- They were partners in crime. Midge, the world's smallest police dog, and Sheriff Dan McClelland, worked together for years to keep Geauga County in Ohio safe. Midge, a rat terrier Chihuahua, was by McClelland's side for 16 years. He was a 44-year veteran of the force, and a decade of that time was spent working with Midge. But the story of Midge and McClelland took a sad turn recently when McClelland passed away after a bout with cancer. Midge, at home, passed away on the very same day. #InsideEdition
She was an elderly dog. The stress of losing him killed her. It’s kind of beautiful that neither had to be without the other for long.

Reminds me of my grandpa. When my grandma fell into a coma, he aged ten years in two weeks, very little exaggeration. She died on a Friday and he followed her that Sunday. Makes me want to believe in something.

Same here. I’ve been a CNA in senior healthcare for over 27 years and I’ve seen it many times. There was one couple who had been married over 70 years. The wife was in very poor health, could not walk nor stand. The husband used to push her around in her wheelchair and help with her care. He was in very good health in his 90s. He died 3 days after she did.

My beloved Pomeranian died at the age of 17. I tell ya, that was the hardest most sad event of my life. I dont have human children, so she WAS my child. For about 2 weeks after she passed all I did was sleep and cry. I didn't want to eat much and I didn't go to work.
It's been 11 years since she passed and I still am getting choked up. I have her cremated ashes in an Urn that WILL be buried with me when I pass.
In this video, MIDGE just wanted to be with her daddy and so she went 🌬🐶🌠

When my daughter died in a freak accident, her poodle, Chocolate, died out of nowhere a few days later (my daughter was almost 4 years old. Her puppy was about 1 human year)... Animals have a VERY deep connection.

My grandpa never was a dog person until we gifted him a very smart border collie named clementine... they spent every day working outside on the ranch for 9 years and he finally grew to respect dogs and cared for her whenever she had ticks or thorns, he was there for her. Nov 2014 a day before his birthday, Grandpa passed away with 4 weeks notice from stage 4 pancreatic cancer... Clementine looked for him the following day, when she couldn’t feel his presence anymore, she laid down and passed away. We were all in shock. 😔

my grandparents were married for 60 years and passed away exactly one week apart. there is no doubt in my heart that my grandma, the second to go, left because she could not, would not, stay here without my grandpa.
This reminds me of a couple I worked with back in 2015ish. They passed away 1 week apart from one another and the woman just cried for all that time. She missed him so much. I came into her room one night and held her hand and told her "it's okay to let go". She passed away not even a few hours later. Some times I think some people just want permission to go see their loved ones
The exact same thing happened to my aunts patients, she’s a frail care nurse so she took care of them in their home. I never thought this would be a reason
This year is my grandparents 61st anniversary- been married since they were 19. Cutest couple I’ve ever met. I don’t want to imagine either of them being gone.
No way! I'm Hindu (marathi to be specific) so we have a 13 day ritual period after someone dies. My grandmother died of cancer and after 13 days, literally a few hours after the ritual had been completed, my grandpa also passed away due to heart failure. It is like he waited just for the last rites. Both were the best of human beings.

My best friend passed away from a heart condition, he had a Cat and a Dog, his Dog passed away a week later and then his cat passed away 2 days after his dog, I always felt like that wasn't just a coincidence, just shows that loyalty between a good owner and his furry companions

I always find it morbidly fascinating when stuff like that happens. Why? Why does that happen? What’s the science, the physics behind this phenomenon? It happens to old couples too. When one goes the other shortly follows. It’s easy to say they died of sadness but what’s the science behind it? Is it something behind science? Is it metaphysical? I have so many questions!!
Just like humans, animals have a soul. So I'm pretty sure that soul or 'energy' will go somewhere when dogs die.
I truly believe God gave us dogs as a companion and we'll see them in the afterlife.

When my uncle passed away his cat was devastated. When my aunt had to let go of his things the cat would fight her for them. Eventually the cat passed on too a couple months after.

😪😪😪 I believe this. When my beloved uncle died from cancer, his dog let out a heartbreaking howl as his body was being taken from his home. A few months later, the dog developed widespread cancer and died soon after. She was only about four years old.

This dog was a straight legend for being the smallest dog and surviving for 16 years
Actually, small dogs live longer than large dogs. Large dogs have a life span of 10-12 but can uncommonly live to 14. Small dogs can live 14-16 years and uncommonly 18 if taken very well care of. The larger the dog, the shorter the lifespan.
A bittersweet way to look at this dog's passing was at least they died at a good age before developing any painful diseases that would have lead to a painful death.

I had a yorkshire terrier who survived 18 years. Got him when I was just a kid in kindergarten. He died 3 years ago.

This is hitting home right now. My Chihuahua is almost 16 and he's starting to go. I don't even want to imagine how hard it will be to see him pass.
I had a 4 1/2 pound dog live till 21, good years. Maybe there is something that can be done to either help him live longer, quality of life. Or to help him pass peacefully. I'm sure having someone like you as his human, he is happy and better for it.

Yeah, a friend of my cousin's died a few years back after he passed out drunk and he started to vomit while he was unconscious but the vomit never fully came up and he suffocated in his sleep. About a day after he passed away, his grandfather also passed. And it's very likely his grandfather passed away from heartbreak.

I felt the same. Mine died July 27, 2020. I just told my daughter we're going next week and getting a kitten. I had my little lady for 16 yrs. But even though she was a doggy she had the character of a cat. That's why I'll be a kitty this time. There will always only be one doggy for me...and she's come and gone. RIP.

I remember going to K9 training with my dad and being able to hold midge. I use to help with the narcotic training and when the news came we were very sad. Dan was one of the nicest sheriffs and midge was the sweetest dog I ever met.

@@topsdaily_productions yes I did. Met them multiple times over 5-7 years. He was such a nice guy and midge was super friendly and well behaved. They both worked at the department near my house. It was super sad for the whole community to see them both pass away.

A few months ago my Uncle died in a fire and his loyal little Chihuahua, fittingly named Precious, was found next to him. It comforts me to know that they made the journey out of this world together, like Dan and Midge.

That’s what keeps me going, cause my dog still has a lot to live for and I don’t want her to dwell on me going. Even though I went through some really hard times, I’m glad she’s here. So sad the little pooch couldn’t keep going, but she’s resting with her best friend ❤
That makes it more sad for the man who died. He probably died after thinking his dog would be ok. :(

OMG. Something similar happened when my grandpa passed away. The cat kept trying to cuddle next to his feet. Nobody allowed the cat near the body. He was heartbroken. He knew that grandpa was gone. After grandpa’s body was taken for burial, the cat went missing. The family believed he died of a broken heart too.
Grandpa really was the sweetest man towards all animals. Even when it would take him about 3 minutes to manage to bend down to the cat or dog’s level, they patiently waited for their pats.
When the dog passed away about 2 years later, my cousin had a vivid dream of grandpa coming into the house and asking him to go back to sleep because he was only there to collect the dog.
I don’t know if anyone will read this story but there is something out there. I don’t have a word for it - nature, God, subconscious…?! Something much bigger than us truly exists, although, I am not certain what it is.
God is real and it's a great poverty to stay unaware of His existence
