When I moved to KL for my study, i literally cooked everyday. I could not even afford to buy nasi campur for an everyday lunch meal. 1.5k minimum wage? Most hawkers, small restaurants cant even pay their waiters that much these days with the crushing economy. Part-timers, hawkers usually just get 600-900 wage monthly.
I’m actually shocked that the price is quite expensive in Malaysia. Imagine a singaporean is earning SGD2000 and a Malaysian with RM2000… you can get $4 cai png in Singapore but Malaysia one is costing around RM9… Huge different
But generally speaking I'm a Wan Tan Mee kia, rarely eat Cai Png and I really can't tell that is much of a price difference when it comes to SG and JB Wan Tan Mee. Just more or less the same.
I used to serve at buffets, I thought the food difference between boys and girls wasn't a lot but I was wrong. The boys would eat at least like a full plate or heaping plate, the girls always asked for "less" and barely anything. I noticed as a girl the aunties at those shop would give less rice or less meat and give more for the boys and also charge more.

I think if you go to Indian and Malay stalls... you’d be charged differently when one is of a different ethnicity. And I have experience that over the years.
Economical rice is barely even economical in this day and age, I’d argue that they’re even less cost efficient than fast food. Now if you go into a mixed rice stall and get anything meat related that isn’t using minced meat, you’re not even getting any meat, you’re basically just gnawing on scraps on bones, and they still charge you what they charge for “meat”. And if you were to really get actual meat, like chicken thighs or breast, you’ll end up doubling your budget, at that point might as well take fast food, at least you get a burger with an actual piece of chicken.
The problem is that when inflation is at 5%, the hawkers raise their price by 10%... The math doesn't add up and hawkers are bracing for "future" inflation

mix rice is one of the few ecomical way to get your protein up compared to your carb. I prefer more protein than carb in my lunch, so my zap fan usually end up Rm10 to RM15
It could be a better survey, if there is a standardisation. After the first person has taken, a photo should be distributed for the rest of the members to see to memories the portion. Some come with office attires, straight from the bed, casual from home and dress to a party. I find out about the portion in certain particular shop, regardless portion is -/+, the price is the same. That means you pay the same price for half a scoop and a full scoop. The next question is how to determine the full scoop or how many pieces to maximise on the price paid for.
And one more tips.. if you reguarly go to the same shop.. when the boss already recognize you.. you may get some discount.. if can try to get to chit chat with the boss.. built up connection.. lama2.. the boss will give you discount.
You guys based in KD eh? Noticed a few vids shot in that area. I don't know the first shop but I used to frequent the second shop when I used to stay around there. Econ rice expensive now. Order a hot bowl of noodles is likely cheaper.

Another reason of the different prices could be the different people who is counting the price. I notice my usual mix rice place, the Aunty always charge more than the young men there.

The first shop obviously run by race 1 and second shop run by race 2. No need to say out also know. Just look on the politic in Malaysia, it exactly the same how they charge for chap fan.
Economy mix rice now is more like restaurant price. Malaysia economy is like non economy. It should have a fixed rate Ike how much is a meat , vege....etc. Halal food usually is a bit expensive than Chinese shop.
Some stalls say they give more for guys or if they see the guy is bigger size.. But I always think the price is calculated based on number of meat and veg.. like if 2 meat and 1 veg it would be ..this price..
Besides the primary issue of consistency in pricing, no comparison of prices should be done between the 2 shops as different dishes were being ordered! Do note that petai is an expensive food item, so is pork more costly than chicken.....
Lucky me ,living in Shah Alam ,most likely everything were cheap and tasteful.and if I want the cheaper one just drive to seksyen 7 ,nasi campur cost RM5-6 .
Can you make a video about taxes so that it teaches us teenagers / young adults that are still fresh in our working experiences/environment? Like what should I know about taxes when I started working, starting a small business etc It will be A big help since it's hard to find people to teach me about these things lol. Thanks a lot
Malaysia personal income tax % low. Max tax 30%. If got salary, HR will put PCB when salary above RM4k/month. As boss in company Sdn. Just avoid company tax by pay out net profits to owners. Leave net profits abit money in company. Pay yearly com tax Rm200.
If ur boss. Remember workers salary yearly increment. Only 1% over minimum pay/month X 12. Remember allocate salary bonus. Pay workers based on their KPis target hits or no. Half month bonus to max 3 months bonus.
chap fan started as 'economy rice' when i was a kid -- nothing economical about it now - bring your home cooked food boys and girls, many cannot tahan having lunch everyday by driving out in a bunch, looking for carparks and rushing your meals. I saw many Taiwanese colleagues before all bring home cooked food to workplace.
Every time I have mixed rice it's like they just decide the price based on their mood, I literally took very small portions and still got charged 10 ringgit. Not that mixed rice is really advisable to eat anyway because of how long they've been left out and Covid being a thing now.
Maybe the 1st hawker sensed something weird... When 1st guy come in order, then 2nd guy come in order same item etc..then sit together... So prices from initially high, then price goes lower.. When obviously the next people come in order the same thing must be something fishy also...
The only economical rice I can get in Klang is some restaurants near the company area in Klang u can find a food for quite cheap price mean less than RM7-8, and also can go to normal vegetarian restaurants also can get ecenomic rice for RM5 +- , because I always make my lunch below RM7 to make my health and financial stable
U think RM 9 to RM 10 is expensive for economical rice. I was shocked my son a secondary student was charge RM 21.00 for a plate of mixed rice. When ask why - they say the spare ribs he chose is expensive. Did not go back there again.
Singapore mix rice work differently - no self service, you point and stall owner pick. Then the dish is counted as either meat or veg (exception is fish, that is a different pricing). Then it is just counting of side dish to determine the price. I think this would standardize the cost.
Dollar for dollar, Malaysian food would be more expensive but if you cost in the exchange rate.malaysia would be paying more for the raw materials with which they buy especially from overseas.
I find the pricing at the first place is expensive for a piece of towfoo, minced meat dish and some vegetables. I will only patronise mixed rice stalls /shop which displayed their dishes prices, at least we know the estimated price. Anyway, we can't figure out how they calculate the charges by looking at the plate of food.
Cheap is a relative term. What do you expect so-called "fairly economy'? If you can't afford a big restaurant, then economy rice is still economy to most.
rm9 very cheap already laa.... i go to mamak get whole chicken thigh, veggie and salted duck egg + sirap limau already rm13++... few weeks ago i get whole chicken thigh and beef tripe + drinks got charged rm18.00. but it's nasi kandar restaurant la, the food is quite good. now everything expensive edi...
Yea right..but I notice shops in KL dont wanna scoop and put for customers because: 1. Need extra manpower..waste time 2. The price becomes standardised..so they cannot cheat and charge buyers whatever they like based on mood
Thumbs up if we should do nasi campur next 🤩

