My 2nd question is my aquarium get light from window from 8 am to 5pm , so i closed my led light , it is acceptable ? since i noticed less algae produced... thanks again
I’m a plant person as well so i have a bunch of Barrina LED lights laying around since they work so well for my house plants. I am trying to use one for my 10 gal aquarium but I’m not sure if i should just upgrade to a proper planted aquarium light. Idk if that will help with my algae issues and keeping plants alive.
Thanks a bunch for your vivid video... but i have a question i have white and blue led light and also i have yellow led, which will be better for using 24 gallon planted aquarium (CABOMBA PLANTS)... thanks again ... Regards
Love this! Your awesome collection of tanks goes from strength to strength in each vid. I’m sure it’s been asked and answered a million times by now, but how much time does tank upkeep take you?
Hard to find a video on decent lighting for a Deep Tank. I've had live plants since I was a kid. But in recent years I've moved towards tall tanks, 30 to 36 inches tall. And tall plants also. They can be a pain as far as having to reach down in 36 inches of water to rearrange everything. But I like the way they look. My lights reach down well enough now. But I wish I could find decent brightness to the bottom at a decent cost too.
Build you a verry reflective hood with some LED flood lights. Shape the hood to cut deep. You'll hit the bottom easily of a 48 inch deep tank with a 50 watt Flood LED.
I've had good luck with both Nicrew and Aquaneat lights. The Nicrew are built like tanks. My only gripe is I find they tend to wash out the colors a bit too much for my eyes. The Aquaneat are about as cheap as you can get and are plastic, but they've kept my plants happy and their colors aren't as harsh as the Nicrew. Neither in the same league as a Chihiros or anything, but I'm too cheap to spend that kind of money on a damn light.
I appreciate you sharing your experience you have amazing set up love all your aquariums it’s obvious you know what you’re talking about I am looking for advice on lighting for my 30 gallon aquarium so this has been very informative thank you
Chris thanks. I'm currently in the planning stage of converting an old reef tank to planted. It's a 60. Looking st nicrew or hygger. Live the glasses btw! And new haircut.
Hey Chris. I have 2 125s with just shubunkin and calico fantail. Each 125 has a beamswork DA 6000k light, sitting on the tops. I get alot of brown diatom algae. I have grown anacharis in the past but now I can't get them to grow. Do I need to upgrade to a 10,000k beamswork DA full spectrum or maybe get a 6 foot shop light, if Walmart sells them? What are your thoughts? All your plants look amazing!!!
On the topic of house plants and aquarium plants using similar spectrums: It is certainly true that most house plants are shade plants and most aquarium plants are also shade plants. Further, most aquarium plants are amphibious, and are every bit if not more likely to grow above water at a tropical forest floor, much in the way many house plants do. However, water absorbs blue and red light differently than air, such that blue light is absorbed very quickly by the water molecules themselves while red light is absorbed by dissolved organic carbon (doc) and the larger particulate organic carbon (poc). Not only this, but the light coming through the forest canopy is already more red light because more of the blue light is absorbed by the trees' leaves. Diana Walstad suspects based on her own experimentation that GREEN light plays an underrated and important role in planted aquariums, which would make sense seeing as how more of it would be available in natural conditions for these plants. Based on greenhouse experimentations that I've studied, while red light is more necessary for a variety of plant functions, shade plants like your typical above water house plant (even the ones marketed as "high light" are in nature often found in the shade, it's just that they're not found in deep shade, and so require more light) have been found to grow about the same regardless of the proportion of red vs blue light used. However, if you want them to flower, most plants need red light.
Ok. I have watched tons of your videos on planted aquariums. Extremely helpful. Giving my first time with live plants. Only question I realy have once my plants are established. What would b best light cycle. Example.... I work early and I'd like to see my fish in the evening as day light. So would a light time work as.... 9 hrs of daylight (1230p to 930 p.... lights completely off till 430 am with a dark blue light ( mood light) till 12 30pm... please give me your opinion like to hear back.
I could really use your help..I’m struggling with my new fluval 3.0 settings..yes I can use planted tank setting but feel it could be better…everything I read online tells me contradictory solutions..I have 135g..24 deep with Java fern,Anubias, swords,Val…should it be maxed out because the tank is so deep?…any help would be greatly appreciated..Ty
I want a cylinder tank SO BAD OMG. but thanks for the light help. My micro tank in my window pearls all the time and i cant trim the plants fast enough 😂, but my other tanks that cannot go in a window, are just struggling the poor things 😂 so appreciate this
I have a question can I use a smart bulb for my house that changes colours can I set it to purple maybe fluctuate between purple red and blue would that work?
In this video. You have observed the plant/algae only based on light Expensive and Cheap. But the water condition/parameter play the major roll for growing plant/algae. What if the tank with algae, got algae from some source you didn't know. and it's growing in the tank. So it's dosn't mater you have Expensive/Cheap light. The algae it's started growing.
Omg Hello! I just came across your channel & wanted to watch a video of yours! Wow! I’m sooo Impressed! How fun of a set up you have!! I don’t do aquarium plants, but I do plants 🪴 in general & wanted to know abt lights for winter/cold. So nice to see all this, I was glued to watching & will watch more! You are the King of Lighting!! Very Good! You love your job! Do you sell plants to the public for tanks? Is this what you do for business? I was curious! Good Job Dude!
Hi -- I have a 150 gallon aquirum and wan to grow some easy to grow plants for for a little effect can u recommend a light please ? id say its a low tech tank with neons
Quick question for those that have a brightness setting on the light what’s a good decent percentage to have??? Currently at 70% brightness #newtoplanting.
hey man -- i moved to colorado -- my SC plants havent been doing well... i dont really like succlents -- any large easy to care for plants for CO? back east i used to grow tress in a pot and really i like to do the same here - tree in apot
I’ve tried a few led lights and I’ve have the best success on the full spectrum with blues reds and greens like the Hygger you showed at the end ..I have same light on a couple tanks and plants love that spectrum ✌🏻
higher intensity lights promote algae growth much faster cheaper lights is easier on that plants grow maybe just a little slower also hight of lights is very important
Interesting fact...a higher value LED light reduce the amount of algae in the aquarium.... So what colors do these lights emit that doesn't allow for unsightly algae to grow or flourish? Most aquarium kit lights are insufficient for growing beautiful aquatic plants. (...and I won't even get into talking about corals!!)
it hurts hearing you talk about lights... Its clear you have absolutely no understanding of the physics involved. There are so many wrong statements in this video it actually induces pain

