Hey Dagan! Do you know if anyone has done an ELECTRIC comparison between XT and XS? When I compared the accoustic XT and XS, I was deeply disappointed with the XS because I heard such great stuff. 1) First off, the XT’s are more totally balanced and the XS leans toward treble tones, so there was less bass. I prefer balanced strings, so I’m not sure what’s accounting for the difference - maybe it’s the different cores, coating process, or both? 2) The XS was WAY too slick. My fingers were sliding off the sides while playing. I never had that problem with the XT’s. 3) I do like the tighter response that sounds a bit less muddy on the XS. I wish they could do that with the XT and they’d be perfect for me. So that bummed me ever so slightly about my beloved XT’s because now I feel like I’m missing out on a great XS feature, lol. 4) The XS had to be changed much sooner than my XT’s. The XT’s can make it 2-3 months no problem. The XS barely made it to 6 weeks. I thought they were supposed to last even long than the XT, but apparently not. I don’t have sweaty/dirty hands and the conditions were identical - guitar on my stand in my apartment’s bedroom. The XS coating was coming off faster, which meant they started corroding sooner. The strings just gave out and started to sound nearly dead around week 4. I’m probably missing something, but those were my main takeaways. So I went back to using the XT’s. The big bummer about being a little muddier sounding is a trade off I’m okay with. They were just too slick and too treble-leaning, among the other issues. I’m hoping D’addario will take what they’ve learned with the XS and figure out how to tighten the string response so they’ll also sound as clear as the XS while retaining everything else I love about them. That being said, I’m now looking for similar comparisons with the electric XT/XS counterparts. I can’t seem to find ANY side-by-side video demos and longevity tests. Do you think that’s something you can do for a future video? Thanks!
Favorite drop tuning for 6 string is Drop C, 7 string is probably Drop A or G, standard tuning is C standard on an acoustic and I’m stuck between E and Eb for electric

I've been an Elixir 13-56 user for years but I've been having a real problem with breaking strings recently. I tried the XS strings, they have a great tone, they've lasted longer but I feel like they don't have as much "power".
I have sweaty hands and normal strings last only for a week on my guitar. I usually use elixirs and they have been the best on my strat and my acoustic guitars. Ill try these soon when I can get them. Thanks for the video

I'm very skeptical. I've been "forced" to use elixir strings for years because uncoated strings last like a week for me. I don't know what kind of curse it is. Even the "mildly" coated strings like d'addario XT, who they say last very long, no difference whatsoever. I'm annoyed by the compromises though. Elixir strings are hard, the 09 feel like 10, and they're more slippery too which is not all bad, but bends are though for me. Also the sound is not as good as uncoated. If they really made some actual progress on this regard then I'll be happy to buy these strings for life, but so far many have promised and none has delivered, not even close to elixir's endurance. And cmon d'addario, we want those for electric.
"Feels like playing a proper guitar" - a spot on description of epiphone guitars, however, imho, nothing can save epiphone acoustics, even the best of strings.
I have always wondered why Acoustic guitars have 4 bronze / wound + 2 thin strings while electric guitars have 3 bronze / wound strings and 3 thin strings. can someone tell me why that is?
Historical evolution. Back in the 1940's string sets were 13+ acoustic gauge so the G pretty much needed to be wound. Bending and vibrato weren't common techniques until the 60's rock'n'rollers. They cheated by shifting 13+ gauges across one row and using lighter banjo strings for the thin E. Effectively they created hybrid 9/10 gauge sets, with unwound 3rds. String makers saw the market. The rest is history. Unwound leccy 3rds just stuck around. You can still get wound 3rd leccy sets if you shop around. It's all a preference thing. Plain G's are easier to bend and less finger noise. Wound G's sound a bit darker and fuller (jazz players) and intonate maybe a smidge better. Some think a wound 3rd is a more even tonal spread across the 6 than an unwound. Try one at some point, you might like it, or loathe it. It's all a personal taste thing and what you feel - there's no right/wrong (despite the heat it generates on forums lol).
