The Ice Worm is such an awesome Leviathan! When I first encountered it it sure as hell gave me a scare. Seeing the dead one is also really cool! Gotta say tho I am happy that thing can not swim haha.. that would be super scary. Also its design is so cool! I built a small base in the ice desert just because the Ice Worm is near there haha!
Trying to sleep next to the *checks notes* 95 metre long killer worm, what could be more relaxing! xD
That or it can swim but is much more proficient in land. Still a good thing that it prefers land over water though.
@@iAletho there’s one thing more relaxing… making a 69,420-meter-deep sea base and living along with the void chechelirates (forgot how it’s spelled) in the void
I love how this guy can do a video about a creature in the game and make me intrested in it!
I'm glad you enjoy it wiktor!
While it technically doesn't swim... I wouldn't say that it can't. The way its horn melts the ice as it burrows, it basically _does_ swim, but through ice instead of water (and yes, I am aware this is an oversimplification).
I suppose nothing in the games lore contradicts the trailer so in theory it could swim, we just don't see any of that in game or in the data banks, so I suppose it can be left open to interpretation! :)
As someone who knows about worms, i am absolutely seething at the fact the ice worm canonically has bones
This made me lol
Remember, this is an alien planet. None of the life here has to follow any biological design conventions found on earth. This thing was likely named the “Ice Worm” because of its visual resemblance to invertebrates on our world.
Same Vergil
Are you the storm that is approaching?
If it didn't have a skeleton, it wouldn't be able to reach its size.
Very few times have I liked ending scenes where people point out their other videos. You are one of the very few aletho, because you actually make it really entertaining and engaging lol :)
Haha thank you Graceful, I try my best ;)
These lore vids are so relaxing to watch and a good thing to watch for starters
Thanks flipthescript!
By far my favorite creature in all of subnautica, ive been waiting for this
This one's for you toast!
Even though the ice worm is a great idea and creature, its implementation in the game is awful: first of all it's restrained in a little area instead of being more present and there's also the fact that its attack forces you to get down the snow fox so that you don't have a chance to move away.
Still great video, as always!
Thanks Trappist!
Fun fact: in the beta if it hit you while you're on the snowfox you'd get launched!
@@lolipopgorepineapple8531 They should have kept that. As is, the worm's just annoying.
I wanna do work in marine biology and ive always admired subnautica and all the made-up creatures it has in it, it was always fun to read all the information the PDA gives you but this series feels like im watching a documentary and it feels SO GOOD.
Tysm for the amazing content and i hope you will make a video for the shadow leviathan aswell❤
Ice worm would have been so much cooler if they werent as common and annoying.
Yeah they were really annoying when I played, more of an inconvenience than a genuine threat !
I never used snow fox so iceworm was never a problem it cant do crap to a prawn suit
Subnautica's Iron Man op!
Another amazing study and it's on one of my favorite leviathans!
Thanks Shiny! It's definitely a unique one!
The ice worm was an awesome concept but I feel like it was a missed opportunity, the ice worm is only really surprising the first time it jumps you and it does such little damage that you can easily complete all the land sections just by running through on foot. Still a really cool creature tho.
I’m also starting to think you have a secret pengling fuel operation going on..
I absolutely love these videos!! There’s so underrated! I’m so interested in the biology of Subnautica and especially the leviathans! Good job as always! 🎉😊
Thanks minionkid!
*’Nam style flashbacks to Tremors*
*rumble rumble rumble*
brilliant video and research, but i must say the ice worm isn't really as scary when you can make a beeline across its biome to the point of interest on foot and be absolutely fine - potentially needing a medkit or two
Thanks Squeak, I learned when making this that Ice Worms never show up when you want them to! xD
Another high quality video of this epic youtuber!
Thanks Computer.Gaming!
@@iAletho np
for those who want to scan a ice worm theres a dead iceworm that seems to have died recently also you can scan its bones
new aletho vid!!
i found the ice worm really terrifying, even if it's pretty easy to avoid.
excited for new content!
