This scene is beautiful. He's in love with her and it's the truest and most amazing thing he's ever experienced. She is listening to a man who's truly desperate for her, and it's something she's yearned for so long to feel again, to feel that desired, but she tried to settle for fear that she never would.
The dialogue (on paper) could've - very easily - been extremely pretentious; but the performances and everything we've learned about the characters up to this point make the actual execution just great.
Why couldn't just one son-of-a-bitch have said those words to me once? This movie is platinum. The writing couldn't be better, Cher was at the peak of her beauty, and Nick Cage's mannered acting fit his character like the glove he had to wear over his hand.
It's so true. "Love" sure wrecked my life but I'm still holding out hope for one great love before my life is over. I had it once, but he died young and I made terrible life choices after that out of heartbreak. For now, it's safer to be alone.

A basic lie about fairy tales is the saying and they lived happily ever after suggesting that they never had any problems or serious problems. That's not reality. Lust and idolatry break your heart. He is making a groundless case for fornication and adultery. He is following his feelings instead of sound judgment and wisdom. Responsible behavior is always best. Man, this scene came to mind two days ago. I saw Moonstruck in the theater in 1987, one of the best romance comedies of that decade. It had Cage's breakthrough, remarkably being only 23 at time and playing a 40ish Cher's love interest without showing the huge age gap. Four stars.
Not just those two lovers, the wonderful supporting actors. The score, the music, let it me be please God let it be me, the beautiful opera love scene, heartbreaking, Cher's tears , all making a wonderful movie, so brilliant, bringing everything together.

Somebody on Twitter the other day told me I look like I'll die alone. It was unkind, and although I didn't show it at the time, it hurt my feelings. It reminded me of how badly I would get teased for my looks in middle school, before I grew into them and became a woman men considered to be exceptionally pretty. But, those voices stuck in my head, telling me how worthless I was, and it caused me to settle. I'm married, but, I'm not happy. I have rarely felt anything special, and I'm getting older now. The comfort zone can be quite alluring. It goes hand in hand with inertia; very difficult to break those invisible chains, but once it's done, you ask yourself why you didn't do this a long time ago. This has been my experience, at least. I'm not one for overused clichés, but, there are a couple that I think are solid nuggets of wisdom. One of them is, "We miss 100% of the shots we don't take." So simple, yet so profound. I've rarely regretted taking my shot; it's the shots I was too timid/busy/anxious to take that I regret. A couple sometimes hit me first thing in the morning, and I wish I could frontload a few more years back onto my life, go back, and do it to it.
