Depressed Pitbull Refuses to Move for Days Until 7-Year-Old Boy Arrives

- This terrified depressed Pitbull named Nala was rescued from the streets of New Zealand and brought to a shelter. Abbie Van Der Plax, the shelter's owner spent two days sitting on the floor trying to gain her trust. She spent hours trying to coax the distressed dog out from a corner but she would just tremble and growl. When her 7-year-old son, Zach, joined her side the dog's personality totally changed. Nala's separation distress is slowly getting better and she loves being by the boy's side. #InsideEdition

Fun fact: when the dog saw the kid and stretched, the stretch means they feel comfortable in the situation.

Your absolutely right plus She sees that the woman can be trusted because she can smell the love and nurturing pheromones that She secretes for the boy and the love and trust pheromones that the boy secretes for the Mom. That's just opinion though. I'm no scientist.

So true. I, and I stress the I, adopted a Yorkie called Bea and she chose our eldest :) Could never have complained about her, although, I was bottom of her pack. Sadly she passed away due to a tumour last year. She was an amazing dog and without a doubt had and took her choice in our 16 year old. They were two little peas in a pod.
Dog: I'm sick, disappointed and despairing of adults. Me: I hear you buddy.
It was interesting how the dog actually came to the adult, but only after the child sat down along side. She suddenly trusted because she was able to recognize an endorsement of the adult by the child - the child was a familiar ‘pack animal’ to her.

Me too...I got lump in my throat watching this and thinking exactly the same as you.

We'll never know
Sometimes a dog needs a little one to bond with like Lassie and Timmy.
Children have that magic. 💕
Reminds me of my son’s cat. A little Siamese litter runt. He’s the most chicken, fraidy cat I’ve ever known if you’re an adult. Won’t let anyone get near him. Yet kids come over and run at him, and pick him up, and pull his tail... and he just lets them. It’s so weird.
90% of an animal's interaction with humans is based on what they experienced during their formative years. And it usually takes 10X the amount of positive reinforcement to make them forget traumatic memlries or bad habits taught. So if say a dog's tail was pulled once as a pup, you'd need 10X the amount of stroking it's back lovingly or patting it on the side, before it feels comfortable around you.
Some lessons I picked up over the years.
You shouldn't let them but it is weird.
That dog got up IMMEDIATELY.

I love how her spirit came back when she saw the little guy. But, I'm wondering about the kid(s) who were obviously loving to her and if they're not the same way that she is/was?!
Animals know they can usually trust the young humans. The older ones have to prove it.
Honestly, nice sentiment, but I don't think it's that deep. Dogs might be wary of children if they've never seen them, before. It's more about association based on experience than some innate sense of who they can trust.
yeah... there's no kid that is a true devil...

If she liked a strange kid she'd never met before that fast, that's not 'bonding', it's just loving kids in general.
