A morning hike turned into a rescue mission on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona. A dog-loving Good Samaritan called the Arizona Humane Society after he spotted two eyes peering back at him from a small hole along a hiking trail. With temperatures in Phoenix rising, AHS' Rescue Team knew they had to act quickly to save the dog.

@@spicencens7725 nowhere near AZ unfortunately. I try to do my bit. I've donated dog and cat beds to shelters, hate seeing them on bare floors, blankets even some medical supplies all new of course. Wish I could do more. Wish I could take them all home. Their souls are pure. Can't say the same for most humans

Me too, mostly blankets & towels. I adopted a gal last year who had been returned twice. She'd been there the longest. A medium sized dog, but with the antics of a Jack Russell. She gets along very well with my other two.

Please let her not end up euthanized just because no one in that city would adopt a pitbull. She deserves a kind and understanding home. Look at the sweet, innocent face on her!
Luckily, she is no danger of that happening. AHS has an Ethical No-Kill Policy which means we never euthanize a pet for space or length of time. The Arizona Humane Society is a safety net for the most vulnerable animals-the sick, injured and abused-who are often turned away by other shelters. Bright Eyes is now available for adoption!

Someone took this dog hiking with them and abandoned her because she wasn't conditioned to hike for long. Not only did this person abandon her but they didn't come back to look for her and didn't tell anyone about this missing dog. It's crazy how people are both absolutely horrible and wonderful.

He cares so much for his creation that over 900,000 healthy but overlooked for adoption cats and dogs are euthanized every year in shelters.

I am not a fan of the human race as a real human would not do this. There would certainly be fewer effing humans on this earth if I had my way with animal abusers. Laws need to be stronger, people need to turn in the abusers, not turn a blind eye to the abuse. What a beautiful girl. Thank you for saving her. I always carry a gallon of water, disposable bowls, cat chow ( dogs like it too ) and bird seed a blanket and tarps. In case I see any animal in need. I also have the number for the animal shelter with me at all times.

My own eyes are leaking. I had a Bright Eyes once and it is a well omened name. I did rescue and she's the only rescue I kept for myself because, while I was fostering her, my vet diagnosed her with lupus erythematosus. At the time, the average lifespan after diagnosis was 18 months; I wasn't sure I could find adoptive owners who would have the vet nursing skill set that I knew I had to make her life as easy and comfortable as possible. With my vet's help and a lot of luck, my Bright Eyes eventually went into a 12 year remission and lived to be 15 years old, a good long life for a Golden Retriever sized dog.
Seems almost miraculous that the hiker even saw her, and then facilitated the rescue. Very inspiring to watch the Humane Society folks carry her down the treacherous trail and to safety and hopefully complete recovery. Thank you to all -- we need to see these compassionate-to-animals stories especially now when there seems to be more inhumane and violent acts publicized on line and in the media. Thank you again! Hope Bright Eyes recovers and gets a great forever home.

Who brought her up there? She looked overall healthy from a home. Bless you both for carrying her down. I once carried a tiny puppy down a trail at White Tank Mountains, and it was no joke! I can't imagine carrying this large dog downwards, with slippery rocks and in the heat!