@Kelvin Chan I invest with expert Felix Hartmann, he’s the best
kota damansara PJU 5/20 opposite OCBC bank.
Haha precise ! Indeed !
Besides the primary issue of consistency in pricing, no comparison of prices should be done between the 2 shops as different dishes were being ordered! Do note that petai is an expensive food item, so is pork more costly than chicken.....
Peter...you have a distinctive orang kayak and towkay face mah 🤣🤣
Lucky me ,living in Shah Alam ,most likely everything were cheap and tasteful.and if I want the cheaper one just drive to seksyen 7 ,nasi campur cost RM5-6 .
That's why I only go Hiong Seng zap fan in KD, more standard and cheaper in price!
Why didn't you guys address the price discrepancy at the first stall?
By gram/scoop/giap, got standard one. Except those use feeling
This place way to familiar… is it 126 mix rice in sri petaling?
Can you make a video about taxes so that it teaches us teenagers / young adults that are still fresh in our working experiences/environment?
Like what should I know about taxes when I started working, starting a small business etc
It will be A big help since it's hard to find people to teach me about these things lol.
Not that mixed rice is really advisable to eat anyway because of how long they've been left out and Covid being a thing now.
hi! i paid 10.10 as well for my mixed rice. sadly it wasnt in RM. it was sgd. lololol jesus the inflation nowadays
I saw you changed the title of the video multiple times haha
should try at mamak/malay nasi campur stalls also
Maybe the 1st hawker sensed something weird...
Smile la and you get happy price
Singapore mix rice work differently - no self service, you point and stall owner pick. Then the dish is counted as either meat or veg (exception is fish, that is a different pricing). Then it is just counting of side dish to determine the price. I think this would standardize the cost.
I prefer this approach to..so no shocks while paying as the price would be standardised
Try out some Milo drinks in other stalls hehe
Cheap is a relative term. What do you expect so-called "fairly economy'? If you can't afford a big restaurant, then economy rice is still economy to most.
Is 2meat and 1 vegetable for 4.50 cheap in 2019
rm9 very cheap already laa.... i go to mamak get whole chicken thigh, veggie and salted duck egg + sirap limau already rm13++... few weeks ago i get whole chicken thigh and beef tripe + drinks got charged rm18.00. but it's nasi kandar restaurant la, the food is quite good. now everything expensive edi...
Long x makan mix rice at outside di , simply calculate
The first one I tried before at the same store and it really more expensive even thou just little portions, 2 meat 1 vege RM17.90 siaaa
It is now called mixed rice and not economy rice anymore for a reason anyway.
Based on iphone annectode i heard on9 Singapore cheaper then
lol i notice the same pattern on both shop. around kd side right?, i think mixed rice better they scoop for us so price is standardised
Yea right..but I notice shops in KL dont wanna scoop and put for customers because:
1. Need extra manpower..waste time
2. The price becomes standardised..so they cannot cheat and charge buyers whatever they like based on mood
At this point zap fan isn't worth it. You can get a bowl of noodles for like rm8-9 and the prices will be consistent whereas zap fan is a gamble
