    Thanks a lot!! I have been waiting on this video since I saw him use his. Hopefully I will get to make it this weekend.

      And Stuff Like That - It’s a quick build. If you check the website out I think he uses a 10 or 8 penny nail for the removable piece. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

      Thanks! I appreciate it. I’m final editing my no weld adjustable tool rest now and will start filming a farrier’s rasp knife soon.

    4:10....I don't understand how/why you mark that point as 60 and so on. What is the start point?

      As stated in the video, this is based off of a design from www.stickbow.com/stickbow/features/flemishstring/flemishstring.html I’m honestly not sure where he got the math conversion from the layout to the string length, but it works well.

    Are the numbers ACTUAL string length? Or bow length -3" or 4"? Too many of these tutorials are setup for bow length and don't say anything about it.

    • @CraftingALifeIWant
      @CraftingALifeIWant  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching. The measurements reference bow length, not actual string length. The link in the description has more details around its construction.

      @@CraftingALifeIWant Thank you for sharing! And for the reply. I'll take a look for sure. I'm making a really nice one for a gift, and want to make sure that the actual string length is referenced so it can be used with any type bow. Some bows require shorter strings (recurve) compared to their AMO length, which throws the numbers off.
      Again, thanks for both the video and the response!!

      @@CrisAnderson27 my pleasure and good luck. I believe this jig was specifically for straight bows, there’s a bit of flexibility with regards to brace height that can be adjusted with twisting or untwisting the string, but I’d likely use a string I’d already made as a reference point for something more drastically different such as a recruve.

    • @CrisAnderson27
      @CrisAnderson27 Год назад +1

      @@CraftingALifeIWant I designed one loosely based on the numbers from the site you referenced ( ruclips.net/user/shortssdJ_CPeaKNI?feature=share ). The main difference is I put pins every half inch (for 1" increment strings), and gave myself a LOT more peg holes to give myself more flexibility. From kid's bows to English Warbows...I've got room lol. I've got string material coming in Tuesday, so I figure the best idea will just be to pick a number close to what I want and make a string to see how long it actually comes out. From there, I can make the final iteration.

    Quick question, so hopefully you can answer it for me, I am on my way out to the garage to make this. I actually found the blue print for it first, then seen you had a video on the exact one I am making. My question is this, you have a link to your buddy, neighbor who makes a 3 strand flemish twist for his new bow he just got done making. I had seen that video prior as well. So here is the question, his bow measured 67" between the nocks. Why did he make the string 67" I thought with everything I have read, 3" shorter for the Long Bow and 4" Shorter for the recurve.? Why would he want 3" of extra twist in the string or did I miss something in his video. I am only asking because I am on my way out to make this string jig, I already have the stuff laid out to make it and looking for clarification. I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question, but for the life of me, I don't know if this jig is factoring in shortened strings by 3-4 inches already, or if the triple twist string your buddy made requires the same length string or if any of this even makes sense to you?
    Thanks
    PS, Subbed your channel and clicked the bell, Have a blessed weekend and I hope you have had a wonderful thanksgiving weekend.

      The jig factors in the length difference for a long bow. The numbers on the jig indicate the length of bow the string is for, not the length of the string. Additionally, there is some adjustability with regards to number of twists that can lengthen or shorten a string in small increments by decreasing or increasing the number of times the string is twisted. Thanks for the sub. :)

      @@CraftingALifeIWant I have a 60in recurve and a 60in longbow. So, you would recommend using the same 60 mark on the board for both bows because there is adjustability in the number of twists you can give the string? I also just used finishing nails for the number marks. Is there any benefit to going with a single, moveable nail like you did?

    • @CraftingALifeIWant
      @CraftingALifeIWant  2 года назад

      @@ZombieOnaStick21 I’ve never strung a recurve, so unless the wider internet can help with the comparable string length between the two the best I can do would be to tell you try it out and let me know. Sorry I can’t be more help. In regards to the finish nails vs the one moveable, I’d already made one with finishing nails and noticed that the unused finishing nails would sometimes snag a line if I was going fast through the process. I also like to try to improve on designs if I make something more than once. Thanks for watching and let me know about the recurve vs long bow string length.

      @@CraftingALifeIWant It seems that the consensus on most of the trad forums is to just keep trying things until you get it right. So, that's what I'm going to do. I'll start with a longbow string and make adjustments from there for the recurve. I'm going to drill the holes out for the moveable nail, it sounds like it's worth it. I thought that maybe adding holes halfway between the original holes could be used as recurve measurements because they'd be 1in shorter. I'll let you know if it works out. Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it!

      Where did you find the blueprint?

  • @AnimaTriste
    @AnimaTriste 10 месяцев назад

    There is no way in hell this jig is going to produce strings long enough for bows with these markings.
    Not even when you take just 7 inches for both loops.
    Marking at 68 for example would produce string 62 inches long, which is too short even for recurves at this lenghth.
    Jig is not bad per se, just center markings are wrong.
    68 would be 66 or even 64, depends if you use 7 or 8 inches for both loops.

      It has literally made dozens of bow strings for several different length bows without problems. If you check the source link in the description you’ll find all of the details about how the dimensions were found. But thanks for your comment.
