    I’m 46 years old with uterine fibroids. I had a blood transfusion after my hemoglobin went down to 3.5. Afterwards I was prescribed ferrous sulfate which was absolutely useless because I kept throwing it up. Fast forward four months and yet ANOTHER transfusion later and a new dr who prescribed a supplement called Maxfe,(combo of Iron, B12, vitamin C for easier absorption plus other stuff), the game has been changed and I haven’t had an issue since thank God!

      Hello and thank YOU guys for your kind words and feedback! I take the Maxfe every other day (it has a whopping 889% of the daily value of iron)and while it isn’t covered by my insurance, it’s only $1.75 per pill out of pocket, at least here in Puerto Rico where I live. I’m also quite possibly the pickiest eater ever and don’t even TOUCH anything green so virtually all of my iron intake comes from the supplement, just to give you an idea of how powerful it is. I know that ideally, you should get a majority of your iron from foods but that’s still a work in progress for me😅. God bless you all and feel better!🙏🏻♥️

    My daily routine. I hope this helps anyone that is on levothyroxine.
    I'm been taking liquid iron twice a day for a month. Morning and before bedtime. I'm also taking levothyroxine for my thyroid around 4:15am. I separated them apart for 4 hours in the morning on an empty stomach. Eat breakfast an hour later after the liquid iron at 9:15am. Take my vitamins 30 minutes after lunch around 1:00pm. Eat dinner at 5pm. Take my liquid iron between 8:30pm to 9:00pm. Light exercise for 30 minutes for blood circulation. Bedtime around 9 to 10:00pm. I feel a lot better not as dizzy as before. I still have occasional headache and body aches. Also advise to check with your doctor.

    I have low iron bc of "fibroids" and excessive blood loss. At the most, I lost a pint in one day (13 period cups full). I've been bleeding like this for about two months now, but levels aren't blood transfusion bad. Doctor says 325mg of ferrous sulfate 3x day and once a month b12 shots. I'm not comfortable doing the iron 3x a day so I'm going to titration myself up to that much and do the bloodwork in a month like doctor said. I'd rather not vomit up the iron that I am taking and work my way up like you said in the video.
    Thanks for the informative video.
    I watched another video that got me to spend $25 on iron supplements made of bovine spleens (bc the guy said it absorbs better but then the NIH article said the opposite) and now I can't send them back. I'm so sad. lol. Thanks for not making a video swaying me one way or another but helping me make an informed decision instead. I'm gonna stick with ferrous sulfate with Zofran two hours after I eat. First thing in the morning, I gag on pretty much anything. I hate iron tho.

      @@ArsalanAspiresHello doctor, I am taking pills for my thyroid these days and recent medical exam showed I have iron deficiency, so the doctor advised to take Ferro Tardyferon daily 2 hours before food. So what I did, I first took my thyroid pill then waited 30 minutes then drank my yogurt then 15 mins after I took Ferro, like this more than 1 month. The side affects I got rash on my skin and feeling of burned skin on my gut. Later on I discovered that I should have avoided milk products while taking iron. What should I do now? Going to the gastroenterologist to check my intestine or it will go away by itself? I already stopped taking the iron pills. Now I want to get rid of the burned feel. What food helps to restore my gut flora or gut skin?

    Hi there, what daily dosage of iron is best to fix iron deficiency anemia? And what is an optimal level of ferritin?

    • @ArsalanAspires
      @ArsalanAspires  3 года назад +2

      Thank you for your question. The optimal dose will be an individualized dosage that is recommended by your doctor tailored just for you. Typically this dosage upon proper diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia by your doctor, may range from two 60-mg elemental iron tablets orally daily. Ferritin values greater than or equal to 100 ng per mL (224.70 pmol per L) generally exclude iron deficiency anemia so it is optimal to stay above this.

      Iron is best absorbed on an empty stomach according to data. Yet, iron supplements can cause stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea in some people on empty stomachs. You may need to take iron with a small amount of food to avoid this problem which is why the directions may say “preferably” in hope to mitigate this risk. Hope this helps.

    Basic info. Whaf about heme iron supplements, they supposed work better, and u dont hsve to worry about timing ..can take it with any food or without. Its better for tummy too.
    Also...for people who dont know...oral iron spray by Betteryou, Floradix liquid iron , iron bisglycinate...are all gentler on tummy .

    PLEASE HELP 😢. May i ask why i feel i have upper back pain everytime i take iron? After eating ,15 minutes i take vitamin C and after 30mins i take iron. I dont know but its uncomforable to my back. I feel there’s something heavy on my back.
    My doctor advice me to take 3 times a day because my HGB is only 102. I forgot to tell my doctor i got my periods done a day after the blood test.
    I only take 2 times a day. Afternoon and night because i feel uncomfortable on my back.
    Im taking FLORAVIT CAPSULE.

      Hi, thank you for your question. Having backaches are known to be a side effect of taking iron supplements. Please let your doctor know of this side effect so they can rule out other causes. The lumbar spine takes more mechanical stress than any other part of the body, so it is one of the first tissues of complaint when taking iron. Also it is best to take iron on an empty stomach if you can, if you take it after meals, I advise two hours after meals.

    I've had this problem my whole life and still haven't solved it . I'm also now hypothyroid but I'm not currently being treated. I'm afraid to take to much iron because of my age. Tbh I have had so much conflicting info I really don't know the correct measures to take.😐 without some iron my thyroid doesn't work and I've read that too much iron can be toxic.

    Hi Doc,
    Can I take iron tablets at night , like 2hrs after my dinner and before sleeping?

    • @ArsalanAspires
      @ArsalanAspires  3 года назад +11

      Hi, thanks for your question. There is conflicting recommendations for taking them at night. Digestion slows down during sleep, so taking certain supplements late at night would possibly lead to inefficient absorption.
      Neil Levin, a clinical nutritionist, agrees that morning is best for multivitamins since they tend to do best when taken earlier in the day, as the B vitamins in them might stimulate metabolism and brain function too much for a relaxing evening or before bed.
      I hope this helps.
