CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ronny (Nicolas Cage) recounts for Loretta (Cher) the story of his maimed hand.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
When there's a full moon over Brooklyn, anything can happen, and everything happens in the neighborhood where widowed bookkeeper Loretta Castorini (Cher) lives. First, Loretta agrees to marry a man she does not love, Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello), simply because he knows how to propose properly. Before the wedding can take place, Cammareri must visit his dying mother in Sicily. In his absence, Loretta is supposed to try to patch up the differences between Johnny and his brother, bakery operator Ronny Cammareri (Nicolas Cage). Having never forgiven Johnny for indirectly causing the accident that crippled him, Ronny flies into a rage whenever his brother's name is mentioned. He does, however, fall for Loretta like a ton of bricks. After a torrid affair, Loretta tries to avoid Ronny out of respect to Johnny, but he's just too fascinating to resist. Meanwhile, Loretta's father (Vincent Gardenia) is fooling around with his mistress Mona (Anita Gillette), while Loretta's mother (Olympia Dukakis) is wooed by a college professor (John Mahoney). These brief flings are forgiven and forgotten, but there's still the delicate situation of Loretta being in love with her future brother-in-law. A now-classic romantic comedy, Moonstruck won Oscars for Cher, Olympia Dukakis, and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley.

I DON'T CARE! I AIN'T NO FREAKING MONUMENT TO JUSTICE!
one of my favorite lines in all of cinema
I've said it often over the years.
Yes!
Mine too!
that is sooo true!
This is one of my favorite quotes, and I've used it often, and at the same volume and energy as Nic Cage! (I'm kinda in love with Ronnie too!)
They way he explains his workplace injury is how I am going to explain my future workplace injuries.
Make sure you have an open canister of flour nearby, for drama!
God, I love Moonstruck. One of my comfort movies. One of my favorite things about this scene is the fact that Chrissy, the girl who earlier in the scene Ronny asks to "hand me the big knife!" and at the end here admits her love for him to the other woman, never appears in the movie again.
comfort movie. That's an accurate way to put it. This movie takes me home.
I told my wife, "I wanna know Chrissy's story".
0:48 the way he blinks before he starts yelling gets me every time
I NEVER NOTICED UNTIL NOW 💀
*blink*
um ok?
Like a wire in him got overheated and snapped.Lo!
"This wood...is fake."
Hahahaha yeah, i died and come to look for this comment.
I think the ambiguity of his acting is that there really are people in the world who are this histrionic, overdramatic people, and Cage seems to capture that person perfectly. He perfectly captures the every day overdramatic person who's forcefully trying to instill his life and self with character and narrative.
This was just a random accident, and it motivates the driving conflict of the movie lol
Such excellent acting. Both by Cher and Nicolas Cage. One hell of a great movie!
World class acting at the age of 23
Sooo true
Shame about the recent films but thats life.
Loved the movie so much that we named a sailboat after it "COSMO'S MOON" !!
Should have been nominated for best actor on this scene alone. Shame on the Oscar's for overlooking this performance.
Jonathan Tullin That’s because he can’t act. He never could
@@Happyboymargarine Wrong. He is a great actor. One of the greatest actors of the last 40 years.
If there’s an overactors Oscar, he should have won. Hands down. Wooden or not.
We watch every winter season . My family can recite these lines !
God damn that’s fine acting by Cage.
I don't know why people make fun of this man's acting. Nicolas Cage is one of the greatest actors to ever do it.
I like him a lot
Who makes fun of his acting?
Woooow he's priceless!!
Chrissy talking about this in the end sounded like a kid doing a book report in front of class
It's so weird. Like it's there just in case the audience didn't pick up on anything she said from Johnny's performance, and it won Best Writing.
People always focus on when he's over the top but what makes him a great actor is what comes after that.
It seems to me that Nick's characters all have the same problem : they're crazy and they're lonely because they can't find somebody as crazy as them to understand them or with a strong enough mind to help them to find peace.
So perfectly put..
How he didn't win all Oscars past, present, and future for this scene no man will ever know.
funniest scene ever
This wood is fake?
Shouldn’t that be this hand is fake?
HE DON'T CARE. HE AIN'T NO FREAKING MONUMENT TO GRAMMAR!
@@Falcrist 🤣🤣🤣 hilarious
I think the idea his that it is actually some sort of plastic made to look like wood. Basically a double fake hand.
My question is what kind of bread was Johnnie getting and was he going to be charged for it?
Hahahaha…you really made me chuckle! Danks
Omg Cher and Olympia in that movie.
Great acting
I’m not a Cher fan but Cher definitely deserved that Oscar. Cage too.
Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction was far better than Cher that year
@@Tonycillian5 I can’t disagree. Glenn was great. But sadly . . . you know that’s how subjectivity is. Unfortunately the academy award gets / has a more cache than say box office receipts or people’s choice. I think expectations for pop star Cher were much lower than for established actress Glenn hence the award went the way it did.
Well, at least nobody missfiled anything this time.
a fellow student of our great leader 😂😂
it's impossible to misfile something. it's alphabetical.
NOT ONCE, NOT ONE TIME!
The scene that made Nic a movie star. And RIP the great director Norman Jewison...
Used to live in a 2 story Victorian house with eh - somewhat similar kitchen ...reminded us of "their kitchen ". 2 Yr. old Grandson would stare at me when I ( Grandmama) would sing opera parts.
Yes a full grown man- full grown TANTRUM
“This wood is fake” 🤣🤣 what??
My favorite documentary of all time. 😂

