Shatner-esque pauses, dawn of time explanations, anecdotes, chronographs, meat targets, orange lung tissue, new and improved fleece bullet stops, and jacket pockets filled with ammo. What more could a man ask for?
Plus an intro that’s stood the test of time
But I didn't win a prize🤣
Pop Tarts obviously ;)
Don't forget rounds that he recovered.
Maybe some gunfire in the background? 😛
Paul. Please never skip describing the meat target. I dunno why, your rote caveats are just so endearing.

I concur wholeheartedly.
“I actually do, plan these things out just a little bit”. And that’s why we love Paul Harrell: clear, concise, germane to the topic at hand, and no BS. The best on YT.

Happy Father's Day. I lost my dad last year and I now have several 22s (and a 30-30 & 30-06) from him.

Thank you, kind sir.

Sorry for your loss.

I’d like to range with the bear noises!
I need to get a sign made for my house. “We’re on our ‘range’ today so please bear with gunfire you hear in the background”.
Seriously if he would shut up for a second we could hear it better!!!
From over 3 decades shooting Stingers, and it being popular with most of my friends, I can say it has some reputation for frustrating people when grouping on paper. It's still plenty accurate enough for things like coon hunting, but it certainly throws more flyers than some others.
Found the same. The only "Ultrasonic" 22 ammo I found to be reasonably accurate was Fiocchi and I couldn't readily find it so maybe fired 200/250 rounds of it.
Got a mag full of them in my pocket right now.
Stingers also have a slighly longer case, which is why they cant be used well in some guns and are often banned to be used in user instructions of guns
I've tried stingers in a couple of CZ452's. These two rifles are very similar, the main difference being that one has a "standard" weight barrel, the other has a varmint barrel. The standard weight barrel literally shoots dinner plate sized groups at 50 meters, but the varmint barrel shoots as straight as a laser.
I've wasted a few ten round mags trying to head shot grouse with stingers in the last couple of years. Might just be my poor shooting though.
No surprises here. Concise explanations, informative content, a dab of dry humor. Typically high quality content. Paul is more consistent than many types of 22lr ammunition!
Pauls consistency VS CCI Stingers:
"Not enough difference to make a difference"
A couple of take away's for me...
#1: I have been shooting CCI products, mainly mini-mags but also stingers, since the 70's. Reliable & consistent. I became familiar with Aguila during the pandemic. Effectively, in my area, it was the only ammo avail consistently during those couple years. I now have over 2000 rounds of each, the 40 grain, solid point, High Velocity & the 38 grain, hollow point, High Velocity. They are my GO-TO ammo for the 10-22.
#2: Just how many couches has Paul skinned to produce all those meat targets???
Livin my best La Vida Loca here in south eastern Arizona
A fan sent him a big leather couch skin years back and maybe it's still giving.
I would say goodwill gets alot of business.
I found that exact same Aguila also to be most accurate from 10/22. CCI 40 gr. standard is very good out of it also.
Nice! Love to see the results of this as weve got those Aguilas available here now in Australia. Cheers for all you do, Paul and crew!
Awesome heads up. Looks like they've been here for the last year or so and I had no idea.
I’ve tried a few different variants of the Aguila’s here in Aus. Accuracy is okay for hunting, but if you’re after more than that, it’s best to look elsewhere.
Have hunted with .22's for many years and compared to subsonic, and standard ammo, the Stinger is devastating on small game. The explosive affect of the increased velocity never ceases to amaze. The crack of the bullet is substantially louder than standard .22 however, so not neighborhood friendly. Switched to a PCP air rifle recently. Awesome for pesting when sound is an issue. Air rifles can be pellet picky for accuracy, so you have to experiment to find best type for your PCP rifle.
Why not shoot CCI quiets for the varmints in the neighborhood?
@@OKFrax-ys2op Compared to PCP even the subs are pretty loud.
@@Kurtdog63so true, most pcp’s these days come with shrouded barrels

And Paul, I don’t know if you’re a father, but Happy Father’s Day from the “family”
Aguila ammo smells like superglue when fired. The 60 grain sub sonic sniper is great stuff in a revolver!
You should try some of their centerfire pistol ammo, i think it's made out of rubber cement and goat urine. Works great for being dirty and cheap, I will never hesitate to buy a box if the price is right.
Picked up some of the Hyper Velocities because they were cheap. After the first round at the indoor range, I asked my son if it was me or did the propellant smell very distinctive. He said it wasn't me. All the rest smelled the same.
The subsonic ammo would not cycle my Walther P22 properly.
