Another cheap and way better solution could be: the silver side of an rescue blanket! Aluminium reflects only ~50% of light, matt white ~70% and the silver side of an rescue blanket reflects ~97% of light. You need a good but cheap material for reflecting light because you have a use case were you need as much light as possible reflected? Rescue blanket!

Tin foil is made from aluminum which can be toxic to fish and invertebrates, so make sure no spray from airstones or foam filters inside your tanks or even splashback from HOB filters or spray bars hits the foil to oxidize it and get into your tank. Try mylar from various chip/popcorn packaging (use the biggest sized bags). wash them and cut them using the inner side of the bags. Mylar has aluminum in it, but it is sealed from the outside world by a thin layer of plastic, so it won't react to the water. tape together several bag around your piece of LED box/shade.

That’s a great tip thanks! This was just a quick thinking on the spot video. Maybe I’ll have to do another in the future with chip packets. Luckily I don’t get any splashing but will keep an eye out.

@@SimplyShrimps Yeah your reflector looks to be high enough above the tank to get little splashing. I was thinking you could always add anothere layer of plastic wrap over the aluminum foil if you think you need it.

I’ll probably just save up some old crisp packets 😂

I had a similar problem with light glare escaping my Twinstar light. My attractive solution... Pothos.

That's a good tip. If these were display tanks then I'd be tempted to do the same :)

@@SimplyShrimps Yeah, your solution is far more practical for your situation. Good job.

I have done this before. Within 10-15 days, the foil will be oxidized and turn blackish colour and won't reflect any more. You may use inverted packets of chips.

I will keep an eye out for this. Hopefully it won’t happen as I don’t get any water splashing up. Maybe I’ll have to upgrade again in the future. Thanks 😁
