Not sure if this is true, but I heard during the late 1800s-early 1900s that the idea of putting cards in the pre rolled cigarette packs is the reason people took to buying pre rolled as opposed to rolling their own. People were skeptical of letting other people roll their smokes, so the idea of getting free cards was enough of an incentive to try them.

Cards were issued as stiffeners to the packs in the early 1880's to protect cigarettes from squashing. Companies then hit on the idea to use the stiffener as advertisements and add subjects of interest to smokers. Beauties and personalities were amongst some of the early subject matter followed by a plethora of . Nothing to do with rolling your own as far as I know. No matter what the brand of cigarette or tobacco is, if the back has a factory number on it then it was issued by the American Tobacco Co.

I am not a baseball memoribilia person but understand why people collect items that remind them of the past or are interesting to them. @@JunkWaxHero My best so far is a SGC 5 Sovereign Red Dooin Philadelphia, but my favorites are the horizontal cards. I have 4 or 5 of those. Most of mine are 1s, 2s and 3s and I love them. Anything above a 6 seems insane for a 110+ years old card!?? Who would have thought to preserve something that came in a ciggy pack, bag of bread etc? My uncle had them envelopes in a cigar box. Was fun opening those boxes, as I remember seeing these cards in the early 70s and he would hold them by the edges like the were fragile. Haha! Good memories! Appreciate the response and love the attic find vids. The card part of this collection wasn't in the attic or a secret, it was just put away since the 70s in cigar boxes. Two rooms full of books, mags, commerative plates etc.

Any thoughts on what was the best way to get adds, early on, without a pandemic? 😂

@@JunkWaxHero I was hoping by the end of the year. I’m going to start posting some super rare video game content before the Football season starts.. that might help gain new audiences. Pretty sure the RUclips algorithm is broken. I don't know what would ever make it think I wanted to know about baseball cards. I don't think I've ever even owned one. Even accidentally.
