- this is a couple who is still in love!!

Ty for this video, I have a cockatiel and most training are shown with Big birds, so thanks!
He has too much caffeine ☕️ 😂
Side note, you should never give your birds caffeine!
Summer Dream it was an expression - give kids too much sugar/caffeine etc
He’s so cuuuute
I love your videos and your birds, you do such a good job, keep up the good work. 😊😋😁

Give me some royalties if you make loads of money on this idea! Who wants to invest? You know tons of bird owners, new and old who need this convenient training tool. Love you guys and the birds!
This was a great video. (actually I love them all) What reward are you giving him? Would the same work with Budgies?
I taught my cockatiel to wave by making him put one foot on my finger also. However, putting my finger futher didn't work at all or capturing the middle. It finally worked when I asked him to step up but put my finger TOO HIGH instead. So he couldn't jump. He would not get rewarded for using his beak. Wond up working but it was a long slow process.
Birds also love your eyes 🎈🎈🎈🎈
Happiness is a cat, a parrot and a Caique in the oven. 🤣🤣🤣
I need your videos subtitled in Spanish. I love them
Beautiful
Can use a pen to click? Or do I have to use the real click thing? And where can you buy one??
What type of almonds are you giving him and where’s the clicker from?
What type of treats do you use for rewards?
I really like the stand you are using here--what is it? custom or purchase-able? I want to find something I can remove the dishes
I really like this video with the caique! Thank you so do you have almonds cut up all around the house? @BirdTricks?
Can you put a link to the capturing video with the Alexandria parakeet that you mention please?
what do you use for a treat, i am just getting started with birds and i have a Caique
Okay a question that has nothing to do with the video but...how do you know that your bird is ready to "freefly" and that it will return to you....
Hi. I saw in your videos that you do free flight with different species. Do you do it with caiques? Or you think is not a good bird to do it? Thanks
How did you introduce your Caique and cat to each other at the beginning? I have two cats at home and want to get a pair of Caique.
Is a caique or a Quaker better as a first time owner
I read that caiques get very aggressive overtime and I just want to know if it is true or not and if so can get it trained? Thank you!
Hey, I want a Caique, do you have any information that I should know first?
When your bird hit maturity at 3 to 4 years old. Does it become more territorial, aggressive and attached to just one person? I’m planning on buying one as a family pet but all the people I meet at a bird shops discourages me from buying one because of their wild nature. All my kids are teen agers already. They say they can turn on you and become wilder when they hit maturity at 3 or 4 years old. Did you experience that with your birds?
I need my Bandit boy fix, but Chi Chi helps.
AAAAAAAHH I COULDNT FIGURE OUT HOW FAST HE WAS GOING EVEN IN SLOW MO HES TOO FASSSTTTT
Have you noticed something strangely familiar about her finger at min 1:18? :-)
2 birds for sure!
Loooooooove
Hi there.
I noticed in this video you have a cat and I am seriously considering getting a bird but im so worried about my cats. If you have any advice or information it would be highly appreciated.
What temperature is the water in the shower?
