This is where it all began for Rush. I remember when they started playing it on the Buzzard in Cleveland. That was when we actually listened to the radio. When there was DJ's and radio stations. I miss those days.
In the mid-`970s, EVERY garage band played this song! It was one of the songs that turned people with even the slightest bit of musical interest and talent on to Rush. Then Fly by Night and Caress of Steel (an album that doesn't get anywhere the respect it deserves,) and finally 2112 that cemented Rush in the hearts of anyone who played, or wanted to play an instrument.
I love your pure reactions to my all time favorite band !!! RUSH !!! You have to know you're just at the tip of the RUSH iceberg !!! There is soooo much for you hear from these guys. I wish you were around 40 years ago !!! I couldn't find a girl who would even listen to them !!! Lmao. My picks for you are Between the Wheels Red Sector A Xanadu !!! My favorite The Pass Available Light !! Any and all !! Thnx for sharing your energy !! And you're beautiful !! Hope that isn't out of line !!!
This is very early Rush. That is John Rutsey on Drums. Just about a year or so later Neil Peart joined and they remained in the lineup of....Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart until they called it quits after 40 plus years. Alex Lifeson and Geddy actually started in school in around 1967 ish, Rutsey was there about '68ish, Peart who is the final drummer "with all those drums" joined in 1974. That is when Rush's sound slowly started to change and Peart would take over for the lyrics. His lyrics, are really some of the most intelligent lyrics in all of Rock. Personally, I would visit their 1981 concert in Montreal. Some good moments you can react to are The Trees & Xanadu ruclips.net/video/wY1dQpb5SoY/видео.html Peart talks in that particular clip for a moment
@@neillenet291 There was nothing wrong with John, he had to leave the band for health reasons. They were fated to be with Peart though and that is where it went. Its sort of like Zeppelin and Terry Reid. Although, Terry Reid never joined the band (Jimmy Page wanted him) Reid decided to suggest Robert Plant. In the U.K, Terry Reid was above any other vocalist. He turned that gig down and he was also offered a Deep Purple job, he turned it down. The rest is history. The Beatles with Pete Best. Its very interesting to go over these past events and wonder "what if"...
Al Meyer I know it’s John Rutsey. My point was it’s probably not obvious to Cash that it’s a different drummer. Look who I’m responding to, it’s not the OP.
Time to check out one of THE most versatile female singers on the planet. Rock, pop, belt mixed voice, chest voice, head voice, growl, classical.......and she can sing in at least a half dozen languages. She is a 6'1" goddess named, Floor Jansen and she fronts the band, "Nightwish". "Ghost Love Score", live from Wacken in 2013 will blow your mind as it's one of the best live vocal performances evahhhhh......
A lead guitarist, a bass player and an insanely genius drummer wrapping their instruments around each other in a melodic herringbone chain of multiple eargasms.
This is the song that broke them into the big time. A station in Cleveland played the "B" side of a single. OMG. Now I know how crazy I looked rocking out to Rush...in the 80's. Fills the need for speed. LOVE IT!
Congratulations on 20K. Can you believe it- this is where Rush started from, and what a journey they took us on. Scribe you are a rocker, no questions about that. Rock on!
This is Rush's first hit, off of their first album. The drummer is their original drummer John Rutsey. Neil Peart was hired after this albums release, because the rest of the band and management had health concerns for John and his diabetes, and ability to tour, at the time .
🤘😎👍 @ScribeCash 4:50 Hell Yeah!!! I grew up listening to Rush and that saying has rung in my head throughout! 'Seems to me I can live my life allot better than I think I am' #RoadTo100K #ScribeCash 🎉Congrats on 20K 🎉
FYI, the first album has a different drummer. Rutsey wasn't as flashy and skilled as Peart, but he's also not as rigid, which again, is why this record has a certain funk about it.
Yup Ms ScribeCash, as @Steve Bass aludes, this was the song which propelled then into mainstream when it was played on Radio station WMMS. Kinda randomly chosen at the outset because it was long enough to allow the DJ to go for a bathroom break (no kidding). With Cleveland being an industrial city the folks identified with the lyrics and it became a favourite. Congrats on 20K, and keep up the good work lass...
It's always a joy to hear this song! This is the one that got them onto the music scene. A radio station in Detroit put it on because it was long and the DJ could step away for a few minutes, and everyone started calling in wanting to know who the group was. They built up a following in Detroit, the studios noticed, and they went on for another 40 years! It was bittersweet seeing them in that last concert when they ended with this song. Sweet because it's one of their classics. Bitter because it was the last song of their last tour.
I love watching you. You are me 40 years ago sweetie. Us Rush fans felt like we were all alone out there! My name is Wendy and you are my sister!! They have been my heroes for ever. Thank you for giving my boys a chance.
I love watching your vids of Rush. You make me like and see the songs in a really fresh way. Seeing someone else loving its cleverness and fun. they are good tunes man
Congrats on 20K! This was their first hit, though it started out as a regional thing. A DJ in Cleveland began playing it and it caught on. Unlike later songs, the lyrics were not by Neil Peart.
Apparently he found the length of this song convenient for taking bathroom breaks. After a while the station started getting requests for "that new Led Zepplin song".
You should really check this one out live in Cleveland. Great reaction as always. Love them. Also would really love to see you rockin it out to my fav band ACDC.
summer 1977 driving around in my 1966 Pontiac tempest with windows down and blasting working man from my 8 tack tape system...those were the days !! p.s. great reaction
Congrats Scribe on meeting your 20k goal. Great video on Working Man, one of my fave Rush songs, grew up with this song near and dear to my heart while growing up in a blue collar town in northern Wisconsin in the 70's.
You make loving fun, Scribe! I love Rush and it is so enjoyable to experience them through you... Keep rocking and congratulations on the 20K... Please check out A Farewell to Kings and Xanadu
This is the song that launched them into the American market. Beyond the Lighted Stage is an excellent documentary that follows their career from their childhood days to their next to last album. Well worth the watch.
More Rush? How about 'Red Sector A', one of their many songs with lyrics dealing with a rather heavy topic in an emotional manner. And a rather good song otherwise as well, of course.
Hello! I have liked and subscribed! Rush has been my favorite band since about 1984. I saw Rush in concert many times. When I was in high school, I asked my friend if he wanted to go to the Rush concert. He asked if they were going to play By-Tor and the Snow Dog and Cygnus X-1. I said that they would probably not play those songs, so he didn't want to go. That was 1988. Years later in 2004, I saw Rush and they played those two songs back to back! So if you are taking requests, a reaction to By-Tor and the Snow Dog (1975) or Cygnus X-1 (1977) would be awesome. Love your videos!
I just love your video reactions. There is a band from 66-68 called Cream that was the first “Supergroup” power trio that influenced Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rush etc.... It featured Eric Clapton guitar, Jack Bruce bass, and Ginger Baker on drums. I would love to see you react to Sunshine of Your Love (studio), White Room (studio) and Crossroads “live from Wheels of Fire” I think you and the subs would really dig it. Peace out!
John Rutsey on drums which was the original drummer and an original founder of the band. Poor guy got cut from the band just before their first tour. He had a drinking problem and diabetes which he wasn't taking care of and they decided he needed to stay home and get himself together because they didn't want to be responsible for him dying out on the road and entre Neil Peart and the rest is history. Just 3 20 year old kids on this btw. U should find the live version of this at a Canadian highschool either in late 1973 or very early 1974 when they still had john behind the drum kit and before their first tour. It really shows just how freaking talented they are even at that point. Just 3 20 year old kids playing in a school and they performed like a professional band already.
This is where it all began for Rush. I remember when they started playing it on the Buzzard in Cleveland. That was when we actually listened to the radio. When there was DJ's and radio stations. I miss those days.
RIP Neil your MAGICAL DRUM SET is now HEAVENLY!!!!!! 😪

