- Super Mario Odyssey is filled with some of the most interesting and unique levels in the entire series. Among all of the kingdoms in Odyssey however, the one that I think may just be the most unique is the Luncheon Kingdom! This is meant to be Mario Odyssey’s lava world, though many people may not realize it just based on how different it is from any other game’s lava world. So in today’s episode of Level by Level, we’re going to be analyzing the aesthetic, level design, story, and moons of the luncheon kingdom to determine what makes the luncheon kingdom Mario Odyssey’s most unique kingdom!

Level by level really is one of the most interesting series currently on youtube
I always thought luncheon was meant to act as a Mountain world, considering the whole point is climbing to the top of a mountain.
It’s sort of a combo of both which is really neat!

As someone who LOVES the luncheon kingdom, I’m glad it’s getting the recognition it deserves.
I hated this one the most out of all the kingdoms, the music was fun tho

Creative kingdoms like this is why I'd like to see a sequel to Odyssey
I'd like to see something like Bowser's Fury, with the uniqueness of Odyssey, and locations from different Mario Games. Would really help if it fused elements of different games' worlds. Just think about Isle Delfino and Bowser's Theme Park from 3D World mixed together for one of the areas, and an area where there are some galaxy like planets to explore in the sky, alongside floating sky islands, (like ToTK but with Galaxy elements) And don't forget Peach's Castle being the starting area. Hopefully the open world is interactive, and can change (like Lapcat or Sand kingdom at night) and also has 2D sections based on the one's in Odyssey, and something from the 2d Mario Wonder.
This truly was an unforgettable luncheon
Honestly, the fact that I usually consider the Moon Kingdom cave to be the lava world goes to show how distinct Luncheon is from that theme

The most brilliant part is that the lava levels in the Mario games are typically daunting from an aesthetic standpoint but this game took the concept and made everything cutsie while leaving the gameplay formula and challenging difficulty curve intact, which is kinda terrifying in its own way honestly and I love it. It reminds me of the cybugs from Wreck-It Ralph.
I have played luncheon kingdom so much that I don’t even like it anymore but I can’t deny it’s still an amazing kingdom

I wonder if the devs saw an unpolished version of the world where it was all polygonal and the lava was the wrong color and they went 'Stop right there! It's perfect!'

I really like the Luncheon Kingdom, it's just something so different from anywhere else in the Mario series. The music is really cool, especially since it was all made from kitchen utensils! It stands out above many other places in Mario.

Don’t know if others also experience this, but the vegetable rocks on this kingdom make me feel this crunchy feeling in my mouth.
I always imagine myself biting them and I can feel the crunch oddly.

i always thought of luncheon kingdom as a mix between sweet sweet galaxy and melty molten galaxy from super mario galaxy, just far easier and far bigger. good content man, even if a lot of the stuff you say about this kingdom is heavily overexaggerated

While I definetly do prefer the pronounciation of Lunch-un, Lunch-ee-on actually might be correct. Pronounciations can be really weird sometimes.

Reminds me of how they used pickaxes in the Stone Talus miniboss theme in Breath of the Wild, since they're giant living rocks basically.

Also in the 2nd path in the luncheon kingdom actually blocks off 2 checkpoints in the kingdom, the Cheese rocks checkpoint and the town checkpoint
I love the colors and the gimmick of it, and how it’s part cartoony and geometric shapes with vidid colors
Tbh I never even registered it as a lava world I just thought it was a new food world, but now that you explain it that’s so cool
Luncheon is my favorite level. It also kind of reminds me of Lake Lapcat from Bowser's Fury due to the different paths that are somewhat linear.

When I first saw some footage of this kingdom, I didn't like its looks and thought it would probably be my least favourite kingdom. But when I first played it, I instantly fell in love with its music, gameplay, theming and even its looks and it quickly became my favourite. Perfect example of "Never judge a book by its cover"!