@@shawnr771 You might try a Taurus TX22. I haven't found anything it won't cycle yet. Mine's very accurate too. I'm not knocking any other 22 pistols, I've just found Taurus to be extremely good for the money.
@@shawnr771 not enough propellant in the 22 short case to push a heavy slide. It still worked for me in a ruger 10/22.
I want a t-shirt that spells out Paul's description of the meat target, for those who have never seen it before! Even considering getting it tattooed on my forearm. Would be a great bumper sticker as well. Thanks Mr Harrell. Keep the cool videos coming our way.
Sincerely, Chris Lake
I like where your going with the T-Shirt idea! Put me down for 2 larges please!
The only way I could even consider making such a shirt is if Mr Harrell himself knocked on my door and granted permission. But if he made them, I'd absolutely purchase several.
Ive shot Stingers for years and didnt even notice they were 32 grain until he said that. Makes it almost as light as an average 22 short projectile which is 29-31 grains
I told you the meat target is always evolving yet people laugh at me. I live in Australia and the cost to set up the meat target could easy exceed $100 due to the extreme cost of meat and everything because of the 'energy crisis & Ukraine war'. I just hope Paul can get his meat, oranges, leather, shirts and fleece for a much lower cost Vs where I live. Curious the CG speeds were so similar, add in the fudge factor and call them all equal and thats seen in the meat target.
Thanks for what you do Mr. Harrell.
These presentations are of great use to me.
We love ya Paul. You’ve been a great inspiration for gun owners out there, and we can’t thank you enough for spending time doing these videos for us. To make us happy. Sometimes even in the rain. You’re going to beat that cancer and come back stronger than ever! I don’t know if you’re religious, but you’re certainly in my thoughts and prayers!! 🙏
This is way better than lockpick lawyer. This man does his tests like a scientist and you can tell he is an expert in the field of firearms. Way better than other gun channels that give minimal explanations. This guy should be a professor.
A late night treat! Paul deadpan humor and guns
As always, thanks, Paul. I place a high value on your opinions and your test results.
I've had better luck with Stingers than with CCI Hypers out to 50 yards with a Henry H001. The range officer claims this is unusual, and your results confirm his observations. Now I have to go back with a different rifle and a different shooter for the Henry. It could very well be just me and the way I react to the "sharp" recoil of the Stingers.
Always a pleasure to see Paul's videos
I've used a few different configurations of .22lr Aguila ammunition and have been pleased with its performance. However, I've only been using it out of pistols and revolvers shooting paper targets. But within that envelope, it has performed as well or better than the various CCI, Federal, Winchester, and SK I've also used, with the one exception being a couple trays of CCI Match Pistol 40gr LRN grouping better for me than all the rest. Your mileage may vary, but Aguila seems a bit like an underrated gem, given its typically lower price point.
This will surely be interesting . I've had interesting results with the different types of 22lr Aguila ammo .
Great video Paul thank you. I have often wondered about these ammo choices. Thank you for clearing up misconceptions I had about the meat eaters... I'm definitely going to stick with the stingers. 👍👍
I like aguila 30 gr. It really likes wood chucks. Spicy little things.
Excellent review PH. Your content is amazing. Please do not stop the chronograph portion, I enjoy hearing the rounds echo and determining to velocity differences. Your review outline is perfect! Oh you need to rehire the deer..lol
I know exactly what I am getting every single time I watch a Paul Harrell production and I am impressed every single time.
Thanks for making the 22lr Hyper Velocity Ammunition: Featuring Aguila Super Maximum and CCI Meateater video.
Good presentation I have been using the Aguila because it is the only 22 ammo I can find in bulk around here, I had avoided it because it wasn't made in USA, but am very happy with it, it functions in two pistols that will only work with hyper ammo. I like that they get there using a heavier bullet.
American made ammo might be preferred, but we don't thumb our nose at good ammo no matter where it manufactured...the Aguila has been good for us, especially when found at a good price...
No matter what you do or how well you do it, there will always be critics. Thanks Paul for another video.
I love aguila. I just use the super extra. But the centerfire pistol ammo is good too, and crimped if you like that
This is an excellent topic, .22 Hyper velocity.
Thanks Paul, these multiple 22lr comparisons have been very helpful. (So, I'm stick'n with the cheap Federal "Champion" 40 grain blue box.) Happy Father's Day!!
Chrono segment was very interesting, lots of 100+ FPS variations.
The hazards of rim fire cartridges.