That is John Rutsey on drums. He was the first drummer of rush.
R.I.P.
@@MrJavisquare Indeed, he held down the drums for six strong years at the beginning of Rush.
While Peart was certainly the master, Rutsey was no slouch. For straight-ahead rock he was a good one.
He also liked to lift weights while watching Anal Jams 2001!
See I was just going to say that I like it better with Neal. I think that you need to hear both versions and make your decision
This is the song that put Rush on the map in the USA. A station DJ and director in Cleveland began playing this regularly and the rest is history.
How come nobody ever does "Passage To Bangkok" from 2112? That has to be the grooviest Rush song ever........
DANANANA NAH NAH NAH NAH NAHHHHHH :-)
Also Twighlight Zone
Rudy Toot I love the riffing during the solo. Such a good vibe. I don’t partake in drugs but, I love APTBK.
Yes. It's also one of the best songs about sparking up ever. The live version off of Exit...Stage Left, is vastly superior to the studio version.

o o I doubt ANY of that, particularly Rutsey on drums, was obvious to her.
Susan Maggiora actually it is John Rutsey.
I'm probably one of the few that really like John Rutsey.

Just think, outside of the best drummer in the world, there is only two other people making all this sound. Two! Love these guys.
"Anthem" by Rush . It's about the philosophy of Any Rand. Right up your alley.
also on this album "Finding my way" "In the mood" and "what you're doing" are all great tunes.
now think about this. this was 1975 and I grew up with this great music
Thats exactly how I listen to classic rock... when nobody's around
Congratulations on 20K. Can you believe it- this is where Rush started from, and what a journey they took us on.

And just think, on every track that follows this album, the drum set gets WAY more magical.
My favorite RUSH song.
LOVED THE REACTION!
