For all GoPro users, I highly recommend their free "beta" firmware. It will bring your GoPro footage to the level of a large camera. There are plenty of tutorials on RUclips on the subject. I'm watching this on a 70-inch TV and the Dji image is shockingly oversharpened, as always.
Hi😀, beta firmware that I have to check. Thanks for the tip👍. I agree that the DJi has a slightly too sharp image. Here I filmed with sharpness set to -2. Well I added some sharpness in LOG profile. Thanks for watching😀
I have switched from GoPro to the DJI Action 5 because of GoPro's reliability issues, that being said previously I tried the Action 3 and the first one I got was defective, now currently I've already had to have the DJI Mic 2 replaced as well as it would not do the firmware update on the first mic.
Hi Espen, nice to see you again in your norwegian tech forrest. :-) My opinion on both cameras are... Go Pro: In normal mode it has real bad image quality. It looks soft, way too much contrast and with orange skin tones (WB off?). But it is not oversharpened like the DJI what is most important to me. I like your graded GoPro footage. It has good colour and good contrast. Image looks kinda natural to me. Regarding audio we ran through a norwegian waterfall with our first Sony X3000 without the case. It sounds still a bit muffled but it is still better than the Go Pro audio. I am not kidding with that. :-) I would sell the GoPro because of bad audio and without grading it looks bad. But with grading i like it. DJI: As you already know i don't like the digital oversharpened look at all. Around your head there are hard "double edge lines" from oversharpening. All forrest details have halos and look digital. Everthing looks flat to me because everthing is sharpened so much.I don't like the dull flat colours and contrast is missing imo. Is there any way to decrease edge sharpness with the DJI (maybe -30-50%).This is the least pleasant look of action cameras to me. Audio is good. Best action cam regarding a natural looking image imo: 1. Sony X3000 2. Go Pro but only Graded! 3. Insta360 4. DJI Action And i know we have different opinions on that. :-) But that's okay. Keep on testing. I like it very much. Have a nice evening. Lovely greetings from germany. :-)
Hi😀, yeah normal GoPro looks weird. Flat and graded much better. Dji Action 5 in normal looks good, but they need to fix the hdr look. Thanks for watching😀
I think it's been clear for a while - not least of all thanks to your excellent reviews - that if I decide to buy another action camera, it will be an Action 5 Pro. The quality is important, but I have also suffered so many failures over the years with an awkward user interface leading to subjects not being captured by GoPros. It's easy to overlook the fact that you are making these videos in a language other than your own. When you reveal that you "are freezing your ass off" it's even clearer what a great grasp of English you have, Espen. Getting colder here too - no snow in my neighbourhood yet !
Mike thanks for watching😀, GoPro cant be trusted and for me thats so important. The weather has suddenly turned here, is cold yesterday, today 8 degress. Strange. Have a wonderful sunday😀
I prefer DJI over GoPro, too. But I don't have a DJI action camera--just the Pocket 3 and drone. I do have GoPro Hero 12, but I don't have GAS anymore, so I'll just keep it, svaing myself some money.
The same for me, dji is a better camera. But Gopro looks good in good light. You dont need to upgrade from hero 12. All the same on hero 13. Thanks for watching 😀
Lots of challenging questions, plus the very subjective issues with colour grading. Just based on these shots, the DJi is more cinematic, and gives shots which would not look out of place if edited in with shots on higher spec cameras. I reckon the fixed focus is set to infinity, and the GoPro set to slightly closer up. A two position focus setting on the DJI would be very useful and expand how you could use it. Wet and windy here.
In normal color mode I choose GoPro Hero 13, in flat profile I choose DJI. I would never use the Action 5's normal color profile, but I would use the GoPro Hero 13's normal color profile when I don't want to do color grading.
On a nice day with good light GoPro looks good. But you need to set it to low sharpness. Action 5 looks good too, but dji need to give us option to turn off hdr.