.22 lr is a difficult round to manufacture consistently with such a small powder charge where a tenth of a grain is a significant percentage. Then throw in the priming compound which also provides quite a bit of the power and it's remarkable that we get ammo as good as it is. I once pulled a box of Remington Golden Bullets apart to inspect the powder and priming and found quite the variables...especially in the priming which also caused the occasional dud when the firing pin hit a light or non-existent area. For the billions of rounds made every year...I'm impressed even with the crappiest of 22lr's.
You got that right...
I like Aguila Ammo, use it all the time, works great in my guns :)
Yup, wouldn't mind getting a few more thousands of Aguila, myself...
Out of about a thousand rounds so far from the 5K case of Aguila super-max I picked up, there's only been one failure to fire - Other than that, the only "complaint" I have about it is that it smells funny when fired. It runs like the proverbial scalded dog through both my 10/22 and a CMMG Conversion bolt that I use in my ARs. The first time I tried using it with the conversion bolt was a bit problematic, with a handful of failure-to-chamber incidents, but once I figured out that (A) using the conversion mag as a forward grip or a monopod is all but guaranteed to cause trouble and (B) the conversion bolt REALLY prefers to be run "slightly moist", those problems went away. Based on the combination of my experience with it, and your results, looks like I'll keep getting Aguila when it's in stock.
Over the last 13 years I've done a lot of 50 yard Benchrest shooting in five shot groups. I shot a lot of various brands, velocities and bullet designs to determine consistent accuracy. Lapua, RWS, Aquila, SK, Eley, Norma , Wolf, Federal and CCI. I stayed away from Remington and Winchester because they are so dirty. Considering the prices of the premium brand ammo they were very accurate. A comparatively consistent accurate and at a more affordable price was the plain old CCI Standard Velocity. I still have a lot of the Lapua, RWS, Aquila, SK, Eley, Norma and Wolf and CCI. The ammo I shoot today for hunting is the CCI Standard.
As always, thank you Paul for making my Saturday night.
Aguila makes great 22s, never had a malfunction in my finky marlin model 60 from the 80s. And very affordable. My go to
My 60 does love Aguila Super and Super Extras.
I’m a fan of them as well. Their .308 and 7.62x51 are great
👍👍same for me, my marlin model 60 is over 40years old and it loves the stuff.
Thank you for a very informative video. I like carrying my .22 vs one of my larger firearms at times due to weight etc. Nice seeing the results on the meat test
Loaded with Stingers in my pocket right now.
Mr. Paul Harrel deserves a RUclips Gun Tuber award.
Thank you as always Paul.
Ironically he won the Most Likely to Survive the Apocalypse award at the Gundies this year.
The Aguila Super Max has worked well in my CMMG, stainless .22LR AR conversion kit...Thx Paul.
I would never fast forward through the chronograph session. I enjoy your demonstration and also the beautiful vista behind you.
I was definitely one of the ones that was complaining but as always, great video. I would definitely like to see a new video with the velocitor. Hopefully, they still exist somewhere. I have no understanding of why CCI produces them in such low numbers. Velocitor vs Minimag. I think everyone wants that video.
I expect to hear “To test the effectiveness on the attended target we are going to a medium call the squirrel target. For those who haven’t seen it (because no one ever has) it is a chicken ribs, chicken breast, grapes for lung tissue, more chicken ribs in the back stuffed into a cheap, thin leather glove and backed with the new and improved hight tech fleece bullet stop.”
Fellas. Listen up. I did my own testing with federal punch, stinger, super maximum and the norma eco and federal silvertip. 10/22 rifle used.
1) aguila supermaximum is the king. I got over 1700fps on my chrono. The solid with go through (2) 2x4 and the hp will almost penetrate both
2) federal punch is up next. Serious penetration and higher than expected speed. Blows through 2 2x4 no problem 1615fps
3) stinger Gets stopped in the 2nd 2x4. 1475fps in my gun
4) Norma eco 1375fps
5) Winchester silvertip 1315fps
And btw, the supermaximum stop armadillos in one shot. It’s DEVASTATING to them.
Can’t believe you are gone brother. What a terrible year.
I love when Paul re-shoots after an unexpected result. Shows a commitment to quality.
I've Got something for you too! A knuckle sandwich!
I had high hopes for the meateater, I didn't know it existed. That being said I won't be buying any to try either. Thanks for another great presentation Paul!
Such real life tests. Common sense explanations. And dry humor to boot!
Another great video!
Returning to this video again. I have hope for you, Paul!
Stingers also have a slighly longer case, which is why they cant be used well in some guns and are often banned to be used in user instructions of guns
The OAL is the same as a LR.
