Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti: A 1975 Review Through the Lens of the Ten Commandments
I was 18 when this came out and excited to have a new album. I was still grieving the bands break up 2 years earlier. I especially liked “Ozone Baby”- I thought it should have been on In through the out door. Great bass and nice solos. I also liked “I can’t quit you baby” but thought perhaps it was a bit overdone and heavy. (It was recorded at a sound check). The rest was ok, really well produced. But it was overall not up to the usual standard.
Chris slade played with tom Jones 1963-1969
I've worked on many cassette tapes and did emergency operations. I have a tape that's twisted in the middle and goes on for a lot of tape. It comes and goes but I can fix it, I'm just too lazy to do it because I know it's gonna be problematic. I have always used Scotch tape and I put the Scotch tape on the reverse side that doesn't play and it works
Poor Tom...that glistening steel string sound.
That album bombed big time. Albums usually sold from $7 to $10 at the time. A month after CODA came out, record stores were selling it for 0.99 cents because it wasn't selling.
I got to see Faces on Labor Day weekend 75! Skynyrd opened the show, and they were in their prime, imo. Next was Sabbath! That was the first time I saw them, and they blew my mind! So fn good! Faces hit the stage, and I liked them a lot, but it was hard to follow Sabbath that night. Faces had a ton of good ole rock n roll songs!
My brother bought every album when they came out. I remember checking out his records and tapes when he was away. It was so cool just checking out the cover art and Iron Maiden always stood out.
What a fantastic video....I love how stable Jimmy's answers were and how honest he came across. He was stern with the artificial ones and enthusiastic with the smart ones. I remember it was Roy Harper that helped him get out of "hiding" so to speak just to get those gears running again.
Wow I loved Hard Luck Woman when I was a kid ......Your weird😮
Hooligan is the second best song on the album... Almost Human is all KISS...Chicken salad, Roast Beef..........😮😮😮😮😮
Tony Iommi is a riff master. He's the architect of heavy metal guitar. Randy Rhoads was brilliant. Nobody builds a music collection around the babbling of a critic!
Also did Deathwish 2 soundtrack in '82
81 not 82
This is my new favorite channel.
Human psychology. People judge and comment based upon , Morality ,good, bad etc. So primary thinking is, oh comment left or right. Tertiary thinking it's just a song, don't judge others until you judge yourself. Musicians are Tertiary, open minded and non-judgemental. Critics and most non educated people over hype everything.... 🙏✌️🤘🇦🇺 . GREAT CONTENT AGAIN.....
Such a great channel. Thanks for all these Zeppelin clips. I appreciate it. I have huge Zeppelin magazine/book collection that I’ve been collecting since 1981. I’ve slowed down with my Zeppelin collecting the past 10 yrs, but I still love reading about them and listening to Zeppelin bootlegs. Cheers ✌️
The Faces were the outcome of The Small Faces , the remnants of The Yardbirds (Rod Stewart never wanted to sing publicly, Beck and Jimmy made him "the Faces" . 🙏✌️🖖🏴❤️
The cover talk deserves a definition of the title, and a quick delve into the boys post-breakup, up to this release.
I have this interview from CREEM magazine. Liz Derringer, Rick's wife, conducted the interview which is why this interview is probably the most frank and forthcoming that he ever done to this day.
Simple question, what band does the guy play in?
@@vvvhhhhhbb Ozzy's first two solo albums
It’s nice to see someone enthusiastic about a Led Zeppelin album that doesn’t get much love. This is a powerful version of I Can’t Quit You Baby. Poor Tom is the most unique song. The drum shuffle beat combined with the acoustic guitar is something that wasn’t attempted much for its time. As you said, it would’ve fit in great on Led Zeppelin III. It probably would’ve made a better closer than Hats Off To Roy Harper. Walter’s Walk would’ve probably fit in well on Houses Of The Holy. If they fit more songs on the album back then, it would’ve fit in well after The Crunge. Bonzo’s Montreaux is interesting, like you said. The 3 songs in side 2, which were outtakes of In Through The Out Door, sound a little more back to basics than most of the album. The 1st 2 sound like they could’ve been a single. In my opinion, they should’ve been singles. Ozone Baby is a fun song which seems to point the way to Robert Plant’s solo career. Darlene is an excellent honky tonk blues song. Wearing And Tearing, I will agree with you, was the weakest song here in my opinion. However, if someone loves it, great. I’m glad Hey Hey What Can I Do got to be on the remastered CD, where I think it belonged. White Summer/ Black Mountain Side is a plugged in take of 2 folk songs. Traveling Riverside Blues is a tour de force. It’s one of those rare Zeppelin songs that you can dance to! Baby Let’s Play House is a nice bluesy ballad, made popular by one of Percy’s heroes Elvis Presley. While we’re on the subject, happy belated birthdays to Jimmy Page and Elvis (in Heaven).