Nicolas Cage is a frigging genius ❤️🔥
Yeah and he's the same age as my brother.
imagine all the hair on the bread
I still can’t decide if this acting is amazing or awful
It's both. He's doing a parody of Stanley Kowalski. But it fits the comedic tone of the movie.
It's Amazing!!!
That's often the case with Nicholas Cage.
Ikr
I find it a little bit um...mean?...but I like Nick cage's work in movies like Raising Arizona so there's levels to it I can chuckle.
I feel bad for his assistant, especially considering what happens later.
So odd about this movie that I hold so dear…I’m not a particular fan of Cage…this is the ONLY picture that he’s my fav actor. It’s that who ever played this part has to be on the verge of crazy and Cage pulls that off with aplomb.!!! Totally needed to be Cage for Ronny to work! Thank you Cher for insisting!
Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Face Off, 8mm, what the hell happened to Nick Cage?
Idk how he became big. Guy is a mediocore actor at best
He became big because he's related to Francis Ford Coppola.
I think you forgot his best work (which is weird since you seem to be a fan)- Leaving Las Vegas
He managed to blacklist himself
No No Not the Bees! Not the bees! Aaaaaaahhhhhh!
She doesn’t deserve him yelling at her like that. It’s not her fault that he lost his hand and bride. Immediately she gets a massive red flag and yet she ignores it. If I were her, I would've run for the hills after he behaved like that towards me. There's really nothing romantic about this.
Being misogynistic is crazy
Boooooo
@@Braze-xq6pkhow? How is this misogynistic? He said nothing misogynistic, he’s a human being and he’s hurt. No one is a perfect angel.
Out of context, his over the top yelling is freaking hilarious... but with context, it is one of the saddest scenes in the whole film
yes we’re all here for the same reason
I saw this in the theater when it opened. My friend and I both thought Nicholas Cage said, “You see this wood? It’s fake.”
I would follow body like that, too.
i 👏 lost 👏 my 👏 hand 👏
What piece of music is playing during this scene?
0:49 My favourite scene of the whole movie…

Almost like a poem
@@jcmat9917 It really is, it's like modern Shakespeare. hahah
I hope those are the real reactions from the actors when he went off like that. Ummmm is this a part of the movie? I feel like I should say something, but I don’t know what. I guess we should just be quiet and look at the ground.
classic nick cage....wow!
As sad as this is it’s always been hilarious due to Nicholas cage and it lives rent free in my mind the last 20+ years randomly and sporadically “HE TOOK MY HAND!” Out of nowhere
I need to see Nic Cage as Hamlet....
I’m here because of “Only Murders in the Building”
I'm not a big fan of romcoms, but "Moonstruck" is just a damned near perfect film. Playwright John Patrick Shanley wrote the screenplay and there's not a wasted word in the script. I'm a pretty tough guy, I suppose, but this movie turns me into a pile of goo.

Can someone post these lines who knows them? I'd really appreciate it.

thats a fake wood indeed
funhaus
Chrissy all weird at the end
What’s weird about her?
But johnny didnt do anything. U werent payin attention nick lolololol
Does he look like a friggin monument to justice to you?
Watching this movie as an adult, it’s so corny.
He’s funny in this because he’s a TERRIBLE actor. That’s why this scene is great. It’s great bc of how TERRIBLE he is. I can’t believe when they watched the dailies , that they kept this in.
Nicolas Cage was not right for this role
I think he’s a terrible actor. Especially here. He’s not good at all
Jimmy B if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say it at all! Thanks! Hugs and kisses!
I can't imagine this film (and scene) without his "terrible" actiing
There's a Queen song called Jealousy, I think you should probably give it a listen
Jimmy B totally agree.... he not an actor he just plays Nicolas Cage
Jimmy B I totally agree, Nic Cage is horrible. But I still love this movie, for me the cheesiness of his acting is part of the nuance 😂