Thanks muslimgamer :)
Heart attack worm
Is this the canon name now?
yes
@@iAletho yes
Nice now i know more about the creature that makes me want to cry❤
I was going to make a comment about the similarities between Ice Worms and the Shai-Hulud from Dune. But you made the connection too. 😂
Dune but with ice
Yay new video!!!
Lets go threeaxolotls!
I knew I wasn't the only one using them as fuel!
They just cook to good 🥓
Love the lore videos good job keep it up
Thanks Riel!
Let's go I've been wanting a video on the ice worm
Just for you Juan! :D
I am really happy that this year is in the back I thought you were done with it lol
Keep up the good work with these videos
Thanks 40hz!
I’m surprised the resemblance to duna’s sandworm wasn’t mentioned. Specially with the way the thumper functions similarly to the sandworm “bait” described in the books and now shown in the movies
These videos are really interesting. I love learning nore about this games creatures
Thanks leaf!
Another great video :3
Keep it up
Thanks Weeping!
As a superheated but also frozen bug creature, it's a bit like D&D's remorhaz, but that's more centipede than worm. Vague cousins, at least.
I've never played D&D but that sounds cool Christine!
The first thing I said when I saw this was, "Oh yes." I love the ice worm and was excited to see this video!
It's been a long time coming! :)
Can you make a video about Brain Coral next?
xD
I have been waiting for a new one for so long
Here it is!
ayyy new video
yay!
Another way to avoid the Ice Worm? The Prawn Suit. It’s nigh-indestructible to Ice Worms and can for some reason break the goddamn sound barrier with it’s thrusters and grapple arm on land.
I think subnautica 3 should be about an investigation team sent to investigate all of the disappearances and the rest of the planet. If they go this route of story the devs can make dlc leading to different story events and biomes. It would be nice to go back to the crater and arctic areas as well as explore newer ones. Even let us see the void area
I love the ice worm. When i first encountered it, it was terrifying. Just unfortunate you cant scan it as i love doing that
It’s a good day when Aletho uploads
Haha thank you BMP!
Perhaps after all leviathans are covered. Then maybe you could cover other, unique creatures. Like what you did with the Warper. Maybe the sea monkey, squidshark, cuddlefish, crabsquids, etc.
What a good surprise
BOOM, unexpected video drop!
Nice vid bro, i was busy so i couldnt see it, btw is the shadow leviathan next?
Can’t wait to see a shadow leviathan video from you
So basically the side-mounted spikes on the Ice Worm act as burrowing treads? Neat!
Sorry I'm late for release! I figured I'd play a game that came out 2 days ago...but I'm here now!
Good to see you Robin!
I wonder if the Ice Worm from Armored Core 6 was based on this, it's very similar except for being much, much, much larger and mechanical
Damn the Maker and His ore deposits. Damn the coming and going of Him. May His passage leave the world. May we keep the world for our people.
i don't know what you said but it still was interesting
Aww i was hoping youd mention the graboids from tremors
I've never heard of those... but I'll have to look into them!
Good vid!
Thanks Leon!
The first time I heard of the ice worm I was just thinking:I NEED TO GET THIS GAME NOW.
I think it and the shadow leviathan as well theta and it's relatives are related to the ancient skeleton
Uh well i did not know the below zero is 4546b too i mean preety interesting always though it was an other planet
I fear no leviathans, but that thing… it scares me (I’m serious)
Wormy boi
Not a brain coral but still cool
He's a real hothead
This is very poetic
North of the border has got to make one of these
the ice worm’s centipede body & hot tipped spikes resembles remorhaz from dungeons and dragons.
It reminds me of the dune sand worm
This was a great video.
I also have a question/request: will you do one about the Shadow Leviathan?
I certainly will Anthony! :)
Thank you.
My favourite leviathan
Too bad this Levithan is absolutely annoying to go up against - In Snowfox, get hit off every 2 seconds - In Prawn Suit, a bit better, but you go mock 7
How many of these are you gonna make me watch ;-;
Danke
Basically an evolved graboid
I think that the ice work is the only leviathan that actually scares me, the sea dragon and the ghosts stress me out, and the reapers are now just fun to fight. To be honest tho, I wish I could play subnautica for the first time again and have that absolute terror on my first reaper encounter.