@@classicrider103 jeah but the case is slightly longer, some guns either dont chamber them right or some semis cant overcome the amount of friction the longer case has and tend to jam. which is why some operational manuals explicitly write not to use them.
iirc this is the case for the ruger 10/22.
EDIT: 10/22 manual page 20 shows the stinger as slithly longer than regular .22lr ammo and says not to use them in target and tactical versions
I have literally NEVER fast-forwarded through the "boring" chronograph parts. I don't know if it appeals to my somewhat OCD nature or what. Either way, I friggin' love it. Lol
LOL, I fired up this video but the sound was off, and I was amazed, thinking to myself " Jesus, what has Ruger finally done to improve the 10/22???" THEN the sound came up and I find out Paul's NOT only NOT shooting at 100, NOT 75, hell not even at 50, but at 25 yards:( I began remembering the one my brother bought, tried for about a week to get to shoot accurately, finally gave up, and gave the thing away. I thought to myself, 'oh well, same old 10/22.' Then, I involuntarily lapsed into my 'chit eating grin' as I had instead bought a Marlin 60. Still got it- still shoots like a champ.
In all fairness to Paul, who can really shoot, NOT horrible results from one of those rifles. Gotta give Ruger marketing creds though..
The logic and thoroughness of each presentation has remained consistent throughout Paul's video career and I appreciate it.
Your videos are always so informative and entertaining. I appreciate the time and effort you put into everything you do and you sound like the professional you say you are. By the way, I love that line, never stop saying it!
The real prize is the Paul Harrell videos we watched along the way ❤
I judge this presentation both informative and entertaining. Thank you, Paul and crew. Excellence never fails when you put forth a video.
Paul Harrell is a true American Patriot! Best firearm videos on the Tube!! Keep up the great work my friend!!! 👌😎
Schrödingers groups, paul harrel is both an "Average Shooter" and an incredible rifleman at the same time until you see him shoot in the field (his natural habitat) where he will hit his target with 102% accuracy, with an included 2% margin of error.
Love the Aguila in my Tippman. Thanks for the review
Without reading the comments, I wanted to add: Those 21gr coppers are a SQUIRREL HUNTER'S DELIGHT! If they group in your rifle (and they group TIGHT through my 10/22 take-down "tactical" with the SS threaded barrel - as tight as anything else I have. One small hole does the job in and out with minimual meat or hide damage. So, why not just ball? Because I can't get it to group like these at 50 yards. I've even stretched it to 100 yards and know my bullet drop (they do get lost in the wind and will peeter out quiclkly so 50 is usually my max.) The only thing that compares is match grade ball. Back before these were called "Meat Eaters", CCI branded them with a different name and when they didn't sell like CCI thought they would, I bought 1000 rounds for 3 cents each. They serve one purpose and one purpose only for me: Squirrel hunting. A 3x9 low end Vortex optic with raised, "peep under" rings so I can use my irons, and this has become a good match for me. I have two other 10/22s and two Ruger Mark series pistols but only one with the optic and if I'm trying to see a squirrel at 50 in the shade, 7 or 8 power REALLY helps. As always, thanks for the great video, Paul. I"m a CCI Stinger (and now Velocitor) fan for life. I'm a few years younger than you so you and I both remember Stingers hitting the market in the 80's and I can't tell you how many good 'ol boys from north Clark County ( NOT Nevada. You know of which I refer) took camp meat does with a head shot (and even some hearts) with a 10/22 and Stingers to not attract too much attention, this was up in The Bern on the first day of the rainy elk season. A different time. I do miss those simpler days in the PNW but am glad I was able to flee to the Rockies before the two-state gun legislation fell apart. I have family still in the county and, oh what a mess and I hear their lamentations. Keep your chin up and remember, it could be California, New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Hawaii... I'm waiting for you and the crew to sell out and set up shop up in the Idaho Panhandle! At some point, I am guessing Oregon will limit your video content to such a small window, a relocation to a free state may be mandatory. Us Idahoan transplants (from 30 years ago) can only hope. Out.
Fabulous video as always Paul. I want to point out, if someone hasn't already, that the term "meateater" is a marketing term used by CCI on a series of ammo, not just the hypervelocity that Paul mentions here. You can look up the details for yourself. For example, I have a box of regular old Mini Mag 36 grain hp with "MEATEATER" and the meateater logo prominently printed on the box.
I understand the purpose of the “meat eater” is; 1st kill small game without destroying too much meat, and 2nd provide a lead-free projectile for those who can’t legally hunt with lead.
