- It isn't just humans that need saving from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. People have been risking their lives to save animals stranded in need. In one instance, a dog was shivering on top of the roof of an SUV as it was surrounded by water. There was nowhere for him to go. A group of rescuers on a boat came to save the dog, which snarled at them initially because he did not realize they were there to help him. Finally, they were able to get him into the boat and bring him to safety. #InsideEdition
What happens when a family loses their dog in the Hurricane and the dog is already put up for adoption in New Jersey

I think those dogs were already up for adoption, they wanted to free up the space in the shelters so that dogs they took in from the hurricane could use the shelter space and hopefully be reunited with their owners.
The dogs in Jersey were in the shelters before the storm. They were already up for adoption and were moved north to free up space in Houston area rescues centers.
If I had to choose between my dog drowning or being someone else's dog, I'd choose the latter.

Some of them may have gotten separated from their owners, or some might have been strays or from a shelter.
Yeah we can’t love owners that probably had families that ran away just to save their lives, I know dogs and animals should be saved too but most animals can’t be saved in situations like this so the family runs away

We just got 5 new chickens at work that were rescued from Victoria, TX floods. Anything the volunteers can catch will be taken to shelters for care.

Corri Truth I agree. I feel the exact same way but I think some of these families didn't have a choice. Maybe they got separated from their pet and the pet got rescued and shipped out you know what I mean. It's a really sad thought.

I know,it is heartless.
I think they just got separated on accident, they didn't just leave them. These people were taken by surprise, so when rescue workers came they had choices to make their kids and thense or their pets.

@Bats What if they couldn't get to him in time ? What if the dog was to scared to go with them ? Or maybe the boat or other water transportation couldn't fit the dog in. There can be alot of factors into abandoning the dog and I'm pretty sure they were missing him greatly. (Hopefully not anymore since this happened two years ago)

During Hurricane Harvey we found a stray dog and saved him, it's been seven months since we've had him and we don't regret it.
Thank you to the animal shelters in New Jersey for helping Texas during this hard time.

I will never understand how a human being can flee a flood and leave their own dog behind. There is no excuse for that. Breaks my heart. Please don't get a dog if you can't provide at bear minimum a shelter for it if a tragedy strikes like a flood. I would never leave my dog to try to survive that alone.
Exactly! They had time to flee to! I got so mad at a kid who said him and his family left their dog back at home during the storm. I told him exactly what you said and he started bawling his eyes out. I hate people like him who act all sorry when they know they could’ve done something. I wanted to punch him so badly.
He could have done something about his dog. There was plenty of time to. Even if there isn’t, and you can’t find them if they’re hiding, you stay put and search until you do, or die trying. The kid wouldn’t stop crying after I told him that and left. I was so mad. I will also never understand how anyone could flee a flood and leave their dog behind. That’s not just an animal. That’s family. It was depending on him and his family, and they abandoned it. Now he’s acting all sad and sorry, but I know he’s not because he got a new dog, completely replacing the old one.

They're getting the same treatment as the dogs. Rescue, treat medically (if needed), reunite. Horses, rabbits, chickens, and anything else they find will get the same.
i am so glad these people didn't abandon their animals. i heard of some cases where people just left their dogs chained up in back yards to die

XxTechMad24xX they didn't fly out the dogs that were rescued from the floods, those were dogs that were already in the shelter before Harvey. They did it to make room for pets displaced by Harvey.

XxTechMad24xX that dog was abandoned! If the owner wanted him they would of taken him with them when the flee that's what happened with most of the animals left them to fend for them self so give them to family that want them

Right? I told a kid that him and his parents were awful human beings for leaving their dog behind and he burst into tears. He probably won’t let his parents abandon a pet again if he ever even gets another. I hate people like him who act all sad when they could’ve fully done something about it.

I live about 100 miles away from Houston and honestly if I wasn't on school I would go to Houston and Corpus and try to help with the rescues but sadly I can't so I will just be donating flood because that is something that the areas with the floods need!
