  • Here's some mods I have done to allow this duramax to run more efficient as well as cooler while towing our 15,000lb toy hauler all over the country!!! I know there's more mods we could do to make it even more efficient and cooler but, with us quitting our jobs and on a budget, this is what we could afford. Approaching 250,000 miles and pulls great!!! So glad we decided to get an older truck!!

    My 2005 I had the head issue because they have head bolts instead of studs. I ended up just having my engine rebuilt with some upgrades. Head studs, after market injectors, aftermarket turbo wheel, bored, delete and a tune for 500 hp at the wheels and almost 1000 torque. Then also had them install a new radiator, a/c compressor and alternator. Pricey but she pulls my 5th wheel, horse trailer, and gooseneck just fine now.

    You may consider getting yourself the 08+ style 2500hd/3500hd tow mirrors for your 06 truck. I see lots of guys running them and I think they work great. There's also a video on here of how to "level" that style of mirror on the pre 07.5 trucks to make them not look messed up at an angle too.

    If you find that your truck wants to heat up while pulling you might want to pull your radiator and pressure wash all the crap that gets stuck on the radiator. I did the mouth piece, coolant flush on my lly and it still wanted to heat up so I pulled my radiator out and it was 75% plugged
    Cleaned it and so far so good.

      Chevy 55 Thank you so much! I have checked my radiator and its clean. I also have read that the 2004.5 and the 2005 llys have trouble keeping cool while towing. The years before and after mine had the injector issues but stayed cool. I think it would really help to get bigger intercooler tubing, among other things when I have the money. Thank you so much for your comment and hope your truck is still doing good for you!!

  • @kylerokitjanski7598
    @kylerokitjanski7598 6 лет назад +1

    The overheating issue was a model year issue, not a motor issue. 04.5-06 LLY motors had a poorly designed intake system. Here's some info for y'all. www.maxxtorque.com/2008/07/duramax-lly-overheating-gm-solution-and.html?showall=1 PCV reroute just eliminates oil vapours from being dumped into the intake system, has nothing to do with heat though in theory it might put some heat back into the engine I guess. The banks braking system thingy...lord where do I start. If your in towhaul, the converter locks in second anyways so it is doing nothing there, it's just changing shift points which Allison's do anyways. Also, for the $500 you could get a local shop to tune your truck to use the turbo as a brake while in tow haul. As for the intake mod, not such a good idea for those towing through lots of rain or who see snow or lots of dirt roads, great if you live where its dry and live on pavement though I'm sure.
    Interesting video to say the least, looks like a nice rig to travel with the family.

    • @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379
      @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379  6 лет назад

      Kyle Rokitjanski Thanks for the message. The pcv differently takes hot gases away from the engine. If you tried the banks speed brake vs just the tow haul mode you would see it makes a great difference when towing 16,000lbs. But yes I would like to get the upgraded intercooler piping. Just with the simple cheap stuff I was able to do it helped alot. You can always do more if the money is there. Thanks alot for the comment!!

    I have the same exact truck with the Duramax LLY in it, absolutely love it. Just hit 300,000 miles and the FPR on the CP3 started acting up. I was just going to put Industrial Injectors “bag of parts” on it but then figured 300,000 miles I’ll just change the entire CP3. Industrial Injectors “42% over” CP3 arrived from them in the mail today, this coming weekends project.
    I was looking at getting that deeper Allison pan you have, I’ve been wondering do you have any trouble finding the special internal filters for it? I seen the full kit that includes the pan and filter, but haven’t seen just the deep filters?
    Those stock chevy mirrors, how can you stand driving with those things lol? I can’t believe DOT ever allowed chevy to make those. Those were the very first things to go on my truck, Amazon, less than $100. They’re heated with turn signals on them, plug right in, just no motor to extend, which I can live with, its not like I’m always extending them in and out.

    • @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379
      @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379  4 года назад +1

    Great adds, so now I'm going to do some of these on my newly purchased 06 Silverado 3500 w/87000 miles for our upcoming full time adventures into retirement. I'm also considering a EGR delete. Have you looked into AMSOIL and the Bypass filter system? See ya out there...

    • @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379
      @kermitandtrinitykeefer7379  6 лет назад

      brian phelps Brian, haha yes I was just looking into EGR and a bypass filter kit. Amazing that your truck has that low amount of miles on it!!! Also Transynd Allison fluid in the transmission is amazing too! Very expensive but its what Allison calls for, but in your case it might be in there from factory still. I am going to do an undated video since we just did 26,000 miles with the 5th wheel. I am going to install the bypass filter, exhaust and down pipe, EGR, and bigger inner cooler pipes. All to keep it cool and clean. Everyone says I should do a programmer or chip but I think they have enough power, plus when you start changing programs it seems like that's when people run into issues. Put money into making it stop and run clean and cool. Keeping it simple is sometimes best, in my option. Happy to hear your hitting the road!!! So I've added a FASS lift pump with micro filter and water separator, done a Trans flush and Transfer case with Transynd. Looking to change oil, what kind of oil and filter have you used and have you heard of Amsoil and their BMK27 Bypass filter? I used Amsoil in the differentials. I think if you delete you're going to need tuning, check out Duramax.com or on youtube, great info source and tunes too. I'm going with their 5 tunes and TCM package.

      I'm on a tight budget as well and have done mods to my lbz progressively, pcv reroute and egr blocker plate and coolant reroute very first thing. However I left the egr cooler in place to support the up pipe. Cat fuel and oil filter adapters and filters. Fass lift pump was next,trans go Jr after that. Couldn't afford exhaust after lift pump so we got 3 1/2" pipe and cut the cat and muffler out and welded pipie in....straight through. Much better flow and great turbo spool. Can't wait for real exhaust and a mild programmer!!

      Thank you for the positive message. I have had the rotors on the truck for 40,000 miles. Hauled 17,000 for 29,000 of that. Pads are still good, rotors are still great no distintive wear that's abnormal. I had stock rotors on the truck that warped very quickly from hauling weight. I have had this truck for 80,000 miles and has never had more than regular fluid changes and routine maintance. Keep up your positivity as it makes everyone around you a better person. Thanks again.