DJI is just better than GoPro... stock. And there's no way around it really. This is coming from a GoPro 12 user. I love mine for those cinematic motovlogs during day time. I usually shoot at 4k/24 with a fixed Shutter Speed, ISO, WB and depending on the weather... 4/8/16/32 ND filters . I've never had reliability issues with it. It just works. I know this isn't the case for alot of people which makes me a bit sad. I'm trying to get hold of the Media Mod right now because of how good the audio is with one. Have you tried using ND filters on DJI Espen? I've heard some people mention that it looks weird. Might be because of oversharpening? HDR? I don't know... But stock settings wise the DJI looks miles better. Which is great for your regular joe getting into the vlogging scene.
Hi😀, thanks for watching and comment. For me Dji is better, sadly GoPro has not improved the camera since Hero 12. I have ND filters for action 4, I think it fits to A5. Gonna try that. Would be fun to see if the image can be better.
@@EspenJohan Hello! Yes! That would be great. I'd love to see a comparison with the ND filters. I did notice a difference in a motovlog I saw where clouds had better detail and the motion blur was miles better in the GP12/13. On the DJI the footage was really smooth and the shadows were way too dark and it ended up losing detail. But I mean at this point it's all about which is the better option for each person. And what conditions you'll be using it. The DJI seems a much better option for new/intermediate users while GP requires more tinkering to get good footage. I'm considering at this very moment a AcePro2 because of how miles better it is from the GP at low light recording. It's always nice to have more than 1 camera for each given situation.
Comparing them side by side the hero 13 has more detail, the action 5 looks digitally enhanced. Watching this on a big screen Im really considering returning my action5.
I see your point, but for me the action 5 looks good. But there are scenes where the hero 13 looks better. Dji need to do something with the hdr effect.
when walking the gopro is so bumpy, there is something wrong with the stab i think ? but tbh in day time the gopro warmer tones than the dji is more pleasant (imo) and once again we see that each camera has a different auto white balance that will mess up everything... gopro in day time is amazing ... i hope they improve for the gopro 14 otherwise i wont bother and test it
I agree, GoPro doesn't have the best stabilization (now it was set to default). Possible boost would have been better. But should work optimally in good lighting conditions in standard. GoPro has good image quality, especially in well-lit places. But I thought it was a bit warm and too much contrast. Not natural. White balance is a bit off on both, now it was set to auto. Something I think most people use. GoPro needs to do a lot of upgrades with the Hero 14. I am returning my Hero 13 today. Thanks for watching my friend😀
@EspenJohan what bothers me is that none has the auto white balance metering . I wish there is a dial on the side of the camera for the white balance hahahaha that will be easy to change it on the go
Hello Espen 😊 DJI is a very good camera. I am sorry for the Go Pro because they initiated action cameras market and I don’t see any serious update since Hero 10. I had Go Pro 10 and it worked well but only in the perfect light conditions. I need a camera also to perform in low light. Tomorrow I should get my Action 5. Why do you set up sharpness for -2 in your DJI camera? How looks an image with sharpness 0 or -1? Greetings and keep going with your healthy goal. Don’t give up
Hi Rafal, Dji is a very good camera. As always, it delivers the best natural image. I always set sharpness low. If I want I can add sharpness in post. I have not tried sharpness to 0 or -1. It is easy to add sharpness, absolutely impossible to take it away. GoPro does not deliver as expected, sad but true. They haven't come up with anything new since the Hero 10. Same sensor and processor. The GoPro is a good camera in good lighting conditions, but completely useless in low light. I exercise a lot and stay active. A bit difficult with the food, but I'm better than before. Thanks for watching😀
Both look much better in log. The DJI loses the hdr look and the GoPro loses the overly contrasty look (AP2 Also is a bit contrasty in my opinion). Does the GoPro have fast charging?
Hi Tim😀, I totally agree, both look much better in LOG. The funny thing is that I used the Dji Pocket 3 lute on the GoPro. I thought it looked the best. Think GoPro supports fast charging. I have a fast charger but it charges much slower than the A5. Thanks for watching😀
@@EspenJohan Yes. They may call that fast charging, but DC Rainmaker is saying it takes almost an hour in camera to charge to 80%. Once you get something that charges to 80% in 15 minutes it's hard to go back!

