There is no substitute for experience. I've been woodworking for over 20 years now and I've learned a lot. So now I'm passing them on through my videos to help anyone who's interested. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Hi rob.. just a quick one... there is a much cheaper option! Just wanted to share with you. It is called synthaprufe, it’s a liquid rubber tanking solution, it is painted onto the floor and base of the wall in one directional brush strokes and left for a couple of hours, then a second coat is applied in the opposite direction. Once dry it is completely watertight! Similar to the membrane that you put down only this is a fraction of the cost at around £12 a tin. 👌🏼
Cracking idea Rob, I love your channel simply because you live in the real world and what I mean by that is your willing to get your hands dirty and save money by using recycled things unlike some of the the snobs on here!. Keep posting and forget the negative people. By the way has anyone ever said you look like Kelvin fletcher? 😉
It has been mentioned a few times that I look like Kelvin 😂 I've always grafted and money dictates what I can use. I'm not like these big channels who can spend a fortune on their huge workshops and spend thousands on all the best equipment. But sometimes they have all the gear and no idea. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I've also had issues with copyright recently with music advertised as royalty free but then a year or so later they wack a copyright claim against me. So I think I will stay away from music for now. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Ahh this is really interesting. I've just got myself an old 1960s built pre fab concrete garage. Same issue with damp patches coming through the concrete floor. I may give this a go.
Up to now I've had no issues. Hopefully over the wet winter it will stay dry. Let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Thank you soo much - watched this and many many other videos, your way was the most straightforward. Because my concrete floor was uneven in places I put 25mm polystyrene sheets between the membrane and wood. Carpet tiles over the top and it’s amazing. 👌👍 Thanks for sharing.
It's the most simple and cost effective solution I could come up with. And so far it's been great. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Super that you are re-using good OSB and using biscuits and adhesive to create your floating floor. No swimming pool here, but (as I’m in western Canada) I’ve got an ice rink in the winter. As I have clearance outside, I plan to excavate past where the framing and concrete meet and install a membrane (and maybe a spray barrier?) and backfill. Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers. Am thinking about turning my shed into workshop. I was thinking about maybe putting insulation like PIR boards or something down before putting down a vapour barrier and plywood. But not sure how to manage the elevated floor level, and the door area. Bit tricky for me to open the door if I am knocking off a board. The door is wood, I could cut a bit off the bottom but then the insulation would be exposed. Would love a suggestion if you could comment back
Who cares what the critics say it takes more gumption to address a problem and to share your solution with others so it might be of use to someone who is struggling with the same problem. Nice fix idea. Lol on the swimming pool!
Exactly what my videos are all about. Just helping other DIYers with ideas and how to's. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Hi, great idea, looks great. Have you still got this flooring? How is it? I want to put down an OSB flooring downstairs in my house (obvs there's plaining, sanding and varnishing to get nice finish), but it's on a concrete floor and I was wondering about just floating it over a DPM, or if the budget stretches, DPM then 15mm insulation, then OSB tongue and groove. Do you think it could work?
It's working great for me so far but I must get round to doing something about the walls too. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
I’m in the process of converting a knackered garage into a DRY workshop. I feel your pain brother!! Wife wants me to knock it down and start again, but where’s the challenge in that????
I am currently doing my garage to gym now. The garage is sunk into the ground and the front and back are on different levels so water naturally comes in through the bricks during rainfall. I have used tanking slurry on the brick work which has helped but not completely fixed the issue, SO... I am going to use DPM on the inside and put down interlocking foam mats. My question is.. how did you attach the DPM to the walls? I was thinking of using a bit of gripfill and duck tape. Im not a builder by any stretch so not sure if that's adequate. Advice appreciated.
There always seems to be something else that needs my money spending on before my workshop. I have invested in some new tools and equipment though. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Hello. I noticed the house we purchased the extention attached to the house - the flooring does not have insulation. There is a membrane and 4" concrete on the floor. However is there an option i could insalate the floor before we decide to put either laminate or carpet down? Thanks in advance
Hey mate! first time watching your video, liked and subbed! going to be doing a similar thing to my garage! I will be watching more for some handy tips
Great video, keep them coming! I'm planning on converting my garage to a home gym and I'm looking to do similar so this vid helps alot. It will be interesting to see how you do the walls, do you plan to use roofing battons and insulation boards? Or OSB boards again?
Thanks for the comment. I am planning to just use osb. Can't justify paying for insulation. Saying that I haven't got the money for the osb for the walls either so it will have to stay as it is for now I'm afraid. Thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
Green Videos For a Gym (and if cost allows) I would suggest Liquid DPM followed by a self levelling screed. Then you can simply lay 40mm thick PIR insulation followed by your chosen flooring - OSB/underlay/finished floor (laminate perhaps?) If laminate the screed will provide the required level tolerances. Final result will be a dry and warm gym. This is what I am currently doing for an outdoor art workshop I am build in place of an existing 12x8 shed(being demolished) I don't know if there is a DPM under the existing slab hence the liquid DPM.
@@spendtimesavemoneydiy ahh so it was to broken up to use tanking slurry. If you decide to make it again down the line you could just use a render mix and then tank over that.
I had the same idea. However I'm not a builder but what happens to the water that still creeps under the damp proofing? Will it just stagnate on the concrete under the DPM. I've had years of water coming into my garage. Tried everything.... please reply. Great content 👍
Not entirely sure. The moisture will be trapped under the membrane but I'm hoping it will find a level of saturation and remain that way and not cause any more problems 🤞🏼thanks for watching and be sure to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
It will just sit on the Service the best thing to do would be to put down scaffold boards or something like that where you can leave Gaps so that the floor can breathe it the only option. Also definitely use batons so the floor is raised off the ground.
It's the simplest solution I could think of with a tight budget. And it's still going strong with no issues. Thanks for watching and don't forget to check out my other videos and subscribe to help my channel grow 👍🏼
I think it would hold the weight of a car as long as there aren't any big voids underneath. I could have added insulation but I didn't want to loose head height but it would be beneficial. Thanks for watching and don't forget to like share and subscribe to help the channel grow 👍🏼
@@spendtimesavemoneydiy Can you plz explain me how did you join both of these boards?? I mean is that fevicol you used in them while pasting each other or anything else ?
Thank you for posting this video. I am looking to either put a plain sheet under some OSB, or a dimpled membrane, so air can get under. So interested how your solution has worked over the Winter. Is there damp under the flooring? Or I guess you cannot tell. Thanks
Fair play to you big job to tackle by yourself turned out very well considering you were using reclaimed sheets, just one question are osb sheets water proof ? thanks for the video and dont mind the arm chair critics who most probably only get off thir seats to put on the kettle good video great job

You finally gave me the easiest common sense solution for the garage. I've been wanting to build a bjj gym inside, and now I can.
A useful solution, well done. If you'd have staggered the joints you could have achieved even greater strength in addition to the biscuits
Very helpful 👍
Glad you found my video useful.
And thank you for the super thanks, much appreciated 👍🏼