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Im so happy that another company took the 22lr and lengthened it's case for more powder. I often wish that 22 extra long was the rimfire round that survived. It would be absolutely amazing with modern loadings
22 mag is extra long
@@GS-zv3qn its much longer than "22 extra long". 22 Mag also has a more expensive jacket bullet. I just wish 22 XL survived instead of 22LR
I think you do very well with the presentation of the chronograph. You understand how to present well to the camera.
Sir, always a pleasure to see how my opinion matches to your results, just superbly done, thank you.
I just started buying Aguila maybe six months ago but I have nothing bad to say about it and carry it in my little mouse gun and I praying for Paul right now and hope he keeps up the good fight ❤you man
Now, I'm not saying I get all my gun advice from RUclips, but if Paul Harrell says it's _not_ the ammunition for him, you sure won't find it in any gun I own.
The stinger has always been my prefered choice in 22 rimfire. It is nice to know that there is a choice that duplicates the performance on the market.
A great presentation, Paul. Thanks!
Nice video as always. You mentioned at the end that both the Aguila and Stingers had about the same impact on the Meat Target, but the Aguila ammo did seem to be quite a bit more consistent from an accuracy standpoint. I'm a CCI guy, but I think I need to give the Aguila Super Maximum a closer look. Thanks again for another nice video 👍
Thanks Mr. Harrell for keeping us safe from orange lung tissue and ribs, along with poor ammunition choices.
What you are calling meateater is cci copper-22. Meateater is branded on several different rounds so it might be confusing to viewers. Great content as always Paul!
Having seen all your videos, that reactive target is the best one I’ve seen you use. Thank-you!
Excellent comparison, thanks for sharing..
Well done !
I'm surprised that from the rifle there was that much penetration from the expanding rounds. In any case, this (and the other .22LR videos from Paul) show that while not necessarily "ideal," a good .22 rifle with good ammo is not to be underestimated for self-defense/home-defense. Great video as always.
Thank you Paul.
I always appreciate you work. Please keep it coming.
YOU BE THE JUDGE
I got turned onto Aguila during the .22 ammo shortage several years back. It's done great for me, and has worked in firearms that are notoriously picky (Walther P22). So far in several thousand rounds, no duds. In my opinion the quality control seems better, at least so far.
Love your videos Paul Harrell. Thank you for sharing
As always Paul, an articulate & well thought out presentation. If the opportunity presents itself would you please do a performance test of the Federal Punch 22 LR 29 grain ammunition and its efficacy on your meat target. Federal is marketing this ammunition as a viable personal defense round for those who are carrying 22 caliber handguns due to arthritic hands, weak grip, and/or recoil sensitivity. Thanks in advance.
Thank you, Paul & crew. I never noticed a particularly bad grouping when shooting Stingers, but most of my groupings aren't especially good 😮 😂.
You could have said "I didn't feel like using Stingers"!! Or "If you sent me money you cheap turd, I could have bought some"!! Just trying to help. :-)
HAHAHA
Thanks for the informative video
Looking forward to more
Pcp rifles have taught me a few things. Going from 20 up to 32 grain projectiles is quite a difference. Different twist rates can make a huge difference in accuracy, etc. Maybe those stingers didnt like the twist rate of your 10\22. I don't have any science to back any of this up, but it would make a difference.
4:58 just before here he said 2 of the outliers were “just me” but one of those holes had 2 bullets in a row go in the same hole. A really good group TBH
Nah, just consistently inconsistent bullets.
I love the .22LR tests. It really goes to show they're nothing to laugh at. Not the best for home defense sure, but if you're a small woman or you want your 13-14yo to have something they can grab if they're home alone some night, a 10/22 or S&W M&P15-22 loaded with 25rds of decent ammo like the Stingers could get the job done. Put 10 rounds of that into an intruder in quick succession and I bet it'll turn them around out the door at least.
92s is a thing of beauty. Bottom mag release and has had one mag ran through it. Original box hyper polished wood grips and perfect deep blue
This is a great Father’s Day present
Paul, love your videos!
Thanks Paul
I noticed that the first 3 shots of the meat eater all appeared to go through the hole the first shot made, and all without a scope in sight , not bad for "The Average " shooter , of course We all know Paul isn't the " average shooter" . Thanks Paul & crew , catch You all next episode , Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well .
No dog in this race. But I'd say the 21 grain copper polymer has a place hunting small game and pest control on farms, because its lead free. It can't poison the food chain of any people, scavengers, or livestock.
