Musicians though are in a particular spot of being able to sell art to the masses with a special freedom of expression. There may be the look of artistic character, of noble intention, but often it's easier for a group to create some false profundity, fake depth if you will. Selling out in their eyes seems to be compromising one's morals for something fleeting like money.

(7:31) The transitions in The Spirit of Radio are simulating the changing of radio stations on an analog radio dial. The transition marked at this junction is rather cleverly done. If you turned the tuning dial quickly, then many radio stations would broadcast like a blur to your ears.

Stiff as wire, her lungs on fire
    With just the briefest pause
    The flooding through her memory

    Defies the empty page
His beard is white, his face is lined

Thirty years ago, how the words would flow
    With passion and precision

5:39 glad you caught the meaning... "Shatters the illusion of integrity."
"The Spirit of Radio" became the slogan of CFNY in the 80s, a station that was on the edge (that was their slogan) of the transformation that ws the New Wave / Modern Rock era. The video has references to both the station and the programmer director David Marsden.

1st, RUSH is Canadian, & we could not be more proud of how they represented us, 2nd, they were brilliant musicians & all could play more than 3 instruments, & only needed 3 of them to sound like a band of 5, and lastly, once you hear them, you are never the same, & now, you are one of us !!! LOL 😊 Oh ya, one of the reasons there were so many transitions in this particular song, is because RUSH, wanted to give the listeners the feeling of changing the channel on the radio!!!

I love your reaction to Rush. I'm a Rush nerd from back in the day and a drummer. The drummer in this song plays a Glockenspiel. A percussion instrument with tuned keys like a piano. Later he started using electronic percussion because you can trigger so many sounds. Love your openess to music.