In 1998 my mate brought over the number of the beast and that was me maiden all the way
Absolute crap and I’m a zip afficianado
I've thought about this a bit. It's not enough to just be objectively "the best" of any musical role. Early Quiet Riot as an example; had an insane talent set with Kevin, Rudy, and Randy all under the same banner, but it wasn't till they parted ways that every one of them found real career takeoff.
...Swan Song could have been added but......time had to go on huh, then we find Swan Song! Swan Song would have been a Stairway or Levee level of Album long play. Swan Song instead of Wearing & Tearing would have been EPIC.
Exactly why I always thought music critics are a joke. Music is to much of a personal taste. Hard to imagine anyone not being impressed with Randy.
I've also got the original album and it looks brand now. Number of the beast classic album. Mike UK 🇬🇧
Just to say that tells me all I need to know,.
I love Led Zeppelin and Page but Coda is crap and should have never been released.
Growing up as a huge Led Zeppelin fan, I was disappointed by this album. But on the other hand the 3 cd collection was what this album should have been. I always thought "Hey hey What Could I Do?" should have been included on the lp. the 3 cd set corrects this.
And through it all up here in Michael Anthony has always been the stand-up guy.
NO. Clickbait success !!
It was regarded as a way to pay off a massive tax bill to the UK government
Black n Blue was a Great live band here in Port , Or. back in the day..Great job on this ..
CODA - Even a collection of Zep cast offs blows 99% of everything else away!!! ✌️
It’s shocking how good they were. Every band ever wants the 10 mil dollar bomb track that the kids will listen to 50 years later and that the radio plays for generations. Zeppelin has around THIRTY such tunes. It was lightning in a bottle for 12 years. What they achieved musically will never be duplicated. The GOATs of rock n roll and it isn’t even close 🤘🏻
Yes, complete random turd, would have been better off releasing some live performance material as a better homage to Bonzo.
Discovered Kiss with I was made for loving you and bought Dynasty. Then came Unmasked and I liked that one better. Then I bought the Love Gun-album and immediately hated I was made for loving you...
Firstly, I'm NOT a KISS fan - not really. There're a couple of songs I like, but I'm more interested in what makes them tick. That being said, I was in a deep funk earlier this week & feeling miserable. Just for the hell of it, I watched "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" for the first time. OK, so it's no "GWTW", but neither is it "Plan Nine From Outer Space". The plot is thin & predictable, the dialogue is sometimes laughable, but dammit, the movie's FUN!!!! I felt so much better after watching it, that I downloaded it to watch again when I'm down. The band needs to lighten up, & not take themselves so seriously. Although maybe not quite "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" status (yes, I watched that, too), it'd be an ideal movie for midnight showings. Thanks guys, for the mood boost! Love ya!!! ❤❤❤❤
Another GREAT album. As far as listenening time I've listened to that LP as much as any of them.
Why do we care? I was born in '67. And a huge Zep fan...I don't even care. Whats the point?
Warner Brothers.
The re-release included "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do", "White Summer/Black Mountain Side", "Travelling Riverside Blues" and "Baby Come On Home" which elevated this album even more.
Filled a contractual obligation...end of story.
In 81 in high school in guitar class, a guy came in with i think killers, and said you got to listen to this English band, sound a little like UFO, but no keyboards, are teacher a UFO fan and so was all of us put it on, and said wow who's that drummer, and this much heavier than UFO but you can hear a little influence, had no idea Harris was such a big fan, and not to long g after, THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST came out, and the world explode,
Why have your articles become so short, I always liked your stories, but now about ready to unsubscribe.
I hated Sammy as a solo artist. He was great in Montrose especially the 1st album. 1st Chickenfoot album had a couple ok tunes….but I just couldn’t get into him or his guitar playing, or any of his solo albums. I mean no harm…just not for me. I liked a bit of DLR’s solo career….but DLR was the ingredient that made VH so big! M.Anthony was part of that too…those harmonies! Give me Fair Warning all day long! Then add in VH 1, then 1984, the WACF, then Diver down and finish up with VH 2!
Killers was the first album I bought when it came out, Iron maiden I had on tape 😅
I'm pretty sure this version of I Can't Quit You Baby is from a sound check before a show.
For God's sake , the lyrics are in the Bible, it's about a nightmare,
Love both but DLR kinda continued that early VH spirit. Van Halen turned into keyboard driven hit machine (OK, 1984 had Jump and I'll Wait). But like I said I love both and hadn't been introduced to Sammy Hagar otherwise. Brilliant vocalist, technically better than Roth but Roth had unmatchable character.
