I see you are using baby oil for the brake fluid. Does it work great? Why not just a mineral oil (laxative) from a drug store? I did some research, and it seems like the mineral oil used as laxative has very similar characteristics to Shimano oil, while baby oil viscosity was a bit different. Also, drug store mineral oil is cheaper I think.

Yes, baby oil works but this bike is not used for aggressive riding. The mineral oil from a drug store would be better, so if you can get it, then use it.

Hey buddy, So you can actually refill the oil from the reservoir itself if I'm not wrong?

Thanks for your video! I have black oil all over my back brake callipers (not sure if that is the right word but the bit down on yhe wheel) and no pressure when i pull the brake. I assume the brake fluid has leaked down out the bottom. Any tips or advice on how to fix this? Many thanks

Abi, the key is trying to find the source of the leak. From your description it sounds like you either have a hole in the cable or your leaking from the point where the cable inters the caliper, which would be because of a bad seal. A third option would be leaking from around the piston (the part that moves in and out behind the brake pad.) if it’s either number one or two then a new, shimano specific brake line will fix you up.

yeah but why not top off the naked reservoir before putting it back together - you know bleeding's a pain in the ass...

You should top it off, but adding the cap will introduce air into the system so you’ll have to bleed it anyway.