Great Rundown on Plant Lighting…Thanks for sharing
Very helpful video, but I do have one question. How do you test for deficiencies in the aquarium. I am experiencing a sudden die off
Love this! Your awesome collection of tanks goes from strength to strength in each vid.

Great job dude!

How long do you leave lights on for planted aquarium
Thanks...one of your best videos👍
bagus...saya suka pencahayaannya...
How do those shop lights do going through glass?

What about Fluval plant 3.0? I like your green wall.
I just started a aquarium should I remove the top that came with it? I noticed you don't have them.

Great video, 1st time watching your content. I look forward to checking out your other channel as well about houseplants. :)
I have a question can I use a smart bulb for my house that changes colours can I set it to purple maybe fluctuate between purple red and blue would that work?
What's the color temperature on those Walmart shop lights on your 55 gallon.
So what is the downside of putting my light fixture right above the water (not on supported higher up)?

Nice job!
What's the suitable hieght for 10 gallon tank I have hygger 999
Could you please advise
You just saved me some money, thank you 🙏🏽 for that.

How do you deal with evaporation?
Are uv lights used for something else in aquariums?
Do you keep the lights on 24/7? I love your channel very awesome !
6-8 hours tends to be best for plants.
Hi -- I have a 150 gallon aquirum and wan to grow some easy to grow plants for for a little effect can u recommend a light please ? id say its a low tech tank with neons

Depends on your plants. Start low, if they aren't growing, increase by 10% and repeat this process every week
Im wandering how much is your electric bill montly
I bought a blue and white LED light second hand but I don't know if it's a grow light or not or if all LEDs will do that?
Hi, does those phytolamp works for aqua plants? Read somewhere they do works for house plants. Some even contain UV. Thanks
How often do you water change on allllll your tanks?
hey man -- i moved to colorado -- my SC plants havent been doing well... i dont really like succlents -- any large easy to care for plants for CO? back east i used to grow tress in a pot and really i like to do the same here - tree in apot

Very useful video
Hi what light do you use for the 5 gallon nano
I have a hyyger 72w for a 55gallon tank. Will that be enought for a planted tank?
Oh yes! That would be enough. But by now you would know 🇦🇺🚔👮🏼♂️😁
Are there lights that make the plants look more vibrant without a camera?
higher intensity lights promote algae growth much faster
cheaper lights is easier on that
plants grow maybe just a little slower
also hight of lights is very important
No lids? I suppose you only keep non-jumping fish?
Whats your take on floodlights? They are cheap as hell and brightest. MD fishtanks use to use them but doesnt any more for some reason.
I used some to make my pond lights. There’s videos on my channel
Should I leave the light on 24/7 ?
D O N T
What does your electricity bill look like 😮
Looks like jungle. You just need lizards and parrots to go with it.
Miss you bro

Most aquarium kit lights are insufficient for growing beautiful aquatic plants. (...and I won't even get into talking about corals!!)
Why nobody uses natural sunlight in aquariums? Is it just because of algae?
I wish I could leave my tank lids off....cats and cat hair would be floating in the water
Are you really saying that lights made with a metal assembly will grow less algae than ones with a plastic assembly? I don’t know about that…..
@stevenduncan1042 did you miss the pet about there being different colors of light other than white lmao
He said the metal ones are likely better quality and have a broader light spectrum
it hurts hearing you talk about lights... Its clear you have absolutely no understanding of the physics involved. There are so many wrong statements in this video it actually induces pain
Lol. He has so much success in the hobby, that you comment is laughable.
Then please point out what he is wrong about, don't just say that he is wrong about something.
