In 81 in high school in guitar class, a guy came in with i think killers, and said you got to listen to this English band, sound a little like UFO, but no keyboards, are teacher a UFO fan and so was all of us put it on, and said wow who's that drummer, and this much heavier than UFO but you can hear a little influence, had no idea Harris was such a big fan, and not to long g after, THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST came out, and the world explode,

Piece of Mind, shortly before Powerslave came out. It was only the second album I purchased with my own money, and obviously you can guess what the next four were.

I started listing to hard rock at a young age around 10 or 11 years old. I would stay up late to watch Don Kirshner's Rock concert, Midnight Special and later on Night Flight to check out what groups were on. Anyway, I would seek out hard rock or metal bands by the art on album covers. One day I was at the mall's record store and going through a bunch of albums I came across Maiden Japan, listening to Running Free and Wrathchild, I was hooked. UP THE IRONS.

My brother bought every album when they came out. I remember checking out his records and tapes when he was away. It was so cool just checking out the cover art and Iron Maiden always stood out.

1988 - I brought my first Iron Maiden album, Seventh Son, I was a causal fan before, but this cemented my fandom. In fact I went to the Monsters of Rock Castle Donnington in August 88 and saw Maiden headline. Fantastic.

Seeing the video for Run to the hills what's my first introduction to iron maiden then I was lucky enough to see them open for Judas priest in November 82 and have been a fan ever since. If you listen to the lyrics it's clear that whoever's writing them is a history buff.

    I'm having great fun listening
to the 2 rejected and underrated SUPER ALBUMS -
No Prayer For The Dying (1990) & Fear Of The Dark (1993).
    All killer no filler.
I don't care what puritans think.
    I love these 2 albums.
How about you guys and girls ?
Anyone love No Prayer + Fear ?

Yep, Beast was my first. In Australia There were a few rock shows on TV that played all sorts of songs and styles of the times from '82. One day they played the film clip for NOTB and, my mind was totally blown, the spooky opening spoken dialogue, the main riff , the drums, , the guitar sounds , Bruces voice, the scream and then the unrelenting energy and powerhouse of a groove when the band all jump in,.it opened my doorway to Maiden and Heavy Metal , I got the record as soon as i could, and was knocked out by it. the track NOTB later appeared as the opening track on a great Hard Rock/Metal compilation by K-Tel called,...um,...."Heavy" which came out in '83 , and made the song reach even further out into the music world , this Brittish Steamroller was well into high gear , and just getting started...I remember in music class , us guys learning the drums were trying to do Clives awesome intro to The Prisoner to impress our peers, and of course the girls with that killer kick ,snare /crash cymbal work with the tom rolls, haha! ahh,.good times.

Seen Maiden open for Priest in Sept ‘82, in Dayton OH. They were on the NOTB tour and Priest were touring the SFV album. Ive been to a LOT of concerts from the late ‘70’s to mid ‘80s, and that show is probably the best show I ever seen. Very wild night in Dayton. 🎟️

Being from the UK, I was aware of Iron Maiden as soon as Running Free was released as a single and the band made its debut appearance on Top of the Pops. I was also aware of Bruce Dickinson when he was in Samson, and he was so much better than anyone else around, so it seemed only natural when he replaced Paul Di'Anno. I hadn't been sure about Iron Maiden up to that point, but as soon as I heard Run to the Hills it seemed obvious the band had gone to another level. The Number of the Beast confirmed that. But what really convinced me was hearing a BBC recording from the band's set at the 1982 Reading Festival. Hearing the band, the response of the crowd, in that context was what made me realise that here was something I wanted to be a part of.

NOTB and Dio Holy diver were introduced to me by a couple of older friends. A couple of joints later, changed my life definitely. Btw, after a couple of said joints, I thought the devil was outside waiting to get me after listening to it! 🤣🤣

My Maiden discovery was Maiden Japan, Killers, NOTB, then on from there. When NOTB came out I had no idea who Dickinson was or where DIanno went, but took me a few spins to get accustomed to. Piece of Mind solidified my love of maiden.

Hit Parader, Creem, Circus… there became a ton of them. Between three crates of albums I got at a garage sale (courtesy of Paul Hollister’s big brother - $.50 per album!) and the bands mentioned in these magazines, I was set.

The first thing I heard from Maiden was Wrathchild, and I dug that song! I didn't really like the first 2 albums though. Then I saw the Numbers tour. Gave me an attitude adjustment, lol. I agree with you. Every freakin song kicked! Loved it!

That's funny when your Sidekick there said you know how did you get into Iron Maiden? Same exact way by seeing the cool kids wearing the Iron Maiden Number of the Beast shirt! I hadn't even heard them yet and I already knew that that those guys just had had to be cool!!! Then by some freak of nature I happened to hear Run to the Hills late, late late at night on KLOS. That in and of itself was pretty much a miracle at that time because there was just no heavy metal on the radio in 1982 going on 83! You might get to hear a little bit of Scorpions and maybe a little bit of Judas Priest but that was it and very infrequent and usually the most poppy song on the album. But Iron Maiden absolutely never! But it was one of the greatest most influential albums of my life! Right beside Van Halens Fair Warning! I remember when i 1st heard Metallicas Garage days re-visited right after Cliff passed away. R.I.P. brother! and hearing them playing the beginning of Run to the Hills (badly) at the end of the tape and laughing my ass off! Just so influential!!! Im sorry, but if you dont like Maiden, then Metal is not really a part of your soul! 😂