It delivers incredibly good image quality in well-lit conditions. But that is rarely the case in Norway. I was just hoping for more, little has happened since the Hero 10. That's probably the biggest problem. When it comes to which action camera is the best, it is up to each individual. If you like it best, then it's best for you. It's all about preferences. Pocket 3 is the best vlogging camera I agree. But it's not waterproof. Action 5 is overall the best action camera. Thats my opinion, maybe you disagree. You can use a action camera for vlogging.
@EspenJohan I agree and I disagree a little. The only reason is that the new action cameras that are somewhat surfacing nowadays don't really offer anything expect low light performance. On the other hand they don't offer a wide lens for example. So I don't know it looks like we are looking for some details that don't exist.
As regards of ur video... I'v no idea with DJI, only played with Gopro and Ace Pro..... I have a video that I side by side in day and night of gopro 13 and acepro 2... So this is your other channel: Cardiff Courier GIGS. GoPro was set to standard, not HDR. Sharpness was set to low and WB Auto. Just subscribed to your other channel👍
Hi😀, yeah I see that there is a update. Haven't tested it yet. The weather is terrible here, so im only indoor. As soon as the weather gets better im going out👍. Have a wonderful weekend 😀
GoPro has been irrelevant for years. I tried the 11 and returned it within the first month. The unreliability, battery issues. Junk, when it works, it can look good, but not worth it to me. I had a Dji Action 2, now rocking the Sony x3000 and a Pocket 3.
Yeah I do agree, I dont understand Gopro as a company. Why release a new camera every year without upgrading it. If you have x3000 and Pocket 3 your set. Have you tried cameras from Insta360?. Thanks for watching 😀
Sorry Go pro has failed big time especially in low light, biggest problem with Go pro's is reliability and filming in cold conditions where battery life is terrible.
@@EspenJohan I made the same experience years ago but now they might be better without data loss in the first day of using it. :-) But i will never buy a GoPro again. There was no german customer service at all. We had to wait 3 month to get our money back from GoPro.

On ur video above the dji looks better, altho it depends wat settings u have gopro on, is the above gopro set to HDR of natural/vibrant colour? cos the hdr mode on gopro is shit, and too is the other colour modes, flat is the only one that does'nt destroy the dark parts on the image, see for yourself.... if its true then all the reviewers that bad mouth gopro and dont have it set to flat have no idea wat their doing at all
So this is your other channel: Cardiff Courier GIGS. GoPro was set to standard, not HDR. Sharpness was set to low and WB Auto. Just subscribed to your other channel👍
@@EspenJohan My channels are very nesh, so dont expect any1 to subscribe unless their interested in that content :)
Hey Espen, how you doing bro, great content! Did you see the new firmware update of the diamond oa5? Are you going to make a review about it?
Hi😀, yeah I see that there is a update. Haven't tested it yet. The weather is terrible here, so im only indoor. As soon as the weather gets better im going out👍. Have a wonderful weekend 😀
@EspenJohan oh i see, then stay safe indoors, when whether gets better you can make that test, looking for it, have a nice weekend too😃
After Hero 10 there haven't been any point of buying a new gopro, and hero 10 is also a terrible camera.
They all the same since hero 10👍
THUMP UP !!!
Thank you 😀
GoPro has been irrelevant for years.
@EspenJohan I tried the insta360 x4 for a month and ended up returning it. Didn't like the workflow and my laptop didn't like the 360 files
@@EspenJohan I just bought a used x3000 last month, but it's stuck in our postal system, they're on stike....
Picture from GP13 looks better.
It's good in good light👍
Sorry Go pro has failed big time especially in low light, biggest problem with Go pro's is reliability and filming in cold conditions where battery life is terrible.
I agree, GoPro is for me a camera you cant trust. And thats really important.
@@EspenJohan
I made the same experience years ago but now they might be better without data loss in the first day of using it. :-)
But i will never buy a GoPro again. There was no german customer service at all. We had to wait 3 month to get our money back from GoPro.
Gopro 13 looks waaayyyy better!!
Gopro has good image quality in good light👍. Whats your favorite, normal or flat profile
@EspenJohan From what I saw in your video even in shadow areas the Gopro performed better.