Edit: yes, I forgot about the shadow and the cheliceralte leviathan. The shadow also still stresses me a little bit ( but not much because I have scanned it twice ).
This is the national geographic of subnautica
4th video of asking him to do one on the sea emporer ad calling it "Subnautica's Damsel In Destess"
babe wake up, new aletho video
Lets go meltedfinch!
I never new what the hell thumbers do until i saw this video thanks
i actually never knew below zero had a DUNE refrence
2:02 “Melted water”
There's nothing better than the thrill I get when outrunning these guys in the snowy wastes.
Watched a few of your videos and they are so captivating!
my question is how this guy records these critters
Yeeeeeesssss you uploaded the next time please do the sea emperor leviathan it's the best one for me please
There's only 3 left to cover now, I wonder which one might be next? :P
@@iAletho the shadow leviathan
@@iAletho Will you be doing individual creatures after leviathans?
Review the shadow leviathan
If i payed attention in class as much as your vids i wouldn't be failing 😂😂
4546B is just more fun!
@@iAletho I'm with you on that one 😂
Subnautica dev are watching your video to know more about their own creatures
Knifehead + mongolian death worm = *this*
Also what if the ice is thin, and the ice worm takes a swim through the ice sheets, and attacks.
How is the shadow leviathan video doing today.
I like the concept of the Ice Worm. In execution...I was disappointed. It was more an annoyance than a threat, knocking me off the snowfox instead of just eating me. I was expecting the snowfox to be able to outrun the thing like in the trailer, but no. Apparently, if you're not on the ground on your own two feet, you're just safe.
Let's look at the other Leviathans. Reaper? Dodge to the left or right to prevent getting gored by it's maw claws. Emperor? Move fast enough in a Prawn Suit and the projectiles it launches will likely not hit you. Ghost? Seamoth with speed upgrade. It's not that fast and it can't grab you, though best tactic is to hide in a hole until it loses interest. Ice Worm? Just ignore it. Pick a direction. Go that direction. Repair Snowfox after a hit.
You could replace the Ice Worm with rough terrain that damages the bike and nothing would change. There is no tactic needed. Just go. There is no aggressive Leviathan in the first Subnautica where the best way to deal with it is to treat it more like it's an annoyance than a threat. Add in that the areas the thing dwells are wide open with "DESIGNATED WORM AREA" signs about, removing the threat of it coming at you in a place you wouldn't expect...It lost all intimidation for me. The most dangerous thing about it is it wastes your time which could make your meters run out, but by the time I went there, I had the Survival Solved Salad which might as well have just removed those meters entirely.
If they do make another Subnautica game, I hope they go back to the design ethos of the first game. I want threats. I want scares. I want to have to change my tactics when I hear a Leviathan's call. I want Hardcore runs to be tense. In Below Zero there's just no threat. There are only two tactics needed. Perimeter Defense System, since everything dangerous grabs you and takes a moment to do damage, or ignore it and keep moving. If this level of safety was late game stuff and didn't cover every Leviathan threat, that would be fine, but when mid game tech makes both the showcase threat and the final area trivial, the game's balance is all wrong.
Instead of the PDA we should just have this guy😂
Did anyone else have a fish tank pacifically for breeding penguins four they’re bioreactor
Dune fans: sand is Better!!!
Sand worm: my twin!
I like to think about ice worm and frozen leviathan is fighting for territory
They very well might have done when the frozen leviathan was alive, or maybe it just fed on them, who knows 😅
@@iAletho that will be the most exciting thing EVER
What if the Frozen Leviathan is the natural predator of the Ice Worm?!
I remember when I first saw it I shitted my pants (I don’t actually shitted in my pants)
i have a personally theory on what could have killed that Ice Worm, the most bad-ass person in survival game history, Marguerite Maida!
Man this is like one of those science documentaries
Haha I suppose it could be!
@@iAletho I’m thinking about changing my profile pic to something Subnautica related, but I can’t really think of a great one. Do you have any recommendations of what it could be.
Penglings or reaper
